general problems of the 2008 Jeep Liberty

2008 Jeep Liberty 4x4 purchased used with 18,000 miles. When re-fueling the pump will shut off automatically and gas will burp out every time. Sometimes it is a lot of gas and very dangerous. I've seen this issue all over the internet. Why isn't something being done about this?.

When filling the vehicle up with gasoline, it spews out of the intake, draining all over the vehicle and the ground of the gas station. Not only is this a waste of a resource and money but it is very dangerous as one spark could ignite the entire gas station killing innocent children and other citizens. This is a very common problem, there are many complaints all over this site and many others. This problem needs to be resolved before people are hurt.

When filling my Jeep at multiple gas stations I have experienced overflow. It runs down the side of the car and all over the ground. It has happened numerous times at different stations. It seems dangerous and is obviously a waste of money.

Every time I fill the Liberty up with fuel is overflows and spills out. It does not matter if I pump the fuel fast or slow, it spills out every time. This is an extremely dangerous situation for me, my family and everyone around me when I put fuel in.

I bought my Jeep in June with just over 36000 miles. It was previously a rental vehicle. Everything was fine until about September when I filled gas and the pump clicked off and gas came out all over at about 42000 miles. I thought it was the gas pump, but then I went to other stations and it happened every time. I was going to bring it in to have it looked at but I see other people have the same problem. It is very irritating to have it happen every time! please have a recall!.

While filling 2008 Jeep liberity, past 6 times, the gas tends to seep out. Mileage when started ~43k miles. Even when the rubber cover over the gas nozzle fits snug with the throat of the gas inlet, gas has leaked.

I have a 2008 Jeep Liberty that will not shut off the gas valve when I am pumping gas. I previously had a 2005 Jeep Liberty that had the same problem. I feel this is a safety issue since gas drips down the side of the car, tire and eventually on the person pumping gas creating a very large puddle of gas that requires cleanup from the gas attendant. This has happened with 2 different styles of Jeeps at various gas stations.

Every time I fuel my 2008 Jeep Liberty the fuel nozzle does not shut off properly when full, causing fuel to spew out onto the car, my hands, my clothing and the concrete beneath the car at the gas station. I complained to the dealer while the vehicle was under warranty on 3/9/2010 and they replaced the filler tube. The repair did not fix the problem. I have been living with this issue for a year now. Today, while at the gas station, the person in the isle next to me, driving a 2008, 4-door Jeep wrangler, had the same issue. I asked her about it and she said the problem had just begun for her in the past month, but it now happens to her every fuel up. I decided I would look into it further. After seeing the multiple online posts, I decided to make a complaint, as this is obvioiusly a defect with Jeep vehicles.

While filling my Jeep with gasoline the pump is never triggered to shutoff and it causes a lot of fuel spilling all over me, the car and the ground. Prompting me to quickly clean myself and the car. This is an extremely dangerous situation not only due to its flammability but also its potential carcinogenic effects.

When refueling, vehicle gushes fuel back out at the consumer after pump clicks off. Has done this many times since I bought it last month. It is dangerous and environmentally bad to spew fuel on consumer and on the ground, for fire and health reasons.

When filling up with gas the Jeep spews gas back out forcefully and about 4 cups fly out all over some times the nozzle clicks and some times it does not. I have had this Jeep for over one year and this started happening for over a month now. 2008 Jeep Liberty 4x4. I called the dealer and they said no recall. This is very dangerous as the gas comes out fast and sprays. I don't think I should have to pay for this as it is a hazard and not a maintenance issue.

During regular refill the car spilled fuel, around 250ml of it. In last 2 month it is a regular occurrence and poses a safety hazard for the car occupants along with the gas station.

Every time I fuel up, if I leave it filling up automatically, gas spews out when it gets to full and goes everywhere. Even if I am trying to watch the gallons and stop before it gets to full, it still spews everywhere. I thought this was specific to my vehicle, but I've now seen hundreds of reports on the internet regarding the very same issues with this year and model of Jeep, plus many other years and models.

I just returned from alexander Chrysler Jeep in franklin, TN 615-794-5000. They tried to blame a vacuum hose for letting gasoline fumes in the cabin of the 2008 Jeep Liberty to avoid a warranty fix. This is where the my health and safety complaint comes in. My wife has been complaining about being sick with headaches and stomach pain for months. Originally we took the Jeep in for "gas cap" warning on the odometer and engine light. Nothing was found. Today I took the Jeep in an alexander found a clearly abraded or deteriorated vacuum hose that they said could allow the gas fumes into the cabin. My wife has been breathing this for months and if this is a common problem this exposes occupants to toxic fumes and risks an explosion hazard in the engine compartment. This needs to be investigated ASAP. If you can contact me ASAP I can let you see this hose as it sits.
