1 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2015 Kia Motor Optima

Failure Date: 06/24/2020

I was driving and out of nowhere the car started to bog down and the check engine light came on. It continued to do it every few seconds and was getting worse the whole way to the shop, which was the closest one I could find as soon as it started doing it. The shop ran the error code and got a knock sensor error. I had kia come pick it up and take it to the shop. The shop performed a bearing clearance check and the vehicle did not pass so they replaced the engine and intake manifold due to "catastrophic failure". While replacing the engine they found the turbo had play and so they installed a new turbo assembly. After engine replacement they found the starter seized, they replaced the starter. After engine replacement they performed the ecu update and reset adaptive values, then performed wiring signal interference check which started ok. Immediately after getting the vehicle back from the shop I noticed a loud noise coming from front driver wheel area. Shop ended up replacing caliper and wheel bearings along with needing an alignment. All happened around 58k miles. Luckily still under warranty. Shop said it was just a bad engine. Nothing I could of done could of caused it.

2 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2004 Kia Motor Optima

Failure Date: 03/28/2015

Almost died in an accident tate kia did not allow me to leave the through my door. I was hit one my passenger side not allowing my escape through that side of the vehicle and I needed to crawl through to the back of the vehicle to escape. My drivers side door lock malfunctioned because of wear on a commonly know part. This should not be considered normal wear and tear considering my 1967 camero still has functioning locks and 50 yrs older. I see not reason as to why a 11 yr old vehicle has non functioning locking equipment and I have owned various other cars without a problem like this malfunction that seems only too obvious of an american safety concern. This seems like a mandatory recall for such an important function of a vehicle to be able to even "get in" or "get out" of the car. Simple concept! won't even be able to operate the vehicle if I can't get in it or sleep in my apartment if I can't get out of it. Huh? the web is full of these complaints and near life diasters because of this malfunction. Seems like this is a problem that people want resolution including myself! if there are so many people aware of this problem online and they have regular jobs no slated to the task of highway safety. How is it that your agency slated with the task of this important job has not done anything to fix this problem. This issue has now span several years of these vehicles and various models. Seems to me that someone, referring to your agency is not doing their job very well at all and needs to wake up concerning this issue with the kia manufacturer to fix this very dangerous problem. Get to its boys and girls and get this done, because families depend on you to do the right thing for our well being. Scenerio: car starts on fire. . . . . . . Can't open door. . . . Dead. . . . . . . A duh!!!!!!!! make sense? yeah! good! they have created a death trap. Fix it!!!!!!.

3 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Optima

Failure Date: 10/02/2013

I have noticed over twenty times that the trunk would open by itself. It would be found open after I get to my car or while driving it would just open up on its own. Last month my trunk, was shut, doors locked, we had a heavy rain that night and the next day I went out, and the trunk was open up all the way. The trunk flap was soaking wet and under it, there was a foot of water and kia does not give you a tire when you buy a new one. It cost me $80. 00 to get everything dried out and water removed. There is a problem with the trunk opening and the kia dealer said that they could do nothing could be, done with it or the key that opens it told me. Kia said they could not fix the frequency for the keys and there are two people, which have different cars that their key will open my trunk doors and even turn on my lights. The trunk can be shut and you driving down the road at 55 mph and it will open up and block your view and it could cause a wreck if you are changing lanes.

6 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2004 Kia Motor Optima

Failure Date: 03/01/2013

Drivers side locking and not releasing. Numerous incidents where the drivers side door locks and will not release. (using the key on the outside or the pad on the inside door) I have repeatedly had to climb out the back door because the plastic pieces that were used when making the car are worn out and not allowing the lock to unlock. If there was an accident I would not be able to get out on the drivers side. I believe this is a manufactures defect. I am hoping that a recall or a silent recall will be issued for this since I am not able to open the door to get the door panel off to fix it.

7 Adaptive Equipment problem of the 2005 Kia Motor Optima

Failure Date: 06/16/2010

Doors, locks, linkage, upon leaving work on June 16th, 2010, I went to unlock the driver's side door using the key and the car door would not open. I opened the car from the passenger side and crawled over to try to open the driver's side door from the inside, no luck. The driver side door has not and will not open from either side. Huge safety hazard!!! no luck with kia fixing it either!!!.
