2 Front Seat Recliner problem of the 2017 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/18/2017

At about 4,433 miles, my passenger complained that the front passenger seat would not recline. I inspected both driver and passenger front recliners, and found broken plastic pieces underneath both the driver and passenger inboard recliners. The dealership inspected and replaced both driver and passenger seatbacks. At about 8,052 miles, the passenger seat inboard recliner failed again. The dealership inspected and replaced the passenger seatback. At about 20,000 miles, the driver inboard recliner failed again. To date, the dealership has not replaced the fourth failed recliner. I have provided fca written notice of these failures. Since four seat recliners have failed within the first 20,000 miles, I am concerned that a design, material, or workmanship defect exists. I am also very concerned how these failed seat recliners will perform in a crash. Upon research, it appears that others have had multiple failures with these specific model year seat recliners as well. See NHTSA id number 11074326.

Failure Date: 11/09/2006

The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that the rear passenger seat only has approximately four inches of space for an occupant. When the seat is reclined forward for a passenger to get in or out of the front passenger seats, the front seat falls back on the passenger. She also stated that while attempting to get in or out of the rear passenger seats, the passenger becomes tangled in the seat belt. The contact has a video recording of passengers attempting to get in and out of her vehicle. She stated that the vehicle should be recalled because it has a design flaw. The current mileage was 19,160 and failure mileage was 19,160.
