1 Headlight Switch problem of the 2010 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 04/13/2021

I have a 2010 Jeep Liberty sport and it's headlights continue to go off on me while on the highway and it's only noticeable at night in which is not safe. I've changed both light bulbs in which worked and then went out within 20 mins agai at night on the highway. Then I changed the 30amp/relay. Then I changed the dimmer switch. All of this did not work. Then the dealer changed the windshield that is located on the right hand side and it worked for about a week with the passenger side light going out but working when I shimmy the cord of conductor. But like it did previously it's now not just the passenger light as both lights are again not working. And they are starting to flicker then just goes out altogether to where now the shimmy is no longer effective. Now I've done all I can do on the electrical realm but it seems as though everything I've attempted is just temporary or does not work at all. What is the problem. Please help!.

2 Headlight Switch problem of the 2002 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 02/03/2019

Headlights will shut off while driving at night. While driving at night the headlights will intermittently shut themselves off and then turn back on approximately 10 to 15 seconds later. I have tried switching the lights completely off and back on to see if the headlights began working but they did not. I have searched the web and this site and found multiple complaints with no resolution or recall. This is a serious safety issue as there is no way to immediately correct the issue while driving or predict when it will occur. The vehicle is in motion when this occurs. The lights will come back on and stay on for a little while and then shut back off again. Sometimes they will flash from low beams to high beams and then shut off which makes it dangerous for the cars that are driving towards me. This has happened on several occasions so far and at this point I am scared to drive at night.

3 Headlight Switch problem of the 2010 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 05/01/2015

2010 Jeep Liberty limited 4x4 began to intermittently start and not have headlights, sometimes the lights would not come on at all, other times only the parking lights would work, and other times only the headlights would work. It was taken to both a Jeep dealer as well as a local garage and no one could find an issue. They tried replacing the switch but this did not help either. Eventually, the issue got worse and the lights have now shut off while driving at night on highways, local roads, ect. And has become unsafe to drive. Jeep still claims to never have seen anything like this however multiple complaints exists online for similar complaints, a local garage told me about the tipm issues and even upon suggesting the replacement of this part, Jeep insisted this couldn't be the issue. Now the lights are really acting up, shutting off while driving, flashing frequently, only parking lights work sometimes, sometimes only one light works, and other issues are beginning (starting randomly, horn / alarm randomly going off, ect) Jeep still refusing that this is the issue and wants to replace / repair other things first. Currently looking into replacement tipm personally, as at this point, the Jeep Liberty is unsafe to drive, especially at night.

4 Headlight Switch problem of the 2002 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 09/15/2014

I was driving my vehicle down the highway when my vehicle made a loud popping sound that sounded like it came through the stereo system. I noticed all power to my car went out. The radio, lights, dash, headlights, everything shut off. I went and tried everything. I thought maybe a fuse had blown, not the case. I replaced head lamps, and the lights still didnt work. I changed my steering switch out and have since figured out it must be an electrical issue? I have read many many pages about people with this same issue or very similar. I can no longer drive the vehicle at this time because I dont feel safe in it and its not street safe.

5 Headlight Switch problem of the 2011 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

After stopping at a rest area on trip from lucas ohio to cinccinnati upon leaving found head lights not working. After approx. 1/2 hour lights came on so placed on auto and they work now, but now noticed while driving and it starts raining wipers don't work all the time also when this happens theres no horn, turn signals,or wipers so we are starting to worry about being on highway and starts raining wipers wont work and have needed horn several times and it don't work. We have noticed that when the digital compass on dash is off that the following don't work, including headlight switch, wipers, horn, turnsignals, cruse control, steering wheel radio controls, seems all problems are centered around the compass on dash going off and all steering wheel electrical components!.

7 Headlight Switch problem of the 2003 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 09/19/2013

After turning on the headlights they flicker or go out completely while driving. There is also a loud clicking noise from under the driver side dash board while the lights flicker. I've checked many online websites/community forum sites and there are many postings about this same issue for just about every Jeep make, year and model. Many people have referenced issues with the multi-function switch. With the numerous people reporting this dangerous issue (due to the lights going out while driving at night and some people have experienced issues with aggressive driver thinking the person in the Jeep was flashing their lights in an aggressive manner) I'm surprised their isn't a recall or technical service bulletin. . . The local dealerships have confirmed on multiple calls they were not aware of any technical service bulletin for the lighting issue.

8 Headlight Switch problem of the 2012 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 02/02/2013

Had vehicle at dealership about 3 weeks prior for a heavy burning smell inside and out side of vehicle. Smelled like burnt wiring. Was told by dealer it was a sticker on the exhaust pipe. Was told it was fine and might smell it for a short time. . Smell is still there and last night vehicle was on snow covered road with on coming traffic and the headlights and all interior lights were lost. . Headlight switch was moved back and fourth from auto, on, and off numerous times till lights came back on and it did it again on the way home in the morning. Going to take it back to dealer about an hour away for the second time. . Not sure why Chrysler doesnt take time to look at things properly and listen to the owners. A sticker burning off doesnt smell like burnt wiring. .

9 Headlight Switch problem of the 2003 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 11/05/2012

While driving headlights momentarily shut off . There is a click under the dash, and they go off when on low beam, if on high beam they switch to low beam. Had this problem occur several times. My mechanic is un able to find the problem, and from checking with other Liberty owners this is a recurring issue. It is not only annoying but extremely dangerous.

10 Headlight Switch problem of the 2004 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 08/27/2012

Headlights switch off and on by themselves. You can hear a click and the lowbeams just go out. I live in a rural area with no street lamps. I almost hit a deer because the headlights went out. This happens all the time and is very dangerous.

11 Headlight Switch problem of the 2002 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 01/01/2012

The headlights turn off for up to 2 seconds while I am driving. The pattern seems to occur at all different speeds and may or may not be associated with using the turning signals or the act of turning. I tried replacing the headlight relay, and that did not fix the problem. It seems to be getting worse, and I worry that it will get so bad I will not be able to drive at night. I currently suspect a problem with the multifunction switch or simply a loose wire somewhere. On one occasion, my interior lights turned on while I was driving on the expressway at night and not touching the multifunction stalk at all-not sure if that is related, and again, it only happened once. This is a safety hazard and a hassle. I'm constantly worried that I will be pulled over for flashing my headlights or that I'll be driving blind when an animal runs out in front of me.

12 Headlight Switch problem of the 2002 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 02/09/2011

The contact owns a 2002 Jeep Liberty. The contact was driving approximately 35 mph with the headlights in activation when the lights began to fail intermittently. The failure would also occur when the engine was turned off. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and an authorized dealer on two different occasions. The headlight switch was replaced and the battery was replaced twice. Currently, the vehicle was being repaired by the dealer. The failure mileage was 118,000 .

13 Headlight Switch problem of the 2002 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 07/25/2010

Headlights switch off without intermittently, without command, at random intervals when driving. Appears to occur in conjunction with, or shortly after, using the turn signal. Nothing has yet been done to correct the failure, though I am told the problem is caused by a defective multifunction turn stalk.

14 Headlight Switch problem of the 2004 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 06/01/2010

Headlights spontaneously switch off then back on, sometimes several times in succession. This occurs nearly every time the vehicle is operated with lights on. Individual episodes last anywhere from 1-5 sec, occur multiple times during one drive interval. Significant safety risk for "blind" driving (no headlights) and incorrect interpretation of signals to other drivers.

15 Headlight Switch problem of the 2002 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 03/03/2007

Without warning the body control module shorts out draining the battery and damaging the multi-control switch on the steering column. Causing the headlights, interiorlights, running lights, windshield wipers, factory electric door locks, and dashboard lights to fail. This can cause a fire resulting in a total vehicle loss or loss of lighting at night while driving causing the driver to loose sight of the road. In rain conditions loss of wipers during driving would cause loss of visibility creating a dangerous driver on the road.

16 Headlight Switch problem of the 2004 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 12/12/2003

While driving at 25 mph, the driver side air bag deployed for no logical reason. The consumer lost control of the vehicle and collided with an embankment. The vehicle never ran over anything or hit anything before the mishap. The consumer suffered a sprained wrist, a concussion and trauma to his back. The consumer also reported that before the air bag deployed, that electrical currents from the steering wheel were shocking who ever drove the vehicle. This electrical shock has happened on three different occasions and the dealer has tried to find the source. The manufacturer and the dealer were aware problem. Headlights go out intermittently, dealer replaced switch.
