34 problems related to engine stall have been reported for the 2007 Jeep Wrangler. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I bought my Jeep 12/12/16 and it had 43,319 miles on it. On 2/7/17 at 45,233 miles I had the first engine replacement done. On 5/17/17 at 46,552 miles I had the transmission rebuilt. On 11/1/18 at 65,858 miles I had the second engine replacement. On 3/8/19 at 68,980 miles I had the third replacement engine installed. I got my Jeep back on 4/15/19 and now I hear a ticking like sound and I'm told it could be an exhaust leak. Also, before I got the third engine installed the Jeep would pop out of first gear when I start to accelerate, just like before. I talked to the mechanic who rebuilt my transmission and he said this is a common problem with the 2007 Jeep Wrangler. He said he could fix it, but eventually it will start popping out of first gear again.
2007 Jeep Wrangler unlimited sahara will stall while driving down the road at any given time/speed. Wipers will start going off without turning them on, followed by engine stalling, leaving me unable to accelerate. Meanwhile, my wheels lock up leaving me unable to steer. Very dangerous. Already had the tipm reprogrammed in 2010, and then again 2 days ago. (October 16th, 2015). On the way home from getting it "fixed", wipers go off again and engine stalls. Paid $825 for nothing. This needs to be dealt with.
My 2007 Jeep jku sahara will completely shut down and stall at any given time while I am driving at any speed. The wipers and horn will go off even when in the "off" position, followed by the engine stalling. My wheels will lock up and I cannot give the vehicle gas. I can only brake and slightly turn off to the side of the road. This is extremely dangerous because there is no telling when it will happen. Recall for tipm has already been "reprogrammed" and apparently there are no power modules available. The dealership told me that if a certain code does not pop up, that I will have to replace everything on my own. Well, how am I suppose to do that when there are no power modules available? this problem needs to be fixed ASAP.
Was driving my 2007 Jeep Wrangler to work and I was going about 35mph around a corner and after I got out of the corner the Jeep jerked engine stalled kicked back on then stalled again then died and wouldn't start back up had to have it towed to the mech. Shop and he said the crank busted. . . . Love those junk 3. 8 Jeep wont admit theirs a defect with.
While driving westbound on the highway to parumph nv the engine stalled out at approximately 65 mph. I was lucky there was no traffic going my direction and the highway way fairly straight. I was able to controll the vehicle well enough to get it to the side of the road without incident. Complete loss of power could have had tragic results under different circumstances. I'm getting rid of this death trap. This happened once before on a trip to searchlight a year ago, engine stall / roughly the same speed. The dealership that repaired it in henderson said it was a faulty maf sensor.
It started with a slight knock in the engine at first start up. It would go away after a few minutes. That lasted about 3-4 weeks. Until one start up the engine would not stop ticking, by the time I arrived home the engine was knocking violently. Oil levels were fine. Had the Jeep towed to the dealership to have the engine inspected, to see if it would be covered under warranty. The tech did an inspection and I was told that the engine spun 2 connecting rod bearings, bent 4 rods, damaged 4 pistons, damage to crank, and almost all oil passages in engine were clogged by metal debris. This was the first time the factory seal on the engine was opened. The dealership contacted Chrysler and told them the situation. I spoke with Chrysler many times over the month span that the Jeep was at the dealership,I also had the dealership fax almost 20 other cases to the claims dept. That I have done research on the same situation and provided the vehicle year, make, and mileage including all of my sources. Chrysler told me that they would not cover the engine repair because of the mileage and that I was not the first owner of the vehicle, the Jeep has 53k on it. No one at the dealership could tell me the reason why this happened, or how I caused the engine to self destruct. I was told by another mechanic that the oil ports inside the engine going to the crank were designed too small, and this is why the crank bearings were failing. I have taken the Jeep to another mechanic, he advised that a new engine should be installed. He tried to order a new engine from his supplier, but was told they are on a national backorder and that it would take about a week to receive a new one. He was told that Chrysler is very aware of the situation and has refused to take any action as of now.
My engine stalls and Jeep wants to turn off. I also am having brake problems rear brakes have been replaced 3 times in only 26,000 miles front brakes still look like new. Have taken it to dealer multiple time but they cant find out why its doing these things.
My wife and I have experienced at least five (5) incidents where the vehicle engine stalls/kills and either restarts itself or has be manually restarted via ignition key. The symptoms mirror exactly those described in NHTSA action number pe07027. (driving on highway when vehicle dash lights up as if freshly started, and sometimes needs to be manually restarted, and sometimes has restarted itself) the first incident was experienced by my wife in August of 2009, and the vehicle was subsequently inspected by Jeep dealer [xxx] motors of minocqua, WI, who after inspection and road test reported "no trouble found. " (per my invoice dated 8/24/09) at that point the vehicle was under warranty with 33,054 miles on the odometer, and I was charged $35. 25 for that service item. The most recent incident occurred October 14, 2013, and was witnessed by my son. In that case I was driving approximately 75 mph on I-70 approaching I-15 in utah when the engine stalled. The vehicle needed to be manually restarted via key. That was the 3rd incident I've experienced in the past 5 months.
Engine stalls while driving at any speed. The computer module has been reprogrammed but the problem still exists. After the engine stalls, many of the dash lights illuminate including, but not limited to, the esp/bas, brake, oil, battery, ignition, engine, airbag lights. The vehicle will start once the computer has reset and the warning lights dim. I've been to two different dealers three separate times since the problem began with no result.
Driving my 2007 Jeep Wrangler about 55 mph when the engine stalled and the dash lights lit up, 5 seconds later it restarted and the dash warning lights went off as normal. Called the local service dept. And an appointment was made but was told it would be "like finding a needle in a haystack" .
My model year 2007 Jeep Wrangler with the 3. 8l v6 engine and automatic transmission continues to lose engine power without warning. When this occurs, momentary loss of engine power on acceleration or at cruising speed and all interior warning lights in the instrument cluster light up all at once. The radio whether playing a cd or just the radio feature cuts out at the same time this happens. This has occurred whether cruising down the highway or in stop and go traffic. Tonight it happened while sitting at a stop light and when I accelerated on the light changing to green, the engine lost power and all warning lights briefly came on and the radio stopped. The engine never stalled, but lost all power and within a few seconds all worked again. I nearly was hit from behind when they started to move forward through the light. This is a safety concern now that I've almost been in an accident as a result of this condition. I'll be contacting both my Jeep dealer in the morning and daimler-Chrysler about this.
On Feb 5th, I was driving on the freeway at about 65 mph and my car died - dash lights went on, car jerked to a violent slow down and I almost crashed into a semi on my left, the car pulled to the left. All resumed to normal after about 4 seconds. I have filed previous complaint, conf nbr 10188682. This is the 4th incident but what is most shocking is that the first 2 times I brought it to the dealership repaid shop I was told that they couldn't duplicate the error and that they and Chrysler corp didn't have record of any other reports of this problem. On the 2nd visit, I advised the service person that he should look at this web site if he had never heard of this problem since there were numerous complaints. On the 3rd incident, when I got home, there was a recall "safety recall g25-program tipm-engine stalling- so I called the service center, again, advised that car stalled again and that I also received recall and scheduled the service - Aug 2007. After this visit I felt more secure to drive the car because at least Chrysler had acknowledged the problem. The on Feb 5th 2008 as I was driving to work, it happened again. I continued to work and at the end of the day when I went back to the car it wouldn't start, all lights/radio etc came on but the car wouldn't turn over. I had it towed to Jeep. I was told by service person, after the car was inspected that the control module - same item that caused previous problems, had to be replaced. I purchased this vehicle new, so that I would have a dependable and safe vehicle - neither of which it is! I asked the service manager what Chrysler could do for me. He said that from the notes it looked like I only had one occurrence with this issue and that this was the first he heard of this type of problem with Jeep - wow - either he out right lied to me or he is an uninformed manager. Needless to say I am not confident that this issue wont occur again!.
While negotiating a right hand curve on a local town road in my 07 Jeep Wrangler x, 2-dr, the dashboard lit up and the engine stalled for approx. 2 seconds and then restarted itself for no apparent reason. This caused a loss of power steering (I assume) as steering/controlling the vehicle became very difficult. I was traveling about 35 mph with no passengers. This vehicle has a build date of 04/17/07 and was purchased brand new from a Jeep dealer on 07/02/07. The vehicle had 4166 miles on the odometer when this incident occurred. After checking daimlerchrysler safety recall g25, reprogram tipm - engine stalling dated July 2007, I see that although I have the exact symptoms listed, the build date of my vehicle falls outside the date listed in the recall (01-22-07). Obviously this needs to be updated. . Read more...
I had my vehicle electrical and brakes cut out 3 times (almost in an accident twice). I spoke to a dealership near me 3 times and one time they tried to replicate it. They said they did not know what caused it. Through searching on this site, I found that it was a common problem and a recall (g25-reprogram tipm-engine stall) to fix it. The dealership played dumb to the issue until proof was shown, but still would not fix it because my VIN# did not match recall specific list. Chrysler also would not ok them to fix it (ref#16730876) because I did not have the right VIN#, eventhough it is the right model, year, symptoms, etc. Chrysler did not care that it was a safety issue and that it could be solved. I was told to try to replicate it for the dealership. Concerned for safety, I went back to the dealership where I bought it. They instantly knew about the issue described and reprogrammed the tipm with no charge (they obviously understood the danger). Chrysler needs to expand their recall list and change its policy on such a dangerous situation. Luckily there was some humanity still around at the place where I bought it.
While driving 2007 Jeep Wrangler engine stalls leaving car without power to brake or steer until restarted.
Car engine stalls . . . Gauge lights flash. . . Loss of power steering, brakes. I notice the problem mostly when entering/exiting turns and when I have driven in sand.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler 4x4. The contact received a recall notice regarding the engine stalling. The earliest appointment date she could schedule is for July 23, 2007. She felt that the wait time was unreasonable. No failures have occurred at this time. The NHTSA recall # was unknown. The current mileage is 383 and the failure mileage was inapplicable.
Electronic control light appeared. Engine stalled while pulling into parking place causing complete loss of all electronics as well as power steering and power brakes. Due to size and weight of vehicle, without power steering and brakes, very narrowly missed hitting another vehicle before vehicle could be stopped. Area was heavily populated with pedestrians. Thankfully none were present directly in my path. Vehicle going to dealer tomorrow however after much internet research it appears Chrysler has not been able to remedy the problem.
On four occasions since purchasing the vehicle, while driving at highway speeds, the engine has stalled and all of the electrical components lost power for about 1. 5 to 2 seconds. Everything then returned to normal operation. When this occurs, all of the dash lights come on as though the ignition key was in the "on" position, as it is just before starting the car, then all returned to normal. This is a frightening experience at highway speeds. Should a driver be in the midst of an emergency maneuver during one of these occurrences, a serious accident can happen. This first happened in December , and the dealer where the vehicle was purchased replaced the ignition switch, but this has happened three additional times, the last being the date listed on this complaint. The service department at the dealership has been notified and the service representative has informed me that he noted all four reported incidents in the computer system.
Engine stalls while driving.
It happens to a 2007 Jeep Wrangler, 2 dr, 6-sp manual. I was doing city driving, and was shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear, when suddenly all lights on the dashboard turned on, and the radio cut off, engine stall for a split second, and turn back on to normal. Dealer did a TSB on this but doesn't solve the problem.
Engine stall total electrical failure at highway speed.
2007 Jeep Wrangler unlimited engine stalled on road while traveling at 55 mph. Dash lights came on, speedo read zero. Lost all power. Engine started back up about a second or two later. Happened at about 3,200 miles on odometer. No one can fix it because the stall can not be replicated.
Vehicle stalled without warning while traveling at slow speeds under low engine load. One occurrence was pulling out into traffic. Throttle becomes unresponsive, engine bogs down and stalls.
When driving engine will just stall, it seem to be about every two to three weeks. This has happen at lest 9 times, and not at the same speeds, one time I almost hit the back of a truck (lost of power brakes). It has also been at the dealer 5 times. Each time they say we got it now, you should be all set now(not). This 4 door Jeep sucks. Maybe something will be done when a few people die in an crash, I hope not, but it will happen sooner or later.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler 4x2. While driving 55 mph or greater, the interior lights flashed and the engine stalled. The failure has occurred on several occasions, some of which the vehicle would restart, but twice it was towed. The vehicle also starts intermittently. The vehicle has been to the dealer four times regarding these failures. The vehicle was repaired under recall number 07v291000 (electrical system), but the failure persists. The current mileage was 9,634 and failure mileage was 8,600. The consumer stated the vehicle stalled again on 8/23/07. The consumer provided multiple repair invoices and pictures of the vehicle. Updated 08/31/07.
While driving in heavy traffic on a busy street, I pulled into a left-hand turn lane and stopped at a red light. I was about six cars back in the line of traffic. While stopped I felt a slight engine shudder and then the engine stalled. All of the lights on the dash lit up. I placed the vehicle in park and started the engine back up. The dash lights went out and I proceeded on my way. My vehicle has just over 3,000 miles on it. It was very concerning to stall in the middle of such heavy traffic in a new vehicle. I am taking it to the dealer tomorrow to be checked.
Three times since I purchased the 2007 Jeep Wrangler unlimited the engine stalled for no apparent reason. Twice I was climbing a mountain pass at approximately 55 mph, and once I was at an intersection going approximately 15 mph. All three times the engine cut off, all lights on the dash came on, and the momentum of the car started the engine after about two seconds. There was no power steering or brakes while the engine was off. Luckily, there was no need to make immediate stops or turns while the engine was off. These incidents happened about 3,000 miles apart.
While driving my 2007 Jeep x unlimited w/ automatic transmission, build date 12/06, on a long trip engine had been running for 4 hours straight. Approached a stop light at about 35 mph and engine stalled. All dash lights came on and radio cut out. I had my ipod hooked up to the auxiliary jack. Had over 1/4 tank of gas.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler. The current mileage was 6800. While driving 65 mph the engine stalled and completely lost power. All of the warnining indicator lights were on. After two seconds the contact was able to restart the vehicle. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was 3000.
My vehicle has been running poorly since the 3rd day of purchase (03/07) and at safe highway speeds, the engine just stalls. . . . . It happens very often, about 3 times a month. . . . . . The dealership says that it is operating within normal parameters and there is no solution for this issue at this time. . . . . Huummmm.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler. While driving between 55-60 mph, the electrical system failed and the vehicle lost power. The engine stalled without warning. After five seconds, the vehicle resumed normal operation. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnostic testing, but they could not duplicate the failure. The failures recurred on three separate occasions. The authorized dealer was notified twice, but there were no resolutions. The vehicle is in the process of being towed. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 30,000 and current mileage was 90,000.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler x rhd 4x4. The contact stated that the roof of the vehicle is leaking. He also stated that the engine has stalled numerous times, most recently while accelerating to 15 mph from a stop. The engine completely shuts off during this failure. The contact stated that the starter remains engaged as well. The current mileage is 11,000 and failure mileage was 400.
2007 Jeep Wrangler engine stalls and loss of electricity and power steering. This happened 2 times. Vehicle was driving under 50 mph for both instances. In both instances, the stall/loss of electricity/loss of power steering lasted for only about 1 second.
