Mechanic inspected as part of potentially buying the vehicle. I had expressed concern over how it was driving. Ball joint is bad. I researched online and saw a lot of issues with this and was hoping that a safety recall was in place for it! (I did find a warranty extension for the subframe, and it is still good -- so it might be worth buying if safety issues are fixed. ).

After filling up my gas tank this morning, my car sputtered and stalled in the middle of an intersection immediately after I left gas station. I was yielding to turn left to enter the northbound lanes of I-69. I have had this issue for quite awhile now and my mechanic hasn't been able to find an issue since it only happens when I fill up the gas tank. I decided this morning to look for other Jeep owners with the same problem and found a forum that dates back to over 3 years ago with people having the same problem. Apparently, their findings have led to the gas tank needing to be replaced in part to a faulty part that sits on/in the gas tank. In the past, I've had to time traffic lights in order to make it through without stalling but obviously that didn't work today. Typically, this is only an issue when I'm driving at slower speeds or in stop/go traffic. Also, the steering wheel locks up and is very hard to turn to get out of the way of traffic. Often times, the Jeep doesn't start right away. You have to rev the engine and then put in drive quickly and take off or it stalls again. In the forum, several people have tried to replace parts for quick fixes without any success. This should obviously be something the car makers should fix without passing the cost along to the owner.

I bought this car with these safety issues, there is sold as is condition, but after having the oil pan and gaskets replaced, we were informed that the car also has other safety issues, for instance, it needs a catiltic converters that failed inspection, and steering equipment unsafe to endure a safe driving conditions. These conditions were fond by a certified mechanic, during the initial service.
While driving 80 mph, the transmission warning indicator illuminated, and the vehicle decelerated and lost power. The contact coasted the vehicle over to the road shoulder, waited awhile, restarted the engine, and was able to drive safely.

Tl the contact owns a 2015 Jeep Patriot. While installing the dorman loaded steering knuckle (part numbers: 698411 and 698410) (na), the parts cracked during installation when being properly applied with a torque wrench. The cause of the failure was not determined. Seller rock auto was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified.
While driving down the road after picking up my 3 children from daycare. I was going approximately 25mph and the front driver side tire folded outward. The sub frame and cross members apparently are defective. Unbeknownst to me there is a warranty 10 year/ unlimited mileage. There was also a class action lawsuit on Jeep Patriots/ compasses between 2001-2007 because of this issue. Instead of fixing the issue this company/ manufacturer has continued to use these defective parts on newer models such as mine. I might add for some odd reason the class action lawsuit doesn't cover my year although its the same defective sub frame and cross member parts. All they have done was offer this warranty, which I was never made aware of or told about by them or the dealer I made my purchase through. After my children and I nearly got seriously injured or killed did I look into this and found out. Due to these defective parts not only were we almost killed but the car suffered severe damage to the front end and the transmission as well as various other parts and components. I still have payments left on this automobile and it is completely inoperable and really hasn't gotten that much use compared to the amount I've paid already, not even counting what I still owe. I called the dealership and corporate office and they seem completely unconcerned and unhelpful in resolving this issue. I will never purchase a Jeep/ fiat/ Chrysler product ever again. These people put me and my family knowingly into a very unsafe vehicle and nearly got us killed. If I had been on the interstate doing 65mph and this had happened I would not be here writing this. All I can do is thank god it decided to fail when it did, not later on the interstate. To sum it up tire came off, lost steering control, ground to a halt in the street sideways, car fluids pouring all over road. Also have pictures of scene.

When I fill the gas tank all the way, the Jeep stalls shortly afterward. That turns off the power steering. It's very dangerous. Potentially deadly if it happens while cornering at higher speeds. Forums online are saying that it's a manufacturer flaw in the rollover valve inside the gas tank, and that the only way to fix it, is to replace the tank. That is a very expensive repair. The forums indicate that it is becoming a very common problem. I feel that Jeep should issue a recall on this dangerous factory flaw and pay for the repairs.
Takata recall I was driving my 2016 Jeep Patriot when it stared making a noise and shutter then lost power and stalled in the middle of the road. The car steering locked up when trying to steer car to side of road. The traction light came on right before it stalled and lost power.

Vehicle stalls while driving unexpectantly, while driving and leaves no recourse or corrections for the driver to be made. Power to all of the vehicle systems stayed on whilst all the controls of the vehicle were removed from the driver. Eventually restarted. But refuses to start after being stationary again. Was driving down a city street when my car just stalled out on a straightaway. Finally restarting and making it home, and now not starting again.
Front and rear subframe of the Jeep has bad corrosin, Jeep only has 80,000 miles on it. It is pass the warranty coverage, why is this not a recall?.

Purchased vehicle less than 6 monthes ago and complained to the dealer that it sounded and felt like wheels were about to fall off. 8 days later I took it to get an oil change and the shop refused. He explained that when they lifted the Jeep and inspected tires the wire treads were exposed in the middle of the tire, at any moment the vehicle could pose serious injury or death to passengers. I took it to the dealership and they changed tire but did not inspect the vehicle. The brakes continually made a screeching sound , for some unknown reason. The steering wheel would often veer left when turned right and the Jeep kept making rubbing and popping sounds last week while travelling less than 20 miles an hour the car made a popping sound , I lost control of steering wheel and it was veering to right , running up on the curb and the vehicle was still in motion . . When the Jeep finally stopped I was unable to move steering wheel nor push it out of the street. It had to be towed away. Mechanic inspected and advised of numerous issues: axle bent, control arm , drive shaft, suspension to mention a few. The Jeep had 107000 miles when this occured and is under warranty. Mechanic is requesting warranty approval to fix the failed components and damages incurred from the failure.
Tl the contact owns a 2015 Jeep Patriot. While driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle stalled and lost steering ability. In addition, the electronic stability control warning indicator illuminated. The contact coasted the vehicle over to the shoulder. After approximately two minutes, the vehicle restarted and operated normally. The contact stated that the failure occurred four other times. The vehicle was driven to hendrix Jeep Chrysler fiat (543 n mcpherson church rd, fayetteville, nc 28303) where it was determined that the throttle body, spark plugs, and air filter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failures recurred twice after the repairs were performed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired after the last failure. The approximate failure mileage was 53,000.
When I fill the gas tank all the way the car will go about 25 feet and start to stall and shutoff locking the steering wheel and I have no control of the car. If I dont fill it up all the way this is not a problem. It appears there are many people having the same issue as seen here. . Read more...

Vehicle shuts off while driving. Engine light turns on for a day or so then turns off. Error code: p0335 crankshaft position sensor a circuit.
After filling up with gas car stumbles and dies at stops for about five minutes minutes afterwards. This procedure goes on for about ten miles all I read says it is a safety valve on top off gas tank. Only way to fix is relace the whole gas tank. This happens when vehicle is in motion or just setting idleling. Rpm starts to decreace and smothers plum out. I purchased this vehicle used it has done this ever since ive owned it.
Rattle noise from front of vehicle. Dealer can not find problem. Google states that steering liquid line loose attachments to car's chasis. I fit fails hose can rupture causing pressure of oil to steering wheel.

After filling up gas the car turns off engine then start it up and turns off while driving. Very dangerous there has to be a recall on this???!!! please I am not safe driving this. I just bought this Jeep a qeek ago. This happened 2x already.
When I fill up the car with gas after leaving and driving for 20-30 seconds and stop at the stop light or sign the car will die and the steering wheel will lock up takes a couple of tries before it will start up and cause the steering wheel locks up I can't even move the car to the side if I have to. This has been going on for the past year.
The vehicle shuts off while driving. The battery is fine however I lose all power. It is as if there is no fuel even though I have a ful tank. The traction light comes on along with the check engine light. I roll to a stop and let the Jeep sit then turn the key and it starts right up. There is no warning or indication when it will ovcur. The check engine light will disappear after driving for a time and so I am told there is no code to be pulled. Im stuck driving a machine that may or may not try to end me. Tons of people have had a similar issue however my VIN does not seem to be included in the recall.
Front control arms and/or bushings have gone bad, before 72k miles. Causes steering instability and excessive tire wear. Dozens of other reports of this same problem for this same make/model are easily found online. This is obviously a manufacturing defect, and it merits a recall.
Back in November of 2018 my Jeep was in an accident. My son was the operator of the vehicle at the time on his way to pick me up from work in tiverton rhode island. According to him, he recalls everything fine and then a moment wherein everything went blank. Upon arrival the vehicle was severely damaged, I asked him what happened, he was in a state of confusion. At that point the police had caught up, and began the investigation, and my son went to the hospital by rescue. Fast forward: we are in question to the vehicle's safety. At the time of the incident the vehicle veered into the oncoming traffic. Based on our investigation and recall of the incident a: the airbags did not deploy and b: the right wheel and axle was completely disengaged although the vehicle had sustained a majority of damages on the left/driver's side! the left/driver's side wheel and axle was still completely intact despite sustaining a vast amount of damages.
On 11/5/18, my fianc was driving on the freeway, about 65 miles an hour, when the car engine completely shut off. This caused the power steering to stop working. She was barely able to coast off of the freeway, struggling to steer it, without hitting other vehicles on the busy freeway. It sat for four hours, and then it started again. It has shut off while driving at least four times in a week, on city streets and stop lights, and wouldn't start numerous times the car only has about 35,000 miles on it. It was taken to the Jeep dealership in woodbridge va. , for a sensor chip replacement on 11/10/18. That evening, after taking it home, it wouldn't start. It will be towed back to the Jeep dealership on 11/12/18. There seems to be numerous complaints about this vehicle shutting off while driving. This is an extreme safety concern, especially on the freeway or with children in the car. I don't understand why this serious problem has not initiated a recall, especially when the mileage on the vehicles people are reporting on are so low, including one with only 11,000 miles. It's obviously a Jeep problem. It should not take a fatality in order to initiate a recall.
After fueling the Jeep it stalls when the next idle or two occurs. For example, after fueling, the Jeep is driven and stalls at the first stop light. Sometimes it occurs when trying to pull away from the gas station. It is very dangerous as the steering wheel locks up and you have to stop the vehicle and restart it in traffic. It only happens when fueling the tank to full. This is a safety issue as it could cause an accident pulling out into traffic from the gas station. It happens every time the tank is filled up.
After filling up at gas station and getting on highway engine shuts off after the Jeep bucked several times. When engine shut off steering wheel locked. Had to put car in neutral urn key to turn on engine. Additionally after that,Jeep continually dies immediately following fill up at gas station. It currently dies approximately 3 times in a row before the engine will stay running. This is a highly dangerous event. If it shuts off and I do not wait at the gas station while I'm driving down the road then the steering wheel locks and I could have an accident and kill myself or someone else. This is a serious situation that Jeep / Chrysler needs to fix. Was there a crash . . . Almost!.
Tl-the contact owns a 2016 Jeep Patriot. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph, while coming to a stop at a red light, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact stated that the steering wheel seized, and the vehicle rolled continued to roll forward. In an attempt to stop the vehicle from crashing the pole ahead, the contact depressed the brake pedal, put vehicle in park and turned the vehicle off. Furthermore, the contact stated that the vehicle delayed in restarting. The vehicle was towed allen samuels Dodge Chrysler Jeep ram - 201 west loop 340, waco, texas 76712 (254) 848-6200. Tl- the contact owns a 2016 Jeep Patriot. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the vehicle jerked and the steering wheel was unbearable to steer. The contact stated that more strength was needed to steer the vehicle. The contact stated that once the vehicle picked up speed the vehicle was operable. Total control power module (tipm) failure. While driving down the road Jeep Patriots lights started flickering, the most of the dash lights came on. When pulling over the vehicle stalled and lost assisted braking and power steering. Once stopped turned the key off and regained composure. After it sat for a few second the Jeep started right back up and was fine. Took the Jeep to a local store to have the starting and charging system checked and was told that everything was operating within normal parameters. Since then we have had multiple repeat occurrences and now the Jeep has to be jump started if you want it to run. The Jeep was diagnosed with a bad tipm total integrated power unit. This is very dangerous situation and thus my vehicle is now parked. This is the first Jeep that I have owned but do not think their will be another beings that Dodge is not wanting to claim responsibility and correct this dangerous situation.
Every time I refuel the vehicle sputters and stalls. No matter what grade of fuel. It will sputter and stall for up to 20 miles after I fill it up. It has even stalled when pulling into traffic and the steering wheel locks when that happens. It's not safe. The Jeep dealership has been replacing stuff hoping to find a fix but no luck so far. It will stall stationary, moving, turning, or braking. I believe it may be something related to the fuel tank rollover valve. At least that's the only reasonable thing I have read or been told. . My ingination where the key goes in when turning off vehicle does not lock- when you get back into car - you put key into ingination- the car starts than dies and you have to start it again it has been doing this for about 3 weeks now - I called dealership and they said they have had another 2016 Jeep Patriot with the same issue.
After filling up the gas tank the vehicle jerks wildly, several times the vehicle has shut off in the middle of the highway and almost caused a wreck, I am terrified I'll end up causing an accident or possibly killing someone. The issue my mechanic said is in the vapor/fuel separator valve that goes to the charcoal box.
Our Jeep started to randomly stall out while driving. We pulled the code and says we need to replace the computer.
My Jeep Patriot stalls when your at traffic light with no waring and sometime as your driving with no waring. Sometimes starts no problem and other time its hard to start. There no engine light or codes. This happen many times and I took to the mechanic couldn't fine what it could be because there no codes to diagnose problem. . . . . . . .

Statrting on 23. May, 2018 my vehicle started randomly dying while driving. This is a complete loss of propulsion, the rpms drop to zero and the car completely stops running. The only way to get the vehicle moving again when it does start is to completely stop, place the vehicle in park and start the vehicle again. The vehicle has no preference or indication of when it is going to do this, so far it has died while pulling into traffic, driving down the freeway at 60 miles an hour, turning into a parking stall in a busy mall parking, while climbing hills and while going down hills. This information was given to fca along with the mileage which is roughly 37800 miles. I have been directed to pay out of my own pocket for diagnostics for this vehicle even though you may search Jeep Patriot forums. Com off of Chrysler website and you can find a list of similar complaints dating back as far as 2010 when Chrysler recalled nearly half a million vehicles for a very similar issue.
The cv axles have gone bad on a car that is brand new after only 2 years I haven't even been driving it 2 years and I feel that it can mess up my steering and and cause me to have a wreck due to the clicking and popping and vibrations being put off by the steering and from tires even going thirty and not during a turn.
