2 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 11/03/2019

Vehicle keeps losing all power while driving. This last time it happened when I was turning onto a busy street! the first time the mechanic replaced the alternator. That lasted 3 days. The mechanic thought it was a defective part so he replaced it. That lasted another three days until we lost all power again. This time the mechanic did some more research and replaced the instrument cluster along with a third alternator. The van ran for two days this time. As of writing this my vehicle has been in the shop for two weeks. The mechanic has told me that with the research he has done, this is a common issue with kia and nobody seems to have a solid answer as to what to do to fix the problem. I was told that some vehicles are fine for weeks others for months and then the van dies without warning. Please help! I need a reliable vehicle. Thank you. Also, when I say the vehicle loses power I mean all power, no lights, no instrument panel, no gauges, no idiot lights, no windows, no shifting of tranny. It will go 2 or 3 mph down the road.

3 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 07/07/2019

Fuses keep burning out. And cause car to stop or turn off in the middle of driving. I went to test my alternator and battery and both were good. I was driving on 29 north headed toward lynchburg. Va and driving 70mph and the radio turned off lights turned off and I quickly pulled over. Turned off the van, waited a couple of minutes tried to turn it on and it wouldn't turn on. After waiting for a tow truck (almost 2 hours) we got hometested the battery and alternator. Auto advance told me both were good. Every fuse in the fuse box was burned out. A wire under the alternator was burned out.

4 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 06/23/2019

After running my van for a bit I shut it off and when I come back out to start it it won't start so I looked it up before and I was told to remove my memory fuse and return it back so I did that for a few months now I have to release the alternator fuse for a bit and wait like 5 mins and then push it back in and then van will start. But lately it's getting where it doesn't work at all removeing any of the fuses . If I let the van set a few days then try to start it then it will start but it will do it all over again and leaves me sitting where ever im at with it with no way of getting it started . . I've had garages tell me it in my fuse panel or wires in the fuse box under dash but cant get noone to touch it . It's a really nice van beside this issue I would really like it fixed without costing me an arm or leg in labor and cost . I've had some tell me its a factory issue cause I've talk to ppl that have the same van and they have issue also . Please someone tell me what to do or if it's a recall then tell me so I can get mine fixed please . . Thanks.

5 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 03/17/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2006 kia Sedona. While driving approximately 70 mph, the battery, brake, and abs warning indicators illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the alternator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred several months later. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 132,000.

6 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2016 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 03/08/2019

A few months back I started having issues with the charging system. I was being told it was the alternator. I replaced the alternator twice and battery twice. My vehicle is now in the shop and they are telling me it's the pcm computer. They got a pcm and replaced it charged and worked fine right after but the next day it continued to have charging issues. There having to re order another new pcm. There is a major problem with my car. We are fixing the problems that are showing up as being wrong and it is not working. This should be a recall issue. . There's more going on here. Exatremly unhappy being this car is only 3 years old (problem started in January).

7 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2009 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 11/04/2018

This is the second time the alternator is being replaced since 09/19/17. Engine oil leaks from the front cylinder bank's valve cover gasket. Oil drips onto the alternator, the alternator is then oil soaked & damaged resulting in the charging system becoming inoperative. The charging system warning lamp in the cluster will then illuminate. The vehicle will run on battery power until the battery voltage drops below the engine control module's minimum operational voltage. The engine shuts off and not restart, increasing the risk of a crash. This engine is manufactured by Hyundai & is the same engine design as the 2007-2012 Hyundai veracruz, which has a recall campaign #121 for this exact issue. Kia needs to implement a recall for this!.

8 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 09/06/2018

Last September 6th, 2018, Sedona was almost caught fire while driver was with her children. Onwer saw a huge smoke after she looked at dashboard tempature guage that reached overheat, quickly parked, turned it off, and opened the hood. She smelled strong burned. Mechanic took a look at engine and found a lot of motor oil that was leaking through the head gasket and spilling over onto exhaust pipe under engine block. Oil spilling onto exhaust pipe could cause fire. Response of mechanic diagnosis, original alternator was at fault for stopping generate power supply to the radiator fan assembly. Then radiator fan assembly stopped operating, resulting in engine overheat to break the head gasket, leaking a lot of motor oil. Following overheat issue, transmission was also affected. Mechanic noticed that alarm was not built in for coolant fluid level low after half low in radiator found. Why was not a coolant fluid level low alarm built in before first time vehicle was sold? without a coolant fluid level low alarm could lead vehicle into fire.

9 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 06/02/2018

The alternator on my 2006 kia Sedona has been replaced at least 4 times but I believe 5 times (I am looking for 2 more receipts). The latest 3 replacements are: mileage 104472 date 6/2/2018; mileage 95255 date 3/23/16; mileage 70121 date 2/28/2011. Also had van at dealer and other repair shops to check alternator, electrical problems, battery, etc. Some of the dates that it was at the kia dealer or other repair for dimming lights, headlights dimming, are 2/12/2007 (15957 miles); 7/24/2008 (38853 miles); 11/24/2008 (43470 miles); 4/21/2009 (48936 miles); 3/14/2016 (94429). I have broken down twice due to alternator while out of town; one time in alabama, and last weekend in osage beach mo. Both times I had to have alternator replaced. Both caused a lot of stress because I had my kids with me and in alabama we were in the middle of no where. There is a problem with this vehicle since an alternator should not need to be replaced so many times. I have been complaining about this vehicle since almost day one about something strange with the electrical system. You can review the dealers records regarding this. Perhaps kia should consider a potential recall or different alternator.

10 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 03/26/2016

Oil leaks from valve cover gasket and timing cover gasket cause oil to drop on the alternator. This oil residue causes the alternator to stop working and in turn the battery dies. My vehicle has stopped abruptly on the freeway three times due to this issue, when all electrical power to the vehicle is abruptly disabled with very less warning and reaction time. This is a very dangerous situation and if not for my alertness and quick reaction, my family would have been a traffic hazard and accident prone. This a manufacturing or part related defect on kia Sedonas. My mechanics have confirmed seeing this on other kia Sedonas. My vehicle currently still has this problem and I am trying to get kia to address it.

11 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 12/28/2015

Front chassis need to be replaced and I change 2 alternator and baterry less dam a year is not safe casue the vehicle shuts down and the pedal brake geta hard to stop the van and the airbag light keep on all the time.

12 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2003 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 10/01/2012

I purchased the 2003 kia Sedona in June of 2012 and by October of 2013 we had to replace the alternator twice in less then a month due to it losing power now the car continues to loose power when driving and while it is stopped. I have taken it to 3 different mechanics and no one can figure out what is wrong with it. The battery is brand new and the alternator is brand new but the battery dies every time it is driven. All the mechanics can tell me is that the alternator is not charging the battery but it is working. It will start hiccuping when you have to accelerate.

13 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 12/12/2011

I have owned my 2006 kia Sedona since Jan 2008 and have had a persistent problem of oil leaking from the valve covers and the oil pan gasket. This oil leak issue has been ¿fixed 5 times till now, on warranty coverage at the following kia dealerships (in descending order of dates)¿ - 1) fullerton kia on 10/29/2010 2) fullerton kia on 08/21/2010 3) glendale kia on 06/08/2009 4) glendale kia on 12/24/2008 5) fullerton kia on 01/30/2008 due to the design and placement of the engine parts on the 2006 Sedona, oil leaking from the valve cover on the top, falls directly on the alternator located just below it. With time, the oil leak residue clogs up the alternator itself, thereby leading to failure of the battery charging system (which has been replaced three times already on warranty coverage) and also the alternator breaking down itself. There have been 2 occasions where my vehicle has gone completely dead and stalled in the middle of the highway when I was driving, leading to a dangerous safety issue for my family. On both occasions the vehicle had to be towed in to a dealership and the alternator was replaced on warranty coverage. Following are the dealerships and dates when the battery/alternator was replaced (in descending order of dates) - 1) fullerton kia on 05/10/2011 (alternator) 2) fullerton kia on 10/29/2010 (battery) 3) glendale kia on 08/22/2009 (alternator) 4) glendale kia on 08/22/2009 (battery) 5) glendale kia on 06/08/2009 (battery) I now have the same oil leak problem once again and the oil has already started seeping from the valve covers into the alternator. I am dreading the day in the near future when the alternator will stop working and cause my vehicle to stall again on the road when my family and kids are driving in it. There appears to be a huge quality/safety issue related to the kia spare parts used to fix the oil leak problem.

14 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 05/08/2011

I have a 2006 kia Sedona minivan and I have had multiple issues with the alternator and battery systems. On more than one occasion my vehicle has stalled on the freeway when the alternator stopped charging the battery and power ran out. Before this happens, I see all the light indicators on the dashboard for monitored systems go on, such as the abs, tpms, hand brake, esc etc. I have had the alternator replaced once already and it has broken down a second time. I have the battery replaced atleast 3/4 times already. I am not sure if this is an electrical/wiring defect with my specific vehicle or a defect in the parts or design of the vehicle itself. Although I have luckily not had any accidents while these events occurred, I was driving on the freeway both times the alternator conked out and things could easily have ended differently.

15 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 03/22/2011

The contact owns a 2006 kia Sedona. The contact stated that the vehicle would stall as soon as the engine was started. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was advised that the junction box and instrument panel module needed to be replaced. In addition, the engine was leaking oil into the alternator. The dealer made repairs to rectify the oil leak failure but to no avail. The instrument panel module and junction box were not replaced. The failure mileage was 100,783.

16 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2003 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 10/22/2008

I have a 2003 kia Sedona and I have had nothing but issues. Anywhere from having to replace the alternator, which I will say was a pain in the butt. . . To major issues with the brakes. From reading many different sites this is not an uncommon issue!!!!!!!!!!!! it is just so frustrating that you purchase a van because they say it is great then you get this piece of junk. The sad thing is most people who own these are young couples with children and can not afford the repairs but have to pay for them and we are stuck with theses trash boxes because we have children and can not afford to go out and trade it in, lose our butts because they are not worth the money we owe on them. I can not afford to keep fixing this heap of junk but I am stuck with it. I hope that something gets done with these. . . They are worthless and my children are paying for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have not had a vehicle so bad in my life. . . I am tired of replacing the brakes, routers, and now the calipers!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

17 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2003 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 03/06/2008

I purchased my 2003 kia Sedona in November 2005. So far the following have been repaired or replaced: front hub assembly left side once, right side 2x's, the alternator, the wiper motor, two recalls, the battery, now at 65,000 miles the transmission is shot and needs to be replaced and the timing belt has been replaced. However the warranty company says they wont replace it because the cost of the repair exceeds the value of the car. This is simply outrageous. I have brought the car to the dealer for every service needed. Transmission, oil filter ect.

18 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2002 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 11/09/2007

Since purchasing a Sedona van in '02 we have had none stop electrical issues. The battery has been replaced at least twice, same for the alternator, and most recently the car caught fire behind the panel nest to the parking brake pedal. My wife drove the car at 1:00pm to the store and then came home, parked in the driveway, and locked the doors. At 10:00pm we were awaken by a neighbor who told us that the car was running, the wipers running, and the interior filling with smoke. I unlocked the doors and used the extinguisher to stop the fire. Thankfully she did not park in the garage or our house would probably have caught fire. Mm.

19 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2002 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 09/18/2007

2002 kia Sedona abs light illuminated. Mechanic determined that the abs control module needed to be reprogrammed. Consumer vehicle was not involved in the recall. Mechanic was unable to repair the consumer's vehicle. The mechanic was not able to repair the vehicle, because kia would not release computer information for the necessary diagnostics. The consumer called several other dealership and they were not very accomdating. The headlights failed twice. The battery and belts had to be replaced and the ac was running low. The consumer believed there may be some type of problem with the alternator.

20 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2002 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 09/03/2007

4 months ago my alternator went, taking with it my entire electrical system. After everything was fixed by the repair shop of my choice, the airbag light was still on and could not be reset because kia will not release the codes to do so. I took it to the dealer who inspected the vehicle and $90 later simply reset the codes to clear the light. Now I find myself with the light on again, and my 2002 kia Sedona at the dealership to find out why. Of course, it cannot be as simple as the code needing to be reset, and I have been informed that there is a faulty sensor in the seatbelt mechanism that will need to be replaced. This will cost $200 + to have done. It is my understanding that this is a recurrent problem with kia Sedonas and I cannot understand why it is not a recall item. My sister-in-law has had to replace theirs two times now, my father-in-law has had to replace his at least one time, and my sister-in-laws mother-in-law has had to replace hers at least twice. These are just family members, and I can only imagine how many other people are having this problem. On this site alone I have found several, not to mention other message boards showing the same complaints. At what point does a complaint like this get investigated to be recalled? this is a serious safety issue that needs to be taken care of and I implore you to investigate into this malfunction. Thank you. Updated 09/19/07.

21 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2003 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 07/30/2007

I had gone to lunch and stopped by the grocery store first and then went by the gas station for a moment. When I came out, I got into my van and it would not crank. No warning, no prior trouble, noises, slow crank, nothing. It would not even attempt to crank. I had to walk back to work. Later that evening, my father came to look at it and we assumed it was a dead battery. We replaced the battery and the battery light as well as the break light remained on. My father suspected the alternator. We called the kia dealership and they told us there had been a recall on alternators, but as usual, our VIN number did not show up as one recalled. $400. 00 later, I am wondering why our vehicle was not on the recall list. We have spent nearly $2,000 on "warranty maintenance" just to make sure nothing goes wrong and if it does it should be covered. Unfortunately for us, we spent well over $1500. 00 on our 60,000 mile maintenance to insure the warranty stays in affect just 3 months ago. Of course, we are told now that the alternator is not covered after 60,000 miles. Why am I paying so much money if nothing is going to be covered.

22 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2003 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 07/13/2007

Our Sedona has been unreliable from 15,000 miles on. I loose sleep over the fact that my wife and children are in this vehicle every day to get to and from school and other daily activities and errands. It is back in for service for the same re-occurring problem - a shot alternator. This is the fourth time this component has been damaged, twice before damaging the battery as well. I pride myself in keeping our vehicles serviced nearly to the recommended schedule, but this minivan is just not a quality built. I have read of other complaints, and similarly our minivan also bucks when idle at a traffic light, it bucks when traveling under 40 mph, and the air conditioning units are as load as an industrial type fan.

23 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2002 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 07/08/2007

2002 kia Sedona with electrical problems customer states that the car went dead while driving on the interstate* it was determined that the alternator was the cause of the problem, which also damaged other componets.

24 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2002 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 02/15/2007

This is the 2nd alternator and battery to be replaced. First one was at 40k miles, and was covered under warranty. They tried to get me to pay for the new battery, but I insisted that since their faulty part caused the battery to die, they should replace at no cost. I bought the car to the dealer thinking the alternator would still be covered, it is not. I refused for them to replace, since there is an obvious problem with their alternators. The service rep. Agreed that the 2nd alternator should have lasted for the life of the car. I bought the car to another mechanic who has now informed that the wire to the alternator was fried/rotted/burnt/ off. This is due to the way the van is designed. It is apparently too close to the exhaust and has caused the wire to burn off. This is now a major job, and his experience tells him that this will happen again. Also, he has advised that he has seen a lot of problems with the brakes on these vans. I thought it was just ours that needed 3 sets of new brakes for less than 75k mile on the car. The average life of brakes on this vehicle is less than 25k. More importantly, the alternator wiring is defective and will undoubtedly can be a cause for a fire.

25 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2002 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 12/14/2005

In 11/04 my abs lights went on in my 02 kia Sedona. I took the van to get new brakes and was told that I needed to take it to the dealership because the abs sensor was broken in pieces on the driver side wheels. In 8/05 my air bag light came on in the dash and stayed on. Before I could get my car in to dealership, I was driving home from work in early 9/05 going ove an overpass when my car just died and lost all power. I was told that my master flow sensor went bad and needed a new one (warranty). They also replaced the seat belt sensor in the drivers side to take care of the air bag light. 2 days later my airbag light came back on. In 12/05 my abs light came on again along with the warning beep. I called my dealership and got appt. Following Tuesday. I was told it should be safe to drive until then. Both headlights also went out. Now when applying brake my brake goes down grinds, adjust then goes all the way down . Got car to dealership tues am. In the afternoon received call 1 yr old battery is leaking acid due to faulty alternator (sending too much power out. Was told must replace battery so that dealership may complete diagnosis. Was told by dealership kia only warranties main issue not any additional items damaged by main issue. Received call a little while ago, told bad altinator needs battery faulty seat belt sensor now in passenger seat belt (3 months ago was drivers side also my headlights are both blown - yes faulty altenator most likely caused this. I was also told that my new brakes (replaced in Aug 05 at less than 3000 mi ago) are wore thin and need relacement along with rotors which now have grooves in them and they are also to thin. I have now replaced the brakes 4 times on a vehicle that is 4 yrs old and being told must replace once again.

26 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2002 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 09/20/2005

Consumer belts squeal, slidding door drags, pulley was replaced at 7744 miles. ** answer required*** the pulley and belt have been replaced 10 times. The alternator seized while the vehicle was being driven. The a/c fan made loud noises. The sliding door dragged. The emergency brake would not hold, the dealer adjusted it three times then finally replaced. An internal short in the fuse clock caused the vehicle not to start. The vehicle stalled intermittenlty but the dealer was unable to duplicate the stalling. The power windows would stick and make noise, the dealer lubed it and replaced the regulator. The rear hatch rusted around handle and had to be repaired/refinished twice. The exhaust manifold racked. Oil leaked from oil filter. The front and rear wipers failed. The sliding door handle broke. The dash lights illuminated due to broken bad switch contacts. The rotors warped. The a/c was blowing when it wasn't on and sometimes it blew out warm air. The rear seat arm rest will not stay down. The threshold on the left side is cracked.

27 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2002 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 08/26/2005

Vehicle stalled at intersection and was almost hit several times. 2) service bulletin put out by kia calls for new alternator, with smaller pulley and ecm battery compensation 3) kia technical service bulletin calls for a new alternator with smaller pulley (65mm ->55mm) and ecm battery compensation revised.

28 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2002 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 08/23/2005

I had my battery replaced in March 2003 because the car would not start. August 22nd my check engine light and brake light came on. I called the service department and they said could be the alternator. I made an appointment for the next day at 9:00a. M. When I was driving home from school I noticed my abs light was on. I parked it in drive way. It would not start the next morning so my husband jumped started it. I drove my daughter to school and my car starting beeping, hesitating, airbag light came on plus all the other ones from the day before. I dropped my daughter at school and about a block down the road in just died with my son and I in the car. I noticed a vapor fume coming out of the vents by the windshield when it died. I got my son and I out of the car and called roadside assistance. The service department said I need a new alternator and battery. I got the alternator covered and they put a new battery in.

29 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2002 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 08/17/2005

The contact stated that this vehicle has experienced several problems. The first incident was in August 2005 when the alternator, alternator belt, and a sensor were replaced. A sensor was replaced twice in October 2005. Then, on October 28, 2005 there a control valve was replaced. The check engine light was on each time before the vehicle was repaired. The check engine light normally remained off for about three days. However, when the last repair was made the check engine light remained off for only about 50 miles. The vehicle has not been back to the dealer since then.

30 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2002 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 08/13/2005

Battery dies every summer during hot weather. Three batteries in 3 years. The alternator does not supply battery with enough current when the air conditioning, radio, and lights are on causing the battery to drain.

31 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2002 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 08/11/2005

2002 Sedona was repaired 2 times with less then 200 miles on it for battery draining- claim was it was the radio didn't shut off with the car. Then last month with 59. 000 miles on it I complained of the car hesitating and lights flickering, airbag light came on for no reason, claim to repair was tune-up- 1700. 00 and two months later my battery went on fire with 5 people in it, 3 children and one is carried out handicapped. Lights flickered, odometer went nuts without the engine racing, door locks locked and unlocked, battery light, break light, and airbag light came back on. Wipers went on without turning them on with the switch and the hazards went on without pushing the button. I am more then happy to file a consumer complaint and a lawsuit. My dealer went out of business I was told when my car went on fire two weeks ago. So now it is at another dealer and at 65,000 not covered, it will be covered. I am actually compiling a class action lawsuit on the safety of these batteries. I want my car fixed and all these vans recalled to find out the reason, I would not want one of my families killed and don't want to wait till it happens to someone else's. All of us can't be wrong and as a safety problem and a possible means of killing people when the doors lock and won't let you out when the car is on fire - ?? get with it people. Recall these cars before someone gets killed. Use my car as your test subject, I offer it. Now my daughters lungs hurt from the smell of the sulfur hurrying to get the kids out.

33 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2002 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 01/05/2005

Re:kia Sedona minivan [xxx] with about 58,300 miles. No prior problems of any kind. St complaint: on evening of Friday, 12/31/04, a clunking/grinding sound from right side of my kia Sedona at about 58,000 miles grabbed and seized the right axle. On 1/1/05 [sat] I drove car to local srvce cntr. On 1/3/05 [Monday] srvc cntr diagnosed burnt/broken right axle wheel bearings. Altho I told srvce cntr to do brake service on all 4 wheels but not wheel bearings, as I wanted that work to be done by my kia dealership - my local station replaced brake pads & rims and honed rotors and replaced front right axle wheel bearings. Tow service to kia dealership was cancelled by me as a result. 2nd complaint: on wed, 1/5/05, I drove daughter at 6:45 a. M. From bronx to her laguardia hs in manhattan. Noticed that car radio and head lights flicked on & off while driving for minutes at a time. Later in day, I drove to brooklyn's 99 street cleaners to pick up my military field coat at 3:20 p. M. Minivan parked but engine would not turn over & start. Used auxiliary battery pack [abp] to start engine and entered bqexpressway. Crossing brooklyn bridge to manhattan, engine died. Used abp to start engine and entered fdr drive up manhattan to home. Car engine died 3 more times. After 4 stalls and re-starts with abp, I kept abp connected to vehicle battery and, with all lights off in darkness from 4:30 p. M. -5:45 p. M. , in slow rush hour traffic, the abp kept car alive till arrival at local srvce cntr. All fuses checked okay while car battery recharged. Diagnosis made that alternator and/or regulator not working. Have phoned kia tow service for pick up to dealership. Vehicle has about 58,300 miles on it. I am very satisifed with kia customer service and kia tow service, whom I telephoned on 1/3/05 [and then cancelled tow] and today on 1/6/05. 34 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2002 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 07/13/2004

My kia sodona van at 63,000 miles began to stall after initial start. Engine has to be revved repeatedly to get it to go. Took it in and was told the alternator needed replacing, 400+ dollars and a whole day of waiting it is still not running right, in fact it is worse than before. Was told to bring it back in, may have a fuel problem. Was the alternator even bad?!! other things continue to break or fall apart on the van. Head supports are broken on two seats, will not stay up. If in a crash would not have the support these are supposed to give! one of the side doors will not close properly. Was told it would be around 100 dollars to change out a ball bearing in the door! these are not covered under the wonderful bogus 100,000 mile warranty.

35 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2002 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 07/01/2003

Charging system under engineered. Battery fails to charge in hot weather, say 90 f or above. Amperage too low for use in hot weather with ac at full power, especialy when idling. I have tried a lager battery 1,000 cca, but its only a temporary fix. As the hot days go by the battery starts to lose its power and then I need to drive the vehicle for a long time before the battery is fully charged and I mean 3hr or more of a drive! I have had to jump start 2002 kia Sedona 6 times in hot weather. Talked to dealer about it. They said it was a very common complait with the kia Sedona in hot weater cities and that kia is not goint to change the wimpy altermator with a more beefy one. As a former technician I know that this is a fire hazard, radios and other electronics will short out if not remedied. Cortrary to main belief that only high voltage can cause a short I have found that low valtage can cause a short then when you increase your voltage by jump starting you can cause a fire. So heads up (tick, tock, tick ,tock).
