My key will not turn in the ignition of the 2003 Jeep Liberty. The steering column was not locked and I tried for about 20 minutes to jiggle/turn the wheel, jiggle the automatic transmission shifter, etc. The key was inserted fully because electrical came on to alert me that the key was in the ignition (when I opened the driver door the warning beeps came on to signify key still in ignition). The ignition simply would not turn. I had to have my car towed to a mechanic and have since learned from online research that this is a very common problem with Jeep Liberty's and many Chrysler products. The solutions seem to be patchwork workarounds that people have come up with independent of Chrysler's help.
Both rear windows have fallen into window tracks due to failure of a $. 05 piece of plastic. The dealer repair is $600 to replace window accuator with no promise that the failure will not happen again, since the exact same part that fails is the exact same part that is replaced. It is simply a disgrace that an individual can "google" this issue on Jeep Liberty's and see that this happens everyday and has happened tp thousands of owners. How can Chrysler get away with this, and not be forced to repair a faulty part that is known to fail time and time again?.
Jeep Liberty 2003. Rear windows up/down mechanic breaks. . . Poor construction. . It breaks and the window fall down, leaving it open and with kids on the back sit are instantly exposed with the risk of putting parts of their bodies to the outside of the car. There are thousands of Jeep users complaining on the internet. . . Jeep has not step up to recall those defectives rear windows.
Control mechanism for the right rear electric window broke and window fell down. Would not roll up. Mechanic said control was broken and that whole control mechanism would have to be replaced as that is the only way that Jeep sell part even though only part of mechanism was broken and electric motor still worked. Very expensive repair for a part that should be sold separately. I have seen other similar complaints. Looks like this is a faulty part on the Jeep Liberty. Car only had 68000 miles even though it is a 2003.
While driving my 2003 Jeep Liberty sport, I heard a loud and distracting thud, only to discover that the back window on the drivers side had fallen into the door. The door also became jammed and I was unable to open it from either the inside or outside of the vehicle. This happened to the other back widow just 9 months prior to this incident. At that time I took my vehicle to an auto repair shop, and paid to have it fixed. I have read several complaints about this happening in the Jeep Liberty. The issue is a cheap, plastic part used in the window regulator. This is a design flaw, and Chrysler will only replace this part with another cheap plastic part, rather than using a sturdier metal part. This is an expense issue as well as a safety issue. The noise the window makes when it falls is very distracting. All the doors and windows should be functioning properly in case of emergencies, and the driver should be able to control the windows, in order to avoid dangerous debris flying into the car, not to mention having some control over outside elements. (weather) Chrysler really should do a recall, and stop charging Jeep owners to fix what is their fault in the first place-it is a design flaw in the Jeep Liberty. Many reports from Jeep owners mention this happening to the same window, or multiple windows over and over. There ought to be a class action lawsuit against Chrysler.
Was driving and all of sudden vehicle went out of control ,rolling over numerous times and ending up in the opposite lane. Vehicle was hit buy another vehicle and air bags never deployed. Car was completely demolished .
Power windows failing to stay up due to faulty regulators: two years ago the rear left window of my 2003 Liberty fell into the door casing. When using the atomatic buttons, the window would not go up and the window motor would simply attempt to raise the window with no success. Upon taking it to the Jeep dealer, they stated the window regulator neeeded to be replaced. After paying $227. 94, my window was fixed and back to normal. Surprisingly, a few months later, the right window fell while driving on the highway (this is a major safety issue). Back to the same dealership we went, for a second and unnecessary diagnostic (the maintence man said this was a problem he had frequently seen) to determine the regulator was broken. I paid to have the second window fixed and continued to drive my car. This week, the left rear window fell again while driving down the street in my neighborhood (20 mph). I contacted Jeep headquarters directly after researching online (inculding the NHTSA website) that this is clearly not an isolated incident and they have neglected to address the saftey issue with their automobile owners. They are requesting that I take my Jeep back in for another diagnostic, and to confirm there has been no "neglect" of maintenance on my part. My Jeep has just over 65,000 miles – it is in perfect condition with the exception of faulty windows. Upon inspection of the dealer this week, Jeep says they will determine the next step depending on the results. This issue is dangerous for multiple reasons - children riding in the car, the frightening noise made from the dropping window, lack of security when parking the car/at a stop, weather (rain, hail, snow, etc. ), drivers startled by the drop and attempting to assess the situation while driving, etc. According to Jeep headquarters via phone, they dishonestly claim to be unaware of the situation.
Within the past year, my 2002 Jeep Liberty limited has had a sudden loss of power and mobility. The vehicle tends to roughly shake. The steering wheel wobbles/shakes along with the entire car. It's a random problem and does not happen on a daily basis. The vehicle has been to the dealership and they cannot find anything wrong with the Liberty. They say that we need 4 brand new tires because they feel since we did not have the tires rotated this is what is causing the problem. The problem happens many times a week. Sometimes it will go for a week or so and be fine. Other times, it will occur on a regular basis.
I have a 2003 Jeep Liberty and the electric window motors have gone out 4 times from 2007 to present. 3 motor/regulators have stopped working in the rear drive window (the original and 2 replacements), and now the passenger side window motor is out. The window just drops and will only move manually.
I have a 2003 Jeep Liberty for which I heard recall some months back. I inquired at my dealership in Aug ( greenbriar Jeep) and was told I would get a notice. Well, I did receive notice 11/12. When I called dealer today 11/13, I was told they did not have parts, and the parts were already 2 weeks behind. If this is a safety issue there should be enough repair kits for all vehicles involved. Is there anyway of expediting this repair? I am very concerned with this kind of delay where safety in driving the vehicle is in question. Respectfully submitted, m. Sherman.
Problem is with rear power windows when the assembly breaks the cable jams the door lock and you can not open the rear door.
I have replaced nine window regulators, affecting all four windows. The windows simply drop into the door frame, leaving passengers vulnerable and the Jeep unsecured.
Service dept. Unable to duplicate the consumer's many complaints, therefore no repairs were performed. (nar).
When changing a front tire on my 2003 Jeep Liberty limited, I discovered that the jack does not completely seat into the notch on the body weld seam. The edges of the notch are sloped. The width of the jack allows it to only go about half way into the notch. After jacking up my Liberty and beginning to change the tire, the jack slipped. No damage or injury resulted, but this could cause problems. The local Jeep dealer's solution was to grind out the notch. I don't know if this problem is limited to my Liberty or if the dealer reported this to Jeep.
2003 Jeep Liberty limited-humming/vibration on right side of vehicle-extremely bad in the morning but can be heard throughout the day as the vehicle is driven. Chrysler tech is aware of this defect in some Libertys but doesn't know why it occurs or how to fix the problem. They have instead chosen to call this a normal characteristic of the vehicle. Owners of vehicles with this defect may be at risk since Chrysler has no idea what is causing the vibration/humming and no current fix for the problem.
Consumer was inconvenienced when she dropped her vehicle off for repairs but the dealer had ran out of parts. (nar).
