1 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2021

When my car first started having problems it shut off when at a drive through. Then it started happening on the highway when I slow down to make a turn or stop at a traffic light with no warning light just shut off. Then it began shutting off just during normal short driving. I would be going 40-60 on the freeway and the steering wheel would lock up & my car would start shutting off. I was still able to engage the brake, safely move my car to the shoulder, put it on park, then restart it, then proceeded on my mission. This past week it started dying when I was in bumper to bumper traffic but this time only the tire yellow warning light came on & the steering wheel locked up & I tried to step on the brake pedal but the Jeep continued to roll until it decided to stop on its own. Fortunately, I was able to move it to the shoulder of the freeway while the Jeep was still moving. Once my Jeep was safely on the shoulder I put it on park then turned the ignition off and then turned it back on & would keep going like normal. On Monday, April 5, 2021, I was parked at work & when I tried to leave for home I turned my Jeep on and it stalled immediately, so I turn the ignition off & back on but it started to shake and very choppy but it never actually started so I had it towed home because I strongly felt my personal "life safety" compromised and felt very insecure driving it on the freeway. These incidents happened several times throughout the last 1&1/2 years.

3 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2020

In July 2020, I was driving, and my engine light came on. Went to Jeep, in reno, nv, which diagnosed it as a camshaft sensor error; it would need to be repaired but not critical. Tech reset sensor, and said if it comes on again, we should set a date for repair. On sept 3, 6:40pm, driving on the highway, coming out of an interchange, my car shut down! everything. Luckily, close enough, I coasted off to the right and took the first exit, braked hard, and came to stop. Couldn't restart. Ordered a tow. Ten min later, tried again, the car started, and drove it 3 miles home @ 25 mph. Hit 30mph, it kinda 'chunked', and I went back to 24-25mph. Sept 4, I took to lithia Jeep, again. Left it with them. They called me later, and said it was the crankshaft sensor, and would need to be replaced. Total cost: $700. They kept it over the labor day weekend, and will fix & return, sept 8, 2020. I googled the issue; discovered a recall for Jeep Patriot's manufactured may-July 2016. Today, sept 7, contacted the Chrysler recall dept, regarding the s89 recall, learned my vehicle was manufactured Jan 15, 2016, and not included in the recall s89. My vehicle, same make/model, with the exact same issues as in the recall. The agent said I have to get the dealer to acknowledge the issue is the same as the recall; then request a review by the Jeep dealer's regional supervisor, who, if approves, allows me to submit paperwork, to request Chrysler pay all bills related to issue, back to the July 2020 camshaft sensor issue, up to and including the repair of both the camshaft sensor, and the crankshaft sensor. This seems like a lot of footwork for me, let alone all the paperwork to submit for, hopefully, payment after the fact, for work related to a recall. Can you step in and help? can you add more vehicles manufacture dates to the recall, to include mine?.

4 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 06/26/2020

At the first instance of the engine stalling, the vehicle was in motion, but slowing to stop at a red light. The next instance of the vehicle stalling, it was stopped. The engine shut down, but tried to restart on its own. After resetting the ignition key, and waiting about 3 minutes, the vehicle started. . . And remained in a running state until we arrived at home. The next time the vehicle was used, it was started via the key fob. It started, and within 15 seconds, the car shut down. Later that day, we took it to a valvoline oil change facility, where they checked for engine codes via the obd port. And error of "crankshaft position sensor" was noted. Later that day, while pulling in to a parking lot, the vehicle stalled and attempted a restart on its own. After several minutes, the vehicle was restarted. While driving on the highway (at around 60 mph), the engine stalled and attempted a restart 4 times (on its own). It restarted, and stayed that way for the remainder of the trip home. In researching this problem, there is a recall (s89) on this type of vehicle, but the date of manufacture is out of range with our vehicle, or does not apply to the all wheel drive version (which we have).

10 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2019

Acceleration has been stalling a month after purchasing the vehicle. Oil change has been up to date as well as the diagnostics but unfortunately we still haven?t found the cause. We didn?t think too much of it until a friend of ours transmission just shut down on hers and she had the same issue with her 2014 Jeep Patriot. The stalling comes and goes but often stalls when accelerating.

11 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2019

While driving the car it shuts off. Waited a few minutes and came back on. Drove 2 times (one time on a highway, next on a country road) less than 20 minutes when it turns off. Took it in for repair and they are replacing a throttle body sensor that is not working after 46,000 plus miles.

12 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 09/17/2018

Car shuts off and loses power at various speeds 1-65 miles per hour. When it loses power the power steering goes out and you better pull over fast or you wont be able to move the vehicle until you can get it to start back up. Sometimes it takes a while to start back up. This has been happening to me for 5 months now. I've taken to the dealership 2 times and they keep telling me nothing is wrong. . . I never got notified of any recalls and they didnt even investigate to see if there was a recall on my Jeep Patriot the two times I've had it in. I am now having it towed to the dealership because it will not drive more than a few feet with constant shut down. It is dangerous. This happens at all speeds, up hill, down hill, flat, etc.
