Every time I fill up the car, once a week, I am barely out of the gas station and bam! car shuts off. Or as I am driving it stalls, sometimes it goes and sometimes it just shuts off. I've cars almost rear end me because it so sudden. Sometimes I just turn on the car after gas just to wait for it to shut down so I don't kill myself in traffic. Took the car to a mechanic paid 800 bucks and it still happens. They replaced the full injector and some other stuff that I don't know. They pulled the gas tank out to do whatever it was. The entire car smelled like gas for weeks. Why can't something be done. Looks like I am not the only one. Every ones complaints matches mine. This has been going on for a year.

Every time I refill my tank with fuel, the first several minutes of driving the engine will hesitate and almost stall (or will stall if driving at slow speeds). While stopped in idle, engine will completely stall. Once some fuel is burned, the engine will no longer stall. This issue has been ongoing for years.

When trying to fill the tank with gas the pump keeps shutting off every 5-10 seconds and sometimes gas comes back oout the fill tube. My mechanic says we have a bad rollover valve and the whole gas tank needs to be replaced to fix it.

Takes about 15 minutes or more to put gas in my gas tank. On the internet search it's a common problem that a lot of Jeep Patriot's have. From what I have read the cause is a roll over valve which is plastic and located in the tank itself. That the only way to solve the problem is to get a new tank put in. I feel that they should have had a recall on this and should have fixed the problem. On the internet vehicles with the same problem ranging from 2007-2015. This happens every time I try to put gas in my car.

When pumping gas at any gas station, my fuel tank shuts off the flow of gas approximately every 5 seconds. There seems to be a defect with the gas tank.

When I attempt to refill gas in my Jeep, the tank prevents the gas from flowing into the vehicle. I can refill the tank, but because of the issue, it takes a very long time to refill the gas with the pump repeatedly shutting off.

When the gas tank is full the service lights come on engine stalls out about half a mile down the road. The steering wheel locks up when the engine goes out so you cant even coast over to the side of the road.

Impossible to fill gas tank because tank input tube is blocked. Can fill on a drop by drop basis, but takes almost half an hour.

The problem I am having is with the rollover valve which is located in the gas tank. When I put fuel in, it acts like it is full, even though the gas gauge is telling me that I have � tank of gas. It will only take the gas if I put in � gallon at a time. Then when I start to drive it, it wants to stall, and I have to give it the gas and then it runs. I have done research online and this is a problem in all Jeeps. If I am in an accident the rollover valve could remain open instead of closing. The valve is sticking and unreliable. This valve does it every time you put gas in it.

Filled up gas tank and car stalled at stop light shortly after. Pulled into driveway after a 5-minute drive and steering wheel locked and car had stalled.

Two months ago my Jeep started bucking violently when driving after it sat for a month being driven maybe once a week. I refilled the tank with premium and it still didn't help. Took it to the shop and they couldn't find a problem. It stopped doing that for for about two weeks but now it stared doing it again. It does it when I'm am accelerating from a slow down and also once I get up to 60 on the highway.

Every time I fill up gas tank car wont start immediately and when I finally get it to start it turns off again when I drive off or at first stop I make. Problem seems to only occur when gas tank is completely full.

2012 Jeep Patriot 4 x 4 takes 20 minutes to fill gas tank due to faulty valve. Had the dealership run diagnostic tests today and they tell me a new gas tank is the only fix due to a problem with a valve inside the tank. . . . They called it a "flapper" and an "inlet check valve". Talked to Jeep and to two dealerships and no one wants to take any responsibility for this issue. I also found the following technical service bulletin which extends the gas system warranty on a number of makes/models for this very same issue, but the Jeep Patriot is not included - TSB 14-001-09 rev. A this is extremely frustrating and dangerous.

When I gas up below a quarter of a tank my Jeep stalls out and steering locks up completely in the span of a second so I have no time to move over. If I gas up at around a quarter or above it lurches really bad several times for next few minutes then runs fine until gassing up again then repeat. I was almost in an accident the first time this happened now I have to drive fifteen minutes away to gas up and drive the back roads to let it run it's course so if I stall I won't get killed. It it supposedly the valve on top of the gas tank resulting in the whole thing needing to be replaced. This has almost gotten me killed as well as many others who I've seen discussing the issue. Please look into this and get this recalled!.

Stuck rollover valve. 86,000 miles. Rollover valve is inside gas tank, casuing replacement of entire tank. Many others online note same problem for the Patriot. Jeep recalled other models for the same problem but not the Patriot.

The gas tank can not be filled at the gas pump without reducing the flow to the minimum level. As a result it take 20 minutes to put 10 gallons in the gas tank. This is dangerous late at night or in bad weather. This issue started in October and is getting worse.

12/12/19 tried to get on I-295 all lights on dash came on including malfunction indicator, esp bas, and others all came on when no lights were on before. Lost power to Jeep on 295 could not go any fast then 25 mph and then stalled; almost rear ended. Could restart Jeep, all dash lights still on, no power past 25 mph and made it off an off ramp where stalled again. Towed Jeep to mechanic where they replaced pcm, intake manifold, and O2 censor. Called Jeep because there is a recall to pcm and was told my VIN not included. 12/26/2019 on I-295 going 70mph and Jeep lost all power with no warning lights this time and had no acceleration. Was in the far left lane and had near miss of being rear ended by tractor trailer. Veered Jeep to breakdown lane and towed to mechanic. Second mechanic repaired ground at g104 on right side of engine bay said is reason for several computerised controls. 1/7/2020 put full tank of gas in vehicle and pulled into intersection and Jeep bucked and stalled out. Called mechanic said possible fuel sensor problem. Jeep Patriots have had issues with pcm and fuel problems but am told my 2009 Jeep not a part of this recall. Jeep is still not running properly and will not drive on highway. Very dangerous and very expansive.

Every time I fill up the gas tank and then drive, the Jeep stalls, I lose steering, it is not safe. It has happened several times.

Every time the fuel tank is filled, the engine stalls a couple minutes after I pull out of the gas station. This has happened getting on highways and is a potentially deadly situation that apparently is well known with this vehicle. For whatever reason this has not been recalled yet and won't until somebody is killed. Please take action to get this recalled to repair the situation. This has happened on at least a dozen occasions so far.

Daughter called in panic, Jeep was unable to accept fuel while pumping. I advised her to try another pump, still same problem. Took about 15 minutes to get 5 gallons of fuel in Jeep for her to make it home. Took Jeep to dealership and stated that a shut off valve in tank had malfunctioned and gas tank needed to be replaced ($1500 parts and labor) and dealership said this was a common problem. . . Wait what, a common problem, why is there not a recall on something like this? less than 50k miles and needs a new tank. . . Dealership said not a safety issue??? being stuck on i95 at night not being able to get gas is a big safety issue.

While refueling the vehicle, the fuel sensor indicated that the fuel level was full; however, when the fuel nozzle was pulled back, the vehicle was able to receive additional fuel. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to dick's country Chrysler Jeep Dodge (767 sw baseline st, hillsboro, or 97123), but the cause of the failure was not determined. The contact was informed that the fuel tank could be replaced. The vehicle was currently at the dealer for repairs. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. The failure mileage was approximately 47,000.

Tl-the contact owns 2012 Jeep Patriot. The contact stated that when fueling the vehicle it does not fuel completely. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer where it was diagnosed and replaced a valve int he tank however the failure recurring. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 177,000. Aw.

When I try to fill the gas tank the fuel will gush back out towards me. The only way that I can get gas into the tank is to gently let it trickle in which takes for ever. I took it to a mechanic and he said this is a very common problem that a vent inside the gas tank is faulty and cannot be repaired. The fix is a new gas tank and about $800. 00 after doing research I found that this is a very common problem with Jeeps. Seems to me that having gasoline flush back on you is a very dangerous situation. If you don't know this is going to happen the gasoline gushes out faster than the pump nozzle has a chance to shut it off. If this is so common why hasn't it been addressed? I don't know what kind of proof that I can send you other than a video which I'm willing to do but how do I send it? engine is off not running sitting at a gas pump.

Gas tank cannot be filled up all the way as the car stalls and turns off in less then a mile. The car has no acceleration more then 20mhp and takes a long time in gaining speed when trying to take off after a stop and when changing lanes. Car lacks power when driving on highways, creating traffic and panic in the driver. Car is a hazard on the road and mechanics are aware but no one seems to find the issue and correct.

When I fill the gas tank all the way, the Jeep stalls shortly afterward. That turns off the power steering. It's very dangerous. Potentially deadly if it happens while cornering at higher speeds. Forums online are saying that it's a manufacturer flaw in the rollover valve inside the gas tank, and that the only way to fix it, is to replace the tank. That is a very expensive repair. The forums indicate that it is becoming a very common problem. I feel that Jeep should issue a recall on this dangerous factory flaw and pay for the repairs.

The roll-over check valve in the gas tank becomes stuck open and the gas tank will not fill. If the car rolls over, all the gas would spill out. The only fix according to Jeep is for me to pay $1600 for a new gas tank for a problem that happens with normal use of the car.

"takata recall" I have a 2014 Jeep Patriot it has 20,456 miles. The last six month I have had repairs on fuel tank, first one last about 3 month the last one don in July 2019 lasted 2 days. I can't fill my tank. It will put a little gas in and then cut off. These repairs have cost me 125. Oo ea time . This would be ok if it worked.

When I fill the gas tank all the way the car will go about 25 feet and start to stall and shutoff locking the steering wheel and I have no control of the car. If I dont fill it up all the way this is not a problem. It appears there are many people having the same issue as seen here. . Read more...

It was confirmed by the dealership my 2012 Jeep Patriot been diagnosed with an internal fuel tank failure. My manufacturer date was Nov. 2011 and a recall was issued in Dec. 2011 to replace the fuel tank (of course my vehicle didn't qualify). I do not have $1600 to replace something that Chrysler should take responsibility for and fix. I have a feeling that they knew that these gas tanks were faulty before Dec. 2011, and in order to not have to replace them, they took the easy and barely any money out of their pocket route and did a recall for the transfer hose hoping that would correct the issue which if that's what they thought, sorry it didn't work. I do not feel safe driving the vehicle, let alone trying to put gas in it with the gas pump shutting off every few cents. The only way I can put gas in is by a very slow trickle which takes about 10 - 15 minutes. Within the last few weeks, it's getting even more difficult as I hear the gas backing up in the filler neck. The dealership was not any help other than telling me how much it was going to cost without any explanation as to why it happened. We need help in getting Chrysler to address this issue before someone gets killed. Someone please hear us and help us and do something now!!!.

Every time I feel my gas tank up and drive away, my vehicle bucks and then steering freezes up and my Jeep stalls. This is very scary and has gotten worse. Especially getting gas off the freeway and going on the freeway! this has been happening for about a year and has gotten worse!!!.

After refueling the car to having a full tank of gas, a short distance later - usually less than one mile - the car suffers a severe hesitation and once stalled completely. The vehicle is always in motion and on a city street usually driving straight. It has happened many times, today being the most recent.

Every time that I fill the fuel tank, my Jeep stalls one to three times within the first couple miles. This can happen at a stop light, driving out of a parking lot, or while making a low speed turn. I haven't been involved in an accident due to this issue yet, but there have been close calls to date. I took my vehicle to a mechanic to get the issue diagnosed and I was informed that it is due to a faulty roll over valve located on top of the fuel tank. The only way to correct the issue is to replace the fuel tank which is very costly.

I've made a complaint already but my 2010 Jeep Patriot again stalled out after getting a full tank of gas and driving off, luckily still at the gas station and when I was getting coffee for my 3 and a half hour drive to school, it stalled out 3 more times when I am in drive. I was scared it was going to stall out on me while I'm driving for the whole drive. It's very dangerous because the steering wheel is locked and what if it happened when I am on the road and there is a car behind me? I could get rear ended. Many people are having the same issue with the Patriot.
