36 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/29/2015

I was driving on interstate at approx 65 mph. I switched lanes and all of a sudden had this intense shaking initially thinking a tire was going down. I didn't stop until I got down to about 25mph. I did all I could to keep the Jeep in the lane. I have read about death wobble. . . I can't believe this is happening. This is a 2007 Jeep Wrangler unlimited sahara 4-dr 4x4.

37 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/17/2015

At approximately 50mph if I hit a minor bump in the road my Jeep begins to shake violently and control is lost to the vehicle to the point that you must come to a complete stop before regaining control. This is called "death wobble" by online communities and service repairmen. The incident almost caused a collision as I was unable to keep the car in my lane and ran another car into a ditch. Luckily no one was hurt or property damaged.

38 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2015

The doors will no longer lock or unlock, at times the locking of the doors is intermittent. We recently had the clock spring repaired at lampe Dodge and then the locks started malfunctioning. I took the vehicle to a repair shop and they called the dealership and were informed that I needed to replace the tipm module. I am researching this out myself due to the dealership reporting this was a common problem that Jeep is ignoring. Additionally I will be filing a report on the 2007 Wrangler exhaust system. The same repair shop was looking into the exhaust noise coming from this vehicle and informed me of two cracked exhaust manifolds. Additionally exhaust manifold 1 was missing 3 bolts and exhaust manifold 2 was missing 2 bolts. At this time the mechanic believed the bolts had been forced out of their location by faulty exhaust manifolds that warped.

39 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2015

I have been experiencing an extreme shaking while operating the vehicle. I occurs very randomly and comes on with out notice. It occurs on the highway as well suburban streets and at any speed. I read an article from 08' from another person that had the same issue. It sounded like nothing was done from this organization and the vehicle maker. This is very unsafe situation for owners of this vehicle and is a safety hazard for others on the road. Please respond to this message and let me know if something can and will be done.

40 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2015

Death wobble-have had this problem repaired and comes back. Cannot drive over 55 mph in city or highway without entire car starting to violently shake. Will shake for about a minute and stop on its own. Very scary and dangerous. Have had this problem for over a year.

41 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2014

While traveling down a 35 mph county road, I went into a small turn and my Jeep started violently shaking to the point that I could not control the steering. I have researched this on the web and have seen it often called "death wobble". I managed to pull over into a church parking lot and decided to turn around and take it back home. Once I got going, the steering wheel again began violently shaking and again I had no control of the vehicle. I called my husband to come get me because I was not driving this vehicle anymore like this. He crawled under the Jeep and noticed the welds of the steering stabilizer bracket had completely broken off from the front axle. This is the second time this has happened. On oct 11, 2011, I lost control of the Jeep and ran off the road into a ditch. There was $4000 worth of damage including replacement of the front axle because the steering stabilizer bracket had separated from the axle! I have no doubt in my mind because of the occurrence of this second incident that the first accident was at no fault of my own but instead a manufacturer flaw in the design of this bracket!.

42 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2014

The front end began to shake violently after hitting an uneven road on a hill/curve. The shaking would not stop until I hit the brakes. This occurred three times in December of 2014. A mechanic said the steering stabilizer and front ball joints needed to be replaced and the problem was common with Jeeps, known as the "death wobble".

43 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/26/2014

As I was driving on the highway, reaching speeds of approximately 60mph, I hit a rough patch in the road and the Jeep begin to shake back and forth very forcefully, pulling to the right. Once I let off the gas and the Jeep slowed down to approx. 40mph, it finally stopped. Every time I hit a rough patch it will shake violently. My husband and I have named this "the death wobble".

44 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2014

I just bought this in Aug 2014. I was driving home from work and hit a bump my steer wheel went from side to side for about 5 seconds and the second time it happen I brought it to a dealer they said nothing wrong it happen 4 more times sense then they are now calling it the death wobble.

45 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2014

We have had this incident many times before, referred to as the 'death wobble', had the steering pin replaced twice, and new tires, alignment and was fine for 3 months and yesterday it happened again, hit a bump in the road going 45 mph and Jeep just started rocking and jumping all over the road, had to pull off the road the make it stop. When are you people going to do something about this????? when someone gets killed????? this is so dangerous and I cannot believe that this has not been recalled, so many people have this and are very upset, has this been looked into???? if you are for safety than this would have been looked into a long time ago!!!!!.

46 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/31/2014

While driving and the vehicle hits roughly 55 mph the vehicle starts shaking violently. The steering wheel nearly snatches out of my hand in a violent matter. The vehicle feels as though it is about to crash. I have to slam on breaks, hoping no one is behind me, to slow the vehicle to stop the violent shaking. The shaking is known as the "death wobble".

47 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2014

My vehicle developed a horrible wobble in the steering and suspension while driving at about 60 mph on the highway. I slowed down and the wobble stopped but persisted whenever I went approximately 60 mph. I took the vehicle to the dealership, they are very aware of the Jeep death wobble however the cost of repairs is mine to bear. This could cause a significant accident, yet Jeep is ignoring repairing this. To this day it is still not fixed 100%.

48 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/22/2014

We hit a bad patch in the road, and the Jeep began to shake violently. My husband took his foot off the accelerator and let it slow down on it's own, I pushed the hazard lights, and we carefully moved into the emergency lane. We examined the tires and undercarriage not knowing what had happened. We thought maybe our shocks needed replacing which we subsequently did. This issue has occurred twice since. Again, the vehicle shakes violently and is very difficult to manage. We simply let the vehicle slow (without hitting brakes) and eventually, it comes back under control. Honestly, I am very uncomfortable in the vehicle at this point if we are on rough roads.

49 Steering problem

Jeep death wobble.

50 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/27/2014

After driving (between 45 mph and 55 mph) over a series of small bumps in the road (paved highway), I experienced (and am now continuing to experience, on a more frequent basis) a very dramatic, violent, terrifying, and nearly uncontrollable shaking of my entire vehicle (2007 Jeep Wrangler) which I have recently learned online (from reading countless reports from other Jeep Wrangler drivers experiencing the same terrifying event) is being called the dreaded Jeep "death wobble" (appropriately named as one rightly feels as though the driver of and passengers within vehicle could possibly suffer a tragic and life-ending accident resulting from this obvious very serious vehicle malfunction). As a loyal Jeep customer and owner over the past 3 decades (having my vehicles regularly serviced as recommended at their authorized Chrysler/Jeep locations), I immediately reported this matter to Chrysler/Jeep corporation and after asking if a recall has been issued, was told "no" and that none was being considered. In absolute amazement (and disgust), I advised Chrysler/Jeep that such inaction by Chrysler/Jeep would not only place its vehicle owners at great personal risk (accident and possibly even death from resulting accidents), but could also subject Chrysler/Jeep to legal action such as class action suits being filed nationwide by each state's attorneys general's offices. Please kindly fully investigate and take immediate corrective action to require Chrysler/Jeep to fully address and correct this unsafe, terrifying (and possibly even life-threatening) matter. Thank you.

51 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2014

It's the 5th time this has happened. While driving my Jeep Wrangler at more than 45 miles an hour the front end begins to shake uncontrollably. I begin to lose control. I have to apply brakes and nearly stop at highway speeds causing safety issues for other drivers. Chrysler has admitted to the issue and has issued a service bulletin 19-002-12. This first happened when my Jeep was under warranty and they fixed it. This is a serious safety concern.

52 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2014

Vehicle experiences violent shaking that requires you to dramatically slow down to stop. Wobbles back and forth to an extreme that control is nearly lost. Completely stock vehicle with factory replacement tires. Tires are balanced and vehicle is aligned within spec. Online research states this is called "death wobble" as result of mismatched fastener sizes in factory assembly.

53 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2014

Was driving down the road going around 60 mph when front end begin to violently shake. Was unable to control vehicle. No precursor to the incident. Was in very heavy traffic at highway speeds. Caused great danger to myself and surrounding as I fought off the shaking and took it to the shoulder.

54 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2014

Violent shaking at 50 mph had to slow to 30 mph would happen with gradual corners crossing uneven pavement ie. On ramp. I replaced steering damper which seemed to alleviate problem. The vehicle has stock configuration the same brand and size of tires it was originally equipped with.

55 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2014

I was driving to work on the freeway going around 60mph, hit a small bump and the Jeep started to shake so violently my heart went out of my chest. I flipped on my hazards and made my way over to the slow lane, but the shaking stopped. When I arrived to work, I researched the "shaking" and found another name for it, "death wobble. " I can't believe there hasn't been a recall on the parts that cause this, it hasn't caused any fatalities yet; but it will.

56 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2014

The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. In addition, the vehicle would exhibit an abnormal noise when accelerating and when the vehicle sporadically failed to start. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced due to the connection rod failing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was contacted and advised that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 09v436000 (power train). The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

57 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2014

When driving at 40 mph or faster the car will hit a bump and start shaking violently to the point where loss of control could occur. Could possibly be just the tires, but seems a lot of earlier jk Wranglers suffer from this.

58 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/08/2014

While driving on interstate and immediately after crossing over a bridge, the front end and steering wheel began to violently shake. Braking did not bring the condition under control. Fortunately I was in the right lane and able to pull onto the right shoulder. The shaking stopped when my speed fell below 25mph. I purchased this vehicle at approx 50,000 miles. This condition has never occurred before. Clearly there is potential for outright loss of steering control, or potential for collision from behind due to need for rapid deceleration while driving at a highway speeds.

59 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/16/2014

I was slowing while I was approaching a red light. The light turned green and I began my right turn. At this point, the front wheels wobbled and the steering tightened, taking me into the path of an oncoming vehicle (2010 Ford f-150) slowing to a stop for his red light. Upon impact, the seat belt (in use at the time) failed to actuate and the airbags failed to deploy, the driver's seat moved forward, throwing me into the steering wheel and windshield. I sustained a minor head laceration and impact trauma to the right chest. The combine speed of the crash was approximately 25-30 miles per hour. A passenger in the other vehicle was treated and released from the local hospital.

60 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2014

I was driving approximately 55-60mph, there were some mild tar bumps in the road that I drove over and the car proceeded to the death wobble. It is exactly as everyone else has noted, the Jeep felt like all 4 wheels were coming off, the Jeep shook voilently, was extremely hard to handle. I slowed my speed and pulled off the road. The car felt like it was going to come apart. This is a known problem to Chrysler and to this organization, why won't you do something about it????? with only 33k miles, I now have to get a new car because I am in fear of driving this one. If this had happened in the middle lane of an expressway. . . . It could have been tragic and deadly. . . . Is that what you are waiting for? hope it isn't anyone you know when it does happen!.

61 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

Vehicle goes into a very bad shaking and wobble of the front suspension, typically at highway speeds and after passing over a bump in the road, frequently even a very small bump. The only way to stop the rattle/wobble after it begins, is to come to a complete stop. I have had several repair shops examine it, alignment checked, tires replaced, suspension parts replaced.

62 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2013

The 2007 Jeep Wrangler unlimited x model began violent shaking in the front end at highway speeds. The shaking started mildly then became violent. I slowed down and the shaking subsided but this is extremely dangerous when the traffic flow is moving at faster rates. An on-line search indicates that this is common in this model. I believe this should be recalled and fixed.

63 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/29/2013

I was driving on a 4 lane highway at 60mph when the car started vibrating so violently I thought I had lost a wheel. I could barely control the car and was surrounded by 18 wheelers. I was horrified. I pulled onto the shoulder and got out expecting to see a flat tire but everything looked fine. I got back in and drove down the road only to have it happen again when I went over 55mph. I called emergency service and had it towed to the dealership. They "fixed" it and charged me for the work done. But when I drove it again at 53mph when I hit a bump it started vibrating again. I now never drive over 50mph over the fear of it happening again. I looked it up on the internet and it is called death wobble and Jeep will not help us. I have not altered my vehicle at all. This is a dangerous defect and needs a recall before someone dies. Please do something before it is too late. It is like driving on the worst washboard road you ever saw at 60mph surrounded by traffic. It is a recipe for disaster. The car shakes so violently that the wheels wobble. Please look it up on the internet. A reporter in California did a story on it. Please do a recall. I have been driving Jeeps since 1986 and this is the 4th Jeep I have owned. This has never happened to me before. My last Jeep had 131,000 miles on it and I had no problems. Jeep has obviously changed the design or is using cheaper parts. This is not good for the Jeep brand.

64 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2013

When traveling at 45 mph I made a slight left turn in the road and went over a long small bump in the road maybe from a road seam that was filled in. Both wheels hit it at the same time and the Jeep slowly started shaking until it became very violent inside the Jeep. I had to slow my speed down to appox 10 mph to get it to stop. I happened to have a coworker behind me who saw the whole thing from behind and said the the car was shaking back and forth so much that it looked like my rims were almost touching the road since my tire treads stayed straight. It felt like I had 4 flats. I changed the steering dampener and the shocks to rancho brand which are larger than the oem but it happened again but not nearly as bad since I now know when it could possibly happen. If there were cars next to me I would have hit them. This is a very real problem which is scary. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

65 Steering problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2013

While driving at a slow to moderate speed, the front end shakes uncontrollably and you can't control the steering. This happens driving slow, or at 60 mph, straight aways or curves. The only way to get it stopped is to apply the brakes and come to a stop. This Jeep has not been lifted, it has the same parts on it as what was on it when purchased and I was told nothing was done to it. This is extremely dangers and scary for the driver.

66 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2013

I bought a new 2007 Jeep Wrangler death wobble started at 70,000 miles mark Mitsubishi in phoenix az has not helped me out at all it goes every 10,000 miles on me and they just replaced my tires. Death wobble occurred the day after and before. How do we all get together who have this problem and get Jeep to be responsible for a defective front end. Death wobble is not only scary it is dangerous and I hope that it doesn't take someone getting killed for them to finally replace it.

67 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2013

Driving on 4 lane non-interstate road in the rain at approximately 40 mph. Drove through a puddle that seemed to affect the left front tire only and the front end began to shake violently as though something had came loose. There was a strong pull to the left also. I'm thinking I will have to get the front end checked out, stopped at a grocery store for a few things and when headed home the shake is still there, but not so violent. Parked at home overnight and headed out the next day to get it looked at and there is no shake whatsoever, vehicle drives like it always has. In doing some research on the internet I see a problem others seem to be having exactly like mine and it's being called the "death wobble". It has not done this since this one time but it has me worried that it will at any time, and could be very dangerous.

68 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2013

On the 2007 Jeep Wrangler (lhd) dashboard, the airbag warning light flashes on every other minute with a chime, an indication that there is something malfunctioning or interfering with the vehicle's airbags. This has been a recurring issue and concern for many 2007 Jeep Wrangler (lhd) owners, including myself, and has been shown time and time again to be caused by a faulty clockspring within the vehicle's steering wheel. This faulty clockspring is the culprit for potential airbag failure in the 2007 Jeep Wrangler (lhd) during an accident or premature deployment when simply driving around. Daimler Chrysler has refused to address the safety concern of their faulty clockspring that can cause failure of the vehicle's airbags from properly deploying.

69 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2013

I was driving on highway when hitting 65mph and Jeep started to shake uncontrollably. I would have to stop and pull over to a lower speed for it to stop. But if I was in left lane and it started I couldn't swing to breakdown lane so would have to stop immediately in traffic. Very unsafe but better than causing accident. I replaced the steering stabilizer last summer with no relief. Why is Jeep not handling this ? why are people like us spending thousands of dollars on a vehicle just to have cause life threatening issues I have many things and read up on this death wobble of Jeep. Is it something I can get lawyers involved ?.

70 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2013

Stock 2007 with fairly new original size tires Wrangler with "death wobble" at 55 miles an hours the Jeep begin to shake violently and I had to slow below 45 for the wobble to stop. After I had the recommended upgrade to the steering dampener I was traveling through a canyon on I-70 and went over an expansion joint. I almost lots control and hit the car next to me related to this wobble. This Jeep has been taken this vehicle to the dealer 5 times in the last three months, they have replaced every possible part on the front end of this car. The tires are from 2009 with almost 2/3 tread remaining. The dealership is at a lost for why this problem continues. I have decided to sell the Jeep back to the dealer because I am no longer able to feel safe and will not take my family in this care. The wobble is very unpredictable and therefore very hard to duplicate but none the less it is very possible to lose control when this occurs. Please look into why this is so common before someone is killed.
