1 Cruise Control problem of the 2008 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 01/23/2021

I'm speeding up as I'm passing a truck on 395, signaling with left blinker. Start speed as beginning to pass is approx. 55 mph. I signal right as I pull back in the south bound lane, take my foot off the gas pedal as I notice I'm driving 80 mph. The gas pedal is stuck and the car is going 80 mph on its own. I step on the brake carefully but its rock hard and doesn't move at all. At this point the car is stuck at 80 mph. I try to brake again but the same - brake pedal is stuck, doesn't move at all and is rock hard. Road conditions are good so I'm in a "controlled panic", and try the brake one more time. This time the brakes engage and I get the car down to 65 mph. I don't want to burn the brakes so I release the brake and immediately the car speeds up on its own to 80 mph. I repeat. Slow to 65 mph, step off the brake and again the car immediately speeds up to 80 mph. At this point my thoughts go to cruise control (which I had not activated or used on this trip). I pull the "cancel" on the cruise control, nothing. I try again and look at the dashboard where the cruise control light is "off", indicating cruise control is not on. I turn the cruise control on and pull the "cancel" again and brake. This time the car comes out of it, and I turn the cruise control off again. Since the cruise control was not even on to begin with, I don't know if that's what actually made the car unfreeze. I was lucky I was on a straight stretch of road with no traffic in front of me. Since I was passing a truck I'm not 100% sure if I sped up to 80 mph or if the car suddenly did that on its own. I do believe the car did that, as there was no reason to get up to that speed to pass safely.

2 Cruise Control problem of the 2004 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 03/29/2019

I drove for about an hour on a steep mountain road. Sometimes using the overdrive to go up steep grades. The cruise control would not work. I made it to town and was on the main road stopped in traffic. Suddenly, the rpms raced and the Jeep accelerated on its own. I had my foot on the brake, but had to put it in park to stop it, but not before it hit then truck in front of me. I was shaken up and checked the floor mat to make sure it was not touching the gas pedal. It was not.

3 Cruise Control problem of the 2012 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 04/28/2018

While driving on the highway at 70 mph, straight, flat road and the cruise control was set and the vehicle suddenly accelerated on its own and I was unable to DE-activate the cruise control with the buttons and it took 2 attempts applying the brake before it disengaged. This has happened twice, approx a month apart when I decided to try and use the cc again. This is a very disheartening situatioin to be in and even worse when you have our child in the car as I did.

4 Cruise Control problem of the 2011 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 08/10/2017

While driving my 2011 Jeep Liberty with the cruise control set at 70mph on I-65 interstate coming out of gary indiana the tell-tales lit up and the car dropped out of cruise control and it took the car a few seconds to gain power again. This all started with the drivers door not unlocking with the remote. A diagnostics was run on the car and they said they couldn't find anything wrong, other than a rear sensor on the brake making the brake light come on. Doing an internet research the tipm sensor is the cause of most of these problems which Chrysler doesn't want to admit. This same issue was deemed not an issue a few years back by the NHTSA with the Liberty but deemed no good by the NHTSA for the Jeep cherokee and Dodge durango. This was a dangerous situation for me and my family. If I hadn't took action as quick as I did we would have been rear ended by a semi. I don't feel safe driving this SUV and this is my wife's car which she takes my son to school in. The NHTSA needs to do something about this issue now.

5 Cruise Control problem of the 2012 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 05/28/2017

For the past few months I have had electric issues with my car; I. E power doors lock/unlock doesn't work at all, back windshield wiper doesn't work, windows will not roll up, and dimming/flickering of interior/exterior lights which are all due to a faulty tipm. Which I have been informed is a very expensive fix. As of today as I was driving with cruise control on my car had a mind of it's own and accelerated to a higher speed revving the car up to 4000 rpms on a flat straight road. I tried to turn off and cancel cruise control on the steering wheel with which did nothing. I then pressed the break several times and again nothing. After having a complete panic attack and trying everything I could to turn cruise off it eventual went off on it's own. I have been made aware but other individuals having similar electric problems all caused by a faulty tipm. This is a very dangerous issue and there needs to be a recall. Is it going to take someone dying for Chrysler to care?.

6 Cruise Control problem of the 2002 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 07/23/2015

On July 23, 2015, while driving on the interstate highway, at approximately 55 miles/hour, the odometer, speedometer and cruise control simultaneously stopped working for no apparently known reason. When arriving at my destination in another state, (approx. 60 miles), I researched the internet for potential problems. A number of other 2002 Jeep Liberty owners had experienced similar problems. Additionally, several owners had experienced engine stalling when braking at a stoplight or intersection. On July 28, 2015, when traveling on an interstate highway, I pulled off to the safety lane to take a telephone call. While I was slowly pushing on the brake pedal to move safely to curb lane, the engine stopped working, as did my steering. Quick thinking - having read prior owners' comments - told me to put the car in neutral and turn the ignition key on. That worked! I got the car safely to the side lane. I am in the process of getting problems corrected; however, other owners have stated that the problem of stalling persists.

8 Cruise Control problem of the 2012 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 12/03/2014

On 3 different occasions, first one driving on 95 from new york on December 3, 2014, I put on cruise control and car accelerated out of my control, brakes didn't work and I had to cross over lanes and tried everything to stop car, drove in to a ditch and car died, wouldn't restart for hours. The second time was March 6 2015 in florida, I was just driving along and the car just got out from under me at a very fast speed and I couldn't stop it, I threw it into park and the car died and the ignition just kept doing a clicking noise, left it over night because it wouldn't start, had to have it flatbed away, the car started the next day?? now on April 3rd 2015 it happened when I was going 3 miles an hour in my parking lot and the Jeep accelerated and I drove straight between 2 parked cars and over a handicap sign to stop, now it has been sitting since Friday in to a parking spot that my neighbors helped me push it in to, I could of been killed or hurt others. This car is in pristine condition, well maintained and low mileage. . . Who can help me???.

11 Cruise Control problem of the 2002 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 11/04/2012

While driving I activated the cruise control at 57 mph. The Jeep kept accelerating. The speedometer read 50 mph. I tapped the brake to disengage the cruise control and the speedometer jumped up to 70 mph. I did this a second time with the same results. I've had this vehicle a year and may have had this happen one other time. I got a ticket for going 68 mph when I thought I was going 50 mph. I got a $110. 00 fine. I cannot recall if the cruise control was activated at that time. I owned the vehicle for a few weeks then.

12 Cruise Control problem of the 2003 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 04/26/2010

While traveling on damp pavement in damp/misty (but not rainy) conditions, on a roadway with a moderate uphill slope and gradual left curve, the cruise control down-shifted from over-drive directly into 1st gear. The increased torque on the rear wheels/tires caused the car to lose rear wheel traction and the subsequent complete loss of control of the car. The Jeep Liberty spun around a total of 540 degrees and came to rest in a ditch off the opposite side of the road, some damage. This characteristic of the cruise control downshifting multiple gears has been confirmed on many other occasions in this model of car, nearly causing loss of control depending on roadway conditions.

Failure Date: 12/04/2006

New vehicle, less than 50 miles odometer. Engaged cruise control at 55 mph, several miles later tapped brake to disengage cruise control to slow for a turn. Brake would not disengage cruise control, neither would the 'off' button on left side of steering wheel. Cancel button on right side of wheel did shut off the cruise control. 17 Cruise Control problem of the 2005 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 05/27/2005

2005 Jeep Liberty crd will "sling shot" itself when starting from a stop with the a/c on. When you start to accelerate making a turn from being stopped the vehicle will start to move and you can feel, hear the engine gaining rpm but not movement then a sudden slingshot effect will take place. The selling dealer said it was normal for a diesel engine with a turbo to do this. Also stated it was in the electronics and there wasn't any thing they could do to repair it. I would have to wait for a factory bulletin to come out. This new vehicle pulls to the right constantly, I requested the alignment to be corrected during the same dealership visit as above. I was told my alignment was checked and there was no abnormal tire wear so it must be the crown of the road causing the pull or drift. This vehicle also surges when the cruise control is engaged and you start up an incline, it will continue to surge as long as the incline lasts. After picking the vehicle up at the dealership today I started home and all three of the faults occurred. I returned to the dealership and the shop foreman went with me , where the vehicle again acted up. He said there was not any thing they could do about the surging and the alignment and the sling shotting was turbo lag. I have not diven the vehicle on wet or snow covered pavement, however, with what does I not sure I want to.

19 Cruise Control problem of the 2004 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 02/16/2004

While driving 65 mph with the cruise control engaged, the vehicle would not hold it's speed when going down an incline. The dealer was notified, and replaced the cruise control servo, but the problem recurred. (cruise had no back pressure when going down hills).
