5 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2019

When refueling, the gas does not shut off and spills out of the tank until user shuts off. This happens each time you refuel and you are unable to fill up to shut off. I have spilled gasoline, on vehicle, clothing, ground, gas pump, etc. This is a pretty serious issue and I could not find a recall. I don't think this should be ignored. I had to add a date below, just the latest time it has been an issue. It has occurred multiple times to myself and my spouse.

6 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2018

Crack in gas tank - the check engine light illuminated yesterday when I started the vehicle. I took my vehicle to my mechanic. There is a crack in the top of the gas tank. My mechanic said that after research in trying to get a new gas tank, he found that this is an issue. Mopar has a significant backorder for these tanks. This is definitely a safety issue and I hope it will be looked into.

When fueling the gas tank, gas will spew out in large volumes before the gas pump habdle deactivate allowing gas to spill over the side of Jeep and on to the ground. It happens at multiple gas stations and multiple pumps. Problem is with Jeep, not the gas pump handle. Simple google search reveals a miriad of the same problem. Vehicle is stationary. 11 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2018

Every time I fill my gas tank I have gasoline spray back and overfill pouring out from the gas tank. The gas spills all over myself, my Jeep and the ground. Happens every time regardless of where I fill up.

12 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/06/2017

In July 2017, vehicle did not pass emission requirements at state inspection. Upon investigation, determination was made that a plastic hose connection on top of tank had broken and that entire tank needed to be replaced. Replacement availability was not a problem - over 100 in stock locally (really? this must be a recurring problem!) replacement cost, parts & labor - $1200. ) first replacement had same problem and was replaced immediately at no cost. Second replacement has now developed same issue & and now, after approximately 6+ months must be replaced again. It should be noted that there hasn't been any accident, or trauma of any kind to vehicle. Although replacement cost is not to be ignored, it is my contention that this obvious design flaw creates a significant safety hazard. In the event of a rollover, gasoline would free-flow from the tank onto the muffler.

19 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2015

Every time I put gas in Jeep it back- flows all over the place. Not only does it ruin the paint but it's a safety hazard splashing all over my clothes and once sprayed on my neck. A little higher it would have gotten on my face. I hear it might be the butterfly not closing so it doesn't know you tank is full or close to being full. Should be any easy recall so why isn't it ??? very unsafe please have this fixed!!.

20 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2015

The gas tank overflows every time the fuel tank is filled up. It has happened on multiple different pumps and every time when the tank is filled full. The gas shoots out onto the car and could possibly get on the person fueling the automobile as well.

21 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2014

Whenever I go to the gas station to fill up with gas, one of two things happens; either it doesn't automatically cutoff and gas spills out onto my fender/wheel, or it does the opposite. . . . Continues to click off over and over and over again and I am unable to fill my tank. I have tried getting gas at several different stations now, and it does it at all of them.

22 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2014

When I go to gas station and fill up my Jeep gas overflows out the tank fill tube after pump shuts off. At first it only happened occasionally with minimal spillage. Now it happens every time I fill up!!!! it makes a giant mess all over the fender, bumper, and the ground and me!!!! I have tried multiple gas stations, different settings on the nozzle(slow, med, fast). I have stood there and pumped by hand pushing nozzle firmly against filler tube to help prevent the fuel blow back. Nothing works!!! the filler tube or gas tank is defective!!!! this wastes gas every time I fill up,costing me money!! its ruining the finish on my bumper, fender, and mud flap. Most importantly its gasoline running all over the place including me!!!! can you say fire hazard!!! this should be recalled by Jeep and fixed ASAP!!!.

Failure Date: 12/01/2013

My gas tank overflows at the pump every time I re-fuel. The pump will shut off when full, then shortly after, overflow spills out onto the ground. The only way to prevent this issue is to guess when it is getting close to full and stop the pump before it is full.

Fuel spilling out of the gas tank. Also on occasion fuel will not pump at all. Automatic shut off keeps engaging.

28 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2013

Every single time I fill up the fuel tank, fuel spills out (spits out all over the back driver's side panel). This has been a problem since I've purchased the Jeep. I have to manually calculate how many gallons to put in every time I go to the gas pump. I've tried several different gas stations and pumps along with several different strategies of holding the gas pump and regardless the spills still happen when attempting to fill the tank full with gas. I've searched online for recalls relating to this and they appear to be out there for this problem but not for 2011 model Jeep Wrangler. I've contacted the dealership, but have been told that they will not cover the cost to replace the fuel tank, since it has not been recalled. It appears the only fix for this is to replace the fuel tank, but I feel like if it's a known problem with Jeep Wranglers, I should not have to come out of pocket for the fix. I'm not really sure who to go to from here for a resolution.

29 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2013

The gas always spills over from the gas tank after I put fuel in the tank. It doesn't matter if I put a few gallons in the tank or fill it full. It spills gas all over my Jeep and on the ground.

Purchased this Jeep used last month. Filled the Jeep with gas. The gas poured out of the gas tank down the Jeep and all over the ground. It happened again today. The gas is a pollutant. The gas is dangerous. I have never seen anything like this happen before.

31 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2011

The contact owns a 2011 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that the driver was driving approximately 55 mph when various drivers alerted him to stop the vehicle. The contact maneuvered to the shoulder and stopped the vehicle. The contact then noticed that both rear wheel wells were on fire. The fire department appeared on the scene to extinguish the fire. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer and no assistance was provided. The vehicle was then towed to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that grass was wedged between the fuel tank and body of the vehicle. As a result, the grass caught on fire. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 3,200.
