Other Fuel System Pump Problems of Jeep Patriot

Jeep Patriot owners have reported 16 problems related to other fuel system pump (under the other fuel system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2008 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 12/04/2019

The valve inside the fuel tank broke and the Jeep can no longer be filled with gas without the gas pump believing it is already full and turning off. This results in many, many attempts to put fuel into the vehicle and gas leaking out of the fuel pump down the side of the Jeep and all over the ground. My mechanic was trying to find the issue and in his research found it to be a known problem but a non serviceable piece, meaning the entire fuel tank must be replaced. This is something that should not have failed and created an environmental hazard and a potential fire hazard as well.

2 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2012 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 01/05/2019

When I was at the gas station, fuel pump kept shutting off. I took to the dealership. The problem is the rollover vent valve on top of the fuel tank does not open to release air. They told me I had to replace the whole tank and their estimation is more than $1800 before the tax. I see the same problem people filed here. The repair should be on the manufacturer side instead of customers.

3 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2013 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 12/14/2018

Raw gasoline fumes seems to be entering through air vents while vehicle is in operation, and fan is in use. I was leaving a convenience store when patrons in the parking lot waved me down to tell me they smelled fuel from my vehicle. I quickly exited from the lot to get the vehicle away from the store and fuel pumps. I didn't buy fuel at that visit. The local police department around the corner has an open lot, so I had an officer come out and a fireman relative stop in to make sure the vehicle wasn't going to combust. Left the Patriot sit and had an independent mechanic check it out the following day. He did not find anything upon letting the vehicle run and he tightened up the vent tube or fuel filler neck. This was several months ago. Tonight, with the tank at approximately 1/2 full, I made the same 3 mile trip, using defrost and fan, smelled raw fuel and by the time I got into the store my throat and lips were burning, lightheaded and things looked a little hazy. Drove home with the windows down and will apparently have to have this issue checked out again. Noticed the Jeep didn't seem to have great acceleration on the drive in. Mileage is now mid 40k range. Fuel smell coming out is wicked and toxic. I bought this vehicle brand new at the end of 2012. Light driving with a daily 6mile commute for work. This is extremely hazardous on several levels. I can't imagine having children and pets in the vehicle when this happens. Could this be a continuation of the 2012 fuel tank production problem of the same make and model?.

4 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2015 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 07/25/2017

I own a 2015 Jeep and while driving down a neighborhood street turning onto a major highway my vehicle started to slow. When I pressed the accelerator my vehicle would not accelerate and continue to slow. My vehicle them came to a complete stop in the middle of the highway. I attempted to turn the vehicle on again and the vehicle would not start. I was then forced to push the vehicle off the side of the road to safety since there were other vehicle driving behind me. After having the vehicle towed to an auto repair shop I was told the fuel pump had to be replaced. The fuel pump did not give any advanced warning, no indicator lights came on the vehicle to inform me. I was put in an unsafe position when my vehicle broke down. I have less than 40k miles on my Jeep there is no way a fuel pump would go out on such a new vehicle with low miles. It cost me $556. 02 to replace the fuel pump. However once the pump was replaced the fuel gauge would not read correctly. The actual gauge was functioning but the fuel pump would not send correct readings and my gauge would not mark more than 3/4 tank even when the tank was fuel. In the end I had to replace the fuel pump three times before the gauge would mark from empty to full correctly. All these events cause me to believe the fuel pump is faulty and should be recalled and corrected.

10 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2012 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 08/19/2014

On 8/19/14 my 2012 Jeep Patriot had 30,666 miles. I made a right turn onto the highway out of a shopping center parking lot and as soon as I had made the turn my car stalled out. I coasted a bit and pulled into the parking lots next entrance. I parked my Jeep and turned my key as if I was shutting my car off and then tried to turn it back on. To my surprise is turned on and I drove around the parking lot a little without another issue. . I immediately called a Jeep dealer but they told me unless the issue happened again they couldn't do anything about it. I was lucky no one rear ended me. It's a very busy highway. I bought a Jeep because I thought it'd be a safe vehicle to drive myself, my husband and my 1 year old baby around in. After this happened on the highway I have been extra cautious because I'm afraid it will stall again and we may not be as lucky the next time. I hope they will recall all Chrysler vehicles made with this faulty fuel pump. We all deserve a safe vehicle.

11 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2011 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 06/04/2014

While traveling approximately 3 hrs at highway speed, with the cruise control on and in 108 degree weather, the motor shut down. If felt as if the vehicle ran out of fuel. No lights, no warnings, and over 1/4 tank of fuel. After stopping on the shoulder the motor would turn over, but not start, made me think that the fuel pump was bad. 5 minutes later it started, but when the throttle was pressed it died again. Another 15 minutes of sitting the vehicle started, but felt "sluggish". I started moving slowly down the shoulder, and the vehicle began to respond normally, and finished the last hour of the drive without incident.

12 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2008 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 10/23/2013

Engine light came on,fuel tank would not allow a steady flow of gasoline from gasoline pump to gas tank, in other words the gas nozzle kept shutting off as thought the tank were full. The car gasoline tank would allow 2/10 of a gallon to go in then shut off. We had to / have to (same problem now occurring) repeatedly do the latter to fill our tank. The first time we paid out $400 with the repair shop replacing one of the two fuel pumps. We understand there is a fuel hose in the tank of this year Patriot that had a recall and we were never told or notified.

13 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2012 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 02/22/2013

Driving south on i57 in illinois and vehicle stalled. This happened previously at6000 miles in March while I was on i55, and the dealer told me that the secondary fuel pump was bad. It was replaced and now I am at 26,000 miles and it has stalled again. Each incident the vehicle has stalled with approximately 3/8 of a tank of gas. It causes me to have to maneuver through traffic to pull to the side while the vehicle is rapidly slowing and vehicles behind me don't know how to react. Luckily, neither incident has resulted in an accident but clearly the fuel pump needs to be redesigned, recalled and replaced.

14 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2012 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 09/20/2012

Tl-the contact owns a 2012 Jeep Patriot. The contact stated that he was driving approximately 68 mph with the cruise control engaged. The contact was approaching an off ramp, so he tapped the brakes to disengage the cruise control. Immediately after touching the brakes the vehicle stalled. The contact tried restarting the vehicle but it would not. The vehicle was later towed to the dealer. After diagnosis they advised him that the fuel pumps and the lines between the fuel tanks needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired for 2 fuel pumps and the lines in between. The failure mileage was approximately 3,000. The current mileage was approximately 3,500. The VIN was unavailable. Tb.

15 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2012 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 09/20/2012

I was going down the freeway at 68 with cruise control on and when I tapped the brakes to kick the cruise off it slowly died and wouldn't restart,so had it towed and when it came off the truck it restarted(about an hour and a half later). My dealer contacted Chrysler and they said to change the fuel pumps(2) and fuel lines between tanks, this has been done but I haven't driven it much since. I heard on the radio that this or similar things had been accuring with this model so I wanted to put my 2 cents in and maybe here if there was a different fix for this problem>.

16 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 07/13/2010

For the past several years, my Jeep Patriot cuts off every time I get gas. I've taken it to the dealership several times. They have replaced my fuel pump and auxiliary (I believe thats what its called) and I still have the same problem. Ive also had my throttle bottled cleaned twice. Occasionally, the engine light comes on with code p0442 but goes off after a day or two. It's becoming super frustrated and clearly dangerous to continue to drive this car with no solution.
