During a commute to worksite the car was driving normally for the first 10 miles. No sounds, no dash lights illuminated. No signal that anything was wrong. As I drove normally through the route, I entered the highway and accelerated to nearly 65 mph. After a moment or so of driving the car suddenly felt as if the engine had no power. I pulled my foot off the gas, then I checked the dash lights, I made sure the vehicle was in the proper automatics mode and not manual (it felt like it was thrown into neutral or a lower gear), I also verified cruise control was off. Everything seemed fine. I pressed the gas to accelerate back up to speed and the car began shaking very vigorously. Then the engine light came on. Because I was not in a safe area to stop, I tried to coast to the nearest exit. I imagine I was coasting and accelerating intermittently (for only a few seconds at a time) for anywhere from one-half to two miles before the next exit. It is hard to guess the distance because it was dark during the incident. Once I made it to the exit, the engine was no longer providing power at all - meaning I would press the gas and nothing would happen. The car would not move, the engine would not even rev. I called a tow truck and had it towed to the dealership. The dealer said that because the car did not have a code of p1326 that the issue was not covered under kia's extended engine warranty. I am trying to fight for them to honor the warranty. No luck so far. They quoted a $7500 repair. Car is perfectly maintained. I just put new spark plus and a new serpentine belt on 9 weeks ago (at the kia dealership of course- only place I do maintenance at).

The first thing my vehicle said was to check the hybrid system and it would not drive or reverse, but the steering and brakes never stopped working. Had to push it out of the street manually. Now my car is starting to put in park, shut off and charge the battery. I just replaced the main battery less than 2 weeks ago so I know that cannot be the issue. My kia manual says nothing about this issue and o cannot find a solution online to this problem.

I have a theta ii turbocharged engine 6 speed manual and I was driving down the street taking my son to work. All of a sudden my car started making a loud knocking noise and wouldn't go past 2nd gear. We called a tow truck had it sent to mechanic they did a diagnostic test and 2 p codes came back from crankshaft and controls and seized engine. So I had it towed into weston kia dealership. Plus I had just bought this car in April. The dealership ship called me saying they were going to replace my engine and wiring and computer and sensor chip. Also my passenger air bag light has been blinking off 3 days after I bought it and still is. My emergency brake doesn't work and rolled while it was pulled up in neutral and hit my daughter as she was running around the front of the car to the passenger side right in her knee cap. I got my car back from weston and it didn't feel right. Someone put 380miles on my car it had a 1/2tank of gas and my clutch and clutch pedal and gear shift was way shorter and 1/4 inch off in shifter box. I was on the freeway driving 60 mph with my kids and we were leaving my parents house from xmas. All of a sudden I almost list control of the car my clutch pedal fell to the floor. I got us to safety almost avoiding a huge wreck and had it towed to my house. Called dealership and told them and had noticed on invoice their technicians had tightened up by bolts and flywheel. Well I go outside and theirs fluid all over the pavement under the car but none on inside. They paid for a tow truck and by the way since replacing the new engine I went from 34 miles to the gallon to 20 and passenger air bag still illuminated off. My defrost isnt working now and my engine light blinked 3xs. They want me to pay 1500 for new clutch. Their tech adjusted my flywheel bolts and clutch cable. 65. 00 emergency brake and 125. 00 for test. It already had one. Fuel leak?.

My drivers side door automatic locks lock and even after manually unlocking them I am unable to open the door. Have to enter and exit the vehicle through passenger door. Many other kia Optima owners online have the same issue. This poses a serious safety risk if I can't exit the vehicle in an emergency. Please force kia to make this right!.

Power door lock locks when unlocking from outside with key. Replaced the door latch. But it still does it. Also the headlights stay on when turning off the car. Have to manually turn off headlight switch.
Door lock will not unlock thus door will not open. Door lock will not unlock with the key on either door nor the automatic or manual door lock. This has resulted in having to exit the vehicle from the passenger door. This is sporadic and not on a regular basis. Upon searching the internet this is a very common problem across the kia brand effecting numerous models and years. My main concern is under an emergency, there is no quick/safe way to exit the vehicle.

During the second oil change at the dealership, I indicated that the vehicle's exhaust was very strong and was coming into the vehicle both at speed and while sitting. The service technician stated that the vehicle needed to have only premium fuel in it to stop the issue. The owners manual does not state that this is the case but in order to prevent the strong exhaust, we switched to only use premium fuel which prevented the majority of the strong fumes but not all. In getting the vehicle's third oil change, the oil was extremely dirty and the service technician stated that he had seen no reason why a vehicle of such low mileage should have oil anywhere near the condition that it did.
The problem with this make and model of car is with the door locking mechanism. It started in April with a problem with the drivers side front door. When you unlocked the doors with the key fob, all the doors would unlock, but when you grabbed the handle of the door to open it, all the doors to the car would lock. It cost me $350. 00 to get that fixed. Now the passenger side front door will not unlock, either from the inside or out. The key fob won't unlock it, nor manually using a key. This is a serious defect that I think kia should be fixing. What if someone was unable to get out of the car in a serious wreck, and was killed, or seriously injured? I talked to the kia dealership, but they are not interested, because my warranty period is over.

The driver's door will not unlock or open from the inside or outside. I have tried using the key, the electric locks from the inside and also manually. After researching this defect on the internet, it seems this happens a lot to kia's around this year of car. This is a safety hazard as the driver is not able to get out of or into the car if there is an emergency. A door lock of this year of car should not fail this often or at all. I have much older vehicles that have never had a problem with not being able to get out of a vehicle.
Our vehicle started only unlocking the 3 passenger side doors, when using the keyfob to unlock. The drivers door will stay locked and you have to manually unlock vehicle with key. Now 2 of our other doors(both rear) dont unlock. All the doors do not lock with the keyfob and when we push the lock button inside the vehicle. We have to manually lock/unlock the doors, which is a pain in the butt when you have small children!.

When trying to exit my kia, the door locks would not unlock. I tried the manual and electrical switches on the door and all I could get was a click, and then an immediate re-lock of the doors, as soon as I pulled on the door handle. I then rolled the window down and tried the key, several times, from the outside with the same results. I managed to work my 79 year old 210 lb. Body over to the passenger seat and tried the same thing and got the same results. I was ready to call 911 when I tried the key on the outside again for the 5th or 6th time and the locks worked. This is a dangerous situation and I understand is quite common on the kia's at about 100,000 miles, I know I was frightened. I don't know what would happen in a wreck with a fire and the doors would not unlock from the inside or outside. This has happened 4 times, twice while locked inside and twice from the outside tying to get in.
Driver's door does not unlock when trying to enter the car and it does not unlock from the inside manually either.
The drivers side door lock will not unlock with the electrical button or manually. The lock only opens half way - pull handle to open - door automatically locks. Can't open door with key from outside. Must enter in passenger side door and climb over. Big danger as driving with children in the car. *t.
I cannot enter and exit my car safely anymore. The drivers side door lock will not unlock with key fob or by key manually. I was in a hurry at one point to exit to retrieve my child who had exited the car and was heading into traffic at a parking lot and I could not get out of the car. I had to exit from the passenger side. The door works in rare instances, but is not reliable or dependable. This is my only mode of transportation and I have owned the vehicle since new. However, I no longer feel safe should I have an emergency, I may not be able to enter or exit the car as needed.

It is a well-known issue with kia Optima cars that the door latch is faulty, and after various lengths of time, it will stop unlocking. By no longer unlocking, I mean under any condition. Using a remote, using the key, even sitting in the vehicle pressing the button on the door or manually moving the indicator by the handle. This is a severe safety issue. In the event of a wreck or other emergency situation, it is impossible to exit the driver's side door on my kia Optima. No matter what you attempt, the door will not open. When you unlock it using any of the aforementioned methods, the car will automatically re-lock the door as soon as you touch the handle, either interior or exterior. While I can understand normal wear and tear eating away at the component, there is absolutely no reason for the car to default to the lock position in the case of such wear and tear. A simple solution would be to have the latch default to the open position, which will allow persons to exit the vehicle in case of emergency. If this has not already cost individuals their life, I am sure it is only a matter of time. This needs to be corrected immediately, before it costs me my family.
Doors (all) will lock after unlocking when you're trying to get in. I unlock the door, either manually or with the key fob, when you pull the handle to open the door the doors lock. You can play with it and finally get in but I've heard alot of problems with the same thing on the same model.
Kia Optima door lock is faulty, will not unlock and only way to get door open is to use a slim jim (if your lucky) or break open door panel and open manually by pulling on locking mechanism. Faulty part is a small plastic part in the mechanism. This a very common problem on many kia models.
The contact owns a 2007 kia Optima. The contact was concerned because an owners manual was not included with the vehicle when he purchased it used. When he called the manufacturer, he was informed that the only way to get it was to download the six hundred pages and print it. The contact felt that the lack of the manual was a safety issue because he could not learn how the car operated and possible safety defects.
