Headlights Problems of Jeep Liberty - part 1

I was leaving wendys a fast food place and the headlights turned on then shut off I tried to turn them on again and they wouldn't come back on. I couldn't leave without lights so I disconnected the battery cables and tied them together for 10 minutes. Then I restarted the car and they worked for a while.

After driving the vehicle to my destination and shutting it off. It will not restart when I go to drive it to the next location . This has happened numerous times. It has left me stranded a couple times. While driving the vehicle to a location the headlights seem to dim on their own. After having a mechanic look at it. I was told it was the tipm causing the issues.

When problem starts wipers go on dash lights come on dash gauges do not work no speedometer ac defroster heater do not work brakes do not work right headlights go out no blinkers no lights on inside of car car says no bus where the gear selecter is dash they have replaced the tpn 3 times and the wiring cluster 4 times they brought in specialist from detroit to work on this car and can not figure out what is making this car do this they keep saying it is the tpn or the wiring cluster after replacing several times it still doing the same things.

The headlights will go off while driving, so far they have come back on within 5 seconds, however, that is a long time without lights. I purchased the car used about 5 months ago so I do not know whether it was happening to the prior owner. It has happened 6 times since the beginning of September 2015. This car was purchased for my daughter who is turning 16y/o in October. The is dangerous for an experienced driver let alone a new driver. This issue is all over the internet dating back to at least 2008. Why has nothing been done.

The headlights go out randomly when they are on auto driving at night. I then have to turn them on manual when driving at night. This problem has been seen by a mechanic twice in the last two months.

I was driving home from the convenience store in my town when the headlights just stopped working. The only lights I had were the parking lights. Car were flashing me to tell me to turn my lights on but they would not come on. I have found out by researching on line that there is a defect with the totally integrated power module. I contacted Jeep customer care and they would not offer any financial assistance. This is a very dangerous safety problem that Chrysler Jeep should recall. The total cost to repair this is $900. 00.

The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Liberty. While driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle restarted after the contact disconnected and reconnected the battery cable. On one other occasion, while driving approximately 55 mph, the front headlights independently powered off without warning. The headlights illuminated again when the vehicle was turned off and restarted. On another occasion, while the vehicle was parked, the contact depressed the unlock button on the fobik and the horn consistently sounded and the headlights flashed. The contact detached and reattached the battery cable and the lights powered off and the horn no longer sounded. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the failure was unable to be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

I was driving at night and the headlights just stopped working. I was extremely concerned about my safety as I had no headlights and cars approaching me were flashing me to turn of my headlights. I couldnt pass the MA. Saftey inspection because of this. I brought the car to my mechanic and he has to replace the totally integrated control module at a cost of $900. 00. This is absolutly a safety issue and should be recalled!.

When using my remote to unlock my 2008 Jeep Liberty, the horn starts honking, the windshield wipers (front and back) turn on, the windshield washers (front and back) shoot fluid, the door locks won't open and the headlights turn on and off. This has happened four times in the last two months. The headlights have also started turning off while driving and I'm unable to turn them back on.

My headlights turned off for about 5-7 seconds before coming back on again. This happened while I was doing 55mph in a very dark area and made it very difficult to see the road as there were no other cars around. This was quite scary as I had my 6 month old daughter in the car with me. The following morning my headlights turned on and off again 2 times quickly in a row while I was on the freeway traveling at 70 mph. Again my daughter was with me on my way to daycare. This is very dangerous as I cannot see the road and it also appears as if I am flashing my lights at other drivers. Hopefully when I take my vehicle to the dealership this week it can be resolved but judging on the complaints here if I can't duplicate the problem they can't fix it. This is a completely random event that has happened a few times now and is becoming more frequent. It sounds like I'm not the only one having this problem.

I received two recall notices from Jeep in the fall of 2014 for the defective design for the gas tank location on my Jeep Liberty. I spoke to the local dealer last fall after getting the second notice. I knew it was a waste of time to contact them after only the first mailed notification, since I knew there wouldn't be parts available. I spoke to the dealer on a visit in the fall after the second mailed notification and the local dealer told me the parts would not be available for quite some time. I left them my name and asked them to contact me if the parts were availabel. In January of 2015, I contacted the local dealer again and they chuckled and told me the parts were not available but they could put me on the growing list they kept at the dealership. So I had not even made it onto the local dealer waiting list yet! to make matters worse, I got a call a week later from a Chrysler warranty customer center. I called back after the second call and told them that the dealer had laughed at me just two weeks before when I had asked if the parts were available. In addition to the defective gas tank location, my Jeep also has the air bags that can inadvertently inflate (supposedly with a few seconds of warning if you happen to be looking at the dashboard and notice a warning light). I got that recall fixed (a very low cost jumper) last fall. I understand that now my Jeep may also have a defective trw airbag inflator. I suspect this was the issue all along but Chrysler took the cheapest possible route (a jumper). Lastly, I have submitted a formal complaint on the NHTSA web site concerning my headlights going off by themselves while driving at night. They have done this multiple times and normally come back on within 5 seconds. There are many other complaints for this issue on the NHTSA site and yet there has been no recall for this without warning issue.

Headlights flicker when accelerating on dash lights as well, when driving at night when both dash and headlights are used. Also, when the lights are on the heat is also running, it acts like there is a short in the system.

When returning home from work one evening, my headlights flickered on and off and then completely shut off. I heard a clicking sound down in the dashboard which may have been a relay. After pulling over to the side of the road, I opened my driver's side door and noticed my dome light was out as well. My dashboard lights stayed on while my headlights and dome light was off. This same incident has happened more than 8-10 times. The flickering of headlights annoys drivers ahead of me and I'm concerned they will become raged, not to mention the danger of the headlights going off while driving. I had a Jeep dealership investigate and perform a diagnostic test and nothing surfaced. I had them replace the low beam relay since I had read several reports of this same problem on the web and some guessed it may be the relay. Well, I can tell you that the problem is not resolved after replacing the low beam relay as the headlights are still going off. Nhtsa, please investigate this problem before someone is seriously hurt.

After picking up my car from the dealer after it was there for the recall work of putting a hitch on the rear of the car for a safety recall, while driving home in the dark my car lights started to flash then shut off completely, I pulled over on the side of the highway turned off the car then restarted it and once again after 10 minutes of driving the lights shut off so I had to drive home with no headlights at all. I called the dealer the next day and was given the run around that I would have to pay for it to be checked. I only drive the car during the day now because I am afraid of it occurring again.

On two or three occasions, while driving at night with the headlights on, without warning my headlights and park lights have shut off by themselves. The lights will usually be off for approximately 5 - 10 seconds and then come back on by themselves. The events seem to happen randomly and without warning.

I have a Jeep Liberty (2004, 2wd, v6) and have a problem with the headlights turning off for a second and then back on for no apparent reason. When this happens the relay can be heard opening and closing. Unfortunately I have not been able to find an accurate electrical schematic (the one in the hayes book does not seem to agree with the wiring in the car). The vehicles headlights will flash on and off while driving. It will be intermittent and last for 1-5 seconds. They then have always come back on and stayed on but we never know when it will happen or if the lights will come back on. This has happened several times and there is always a clicking sound in the dash. This is a very dangerous situation. After searching this issue on the internet it seems to be an on going problem covering several years of Jeep Liberty. I can not believe that Chrysler has not been made to fix this safety issue. What will it take to make this happen? I guess no one was killed or maybe not enough people were killed yet.

Headlights began turning themselves off and on while car was driving at night along highway. Audible clicking heard each time the lights would cycle off or on.

When driving with the headlights on, lights begin flashing off and on, along with a clicking noise such as a relay. After a minute or so they finally stay on solid. This is very scary and dangerous on a dark road, and confusing to oncoming traffic! we took the car to a Jeep dealer who found no defect. I called Chrysler and they have no information of this happening. However there are numerous entries on the internet describing this same issue, including this web site. Chrysler clearly does not want to own up to this extreme safety issue!.

All lights (interior and exterior) go off without warning. They come back on, but it's pretty scary when you're driving at night in traffic at 65 mph. The issue is becoming more frequent - isn't temperature related (happens in winter and summer), can happen soon after starting vehicle or after 60 minutes of driving, is not related to rough road surface or crossing a railroad crossing. Has been to Jeep dealer twice - both times dealer stated they couldn't repeat the issue and sent the car back without fixing it. If you google - 2002 Jeep Liberty headlight problems this issue comes up frequently. You'd be amazed. This vehicle is driven daily by my daughter. It has never been involved in any kind of an accident. Originally, I just wanted it fixed - it scares my daughter to drive it. Now it's scaring me. Should this vehicle be recalled? it's been recalled for a rear trailer hitch and has never had a trailer hitch. Now, I want the car made safe. Headlights are going on and off randomly.

On 3 separate occasions the headlights have flickered on and off and have flickered from brights to normal.

Tl-the contact owns a 2002 Jeep Liberty. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 15v046000 (air bags) however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure related to the air bags. In addition, the contact stated that the headlights are burnt out and the windows will not roll up. Ad.

I was leaving from work going about 45 mph, I smelled electrical components burning,before I could pull the Jeep over to the side of the road it shut off unexpectedly leaving me with no power steering and no power brakes,I nearly lost controll of the Jeep,by the time I got to the side of the road the smoke had filled the cabin,the smoke was coming from front drivers side dash. Now I have no headlights,wipers,door locks, radio,alarm,int lights,speedometer,engine light is now on. Mechanic investigated and found that the bcm has a large burn hole in it the size of a silver dollar,I was very glad that my daughter was not in the Jeep with me that day,,.

While driving at night. Headlights go off and on. Almost every night. No one knows why it's doing this. Sometimes for 3 to 5 seconds. We need a recall on this, to find out why this is happening. Jeep dealers don't have answers for us, but they can charge us $ 75 for nothing. Some day someone is going to get hurt when lights don't come back on. Don't say we didn't warn you. While driving, the headlights click off then on, off then on. The act is sporadic and comes on with no warning. This is dangerous because the driver ahead of you thinks you are angry at them. I have taken my vehicle to my mechanic. He can not replicate the problem. Nor does his computer equipment indicate any malfunction. I know I am not alone with this problem. No one has the solution.

I began having problems with the electrical system in August. Headlights flicker on and off at will, as well as interior lights. Passenger side headlamp won't come on at all now and interior lights continue to flicker. While pulling into my driveway, passenger side front tire completely separated from the vehicle, leaving me speechless. We have been the only owners of this vehicle and weren't notified of any recalls. Hoping we can get this repaired soon. . . . . .

Headlights begin to flicker off and on then they go out for several seconds while driving in the dark needless to say. Then come back, then continue to flicker off and on numerous times before staying on for a period of time. This can cause a serious accident and is not safe for no one. A recall should be made for Jeep Liberty. After looking up the problem on headlights flickering I noticed that there are many complaints about this issue. This is dangerous. . . You hear a clicking sound, then your headlights start flashing randomly high to low< low to high. This goes on for about 30 seconds. It is dangerous. . . . I have taken this Jeep to several places and no one can find the problem> Jeep however wants to charge me 90 to tell me they cant find the problem. I see on the internet where this has been going on for a while> you guys need to recall these Jeeps before someone gets killed>.
