Sway Bar Problems of Jeep Patriot

Jeep Patriot owners have reported 4 problems related to sway bar (under the suspension category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Sway Bar problem of the 2014 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 03/15/2018

This car needs to be investigated! not safe. Multiple problems. I bought this car about a month ago. I was driving on highway with my 5 year old son when the car started shaking and clunking uncontrollably. I pulled over thinking I had a flat tire but did not. Went to mechanic, where they replaced faulty sway bar and also installed an exhaust spring bolt kit that was never installed to begin with. Get the car back to not only have the same issues again along with issues with transmission seeming to slip. I was approaching a red light- again with my son in the car, while breaking- the car jumps rpm and almost ran into car in front of me. Also on cruise control the car wouldn't stop rev'n the engine. It was stuck over 4 rpm. I bought this car for safety but it is far from safe. There was an airbag recall but when I purchased the car it was marked as a seat belt recall. I would of steered clear if I knew about airbag but now I know airbag may not work in crash or will deploy randomly even if it was fixed it's not a legit fix due to electrical?! also I believe the recall on 2. 4 engines should also be looked into for more possible cars affected. My car follows same problems as those recalled and same engine but mines not recalled. This car clunks in and out of driveways. It feels like it will fall apart. The weather striping is poor allowing water to get in causing moldy smell. The brake lights accumulate water. There seem to be signs of electrical problems however mechanic can't see it. Can't charge phone an listen to radio unless you like static! same with aux cord, just stopped working. Aside from looking nice- crysler did a terrible job with this particular Patriot. Poorly built, not worth the money. They rather have people die or get seriously injured before looking into recalling it right? multiple attempts to fix it have been made and car is still in the shop.

2 Sway Bar problem of the 2009 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 01/28/2017

The engine cradle rusted to the point that the front sway bar broke off and the control arm was about to on 1-28-2017. It was at dick scott dealership of Plymouth mi. For a timing chain cover gasket repair on 10-6-2016. When I called the dealership to ask why I was not notified of the safety issue at that time. Butch said we do not inform customers of rust issues. I was refused any assistance with this matter from fca and informed this would be an out of pocket expense. It is unconscionable that a certified mechanic would not deem this vehicle unsafe to drive about 100 days earlier. You will see from the attached photos.

3 Sway Bar problem of the 2011 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 06/16/2012

In 2012 we had a nail through the tire of the 2011 Jeep Patriot that we bought new. When we took the car to tires plus to have the tire replaced. We were told that they couldn't legally replace just one tire. The tread wear was so awful; uneven, different tread variances, they couldn't match one used tire. How would they pick what tire to match it up too. We ended up with 4 new tires, we were also told at the time the uneven tread was doing damage to shocks and struts. A year later we took it in for new break pads and rotation, again, even with these "new" tires we were told tread was so uneven, it would be loud, be careful, excreta. I took the Jeep into a Jeep dealership for a recall 10/2013 "n01 recall" since I had in there I also opted to get transmission service/filter, they too talked to me about my tire wear. 11/2013ish my husband, stationed in hi purchases a new Jeep as well. Now we are stuck with two of these. . . 2/2014 I find out the vehicle he purchase (not his, but others with same yr/make/model are already being recalled. Then my transmission goes out! a Jeep, we have just owned, higher miles all from hwy 94 from my husband compute when he lived in WI to fortmccoy. . . Straight shot. . . 65mh the whole way. In addition they fix sway bar link, arm control and tell me noise that still exists could be wheel bearing, my alignment was so off, they kept it an extra day. So I'm 5k into my vehicle I owed 3 years, the wheel bearing, alignment, sway bar, arm control, shocks, struts all I believe to whatever (I wish I new) was causing the uneven tread wear. There is something wrong! transmission different issue. . . Or is it? I have been told as mentioned above they couldn't "legally" replace just one tire. . . Then how for the last three years can Jeep legally let me drive my 4 kids in a vehicle that has obvious problems. Yes, I've called dealership, home office and bbb.

4 Sway Bar problem of the 2008 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 06/11/2012

Front end suspension parts were worn and about to fail. Replaced left and right lower control arms, sway bar bushings, sway bar links, bushing sway eliminator. Further driving would have caused catastrophic failure of front end. I don't understand why, with the large number of suspension issues the Patriots have not been recalled. All of the failures are occuring at very low mileages and both front and rear suspension elements are failing. All suggesting defective parts used in original manufacture.
