When I bought this car I was not given any warnings/information about the edible wiring in the auto even though there are numerous complaints and lawsuits about this problem. I could find nothing in the provided literature. I am a 73 year old widow and I had researched this car. It rated high for safety. I had to have a safe car. In February,2018 while I was on the road warning lights about abs appeared and the rear washer did not work. Diagnosed as chewed wiring. The dealership said not their problem! a few weeks later the car stalled on a highway and warning lights said abs and the cruise control did not work. A few minutes later the check engine light came on. The car fell to pieces as I was driving. Again diagnosed as chewed wiring. Again had it repaired at my expense. I researched and spent several hundred on repellants, etc. I had inside the car and all around the car surrounded with everything I could find. I called an exterminator but he saw no evidence of rats. Possible squirrels. Game cam took pictures of raccoons. Thought maybe I was safe. Two weeks later no water to front or rear windows. Dealer said about 8 inches of the water hose had been eaten. My previous car (chevy uplander 2008) sat in the same place for over 3 years and no wiring problems. Research showed most cars today made with soy-based wiring that attracted rodents. I am not safe driving this car. There were no warnings about a know problem. The dealer denies all responsibility and the manufacturer customer complain department will not return my calls. When I call them they say "not their problem". I say it is their problem!! I want a buyback or at least wrapping all the wiring with repellant tape, refund of all money spent in repairs and preventatives, a promise to fix any future damage and a monetary award for all my stress and inconvenience.
Driving to montana from colorado over the summer, ac went out. Got it back to dealership, was told blower motor went bad - actually melted the plug and we had smoke in the van! replaced the blower motor and plug (out of pocket) from dealership since they said out of warranty due to mileage. Then, 3 weeks later, same problem. They replaced the wiring harness connector. 2 weeks later, same problem, replaced blower motor again and wiring pigtail connector to blower motor. A/c is one thing, but when entering into colorado winter driving, need heat for the windshield! repeated problem dozens of times over the last 2 months! vehicle isn't safe to drive now! went to another dealership, now that it's winter in colorado, need heat for windshield. Was told needed to replace full vehicle wiring harness at ~$1,800 parts + ~$1,100 labor and to "see if that would fix it. " nope! vehicle is not safe due to visibility due to defective heating for defrost! I'm finding this is a common problem for 2012 kia vehicles with climate control issues, blowers, etc! not sure if it's drawing too much power or what? have had two blower motors installed and wiring pigtails in 3 months, and not right. Vehicle not safe for my wife to drive with cold climate! this is incredibly dangerous! vehicles need to be recalled and immediately fixed!.
Wiring under seat shorted causing small fire inside. . Extinguished wiring under car in same area melted shorting every thing out.

I have a 2008 kia Sedona van and have been having problems just recently with the head light bulbs burning out. I have had to replace the driver front head light bulb twice in the last 4 months. After just replacing the last bulb just a little over a month ago, my driver side brake tail light bulb is now out. Is there something wrong with a connection in the wiring with these bulbs? I have notice several kia Sedona's on the road that have blowen head light bulbs. Those bulbs are not cheap and they are also hard to find as well. This is a problem that kia should be addressing.
The contact owns a 2002 kia Sedona. The contact stated that there was a problem with the wiring of the air conditioning and heating units. Additionally, the dash lights would not properly illuminate. The power door locks and power windows would also intermittently fail. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 127,000. The VIN was not available.

I replaced a blown 10 amp fuse on a dealer installed trailer wiring harness adapter. 15-20 minutes later I noticed a fire coming from driver's side rear light assembly. Removed fuse, removed lighting assembly, put out fire. In looking at damage, trailer harness adapter was melted along with several wires attached to it. Foam bumper padding caught fire and was melted. No visible body damage.
Automatic sliding doors on both the driver and passenger side do not work properly. At times they do not open using the back seat button and/or using the console button. At other times the doors do not lock into place and caused the open door alarm to sound. In addition, the plastic casing on the wires in the door cracked and the wires were damaged during normal opening/closing of the doors. Both the wiring and the casing had to be replaced on both doors with no coverage by kia.
The electrical system has shorts and harness issues all over. You had a recent recall, but not involving 2006 Sedonas only 2007. Our vehicle has same issue as found in the recent recall. The airbag light is on and I have never had an accident. The lighting is also affected due to the wiring harness. I have one blinker I constantly replace and same with one front head lamp. I have seen other complaints of the same thing with the same exact vehicle.

The contact owns a 2006 kia Sedona. While making a left turn at 35 mph, the rear driver's side door suddenly opened and then began to close electronically. The door continued to open and close until the contact was able to disconnect the wiring on the defective door. The vehicle was diagnosed by the dealer, but was not serviced for the failure. There were no warnings prior to the failure. The current and failure mileages were 71,124.
Vehicle floorboard got hot and melted the wiring harness under carpet. Kia dealer found no cause for the excessive heat but replaced the wiring at my expense.
I have concerns of safety concerns on seat belts and electrical wiring 1. The seat belt shoulder strap and that is it doesn't retract back to its retractable position. It seems to be seizing up. It has been lubricated a number of times but keeps returning. Lap belt was replaced under warranty and this one is doing the same thing. My concern is that if the shoulder belt does seize then how the forward forces will allow the lock mechanism to engage itself to stop your body from being exerted forward. 2. The wiring I have found that one of the cigarette light power outlets has under the proper gauge of wire for the amperage that will cover the demand. One of things I have observed is that checking out the outlet the wires that power the outlet is 22 gauges which are rated for less then 1 amp draw. The cooler that I am using requires an electrical circuit 3 amps and needs to be rated for 15 amps. What has been happening is the wires behind the panels are warming up, this is the wire the manufacturer uses heats up and it could lead to a fire behind the panel. The head office of this vehicle has no information to know if there is a problem with the above concerns and feel this needs to be looked into before there is a death because these are not proper items installed.

The contact owns a 2002 kia Sedona. The vehicle had been parked for approximately 8-10 hours when it suddenly caught fire. The wiring fuse box caused the engine, radio, and wiper/washer to activate. The fire originated in the instrument panel. The contact was able to douse the fire with a fire extinguisher. The vehicle was later towed to a dealer and they did not provide a reason as to why it caught fire. The contact found numerous complaints on the same type of vehicle with identical failures. The current and failure mileages were 72,000. Updated 03/06/08. The consumer stated the recall was done, however ever since the repair, the seats never worked correctly. The consumer had worked done on the air conditioner. Updated.

July 2006 I noticed a smell of burning brakes or something similar. But after I turned the vehicle off for an hour the smell disappeared. Then on July 4th 2006 we were 10 miles from home and noticed the radio turned off, then a few more miles the gauges all turned off, then by the time we got off the freeway, the car turned off. We then turned it back on, the radio and gauges all worked until we drove to the dealer which was closed so we drove one more mile to a safe place to park. At this time the car was completely dead. We looked in the engine, the fuse box was smoking and when opened, all the fuses were melted down and all the wires were melted too. We then got it towed to the dealer the next day 7/5/06. The car has now been at the dealer for over a week and half, and will not be ready until next week. I am hoping the new wiring they put in doesn't burn again. This is the second major trouble with this new car under 9000 miles. The first trouble was one week after buying the new car with 3 miles on it. Drove into my driveway at home on a steep hill to find I had no brakes. The trouble was a kinked brake line that broke . . . Very scary.

2002 kia Sedona. The consumer stated vehicle smelled of smoke. Then, the vehicle stopped due to a complete electrical shutdown. The vehicle was then pushed over to the side of the road. Consumer tried to restart the vehicle numerous times, but could not do so. Vehicle was towed to the dealership.
My wife was driving her 2002 kia Sedona and it caught on fire. The fire was electrical in nature and began in the steering column. After turning off the ignition and removing the keys, the engine started along with the windshield wipers. The fire was contained to the dash and steering column area. A nearby citizen extinguished the fire with a fire extinguisher. We are fortunate that my wife and 3 young children were not seriously injured.
On September 30, 2004 at approximately 6:00 p. M. My husband and son were scheduled to attend a meeting. As they approached our vehicle parked in the driveway, my husband noticed that the automatic key did not open the vehicle. He tried several times and finally manually unlocked the door. When he opened the door he noticed that the steering column, dash board and driver's door were damaged by fire and melted plastic damaged the carpet. The windows and interior were covered in residue from the smoke. We immediately contacted the kia dealership and reported the incident and had the vehicle towed to southpoint kia where we purchased the vehicle. We received a slow response for getting a replacement vehicle and was told several days later that we would need to cover the rental vehicle until they determined the cause of the fire. I was told to report the claim to my insurance company state farm. State farm determined that the damage was caused by a "right seat switch - electrical problem. " as of today, we have not received the status of this claim or the cause of the damage from kia engineers. It appears that they are not honoring their 10 year 100,000 mile warranty. Our vehicle was purchased September, 2003.
