6 speed manual transmission jumps out of 1st gear when driving.
Transmission violently shifts out of 1st gear while starting from a dead stop (stop light, intersection, etc) this is extremely dangerous and someone is likely to get hurt or killed when this causes the vehicle to stall. This is a well documented issue and has been affecting Jeep owners for years. Why hasn"t Jeep done a recall on this very dangerous issue??? this happens at least twice a day if not more. Some owners have it happen every time.
While turning right from a stop sign on to a major highway with 55 mile an hour speed limit I began to merge into traffic when suddenly the transmission jumped out of first gear causing a loud banging and shiftier violently jumping backwards out of my hand and causing my Jeep to stop accelerating only a few feet from the stop sign and into traffic. I was able to quickly get the transmission back into first gear and merge without incident. This problem was intermittent for almost 6 months and never could I get it to happen when I brought it in to get serviced for this problem. The more I drove the Jeep the more often the problem would occur, until December of 2018 when it would jump out of gear almost every time I started from a dead stop. It was impossible to drive anywhere without being nervous that the next time I tried to start from a dead stop I would either be broadsided or rear ended because of the sudden loss of power. I understand that Jeep has issued a technical bulletin for this problem but I have waited for parts specifically for this repair for several weeks and possibly will be in in about 10 more days according to the service advisor. I have owned several manual transmission vehicles all of them for over 200,000 miles each have never had problems with internal gears and synchronizers. The Jeep has been serviced and is well taken care of not used for towing or any other heavy loading. I don't believe I have done anything out of the ordinary to cause this problem, I do believe that Jeep has a problem with this transmission and is not taking responsibility to repair them. Thanks. . . . .
When accelerating from a stop in a 6-speed manual transmision, the Jeep will at times jump out of gear with a violent jerk and loud sound. This could cause the driver to react or a vehicle behind to rear end the now not moving vehicle while the Jeep driver recovers.
My Jeep has been jumping out of gear. In traffic, driving in 1st gear, at about 5-10 mph, flat terrain in a straight direction, it jumps out of gear. My Jeep has jumped out of gear in intersections when I am starting from a stop, flat terrain, going straight or turning, it will jump out of first as I am accelerating, I have had several instances where I was almost rear ended. When stopping at a sign or red light, as I start in 1st gear it will aggressively jump out of gear causing me to roll back when on a hill, where I have almost run into the vehicle behind me. There is a service bulletin issued by mopar " number: 21-001-10 rev. A group: transmission date: April 20, 2010" I took my Jeep to have the gear fixed on 04/16/2018 the parts were on back order, not arriving to the dealership until 05/10/2018 and it was finished on 05/18/2018. I am convinced the back order of my parts is due to the fact that this is happening to many other Jeep owners. The dealer found my 1st gear synchronizer was damaged and replaced it.
The Jeep jumps out of gear without any warning almost causing a accident with the car behind me!.
In December, my manual transmission 2008 Jeep Wrangler began jumping out of first gear when accelerating from a stop. The chances of this happening increase with higher rpms, so a quick acceleration or accelerating up a hill make it worse. It's incredibly dangerous as it usually puts me close to a stop as I'm trying to accelerate from a stop sign or when a traffic light turns green. Potential for rear-ending is high.
While beginning to accelerate from a complete stop, the vehicle violently shifted out of first gear and into neutral. The event is so violent that the first time this happened I thought someone had hit me from behind. The problem is happening with increased frequency, and now happens about once per week.
The transmission jumps out of first gear when accelerating. If manually held into first gear with some pressure, it does not jump out.
The vehicle jumps out of first gear when starting from a full stop. The stick shift violently jumps back into neutral and occurs unpredictably. It is extremely dangerous when this happens when I'm turning into traffic (risk of being t-boned) or else from dead stops when somebody is behind me (risk of being rear-ended).

It is extremely dangerous when this happens when I'm turning into traffic (risk of being t-boned) or else from dead stops when somebody is behind me (risk of being rear-ended). I have even helt the stickshift in first gear when starting from a dead stop and it has jumped out hurting my wrist.
2008 Jeep Wrangler. Consumer writes in regards to mechanical problems and brake line routing defect the consumer stated the first problem he had with the vehicle was the transmission. It began failing to engage and shifting out of gear. The dealer discovered that the transmission oil filter had not been installed and was lying on the bottom of the transmission oil pan. In January 2011, while driving at highway speeds, the consumer began to experience intermittent violent shaking of the entire vehicle, which seemed to be originating from the front end. The consumer stated it felt as though a wheel was loose. The consumer went to a repair shop, where the tie rod and pitman were replaced. Two weeks later, the shaking occurred again and soon it became increasingly violent ,making it nearly impossible to control the vehicle and stay in his lane. The consumer returned to the repair shop where they replaced the steering damper, which seemed to correct the problem for awhile. In July, the consumer took the vehicle for a routine maintenance check. While checking the front end, the mechanic was able to get two full turns on a nut on the track bar. Since then, the shaking has not occurred. The consumer stated as he approached a line of vehicles stopped at a light, he attempted to apply the brake, but it went soft and to the floor. An inspection revealed a hole in the brake line above the right front wheel, where the line left the wheel well and went into the engine compartment. The hole was caused by rubbing on the line by the edge of the plastic wheel well lining.
My Jeep has jumped out of 1st gear from a start of roll unlimited times causing at times near to fatal crashes because of this. I have contacted Chrysler representatives and dealership service managers numerous times and all will not fix due to powertrain coverage is non-transferrable and they claim this is not a Jeep problem. There is numerous forums and discussions with other Jeep owners who claim the same problem yet Jeep will not fix. Please help.
Transmission jumps out of 1st gear. Started doing it once or twice a month back in June. Now does it 5 or 6 times a day in January. I live in florida, so cold weather is not the issue. I removed the outer boot so I could watch the inner boot. Still happens but I see no difference in how the inner boot moves weather it pops out or not. Finally felt I should complain when I almost could not get out of the way of a fire truck that was trying to get past me at a stop light. It popped out 4 times so I had to use 2nd gear to move over. I have to wait for large openings in traffic to pull out or cross multi lane roads because I'm not sure I'll make it in one shot. I usually have to do a slow 2nd gear take off.
2008 Jeep Wrangler. Manual transmission jumps out of gear from 1st to 2nd gear, happens at least once a week, loud popping noise, no TSB from chysler Jeep.
I have a 2008 Jeep Wrangler unlimited 4 door and the manual transmission repeatedly jumps out of first gear. It has happened to me when entering highways and I have had near accidents as a result. Jeep dealer claims there is no TSB for this problem.
2008 Jeep Wrangler 6 speed manual transmission that pops out of first gear. Started popping out in September of 10' when I was starting to drive after stopping for a red light and went to turn left and it popped out of first with a loud bang, its happened almost every time I drive my car multiple times to the point where I am scared to drive it. I had it looked at multiple times at my dealership and they said they couldn't find the problem, finally in January of 2011 when I told them about the 1000 or other complaints I had read the re-looked at the vehicle and they put in a new shifter boot, the day I picked the car up from the dealership it started jumping out of gear again, my car has no been in the shop for 3 weeks. They are putting in a rebuilt transmission.
TSB 21-001-10 was issued on 03/2/2010 "manual transmission may intermittently jump out of first gear" they know they have a problem with it and since my dealer cannot "duplicate" this situation they will not do anything about it even with my lifetime warranty. Pulling out into traffic and having your shifter popping out of gear while some body is barreling down on you is awesome. I feel so safe.
08 Jeep Wrangler rubicon 6 speed transmission. When starting out in first gear the transmission will violently jump back and out of first gear. Took it into the dealer 6+ times to have them look at it. It did happen to a service tech and they replaced the transmission. The new transmission started doing the same thing 5 miles from the dealer. Took back again. The dealer responce was it was driver error. Went to another dealer. That manager says that brand new Jeeps with 6 speed transmissions jump out of gear. This is very dangerous as it is first gear and you are pulling into traffic when it happens, you have to then shift very quickly into second to get the vehicle moving again. . Read more...
Stock Jeep 2008 Wrangler x 29,000 miles has j. O. G. Violently jumps out of gear when accelerating in first gear. Swear you were rear ended by a car the first time it happens. Expect to find the whole transmission is laying on the street. Jeep claims is a soft boot problem and then if that doesn't fix it they replace the whole transmission. The condition is very dangerous trying to make a yielding turn on green. I have narrowly avoided getting t-boned when I had transmission failure in the middle of a 5 lane road. Have almost been rear ended several time at a green light because it will accelerate normally for a second and then violently pop out of gear bringing the Jeep to a halt. Gear shift popped out and jammed my middle finger on my hand so bad it still hurts 3 weeks later. Started happening after my death wobble experience at 29000 miles. Looking around this is a problem with 6 speed manual since the new model came out in 2007. Engineering flaw. Tranny should never pop out of gear under load unless there is a transmission failure. Jeep claims the tranny is fine and install a new soft boot. Thanks Jeep/Chrysler.
My 2008 Jeep rubicon has been jumping out of 1st gear when entering intersections etc. . . Since it was new. After 10 months of complaining to the dealership and over 1 dozen near misses at intersections (I stopped alowing my kids to even drive in this vehicle after the first incident where we were almost broadsided by a truck) a technical service bulletin was issued by Chrysler where if someone complained they would change a synchronizer assembly. There are many many others complaining about the same issue and Chrysler has chosen to put others at risk as the issue is still not fixed on new vehicles but requires the TSB to be performed to remedy (maybe it fixes it but I am still not convinced). I know this as I asked for a new transmission and was told by Chrysler that even new transmissions have this issue. Someone is going to get killed (or perhaps there are already fatalities) if there is not a total recall to fix this dangerous safety issue.
During mild acceleration from a full stop, in first gear, the manual transmission jumped out of first gear into neutral. A very loud and jarring clang occurred simultaneously with the incident. During the next three years this was a rare and consistent occurrence. As of the summer of 2012 this has become a daily occurrence. This creates a dangerous situation where vehicle drivers behind me may assume that the forward motion of my vehicle will continue and accelerate where in reality the acceleration of my vehicle comes to an abrupt halt and the vehicle speed decreases until I am able to re-engage the transmission.
The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that the transmission slipped out of gear independently. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The transmission was rebuilt several months later yet the failure recurred. The transmission was rebuilt a second time but again, to no avail. The manufacturer was made aware of the recurring failure. The vehicle was not further repaired. The failure mileage was 30,000 and the current mileage was 120,000. Updated 07/2/lj.
