11 problems related to manual transmission have been reported for the 2008 Jeep Wrangler. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Pops out of 1st gear 2-4 times a day.
I purchased a new 2008 Jeep Wrangler sahara edition in April of 2008. Since November of 2008 I have had several issues with the Jeep which are widely reported on the internet. The first issue was the transmission would pop out of first gear when it was cold or rainy. I immediately took it back to the dealer but they would not fix it because they couldn't get the problem to reoccur. It took Chrysler 1 year before they acknowledged the problem. So in the spring of 2010 they installed a gear rebuild kit. Meanwhile I was driving an unsafe vehicle for an entire year. The mechanic informed me that this was a temporary fix and that the problem would likely occur again. Sure enough just six months ago the transmission started to pop out of first gear. Now I am battling to try and get the dealer to fix it again. The second issue which just occurred last week and earlier today is what the internet refers to as the "death wobble. " once I get above 55mph and I hit a pot hole the Jeep wobbles uncontrollably until I completely stop. According to most forums the dealership also gives customers a very hard time about fixing this issue as well. I will attempt to contact the dealer tomorrow about the death wobble. This Jeep Wrangler 07-10 has some serious issues which need to be address immediately. Chrysler needs to issue recalls before someone gets seriously hurt. This is my third Jeep Wrangler, my first new Wrangler, and I am very disappointed in it.
The failure is the manual transmission violently pops out of first gear when starting to accelerate. This issue happens intermittently. When it happens, there is a complete loss of power to the wheels presenting a serious safety issue.
I have a little over 45k miles on my 2008 Jeep jk and this started happening about 5 months ago. The first 1-2 times I sort of chalked it up to an unusual oddity. But it has now happened over a couple of dozen times! it seems to happen more and more now. This is a manual 6 speed transmission. . . . The problem has happened in first gear only. It always happens from a standstill stop. So I am stopped and in 1st gear (I know I am clearly and definitively in 1st gear as I am very conscience of it now!). I start going by slowly applying the gas as I ease off the clutch. . . And pop! the transmission snaps out of gear into neutral. It is a very violent experience. It gives the sensation of being hit from behind (what I thought the first time it happened). I am 47 years old and been driving a standard transmission since I was 15. This is the first ever of such type of problem for me. Nothing has been done as of yet for this problem . This is a very dangerous problem and at a busy intersection could be a potential deadly accident. I’ve read on many Jeep forums this is becoming a problem more and more every day going back to 2008. .
Occationally my transmission violently "pops" out of first gear when I am moving from a complete stop. I have now kade a habit of holding the shift level into 1st gear and sometimes it forces my hand and the shift lever out of gear no matter how hard I am pushing the shift lever.
The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while attempting to accelerate, the vehicle independently shifted from first gear. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised that the shifter boot would need replacing. The vehicle was repaired yet the failure persisted. The dealer then replaced the transmission with a rebuilt transmission. The manufacturer was contacted but provided no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 50, 000 and the current mileage was 66,000. Updated 03/31/lj updated 04/05/jb.
2008 Jeep sahara unlimited continually pops out of 1st gear (violently) when attempting to start driving from a full stop.
From the time I bought the car, when I would put it into 1st gear, it would pop out of gear once I applied the gas. This would happen daily. I told my dealer about this and because they could not duplicate the problem, they were unable to do anything about it. Finally, almost 2 years later, I was on the freeway and the whole gear shifter came out and I was unable to put the car into neutral, almost getting into an accident. I then had the car towed to the nearest dealer where they replaced the gear shifter and told me that the part that held it together was broken and that must have been the reason why it would pop out of gear, because it was never able to be locked in properly. They still can not open up the insides to see if there is anything else wrong unless the problem happens again and they are able to witness it. So basically, I have to be put in a situation where this can happen again in order for them to "maybe" witness it, or I can get into a terrible accident, something I narrowly escaped last time. They can not open anything up because they will not get reimbursed unless they are certain something is wrong, then they will go to the source and investigate, when they know they will get paid for it.
The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle would shift into neutral. The failure would recur sporadically and the vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to diagnose the failure. The dealer replaced the transmission twice in an attempt to correct the failure but to no avail and the failure would recur within six months following repairs. The manufacturer was contacted who advised that it would be left up to the dealer to repair the failure and offered no further assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage 81,850.
I have had multiple occurrences where the vehicle will stall at 50-60mph. All of sudden I just lose power and my sensor lights come on in the dash. I have to attempt to pull over without any steering and turn the vehicle off and turn it back on, this usually works but recently this happened and when I went to start the vehicle the check engine light stayed on and it did the same thing after driving about 100 more feet and would die out after about 3 attempts and I could not get the vehicle started, I let it sit for about 10 minutes and then it restarted and I drove it approximately 12 miles with the check engine light on, without any problems before driving it into the shop. It has now been into the shop twice for the problem, it has happened more times than I have taken it into be fixed because I was told to keep driving it until it happened again. After the first time of being apparently fixed it a few days after it was fixed and they ran a test on it and said it should be fine and to keep driving it. It then did it about 3 weeks later and I brought it into the shop again, this s when the check engine light stayed on.
2008 Jeep Wrangler 6-speed. The transmission and engine rattle and shake on a constant basis. It is worse on bumps and rough roads. Took it to dealer twice, Chrysler rep looked at it and said there is no replacement parts. They said all Wranglers do this so there is nothing I can do about it. Called Chrysler hot line to register a complaint. They said they would look into it and call me. They've never called. I believe this condition interfers with normal driving and is very dangerous when using 4 wheel drive in off road conditions. I think they said they all do this is so there is no diminished value so I can't use the lemon law. The dealer has been very cooperative but he's limited to what the factory tells him to do. This started at 2,000 miles and now have 4,000 miles.
