38 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2002 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 05/14/2005

: the contact stated while driving on normal road conditions the vehicle presented vibrations when the brakes were applied. The kia dealership did not have a service center on its premises and the contact was referred to a different manufacturer service center. The brake rotors were resurfaced, but the vibration continued. As a result, the dealership referred the contact to a different service center were the brake rotors were resurfaced again. The vibration persisted. A consumer protection agency was alerted and required the local service dealer to resurface the brake rotors on three additional occasions. This still did not remedy the problem. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop who determined the rotors were fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle continues to be driven in its current condition, but away from open roads in order to reduce the accident risk presented by the defective rotors. Updated 9/15/2006 -.

39 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2005 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 05/01/2005

Bought van new. At 9k started vibrating. Took to dealer and they replaced rotors. Again at 20k. Then they replaced the rear drums for vibrating. Then they turned rotors and drums to correct vibration. Mechanics and service managers all tell me it's a known problem because vans weight was increase to get better safety rating, but they used light weight brakes and they can't handle the heavier van and overheat and warp. After all this, they tell me know that they won't cover to fix issue any more, saying it isn't a safety issue. If they rotors/drums aren't sufficient to stop vehicle correctly, seems to be a safety issue to me. Need to have this investigated and action taken. I have opened a case w/ kia corp. To review and make a decision. Please contact me for further details or more info. Thanks.

40 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2005 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 04/07/2005

The contact states shas been having problems with brakes since April or may 2005. The brakes were squeaking and the rotors were warped. The dealership told the contact that the rotors were warped from the boat where the car had been shipped. They replaced the rotors. Also, they replaced the brakes and the pads. In addition, filed some kind of clips and dusted the pads. She has had the brakes worked on or repaired a total of five-six times since April. Right now the brakes were jerking badly when she stopped. The rubber piece that goes around the window to seal the window was bad. The piece would roll up either on the outside or the inside of the window. . They ordered a different piece three times and still have not had it fixed.

41 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2002 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 10/30/2004

We purchased our van in Jul of 02. After 6 months we returned the van complaining about a squeeling noise from the brakes. We were told the brakes were ok. At 24k miles I noticed the rotors were dulland the rear shoes were worn, I was told the rotors were glazed over and need to be turned and the shoes were worn to less than 50% life, and they would not warrenty after 12k miles. I had the rotors turned and replaced the pads, a few weeks later we noticed the the brakes would pulsate when slowing down from highway speeds. I took to dealer that the rotors warped. I replaced the rotors and pads, after 3k miles the pulsateing happened again. In oct 04 we had an accident I was reffered to kia customer service and was told that they would not warrenty anything because I did the repairs myself, even though I had a reoccuring complaint about my brakes before now. I replaced the rotors and was told by the parts and service at the dealer that kia informs them not to turn the rotors but replace them, due to over heating and warping. I feel that if the dealership and kia had repaired my brakes properly from the begining our accident could have been avoided. In the past 6 months the brakes have gone to the floor 3-4 times and the dealer was informed of this.

- the contact states since purchasing of 2004 kia Sedona he has had to take the vehicle to dealer for rotor repairs five times . The dealership replaced the rotors three times. The contact stated that on first repair he was told that the rotors had hot spots on them. While driving at 40 mph and trying to come to a stop the vehicle vibrated. The last time a repair was done the dealership did repairs on the rear brakes and drums, but the problem recurred. The contact stated that the vehicle sat at the dealership for over a week, and he had to go and pick up the vehicle and drive it back home without any repairs being done. 44 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2003 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 08/14/2004

We've had many problems w/ kia Sedona. The biggest has been brakes/rotors. We noticed a loud grinding noise & vibration not even a year after we got it, especially when going downhill. Contacted dealer & they replaced the rotors at 13,000 miles. Not even 4,000 miles later they were back in the same condition. Took the van to a brake service center (not the dealer) to have the brake pads changed & was told the rotors were warped. I explained to the man what we had been through & he felt strongly that it was a defect. Contacted our dealer again and took the van in. Was not even there 10 minutes, they did not want to hear it! would not do anything for us! so far, we are told we can only purchase rotors directly from the manuf. & so far, the rotors that have been on this van from the manuf. Have not been good! I've talked to several other kia Sedona owners & they have expressed the same problem with their vehicle!! we are sorry for trying a kia! the airbag light came on approx. 3 wks ago and stays on all the time that the van is on! I took it in for service and was told there's a defect in the passenger side seat belt buckle but they had none in stock so had to order it. Was told that the airbag probably would not deploy if we're in an accident but they did not seem to mind letting us drive around like that for an undetermined amount of time. Said they would send a card in the mail when they get the part in! the passenger's side window started not working! about every other day it would just stop! I told the service dept about this at the same time I took the van in for the airbag light & was told, well its not doing it right now so we can't do anything about it! the window is still giving us problems but about every day now instead of every other! we've tried to trade this vehicle in a few times & we can only get about half of what we owe on it! we were even told about a week ago that there are major problems with the clearcoat on it!.

45 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2004 Kia Motor Sedona

46 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2002 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 04/02/2004

The incident started prior to this date. It started when my vehicle hit 10,000 miles. I heard a rumbling in the brakes and told my husband, he thought I was crazy-that brakes don't go at 10,000 miles, but sure enough they did. It was covered under kia warranty, they said the rotors were warped and the brakes were shot. Now in April of 04 at about 22,000 miles same thing again. Kia said all 4 sets- front and reat needed replacement and it wouldn't be covered under warrant-normal wear and tear. They wanted to charge me $600. 00. I took the car to goodyear. They replaced all for $340. 00. I took the original brakes and they still had "meat" on them. Anyhow, Aug. 04 at about 27,000 miles under goodyear's warranty, once again the front brakes had to be replaced. Now in Feb. 05, everytime I made a right hand turn the red brake light went on. Ast first I ignored it thinking it was defective, but then I heard the brakes rumble. I brought it back to goodyear at about 34,000 miles and goodyear once again replaced the front brakes and told me that that was the last time they were replacing the brakes. I would have to bring it back to kia. Now, I'm sure it's going to happen again, since there is a pattern. I'm tired of this and I'm sure kia won't be cooperative. So this leads me to you.

48 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2003 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 07/23/2003

: the contact stated that the vehicle experienced continuous brake problems. The vehicle was taken to the dealer numerous times who repaired or replaced the brakes and rotors every time problems reoccurred. The dealer determined that the problems were due to normal wear and tear although the vehicle's problems occurred 2 months after the vehicle was purchased. The manufacturer was contacted and would not state the cause of the problem. The contact believes that the problems are a manufacturer defect.

49 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2003 Kia Motor Sedona
