Shift cable failed when we rolled to a stop. Went to put the Jeep in park. Would not go. Would not go into reverse. Managed to force it into neutral but that was it. Had to manually push the Jeep backwards to try to turn it around to take it to a shop. Key would not come out as a result making battery go dead. Very unsafe because if that shifter cable broke at a higher speed it may or may not have messed the transmission up or allowed us to shut the vehicle off. For instance it it were in drive and could not be shut off what would we do? found out from local Jeep dealers that they have to replace several of these a week. My personal mechanic was unable to secure one for several days because they were sold out all in our region. Suspect this is a big problem. No word from Jeep on this! mechanic was stunned how poorly made the cable is and was surprised it lasted as long as it did!.
First the drivers rear regulator failed, causing the window to fall and break inside the door. I replaced both the window and the regulator. Six months later the passenger rear regulator failed and the window dropped in the door. This time it did not break the glass. Just a month after the warenty on the driver rear expired, it failed again. Now I have no working back windows. The service manager at the local dealership ackowledged this as an issue but stated there is no recall. He recomended that I take it up whith Chrysler. They claim it the problem exists but not with this year. They told me because I did not buy it new nor use the dealership for my service they would not help. With the glass breaking this is more than an inconvenience, it is dangerous. Chrysler knows this is an issue and is ripping people off by charging them over $400. 00 to replace these with parts that will fail again.
I cannot control my vehicle while driving on the highway. The steering column seems to be very loose and the Jeep shimmies. It seems that when you reach maybe 50 mph the back end seems to pull to the right while you are trying to drive straight. Causing alot of shaking and pulling going on. A very unsteady ride. And noticed when trying to stop at the fast pace the front end wants to go to the left while the back end wants to go to the right. Very scary driving conditions. Took it to the Jeep dealer last year and they told me that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle, that Jeeps have alot of play in the steering. But when I noticed that when I go over a bump a loud clanking noise happens I decided to look on line to see what the problem could be and I saw that there was a recall on ball joints, so I thought it could be that. I took it into the dealership yesterday and they told me that there was something wrong, described exactly what I was dealing with and told me that they would find out. To my dismay, they said it was my rear lowe control arms that needed to be replaced and would charge me over 600 to fix. Now finding out that others are having the same issue and some have resulted in a wreck. Something needs to be done regarding this issue before someone loses their lives.
It is a well documented fact regarding the continued negligence of Chrysler/Jeep regarding the defective window regulators. The window regulator controls the electric window and keeps it in place. With no warning the defective part frequently breaks causing the window to fall into the door-the window cannot be rolled up. The first time this happened 11/09 I had two small children in the back seat during a thunderstorm. I was traveling on the freeway. Suddenly the window dropped into the rear drivers door. The children started screaming as rain came into the vehicle and I had to pull over onto the side of the freeway. I had to call for help and a family member drove 60 miles to pick up the children as we sat on the side of the road with pouring rain coming into the vehicle. After investigating the matter and spending 357. 00 to get it fixed,I realised this has become a chronic safety issue for this vehicle. Jeep fixes the window with the same faulty part, they reimbursed me for most of the cost however 21 months later. . . . . The same thing all over again and this time they don't want to cover it and of course they still fix it with the same dangerous part. It now costs 400-500$ to fix it. Thousands of Jeep Liberty owners have dealt with this problem over and over. I don't understand how Chrysler/Jeep can get away with this blatant safety issue.
The left rear window just fell down inside the door when I was driving. We took the door apart (so we could close the window) and found out it was a faulty window regulator. I called everywhere for a part and the only one that has it is a dealer at a hefty price. I was told that it is a commom problem and the dealer checked my VIN # and I was told mine was not on a recall list. On my many phone calls to various parts supplier stores, I was told that the part is junk and it would probably happen again. The dealer says there is a one year warrantly on the part. It just seems to me that it is a no win situation, for the consumer anyway. Total cost of repair, parts and labor - $283. 48. Rediculous!.
We have a 2005 Jeep Liberty that we purchased new. Since that point the rear windows have spontaneously fallen down five times. 3 time the windows were replace under warranty, the last two times Jeep has refused to cover the repair since the vehicle is out of warranty. The repair cost is approx $400 each time and they replace the broken part with the same faulty part that breaks again.
I've had multiple window regulator failures (leaving my car open to theft and damage), seat belt broken, and air condition compressor, and rear axel problems. All issues happened shortly after the warranty expired.
I purchased a gently used car from a Chrysler dealership that had two open safety recalls. I was not informed of these recalls at the time of my purchase. It is my understanding that this is an offense against the NHTSA. Please feel free to contact me for further information. I hope this will never happen to anyone else buying from a so-called "reputable" dealer, as I thought I was.
1. A) ck engine lt came on, heavy black smoke, Jeep would stall, fuel mil decreased,b) a/c quit working,c) Jeep violently jerked while accelerating/braking, Jeep would lurch after coming to a complete stop, Jeep stalled during turns and in middle of intersections leaving the Jeep stuck in the path of oncoming traffic,d) safety recall of lower ball joints,e) while out of state, driving home at pm on highway, the elect throttle and battery warning lights started flashing, electronics and lights on Jeep failed, Jeep stalled on highway and would not restart, f) after p/u the Jeep up from the shop for a new starter and battery, within 30 miles, same warning lights appeared, electr quit, and Jeep again stalled in traffic and would not restart, rear hatch opened and windows stuck down 2. A) wouldn't run properly, unsafe to drive b)a/c quit c)not safe operate Jeep for 5 days until auth dealer could take in thejeep d) recall replacement e) had to have Chrysler tow to shop (first site didn't even work on diesels, second didn't have a certified diesel tech in) f) had to have Chrysler tow to shop 3. A)egr etc replaced but in shop for 5 days due to backorder on parts b) transducer switch replaced, refrigerant refilled; safety backup switch on a/c not replaced because part was on backorder, part installed a month later c) authorized dealer stated diagnostics showed transmission failure to include front pump, seals, and other misc. Parts with the torque converter out of range, service bullentin issued by Chrysler indicated parts were on backorder, parts installed after 10 days in the shop d) lower ball joint kit installed, in shop and unable to drive for 1 day e) installed new starter, let Jeep sit for 1 day and was not able to start, put in new battery and stated Jeep was fixed, unable to drive Jeep 7 days f) Jeep still there, no power, may be the alternator but because battery is dead, the failure history is unretrievable, not able to diag problems other thean prob electrical.
On the 2005 and 2006 diesel Jeep Liberty (4x4) the oil filtered is exposed to damage when off roading. Currently, there is no skid plate available for the oil filter. While off road a rock hit the oil filter and opened a hole which drained all oil and caused vehicle to turn off.
