My 2008 Jeep Liberty has overflowed fuel when filling the tank 3 out of the 6 times I have filled it since purchased on 11/28. It has happened at several different gas stations. When the pump kicks off there is between 2-8 ounces of fuel that spit back around the handle with a fair amount of pressure. The area underneath the filler cap is soaked and a large puddle forms on the ground. I am concerned that at some point a fire may result. I also feel I must wash the car after every incident because I worry about the gas causing a paint defect.
I purchased a used 2008 Jeep Liberty in may of 2011. Everything was fine until mid-December 2011 while I was filling up the gas tank. The pump shut off automatically but gas spouted out of the fill all over the pump handle and my hand. It's a considerable amount of gas spilling down the side of the vehicle and puddling on the ground. This now happens every time I fill the tank unless I try to cut it off early. This is a safety issue because of the danger of spilled gas and an major inconvenience. I see hundreds of similar complaints online so clearly this is not an isolated problem. I strongly urge NHTSA to investigate this issue and compel Chrysler to correct the problem.
A significant amount of gas spills out of the fuel tank opening after the automatic shut-off of the pumps gas flow. This occurs almost every time I fill up. I now have to only allow the tank to fill up 3/4 full to avoid spills.
While filling up my 2008 Jeep Liberty the gas pump shuts off automatically as it should have but, a large amount of gas spills out of the gas tank fill tube all over the ground, vehicle, and on the person pumping the gas when holding the nozzle grip manually. This occurs every time I fill up and occurs even when manually holding the fuel pump nozzle. I filed a complaint through mycarstats. Com but noticed that the reports on this issue have started to increases quite a bit since my report a few months ago. The complaints are spread throughout many complaint forums on the internet. This seems to be a huge problem across the board and is a very dangerous issue since it is dealing with a highly combustible substance. Many have taken this up with various dealerships and have gotten nowhere. This is where the government needs to step in and get this issue on the recall list for Jeep Liberty's and wrangler's.
During fueling at the end of the process the fuel pump will "click" off. After the click, a fair amount of fuel spills from the fuel tank down the side of my vehicle and the ground. This is a dangerous condition to the environment and a waste of fuel.
While filling up my 2008 Jeep Liberty the gas pump shut off automaticly as it should have, but a large amount of gas spude out of the gas tank fill tube all over the ground and vehicle. This is the second time in a row that this has happened with this vehicle. It seems to be an issue witht he tank venting. Vehicle has only 19,254 miles on it.
Every time I fill up my gas tank the nozzle does not trigger to release the shut off on the gas coming back out of the input which results in a lot of gas overflowing back onto my vehicle, the ground and my clothes. This happens even if I watch the amount of gallons being put into the tank and try and shut it off ahead of time.
When putting gasoline into the gas tank, the pump is never triggered to turn off. Thus causing a substantial amount of fuel to gush out of the tank and all over the vehicle, the ground and sometimes the person pumping the fuel.
The gastank overflows and spits out a considerable amount of gasoline every time you get gas! it is a hazard and a safety issue. I have contacted Chrysler Jeep for a year now and they refuse to assist in correcting the problem. I have attempted to get the gastank repaired and it still will not work properly. From my research there are many of these complaints online about this same issue. I can't believe Jeep has not issued a recall on these vehicles. I am worried everyday about the safety of me and my family. I'm not willing to take any more chances with gas all over the truck every time I drive, and how can I go about selling a car to someone with this problem. I am not sure where to go next. I hope you can help in this matter.
At around the 74,000 mile marker, my gas tank began spewing out gasoline upon filling up at the gas station. The tank holds roughly 17. 5 gallons, and the nozzle (up to this point) would always automatically shut off upon a full tank when at the pump. Now, when the tank is nearing full, the fuel spills out of the gas tank, leaking gasoline all over the side of the vehicle, on my hands, shoes, clothes and ground. The only way to try and avoid this issue is to estimate a cut-off point in which to stop pumping fuel at around the 17. 0 gallon mark, which is still very hard to do without the spillage occurring and often leaves me with a partial fillup to avoid getting soaked in gasoline. As of 4 days ago, my gascap and check engine indicator lights came on. I've fully refueled 3 times since then and tightened the gas cap and the lights have not disappeared. I often suffer headaches from the gasoline fumes that I carry back into the vehicle on my hands, clothes and feet from the gas spillage that occurs when I fill up. This problem seems to be very common amongst Jeep owners based on the amount of forums I've found online.
When filling the gastank as normal, gasoline overflows from the gastank. It spews a significant amount (approx 1/4 liter of gasoline).
I have discussed this with other Jeep Liberty owners and have gone on line and have seen this to be a complaint of many. I also called Jeep and filed a complaint with them directly. They say there is no recall for this type of thing happening. This can't be very safe having a quarter of a gallon of gas shooting out every time you fill up the tank. Please help.
