1 Power Window problem of the 2003 Jeep Laredo

Failure Date: 07/12/2009

We have had failure of two window regulators. The first, the driver side window, cost $500 in 2008. The second, the passenger side window, will probably cost a bit more. By the level of chatter on the internet it would appear to be a major and consistent problem among Jeep owners of this model. I pity the owners with four windows going out. I am already half way there!.

4 Power Window problem of the 2000 Jeep Laredo

Failure Date: 08/08/2008

I own a 2000 Jeep grand cherokee Laredo. My Jeep has shut off on me three times this week while I was driving. The first time my cruise was set at 65mph, it kicked off the cruise and there was no power to the vehicle. I pulled over, restarted it got back up to 65mph and it shut off again not 2 minutes later. It didn't restart again for me that morning. My fiance went to pick up the vehicle about an hour later and he drove it home as if there was never a problem. Today (2 days later) while coming around a corner in town the vehicle stall again, but the steering column locked up this time and I had to immediately hit the brakes stopping the Jeep in the oncoming lane to avoid an off road adventure. Luckily there was no other traffic, but what if there was? what if the steering column locked up while I was doing 65mph down the highway? I use to love this vehicle, but now im afraid to drive it. I can't afford to have it looked at, I just got the Jeep out this afternoon because the passenger window fell inside the door and broke. My new window is now bolted to stay in the up position because I didn't have the extra couple hundred to replace the motor that was completely tore apart when the window came down. What's next?.

5 Power Window problem of the 2003 Jeep Laredo

Failure Date: 05/26/2008

Our window regulator failures began when the Jeep was less than a year old with the front passenger window. The next was the driver window in 2005. Now the passenger rear window has gone out. This window has been operated maybe 50 times. I was told on the second window that there was a problem with the original motors and they were installing a different type in the replacements. There was no offer to replace the remaining while still under warranty. At $400+ cost to repair, just can't wait for the last to go. Come on Jeep, you can do better.

6 Power Window problem of the 2000 Jeep Laredo

Front passenger window slid down inside the door. It is now shattered. I bought the car a few months prior with no problems , the window always worked fine. Now even the button to move the window does nothing. Glass needs to be replaced and also the regulator (window motor).

7 Power Window problem of the 2002 Jeep Laredo

Failure Date: 12/06/2007

Driver's side automatic window failed for no reason, while driving down the interstate. The window all of the sudden fell about 1/3 of the way. This was done under normal driving conditions. So far, nothing has been done to replace the part. I have been told it is the window regulator, and that this is a common issue in many Jeeps.

8 Power Window problem of the 2003 Jeep Laredo

Failure Date: 11/02/2007

I own a 2003 Jeep grand cherokee. I am currently replaced my 2nd window regulator (driver side and passenger side front) in 3 months. My brother-in-law owns the same vehicle (year/make) and has now had to replace 3 regulators. His mechanic told us that these parts are extremely prone to failure and he replaces so many of them that even the used parts are in high demand and cost as much as new and that Jeep won't recall them. I have done additional research online and has read so many other complaints of multiple window regulator failures on these Jeep vehicles. I contacted Jeep customer service and inquired about when they might consider a recall, and did not receive a clear answer. My family alone has replaced five Jeep window regulators and many more people are facing the same expensive problems.

13 Power Window problem of the 2001 Jeep Laredo

Failure Date: 08/02/2006

Visibility:power window divices and controls 2001 Jeep grande cherokee. Between spring 2006 passenger side window dropped during the night leaving my car open and exposed to weather. Window would not go up and since we were out of town we had to duct tape all around to drive 300 miles home. $450 to repair. 4 months later went for a swim and when I returned to my car the driver side window had dropped and would not go up. Car has ~70,000 miles and thought this to be quite unusual so did some research on the web and found out that this is a frequent occurrence with this model. One gentleman had received reimbursement from Chrysler so I thought I would give it a try. After several hours on the phone with Chrysler they agreed to reimburse so I mailed in both receipts equally ~$800 minus a $50 deductible. They called and told me that they had agreed to only pay for the most recent. I guess I should be thankful that I got something but I am not. If they acknowledge that this is a frequent occurrence why would they only pay for the one. I am just waiting for the next to drop. There should be automatic reimbursement for this repair on this model.

14 Power Window problem of the 2001 Jeep Laredo

Failure Date: 05/01/2006

Driver and passenger power window assemble broke with 3 months of each other. The vehicle is not even 5 years old yet. Shows poor manufacturing quality.

15 Power Window problem of the 2002 Jeep Laredo

Failure Date: 04/21/2006

For no specific reason the windows on the Jeep cherokee grand Laredo suddenly drop in their channels and will not come back up. I had a similar failure on a 2000 model previously owned, and now with my 2002 I had the same issue on December 31 2005 with the rear driver side window, and yesterday with the passenger front window. This morning I called Jeep customer service and was given the typical runaround. I have extended warranty and tried to get the deductible ($100 per occurrence) waived and that didn't work either. I was informed by my servicing deal that this is a known issue that was supposed to have been corrected in models starting in 2005 where they switched the plastic regulator for a metal one. I informed customer relations that this is not an isolated issue as two other coworkers have had the same issue on three windows in the same model trucks/year. Who knows how many others there are out there!. Daimler Chrysler obviously doesn't realize that this is a very dangerous situation than can expose drivers to accidents while driving if they have to pay attention to a sudden dropping window, or a potential personal safety issue if driving in a potentially dangerous area. Please investigate what can be done about it.

17 Power Window problem of the 1999 Jeep Laredo

Failure Date: 09/16/2005

Erratic, intermittent instrumentation failures over the past three years starting with the airbag light going on and off, a malfunctioning odometer and culminating in the recent failure of the speedometer. I suspect this is caused by a defective electrical connector as noted in company service bulletin #081599. I have not been able to obtain this info from either Chrysler or the Jeep dealership. Clearly this is a defective part and should be recalled by Chrysler as it is a safety hazard. Please refer to NHTSA complaints # 10025741, 896900, 723322, 10026823. . . In addition, my front passenger window crashed inside the door while driving. This was due to the plastic clip breaking in the window regulator that has since been redesigned. I have already had to replace the driver side window at the cost of several hundred dollars about a year ago for the exact same problem. Clearly this is a defective part and is not due to "normal wear and tear" and should be recalled by Chrysler as it is a safety hazard. In addition, my interior rear view mirror fell off my windshield into my lap while driving on the expressway in 2000. Was told the glue lost adhesion due to exposure to direct sunlight. It was fixed by dealer after I purchased a "mirror repair kit". Clearly this is bad design and an enormous safety hazard. I am presently driving my Jeep in a downtown metro area with three windows and a non- working speedometer until I can afford to get problems repaired.

18 Power Window problem of the 2001 Jeep Laredo

19 Power Window problem of the 2001 Jeep Laredo

Failure Date: 02/10/2005

Multiple failures with my 2001 Jeep grand cherokee just beyond the 3/36 warranty. The vehicle now has 55,000 miles: 1. Vehicle required a complete front brake overhaul: new pads, rotors, calipers. Also, . Hood props failed; 3. Water pump failed, window regulator failed, and rear hatch props beginning to fail these incidents all occurred between 36,000 and 55,000 miles (2004-2005). Eep takes no responsibility for anything beyond 36,000 miles. They offer extremely poor customer service at the corporate office. I strongly recommed against purchasing Jeep products.

22 Power Window problem of the 2002 Jeep Laredo

Failure Date: 11/28/2002

Poor design of power window regulator/motor assembly has led to my lf window to break. I have reviewed many resources online, and found that these Jeeps are notorious for this problem. The failure of this device caused a major distraction while driving at highway speeds, like most other people with this problem. Jeep/Chrysler needs to stop putting people at risk for such a ridiculous problem.
