37 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2004 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 01/29/2005

We were going east on a county road(219th), at about 40 mph. The passengers front tire crossed the white line and slipped into the ditch. Van continued east into a telephone pole, breaking it in 3 pieces. The van then slide sideways and came to rest southbound after hitting a tree. After van came to rest and the driver checked family's safety, it was then discovered that the air bags on both sides had not deployed and that the auto lock feature of the seat belts had not engaged either. We were assisted from the van and contacted the police. Van was towed to wrecking yard (not drivable). Notified kia service manager of failures and he told me to contact kia. He gave us the number and said we need to contact them ASAP and they will contact him. Kia took our information and told us to send pictures and a legible copy of accident to the main office in CA.

39 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2002 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 08/11/2004

We own a 2002 kia Sedona minivan. We bought it new in October of 2002. Since 04/03 we have had to return the car for airbag/seatbelt fault indications four times. In every case the front seat belt buckle sensors have been found to be defective. The dealer mechanic has told us that the air bags would not deploy with this fault indication. With each failure they have had to wait for back ordered parts, and the mechanic says this is a common fault with theses cars. Since they are always waiting for parts to repair this defect, it leads me to believe that there is indeed a widespread problem of this nature. In researchuing past problems on your web site iit seems that air bag/ seatbelt problems are a recurrent kia defect. This is an apparant engineering design defect that puts owners of these vehicles at serious risk. Seatbelts and air bags are a federally mandated safety feature that consumers should have confidence that they will work when needed. Our car is now past it's milage warrenty and now kia insists that we pay for the reoccuring repairs to this important safety system. Consumers should not have to subsidise kia's failure prone system.

40 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2003 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 07/14/2004

In July 2004 a person ran a stop sign, I completely drove into her whole passengers side with the front end of my 2003 kia Sedona. I also had my 2 year old son in the car at the time. The air bags did not deploy which was a concern to the emergency personnel that responded to the scene. I sustained neck injury that later had to have surgery to correct and my son who was in his safety seat in the rear also sustained burn injury from his safety seat harness. I contacted kia after the accident and was told that there was no way to test the air bags unless they deployed them. Needless to say they would not do this. Again in August 2005 another driver ran a stop sign and again I hit them with full front end to their drivers side. Again the air bags did not deploy causing concern with the emergency personnel. I still continue to have pain from my 2004 accident and I am still in the process of trying to recoup some of my losses. (wages, medical, time with my son). I can't even begin to list the loss I have that will never be recouped. Someone needs to check into this, it seems to me after reading all these complaints about the air bags that something is wrong. I have all the police reports, estimates and pictures.

The front end was completely damaged and the driver air bag never fully deployed and the passenger air bag did not deploy at all. The contact sustained injuries to her wrist, chest, and has bruises all over her body. She believes that due to the severity of the crash, the air bags should have deployed. The current and failure mileages were 11,883. Updated 12/02/08. Updated 12/03/08.
