40 problems related to other fuel system tank assembly have been reported for the 2006 Jeep Wrangler. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2006 Jeep Wrangler based on all problems reported for the 2006 Wrangler.
Fuel overflows when the tank is filled. The auto-shutoff doesn't work. It happens every time I fill the tank, no matter what gas station. This is a safety and environmental hazard.
Every time I fill up my fuel tank, 1/2 a second after the pump shuts off, a significant of fuel comes rushing out on to the ground.
During pumping of gasoline into the tank when the tanks fills, gas spews from the tank everytime. This does not happen with either of the other 3 Jeeps that I own. This causes a potential for fire and/or injury due to gasoline splashing on hands, arms and clothes.
When refueling the vehicle, gasoline with shoot out of the fuel fill when the tank is nearly full. From speaking with other Jeep Wrangler unlimited owners (2005 & 2006 models only), this issue is commonplace and unaddressed by Jeep. It is reportedly due to a design flaw in the overflow value in the filler tube. Each time this happens, approximately 1/4 of gasoline will flow out of the tank before the gas pump clicks off. This has exposed me to gasoline on my skin, as well as spilled fuel on the ground. There is risk due to exposure to ethanol and other chemicals, environmental exposure with gasoline on the ground, and fire risk.
My Jeep Wrangler spews gas on every fill up. Ruined pants, shoes. Fear gas is going to ignite from hot exhaust. Does every every time. Someone going to get hurt seriously. Everyone is purchasing gm filler tube with flapper to replace Jeep filler. Done so frequently can't get part. Jeep could fix easily installing 20 dollar filler tube or putting new valve in tank. This is serious.
When you fill up the gas tank the automatic stop doesn't work and the gas spills out all over the place. I bought the Jeep used on July 11, 2014, and I just have never done anything about it. When I bought it, it had 35,000 miles, now I have 70,666 miles. I went online and on the Jeep forum and youtube some people had fixes by buying a gm new fuel filler hose part #15131046 and replacing it and it seems to have worked. According to what I've read the warrenties were extended for 2007 and over but not the 2006's.
2006 Wrangler unlimited (rubicon) overfills with gasoline before the pump stops. About a cup of fuel, does not matter which gas station or how fast the tank is filled. It has been doing this since I purchased it from Jeep dealer in 2013.
While fueling my 2006 Jeep Wrangler, the fuel failed to stop dispensing when the tank was full. This resulted in fuel spewing out from the tank. The fuel got on me as well as the Jeep and the immediate surrounding areas. I have fueled the Jeep at multiple gas stations with the same result. Fuel spilling out from the tank is a serious fire, environmental, and health hazard. After reviewing the NHTSA's website as well as other reputable sources, this seems to be a very common problem/complaint. I'm aware that the 2007 and newer Jeeps have a recall to fix this problem. I failed to realize how such a common and serious problem can be ignored in the 2006 Jeeps.
When sitting still with the engine off and putting gas in my 06 Jeep Wrangler, the gas pump does not kick off quick enough when the tank is full and spills gas down the side of the Jeep and onto the ground creating a very dangerous fire hazard - if you are not standing back, it will splash gas onto your clothes which could be a dangerous personal hazard with the potential of burns to a persons body. Getting in and out of a vehicle produces static electricity and could be enough to start a fire with the Jeep and potential danger to people and property. The Jeep will "burp" gas everytime that you fill it - this has happened on numerous occasions. I do not even fill the tank and let the pump kick off anymore for this reason - it is a dangerous situation if you wait for the pump to kick off.
When fueling the vehicle, when the tank is full and the gasoline nozzle shuts off, approximately one cup of gasoline comes out of the vehicle filler tube and sprays the area around the filler inlet and down the side of the vehicle. This event occurs regardless of the rate of fuel flow. This event occurs when the filler nozzle turns off automatically or when the user manually controls the rate of fuel. This problem has been diagnosed by fca as a defect in a plastic valve located in the vehicle's fuel tank that reacts negatively with gasoline additives, specifically ethanol. Fca does not consider this to be a safety issue. As the vehicle owner, I consider the fact that the vehicle spews gasoline out at me while refueling to be a safety issue and request that the national highway traffic safety administration takes steps to require fca to resolve this issue before someone is burned. Thank you. Updated 9/15/cw.
When fueling the vehicle, the fuel splashes back at near full. The fuel leaks down the plastic fuel door area and onto the painted finish on the body. I have had it splash back onto myself, also. There is supposedly a faulty flapper valve inside the filler hose before the fuel enters that tank. This is a known issue on the 97-06 Wranglers.
When fueling vehicle fuel spits back all over handle, vehicle and ground. Happens every time fuel is pumped. Design flaw that has been ignored by Chrysler forever. Fix requires fuel tank replacement.
When refueling the gasoline tank will overflow spilling upwards of a quart of gasoline on the operator, the vehicle and the ground. Just in case you didn't know, gasoline is highly flamable! this is a very common problem with Jeep Wranglers happening to around 90% of them. Not only is this an environmental issue but a major safety issue as well. Do I expect you to do anything, no. I think its time for a major class action suit against Chrysler. If it puts them out of business, so be it. Wake up tsa! this is not going away on its own.
Anytime I fill the gas tank, fuel explodes out of the filler before the gas hose clicks off. Causing gas to splash on myself, the ground and my vehicle. I believe its a defect in the Jeeps flapper valve. Definitely dangerous and I'm surprised it hasn't been recalled yet as it could cause gas to be splashed in the eyes.
Fuel tank overflows at pump station. The vehicle is not able to tell the gas pump that the tank is full or near full. As a result, gas overflows from the filler neck onto the left rear fender, quarter panel and ground. This is unsafe and a recall should be issued by Chrysler to fix this.
I purchased this Jeep used and the very first time I filled the fuel tank, gas spewed profusely from the tank opening without triggering the nozzle to stop as the tank was approaching full. This causes gasoline to spray all over the vehicle, the pump, the operator, and to puddle on the ground. This same scenario has played out at every gas station I have visited since. The only solution is to try to guess when the tank is close to full and stop the pump prematurely. This is a serious safety and environmental issue that warrants immediate correction from the manufacturer. I contacted the previous owner of the vehicle and she stated that the same fuel overflow problem was present the entire time she owned the vehicle. In speaking with other Jeep owners, this is a very common problem with 2005-2006 Jeep Wrangler models and has even resulted in at least one class action law suit. Please help prevent a future catastrophe and take action on behalf of the consumer ASAP.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that fuel spilled to the ground when the fuel tank was filled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to have a diagnostic performed which located the failure at the fuel tank valve. The dealer advised that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000 and the approximate current mileage was 85,000.
When fueling my 2006 Jeep lj gas sprays out all over the side of the Jeep and anyone standing near the back of the Jeep when the tank is full and the pump trips off.
My 2006 Jeep Wrangler tj spills fuel when the gas tank is filled completely, enough to cover the rear corner and leave a medium sized puddle underneath the vehicle. I use ethanol free gasoline. The vehicle has not been treated poorly, and all of the components are oem. I've researched this problem in your data base and have found over 300 complaints for my model year alone that match. I've been a firefighter for 12 years, so I know when a problem can be serious, and this is one. I've looked online and there are people hacking in parts from other manufacturers to fix this, however I'm not comfortable with this idea.
Regardless of how fuel nozzle is placed, fuel tank over fills approx 1/8th-1/3th gallon of fuel. I fear this could cause a fire in the event fuel splashed onto brake rotor or other hot components, not to mention the environmental and financial impact of this issue directly related to poor design.
The gas tank overflows when it is being filled. This is a serious fire hazard to both the vehicle owner and the general public as a large quantity of gas overflows out of the tank.
Every time I fill up the tank, fuel is ejected from the filler hose and goes all over the side of the Jeep and the ground and usually myself. The auto-shut off works on the pumps but fuel still comes out. I've tried using "half throttle" on the pump but still have the same problem. I've looked through many Jeep forums and it appears there is a fairly large range of Wranglers throughout different model years that have this issue. How has this not been a recall? this can't be safe to have fuel shooting out every time you fill up.
I bought this vehicle used and the first time I went to fill up with gas, I put the nozzle in the filler opening and squeezed the handle all the way. I locked the handle so the gasoline would continue to flow and let go of the nozzle. Around the 16 gallon mark, gasoline shot out of the filler opening and then poured down the side of the Jeep. Enough came out that it created a small puddle on the ground. Gasoline got all over the side of the Jeep and the fender. It also sprayed my hand as I was standing near it. I had to wipe down the fender and side of Jeep because I didn't want to cause any damage to paint or plastic. I found this same problem each and every time I've filled the tank since that time. I've tried different gas stations and nozzles but it doesn't seem to matter. This is completely unacceptable in my opinion and forces me to barely trickle the gas into the tank by only squeezing the handle part way. If I don't do this, I spill gas onto the ground and the side of my Jeep with each fill. After researching this problem, I've found it is very common in my model year and the years surrounding. Why won't Chrysler just fix this?!.
When fueling my Jeep Wrangler and all gas stations, the gas tank overflows when before the fuel cutoff switch on the gas pumps kicks off. Every single time this happens. There is a problem with the filler hose somehow from the factory. Not only does it leak out the top of spout but it sprays everywhere, on clothes and anything nearby within 3 feet. Probably half a cup of gas give or take at every fuel stop in my estimation.
Consistently, while refueling the vehicle, regardless of fill rate, if the nozzle is not stopped manually, gasoline erupts from the filler neck when the tank is full. It is usually enough to leave gas dripping down the vehicle and a small puddle underneath. This happens each and every time it is filled.
Everytime I fill up the gas tank, gas pours out on me.
Every time I refuel my 2006 Jeep the gas sprays out of the filler tube until I remove the gas pump manually. This is a known Jeep issue that requires a replacement gas tank. Our environment and my body/clothes should not get covered in gasoline every time I refuel! please make Chrysler fix all Jeep models with this issue.
When I fueled the vehicle and it became full, the fuel would spray back out of the filler spout as the nozzle shut off automatically. It has continued doing this until present. I asked the dealership where I bought the vehicle at about the problem. They did not know what was causing the problem. They said they could take the tank off and check it out but I would have to pay for it. I decided to just put up with it. I listen to the fuel as I fill it and shut it off manually when it sounds like it is about full. This keeps it from spraying fuel back out the filler neck most of the time.
I own a 2006 Jeep Wrangler unlimited. Every time I fill up the tank the gas overflows onto the ground as the pump shuts off. Apparently this is a common problem associated with Jeep Wranglers and Chrysler has yet to do anything about it.
Gas spurts out of tank when I fill it up and drips all over gas station floor. The gas pump does not stop once its full like other cars and im worried spilled fuel could ignite. Also bad for environment.
When refueling the vehicle, the gas tank overflows and spills a lot of gas. Initially thought it was the pump, however, it happens at every gas station. This seems to be a significant safety hazard and someone could get hurt.
When fueling the Jeep the pump turns off and fuel sprays out of the opening. This happens every time the tank is filled to full. When pump nozzle does not have a rubber boot the spray can cover clothing and skin. Typically the spray involves between a half a cup to a cup of gasoline.
Fuel spills every time I fill the tank. The thing that is supposed to shut off the nozzle does not work.
Fuel tank filler neck spills gasoline forcefully over the side, fender flare and ground, which requires a spill kit to be used to cleanup the puddle created by this spill. This problem has occurred before and was fixed using the same faulty parts which at that time was under warranty. Approximately 4000 miles later the same spilling of gasoline occurred but dealership said the vehicle was outside the warranty period and that it would cost me $1000 to repair. I believe this is an extreme fire hazard as well as a possibly severe injury to myself as the gasoline could fly into my eyes or unto my clothes. I demand a complete new fuel tank configuration and fuel filler neck parts. Two exact problems means faulty equipment parts and should be repaired with updated parts. The first time it was fixed is listed below.
Gas tank has splash back every time you fuel it spilling gas out onto fender and ground.
