In 2022, I paid over $15,000 to an official Jeep dealership (Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram city, greenwich CT) to replace the engine in my Jeep Wrangler. Without clear disclosure or consent, they installed a non-oem jasper remanufactured engine. The invoice misleadingly stated “all parts are new unless otherwise indicated,” with no mention of jasper or warranty terms. The vehicle began malfunctioning almost immediately, raising multiple serious safety concerns, confirmed by written service exchanges: •“the Jeep is stopping alone! just crazy, brakes come on alone” — ?? spontaneous brake engagement poses a serious crash risk. •“it also smells strong gas when turning the car on” — ?? potential fuel leak or misfire, which is a fire hazard. •“the Jeep is malfunctioning,” “check engine light came back on,” “needs a pcm”, followed “I’m not sure this is a computer problem, but the motor you folks placed in the car. ” — ?? suggests deeper integration issues between the engine and vehicle electronics. After only ~8,000 miles, the engine failed again. I spent thousands more with an independent mechanic, who found that several parts supposedly replaced in 2022 were already failing again (spark plugs, oil cooler, manifold gaskets, thermostat). This points to reused components, poor-quality parts, or improper installation. Stellantis refuses to assist, claiming their dealership is “independent,” despite operating under stellantis branding and authorization. A stellantis rep confirmed they would only file an internal complaint and left me to handle everything alone. This reflects mechanical negligence, brand-level accountability failures, and clear safety threats. I’m requesting NHTSA investigate: •post-engine replacement safety hazards and quality of work and materials •dangerous servicing practices at this authorized dealership (if not many or all of them) •stellantis’ lack of oversight over branded repairs.
While I was driving the engine of my Jeep caught fire got out of the vehicle attempted to put it out without success the engine engulfed in flames and the whole Jeep burnt I called the police and fire department and police came.
Driving down the road & my motor just cuts off. Happened 3 times over the past weekend & happened about 5 years ago. . Very dangerous & frightening. After I put it in park, it always restarts. This is not acceptable always happens when driving in traffic.
Loss of engine oil pressure while driving on the highway caused the engine to seize. A porous timing cover caused the bearings to wear out requiring an engine replacement at only 100,000 miles. Jeep/Chrysler is aware of its porous timing cover, and published TSB 09-008-07. The company should pay for replacement of this engine.
Purchased this vehicle used and have had several issues with the catalytic converter . The vehicle will not pass smog.
Vehicle caught fire while sitting in driveway in front of home 30 minutes after driving the vehicle. Total loss.
The throttle control randomly goes out, while it is easy to reset the sensor, so the vehicle remains driveable, it is dangerous to be driving on the highway or crossing the highway with children in the car and the car goes into limp mode. I was turning on the highway where people are doing 60mph and suddenly mid turn the car goes into limp mode and doesn't want to move while cars come speeding at you.
The day before yesterday my car died on the side of the road, I thought maybe I had ran out of gas because the light was on. I filled up with the gas can and the Jeep did not start. I tried to jump it using cables and it wouldn't turn over. I went to autozone and bought a new battery, the Jeep started after that. Yesterday I got an oil change, they checked my battery and showed me the oil after the change, said everything was golden. I was on my way home when my battery light popped on again, I kind of shook it off considering I just replaced it. Well my car jerked me forward, every single light turned on and my steering wheel locked up. I pulled off to the side of the high way as much as I could and my car was completely dead. I got it towed to a mechanic and they called to tell me that the issue was my "tipm" and that I would have to get it towed to a dealership. As I googled what that was regarding my year make and model I found out there was a recall on this about 7 years ago for my Jeep specifically.
Bought the car used. Had plenty of oil and based on the date and miles from the previous oil change had about 600 miles left before needed an oil change. No light came on no gage informed us that I was low on oil and my engine seized, I replaced the engine $6000. 00 later and now the brake hose started shooting oil all over my rear tires while driving on a state highway and nearly crashed having absolutely no brakes. Please tell me who is responsible for this death trap. If it is me than I am going to all local news stations to make sure everyone knows how dangerous these Jeeps are.
My Jeep will start but no gauges or light on dash come on, the wipers turn on at full power. When this happens the Jeep will not shift out of park. I have been told the tipm is causing the issues.
Purchased a 2007 Jeep Wrangler less than a couple years ago with around 53k miles. I have just start experiencing what is known as death wobble, in the middle of my trip from colorado to virginia and the Jeep has been shaking violently at random intervals on the highway. This is known as I seen over 200 complaints online and Chrysler refuses to take responsibility and recall these Jeeps . I am taking to dealer but I won't stop until Chrysler reimburses for these repairs and want other people included the government to look into this. Someone is going to get hurt this is not right this needs to be addressed.
Fire started under the car somewhere between the engine and transmission. Glow of the flame was towards the back of the engine compartment and towards the center of the car. Fire worked its way forward and engulfed the engine compartment. Car was in motion exiting from the highway onto an off ramp when issue was noticed.

The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A police report was filed and there were no injuries reported. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. I was driving down the road the Jeep started spitting and sputtering I pulled over to see what was going on as I go to get out it bursted into flames from under the hood then quickly spread throughout the whole Jeep quickly.

Driving on I-40 approximately 60 mph. Vehicle began to emit dark smoke from rear of vehicle. When slowing the vehicle down to safely exit highway, dash lights flashed and engine stopped resulting in loss of all power and steering. Was forced to steer vehicle to side of off ramp and when coming to a complete stop, the right side of the engine compartment by the front window burst into flames. Fortunately a tow truck company was very close by, witnessed the incident, and attempted to extinguish the fire along with a driver from a local cable company. Blaze was eventually controlled once the fire department arrived on scene. After researching this incident, I am very thankful no one was physically injured. Given the number of similar reports, it would seem the public should be notified of the real risk with these vehicles before anyone else is injured or killed.
The 3. 8 engine used in the Jeep Wrangler line uses an excessive amount of oil. It can use up to 1 quart every 700-800 miles. Chrysler has said on numerous occasions this is "normal". There is numerous complaints on various boards regarding this issue as it seems to affect almost all Wranglers. Chrysler refuses to acknowledge there is a problem and do anything about it. Spending 35,000+ on a vehicle they should last longer than 70k miles.
I was driving to work on the freeway going around 60mph, hit a small bump and the Jeep started to shake so violently my heart went out of my chest. I flipped on my hazards and made my way over to the slow lane, but the shaking stopped. When I arrived to work, I researched the "shaking" and found another name for it, "death wobble. " I can't believe there hasn't been a recall on the parts that cause this, it hasn't caused any fatalities yet; but it will.
I have had 4 electrical/engine events with the most recent occurring in July, 2014 after picking up my kids from camp. As I slowed down for a light, all dash board lights came on, the radio went dead and the engine cut out. Luckily I was coming to a stop at the light, and as I was looking at the dash trying to figure out what happened, the Jeep then turned back on. Please help.
While driving on paved, city boulevard, I heard a very short, almost inaudible "beep" warning, but saw no warning lights. About a week later, I heard the same very short "beep", again, no warning light. About a week later, a "beep" accompanied by the check oil light. I stopped checked oil. I was low. This is the first time I've had low oil on this vehical, bought new. After about a week more of driving the check oil light again came on and I heard a sudden loud knocking from the engine. A diagnostic indicates the engine is "seized" and needs replacing. At less than 5700 miles of easy driving, I find this incredulous.
Jeep died completely - lost power and electrical while driving 60 mph on a hwy. This is the 4th time this has occurred - each time under different driving conditions. There is a recall for this issue with Jeep upto January 22, 2007 models. My Jeep is a February 2007 model so they are saying my Jeep is not covered under this recall.

Jeep violently pops out of first gear when trying to accelerate l. Happens all the time. From doing research online this seems to be a common problem with people who own the manual transmission Jeep model. This can be exceptionally dangerous when going through intersections or changing lanes as the Jeep will pop out if gear and no longer accelerate. This has happened since day one of me purchasing it.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the vehicle suddenly lost acceleration power and decelerated to 5 mph. After driving my 07 Wrangler home from work, approximately 35 minutes, I parked in my drive way and the under part of my Jeep caught on fire and then the Jeep exploded, catching my house on fire. My driveway is on an downward incline.
My 2007 Jeep was in the shop for various repairs, however this one took the cake! I arrived home from work (6milesaway) when I noticed smoke coming out from under the hood. I found it was overheating, no indicator light to warn me, temperature gauge was at normal but the smell of anti-freeze was present. Towed it to the dealer and found the heater hose assembly, to be melted through from the "bad" design, of having it too close to the engine. Also it appeared to have two slices in the hoses , where the clamps were too close to the bend in the hoses. It cost me over $100. 00 to have it fixed.
My engine in a 2007 Jeep Wrangler unlimited had faulty bearings which caused the engine to blow.
I hit a bump and my Jeep started shaking like a dog that is all wet. The only way to stop it was to slow down almost to a complete stop. Then it is fine for a while. This is not safe at all. Called the dealership and they said that there was a recall on this problem, but my Jeep was not one of them, so I will have to pay for this out of my own pocket. Reading so other post I am not the only one that has this problem. Has anybody figured out what will fix this????.
I purchased a 2007 4d Jeep Wrangler on 3/17/10. I had no problems with it and drove it only on roads (not off road). It had approximately 34,000 miles on it and no damage history. It was pre-owned certified. On June 27, 2010 it started to hesitate when the accelerator was depressed. I made an appointment to take it to a local dealer. On June 29th I was driving to the dealer per appointment and it lost power. It then burst into flames and is a total loss. I have contacted Chrysler and they are conducting an investigation but have not contacted me with a solution.
2007 Jeep Wrangler sahara with 21k miles. Vehicle will not start at times. Intermittent issue happens every couple of weeks. Vehicle will eventually start after multiple attempts. Taken to Jeep service and no error codes come up. They can not find a problem.
Vehicle continues to lose power while in motion. As a result there is a loss of power breaking as well as steering. Chrysler has investigated the problem several times including an opportunity for one last fix under the lemon law statute in florida. Yet the condition persists. Chrysler has determined that they will only agree to settle the outstanding issue with this dangerous condition if they are provided with yet another opportunity to inspect the vehicle. Chrysler of auburn hills has been notified of this unsafe condition and has responded with customer relations representative richard wilcox 407-826-7035 who advised of the additional inspection required before they will consider settling this matter. It does not seem that Chrysler is at all concerned with the obvious potential for bodily harm that may occur as a result of the incidents of power loss and the resultant control problems with the vehicle.
The events leading up to m failure are quite simple. I take the same route to and from work everyday, and at the point where the failure happened I always have my cruise set at between 55 - 60 mph. It was a regular day, no precipitation and I was cruising in sixth gear. While I was driving down the road, all the sudden I noticed my stereo and head lights turned off, I looked down and all of my dash lights and instrument panels had turned off. Sitting in my seat while driving down the road at 60 mph it looked as if my car was turned off. It lasted long enough for me to realize I had a potentially huge problem, and to look all around me quickly for nearby vehicles just in case something was about to go terribly wrong. It was probably on 4 - 6 seconds in all actuality, but it felt like longer. I would be very interested to know what would have happened if I had tried to steer or brake. Would it have worked? also, my Jeep is still 100% stock, factory tires and all. I was fortunate enough not to have an accident, but I don't know if I would have been able to avoid one if I had to because I don't know if the vehicle would have still been responsive during the "black out. " this happened two days ago, and it is now memorial day weekend. I plan on contacting the dealer on Tuesday to see what can be done, but from my research online, my hopes are not high. It seems there are plenty of related incidents out there, and nobody seems to be getting any real help from their dealerships.
