My vehicle has approximately 68k miles on it, and began leaking oil within the past month (and displaying the low pressure error light). The leaks themselves varied between small drips to significant amounts left in parking lots. It got to the point where I was unable to even run the heater for extended periods of time due to the fumes entering the cabin from the burning oil. With 3 kids until 12yrs, it was very unsafe. Upon bringing it in for service, I was advised that not only the oil pan gasket needed to be replaced, but the rear main seal as well. This is alarming since the rear main typically does not need to be addressed until the vehicle is over/near 100k miles. Thankfully, my warranty is covering the repairs, as this could have cost me over $1k to replace (due to the transmission needing to be removed to get to the seal).
I was driving the 2014 kia sorento on us27 in cincinnati, ohio (55mph zone) and all of a sudden the vehicle slowed (I wasn't pressing the brake pedal) and the vehicle stopped in the middle of a busy roadway. I had to floor the gas to get it to move to the side of the roadway. There was a odor of something burning when I finally got out of the road. The traction control light was illuminated during the time. The vehicle had to be towed to a local kia dealer. They said it had 5 major codes on diagnostic, they couldn't duplicate the problem that lead me to the dealer. But they wouldn't return the vehicle due to safety concerns.

The engine stopped after driving through a small bump at the park lot (low speed), accompanied by steering wheel locking by itself. Tried to restart the car and it didn't work. Jump start was also unsuccessful. The car was towed to the nearby dealership. After days of waiting, I was told problem can not be diagnosed but they offer to replace the computer. Now I am waiting for their new result.

We went on a road trip from ohio to texas and the vehicle started making a sound we immediately pulled it over and all the lights (oil, engine, etc¦) came on. We had it towed to a kia dealership and found out that the whole bottom of the vehicle was corroded. There was a hole in the the coolant line and all of the coolant leaked out of the car causing the vehicle to overheat and destroyed the engine. There was no warning about a problem with the coolant line. Now all of the lines need to be replaced because it is all corroded underneath the car. They are quoting over $20,000 of repair work for the vehicle. We have under 80,000 miles. We never had these problems on our 2002 kia spectra that we still own. Kia is currently unwilling to repair or replace this defective vehicle.

Key stuck in ignition. Parked Mini-van, cannot remove key from ignition. While turning counter clockwise, stopped at acc position. Can turn key clockwise, restart engine, turn off engine, key would not turn counter clockwise past acc position. Took to dealer, dealer could not duplicate problem. Cost $170. 2 days after pick up Mini-van from dealer, wife drove to grocery store, could not remove key from ignition. Checked internet, seems that there has been a problem going on since 2006 with numerous kia vehicles but no technical service bulletins. I was able to duplicate it once. I could not turn key counter clockwise past acc, when I took foot off brake pedal, vehicle rocked slightly, heard click and saw gear selector lever shudder. Now could turn key and remove from ignition. I think something wrong with shifter lnikage not releasing microlock in ignition.
While driving in construction (55mph) going to work in morning rush, the esc off light came on and there was loss of acceleration. I turned the emergency flashers on and coasted to a stop, but there was nowhere to get off the road. Cars started swerving around me and one car almost hit a divider wall. I shut the engine off and restarted 3 times before I could get going again. It happened twice again within a 2 mile distance all in the construction area. Research showed the tps is defective and needs replaced and reprogrammed. This is a dangerous problem. Somebody could be killed.

While driving the vehicle, you suddenly loose power. The esc off light and engine light come on. You are not able to accelerate. It's like the pedal is not there. You could be going 50 mph and then suddenly drop down to 20 to 30 mph without warning. There is a few codes that come p2106 throttle actuator control system-forced limited power p2138. Throttle/pedal position sensor/switch "d"/"e" voltage correlation. There are other codes that came up before and it also caused these issues. This happens while you are driving. Sometimes you can tell its going to turn on the esc light and engine light and going to loose power and sometimes it happens all of a sudden. When researching online about this problem, its a common problem with kia especially the Sedonas.
After parking vehicle, went to exit and could not remove ignition key. Key turned off vehicle but would only go as far accs, which means while motor was not running, power was still on. Made sure dash indicator was in park, yet could not remove key. Spoke to a locksmith and added lube to around ignition key without any results. Left inside semi-heated garage overnight in case of frozen components without results. While dash indicator seemed to show proper gear selections, while in park, key could not removed, steering wheel would not lock, and vehicle could be moved forward and backward by manual pushing, in the meantime it was using up the battery. Kia dealership determined "shifter assembly failure", and after $600+ and 6 days for the special ordered part, vehicle was returned, but the failed part was returned to the supplier for a core charge. So if vehicle was parked in a parking lot and ignition key cannot be removed the car could be stolen, if parked on an incline car could roll away because it's truly not in park, and or your battery is dead. There was prior warning of any failure and owned since new.

About 18mo after owning the van we started to have issues with shifting from park to other gears. It keeps getting worse as time goes on. Now I have had to remove the shift nob and depress the linkage to get it out of and into gear.
Was on highway heading into construction zone , tapped brakes to disengage cruise control, cc did not disengage. Heavily pressed brakes, cc would not disengage. Vehicle is actually accelerating every time I step on brake. Abs/esc lights come on. Ultimately able to disengage cc on the column but not before accelerating to 80+mph heading into wall of traffic merging from three to one lanes and slowing to 45mph for construction zone. 20 miles later I pull into rest area hoping to clear error lights; turned car off and back on - couldn't get van out of park. After about 100+ restarts finally able to get van into drive. Limped home, flatbedded to dealership next morning. Still no acknowledgement of issue from service department 24 hours later.

The contact owns a 2012 kia Sedona. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 mph the vehicle lost acceleration independently and the speed would not increase to 30 mph when the pedal was engaged. The failure occurred twice over a period of a year. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the sensor for the throttle needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact also stated that the odometer reading was incorrect. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 42,000.
I bought the car last year and it worked fine until this spring when it had sudden acceleration in the rear gear, causing a minor accident. I was not sure it was the uncontrolled acceleration but then it had two more cases of sudden forward acceleration that cannot be stopped by stepping on the brakebut can be stopped by shifting the gear to neutral. Then this morning (06/18/2012) when I backed out of the home driveway and put the gear to drive, it suddenly started the acceleration again. This time it wouldn't stop even with the gear quickly shifted to neutral, and kept on accelerating. I managed to steer away from collisions for 4 blocks but ended up hitting a fire hydrant and two sign posts, scrape another car, then finally hit the fence to stop the car. The car is totaled but fortunately nobody was hurt. Obviously this car is a great danger to people. It should be recalled immediately.

Tl- the contact owns a 2011 kia Sedona. While stopped at a traffic stop, the contact depressed the accelerator pedal and heard a loud bang and grinding sound. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician stated that the front driver's side axle was fractured and would have to be replaced. Additionally, the power windows and rear driver and passenger side sliding doors could not be opened. The vehicle was taken for inspection and the technician stated that the sensor in the front driver's side door panel would have to be replaced. The contact stated there was an occasion when the gear shifter would not come out of park. The contact was not aware of the repair performed to correct the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 10,000. Kmj.

I was driving down the road when the clear road turned into black ice going around a corner, I then got pulled into snow and then side swiped a telephone pole that sent me into a boulder bigger than my car. The impact was at 30mph and the air bags were supposed to deploy between 7 and 10mph. My head when into the windshield 2 times and bounced off the steering wheel. My wife slammed her head off the dash and my daughter had a seatbelt bruise. The air bags never deployed and kia has a so called fix for the airbags but its still not out or recalled yet. When the ambulance showed up they hit the black ice and almost slid into us. About 20 to 30 mins after the ambulance showed up the town had a salt and sand truck come out and fix the corner. On the way to the hospital the emt told me I was the 5th or 6th person to crash in the same spot this year. And the year had just begun. But more importantly the engine was pushed back 2 to 3 inches and I have pics and video of the damage. The airbags could have saved us a lot of pain and suffering and huge hospital bills.
Van was making a high-pitched whining sound. Took it in and found that the water pump needed replacement. They tested it and it was still not running properly so they dug a little deeper and found that the coils and wiring needed to be replaced. Got the van back in working condition and less than two days later, the check engine light comes on. Took it back and they said it needed a new catalytic converter. Thanks to laws in the state of California, we cannot replace with an aftermarket ($200); instead we were quoted $1k, and that apparently is on the cheap side. The gov. 't has a warranty program to replace catalytic converters on vehicles 80,000 miles or less. We were just out of that limit. Too bad for us. We're trading it in.

The contact owns a 2004 kia Sedona. The contact stated that while attempting a left turn, the steering wheel locked making it difficult for the contact to turn the wheel. The contact tapped on the brakes and then the accelerator in order for the steering wheel to unlock. The dealer was notified of the failure but the vehicle was neither diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 61,000. The consumer also stated the vehicle jerks and the power steering problem has worsened significantly. Updated 07/19/11.
Constant pool of oil under the hood. (to me it is in the engine compartment - I've been told it's near the transmission case and also told it's near the intake manifold). The oil pool was first noticed by my husband when he was checking our fluids before a trip. It was pointed out to the dealer in July when we were there with engine problems and they "cleaned oil off" as stated on invoice. When questioned about it they had no answer as to what it was from. The oil was there again and has been there constantly since July. The dealer tells us it's oil that's been spilled from oil changes but everytime they clean it off it appears again. The oil was cleaned off twice in October but it's still there. Engine is also very loud and vibrates. Manufacturer was notified in July - no work performed other than wiping it off and no diagnostics to figure out where it's coming from.
Multiple instances where vehicle has been unable to start. Will subsequently turn over for a period of about 5 seconds and finally "catches" and will run rough. Upon driving the vehicle will run rough, hesitate and stall, mostly at times during a full stop attempting to accelerate to normal driving speed in traffic and through turning. Upon inspection at dealership, no faulty parts found and condition "disappears". Upon receipt of vehicle from dealership, problem has continued to plague vehicle. Replaced many parts under the advisement of the dealership and have never found a solution to the problem. No check engine code present during problem. Has left family stranded on more than a few occasions making vehicle unreliable and unsafe to operate.
Problems with stalling and rough shifting. This van has been in the shop 10 or more time for the same problem. It has been serviced at capital kia in austin, texas all 10 times. The transmission has been replaced 2 times, the main computer has been replaced. Air sensor replaced. The list goes on and on. My service advisor is gene. While he has been helpful he is limited on what he can do. I have called corporate several times and they have advise the service technicians on what to fix but the van is still not working. We need help in getting rid of the van.
My 2007 kia Sedona minivan has 18,000 miles and has two major issues. First, a grinding noise in the front end attributed by a mechanic to new front end bearings. Second, a check-engine code which is causing the rough idle based off of faulty O2 sensors. Both items were diagnosed by a kia certified garage - gary rome kia in enfield, CT. I don't believe front end bearings should fail on a 2007 vehicle. Also, there is a technical service bulletin for the O2 sensors. According to mechanics at gary rome kia - both issues are "very common with these minivans. ".
I purchased a 2006 kia Sedona in August, 2006. On 08-14-2006 it was returned for malfunction of the airbag system, repairs were made. I also stated to them that it was pulling to the left, which to this day they have not corrected. On 11-13-2006 at approx. 3,300 miles the engine light came on, the van began to sputter and cut out. It was towed to the dealer( misfire in cyclinder)and repairs were made. The van was returned to the dealer again on 01-03-2007(scanned system, could not find code),01-18-2007(multiple misfires),02-08-2007(random misfires. Also repaired shorted out hot wire to driver's side parking light),04-09-2007(they stated that the gas cap was loose, even though the van is skipping),04-12-2007 (random misfires). After sending a final repair attempt letter to kia they picked my vehicle up on 04-23-2007 and brought techs in from California to assess the problem. I was going to pick my van up on Thursday 04-26-2007 but kia called and stated that after they test drove it the engine light once again came on. They stated that they hope to have it resolved on 04-27-2007. On 04-27-2007 they hope to have it resolved on 04-30-2007. On 04-30-2007 they hope to have it resolved on 05-01-2007. On 05-01-2007 they stated that they would be pulling out the drive train to ship to California and in turn kia/California would be shipping a new one. Now they hope to have it resolved on Friday, may 4, 2007. I have major safety concerns/issues regarding this vehicle. There is obviously severe electrical/mechanical problems and this vehicle is not stable/safe enough to be roadworthy. The people at the dealership are wonderful and understanding to my concerns, however Kia Motors of America does not seem to address the safety issues as a concern. I am still pursuing this issues between myself and kia, but this is way too much hassle to go through to try to keep myself, my family and other motorist safe against this vehicle being on the road.
Consumer 2005 Sedona would not move forward or backward. Mechanic determined that it was the brakes. The consuemr believes the problem is with the transmission.
