38 problems related to other fuel system tank filling/charging have been reported for the 2006 Jeep Wrangler. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2006 Jeep Wrangler based on all problems reported for the 2006 Wrangler.
When filling the Wrangler with fuel, the tank consistently and regularly overfills and spits fuel out of the top of the fuel tank towards the gas pump nozzle, the person filling the Wrangler, the exterior of the Wrangler, and onto the floor next to the Wrangler. There is a TSB for repair of this issue, but my year is not automatically covered by that TSB. Please help.
When filling up the fuel tank, it will either click-off every 2 tenths of a gallon or spill fuel out when attempting to fill at the slowest rate. There are no kinks or etc in the filler pipe or vent pipe.
Jeep Wrangler 2005 and 2006. When filling the gas tank at the gas station, gasoline will overflow momentarily, spilling gasoline on the ground from the gas tank filler tube when the gas pump fuel nozzle shuts off. This has happened on the 2005 and 2006 model year Wranglers I have own(ed). Reviewing comments on the internet this is a common problem with these model years. An additional problem is the internal sticking (due to internal valve plug expansion) check valve that causes spillage also may not permit proper fuel filling.
When filling the fuel tank to full gasoline will shoot out of the filler hole and over the side of the vehicle. The problem is consistent (I can only recall 4 times when it did not occur since I purchased the vehicle in 2015 with 82,000 miles on it. In all cases the vehicle was stationary, engine was off, parked next to the gasoline pump.
2006 tj fuel overflow when filling tank. Fuel spits out of gas tank on to person holding the gas handle pump when filling. Auto is off and stationary. It happens every time.
Gas spills out when filling tank instead of click gas pump off automatically.
Just purchased this Jeep from a dealership and when I fill up the tank with gas it overflows every time spilling gas all over the ground and over the drivers rear quarter panel. It is hard to stop the overflow due to the gas coming out, danger of fuel getting on my clothes which then makes me flammable and smell like fuel. There is always the danger of fuel getting in my eyes as well, I do not feel safe with this flaw. I don't believe that all of the 2005 and 2006 Jeep owners should have to dish out $900 for a new fuel tank that will fail again anyway because the icv valve will just fail again. This is a stationary issue when filling the gas tank. Can't believe that spilling gas on the ground every time is that good for the environment.
The Jeep has what has been termed the Jeep death wobble. The Jeep is all stock, not lifted at all. I have fired the parts cannon at the Jeep. . . All the work has been performed by factory trained technicians using oe parts. I have changed the tires twice in 20,000 miles. The Jeep gets a terrible wobble on the highway at 55mph (speed limit on 465 in indianapolis) and can only be brought under control by stopping the vehicle. Even though I have never been in an accident caused by the excessive wobble, it is definitely not safe to come to a complete stop on the highway. It's not always easy to pull over to the side of the road on a busy interstate highway. The fuel filler neck often overflows when filling the fuel tank also. There was a recall on some Jeeps for this same problem. However, the Jeep dealership said my specific Jeep doesn't qualify for the fixing of the issue. It is definitely not safe to have a fuel filler neck that doesn't stop the fuel nozzle from flowing.
The filler neck doesn't close fast enough when filling the gas tank, thus resulting in gas spewing out onto the Jeep (consequently fading any fender you have installed) and onto your person. As per several car mechanics' consultations, the ethanol in gas is/has eroded the filler neck and it can't close in time. Apparently the issue was addressed in later models of the Jeep Wrangler. It is a nearly $600 fix (including labor). Temporary solution: only put about $25 in the gas tank at a time (which is inconvenient is you are constantly traveling).
Tank overflows when filling up with fuel. Pump auto shut off does not work on this vehicle at any station. Always get fuel overflow.
When filling the fuel tank the fuel filler hose fails to stop the flow of fuel coming back out of the tank. This results in fuel spilling on the ground and down the side of the vehicle.
When filling the fuel tank it always overflows. It does not matter the station or how the pump is in the tank. It always shoots gas out before it kicks off. I think this is a serious fire hazard and I also can spray fuel on the person filling. It sounds like this is an ongoing issue with this model and nothing has been done???.
When filling up tank, fuel comes pouring out when tank is done being filled.
When filling the fuel tank, the fuel overflows and spills gas on the ground. This is a defect in the overflow valve in the gas tank that causes pressure to build when the tank is near completely full during a fill-up. Many other Jeep owners have had the same problem according to the online Jeepforum. Com, Wranglerforum. Com and others. A recall is necessary to prevent possible fires and explosions. Many other Jeep owners have experienced this problem with both tj and jk Wranglers. Some have replaced the fuel overflow valve and solved the problem.
Gas tank overflows at the gas pump, spiting fuel everywhere. Also while filling, the pump constantly shuts off as if the fill neck of the Jeep is overflowing. I have to barely hold the pump in the on position in order to fill and it still overflows. This problem is dangerous and needs to be addressed.
I just bought this Jeep used. I was filling it up at the gas station waiting for the pump to click off. Well, it didn't. The gas spewed out of the filler neck. I thought it might have been a faulty pump. The second time I filled it up, it did it again, at a different station. This time I thought it might be something the previous owner did. It did it again tonight at a third station. I looked up the condition on the internet and low and behold, it is a common issue with my model year. This vehicle is a 2006. We are now in 2014. 8 years after production of this vehicle. Why hasn't the manufacture recalled these vehicles for a fix. Surely this is a safety concern. Gas spewing out of the tank????? come on!.
When filling the fuel tank the pump cuts off to late and creates splash back and pours gasoline on the ground and all over whoever is near by.
While filling the gas tank the pump never shut off causing gas to spill everywhere. Faulty check valve in fuel tank. Should be recalled.
When filling the gas tank, it will overflow, spilling gas on the side of the Jeep Wrangler, the tire and the ground. It seems like the flapper valve in the filler neck isn't preventing spills. It happens everytime I've filled up, so I try not to fill the tank anymore. I believe it's a serious safety and fire hazard. One spill was so big, the gas station employees had to use kitty litter to soak it all up.
When filling up the gas tank, gas will pour out when it's full/overfull and sometimes spray gas everywhere.
When refilling my gas tank the gas pump does not shut off and gas spills out with force causing gas to spill all over the place (myself, Jeep & the ground). This is a very common problem with 2006 Wranglers (tj & lj) & Jeep finally needs to do something about this for these models as well. These were the Wranglers that tested some of the new parts for their jk models that came out in 2007 to present. A recall has been issued for the 2007 & newer models for this same problem. How about fixing where the problem started at originally. Thank you, greg mumaw.
When filling the gas tank there doesn't appear to be any shut-off when the tank is full. I've owned the Jeep for 2 months now and this has happened 3 times. When the gas tank gets full it spits out the gasoline instead of shutting off the pump handle like it is supposed to. I have searched the internet and have not found any mention of a recall for this problem. Please advise if there is a fix for this.
When filling the tank, rather than shutting off the gas, it burps and overflows. This happens every time I fill it.
When filling up the gas tank, fuel sloshes out of the filler spout just before the pump clicks off. The back-splash volume is large enough to splash onto clothes, run down the side of the vehicle, and leave a small puddle of gasoline on the pavement.
Every Jeep owner I have talked to has a filling splash-back problem when filling their gas tank. Why hasn't there been a recall on all the Jeeps and other models with this same problem. . Get going on this it is not an isolated problem. All Jeeps,,,,, can you read ? all are having this problem. . . Big safety and health issue. Not one place but here did I find to list the problem as a safety issue. Too many sitting on their backsides and doing nothing on this safety issue. Read between the lines and get going. A very disgruntled tax payer and owner of a faulty product that is un-safe and un-healthy with nothing being done about it. Get my drift?. . . . .
When filling gas tank, will not automatically shut off fuel pump which causes overflow every time. This is not intermittent. Causes gas to pour out on back fender of Jeep and down back quarter panel. This is a known issue with many Jeep owners and is posted on multiple forums.
When filling up gas tank, fuel spills from the filling port all over once it is full. This happens every time I fill up and has done since I purchased the car in February 2011.
Adding gasoline to gas tank at a filling station with a standard pump nozzle, will always result in an expulsion of gasoline from the vehicle filler opening when the tank is full. The pump nozzle does shut off the delivery of fuel, but a suspected design flaw permits gasoline to erupt out of the filler opening, which will splash onto an unsuspecting person doing the refilling, onto his shoes, and run down the outside of vehicle, creating an unnecessary health and safety hazard. Video documentation can be easily found with a quick search on youtube.
When filling fuel tank to full capacity, pumps spills fuel out of tank filler tube. Possible roll over valve sticking causing fuel tank to overfill spilling fuel outside of vehicle because the pump don't stop when the tank is full.
When filling the gas tank full, the gas overflows from the gas tank fill site. This spews gasonline (about 1-2 cups of fuel) all over the side of the Jeep and outside of the vehicle. Several times the gas has sprayed on to me as well as pump attendants. The gasoline spillage is an extremely dangerous problem that occurs each time the gas tank is filled.
Fueling the vehicle always results in fuel spray from the vent on the filler neck. This spray happens 100% of fuelings. The tank is often less than 90% full after this and requires topping and additional fuel spray. I have had to report to navy medical to have my eyes flushed and checked after being shot directly in the eyes while listening for the distinct sound of fuel bubbles rising to the top of the fuel filler neck. This causes on average 1/8 gallon of fuel to be spilled per fill up. Over 40k miles at an average of 14mpg that is 22 gallons of fuel spilled and more evaporated. If filling stations require shut off valves, and all new vehicles require evaporative emissions systems to control environmental air quality, to the great detriment of gas mileage, why has this issue not been investigated by the federal government? why do we have to use shoddy gas cans with carb compliant nozzles which cause more fuel spills than normal fuel containers if the government is prepared to ignore this? I've begun using surplus nato jerry cans to fill my truck and avoid being soaked in dangerously flammable and cancer causing fuel.
When filling fuel tank gas pump shuts off too late, results in fuel spillage every time vehicle is filled unless the tank is not filled completely. Gas blows back onto hand of person filling vehicle causing personal injury hazard, and also spills onto ground and vehicle causing fire hazard. The shut-off works, but comes too late to be effective - usually pump shuts off then momentarily later gas flies out of filler neck.
I was filling up my 06 Jeep Wrangler and I got sprayed with fuel on my body, Jeep and ground. The problem has happened every time I try to fill my tank up to full. Im concerned that static electricity might ignite this, myself or another human being. Jeep/ Chrysler refuses to fix this on my Jeep. The same exact same thing was happening to my wife's 07 Chrysler aspen and it was recalled and fixed. We bought both vehicles new and they have never been wrecked. Jeep/ Chrysler are risking peoples lives with this issue.
Gas tank overflows with fuel when filling gas tank and sprays back on you and to ground. I attached a link to a youtube video. This is not my car but I have the exact same problem. . Read more...
When vehicle is being fueled up, gas leaks out of tank and spills. Seems the check valve is stuck of broken. I must make sure I stop filling before it gets full so it doesn't spill.
