2 Structure problem of the 2015 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 01/01/2021

The contact owns a 2015 kia Sedona. The contact previously received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 18v338000 (structure, electrical system). The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that the passenger’s side door would be repaired but not the driver’s side door. After the repair, the contact stated that the driver’s side sliding door failed to latch as the driver’s side sliding door indicator warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the abs warning light was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle back to the dealer where he was informed that the braking system was operating as needed; however, a faulty sensor had caused the warning light to illuminate. The dealer acknowledged the failure with the sliding door; however, the dealer informed him that parts for the repair was not available. Recently, the contact was made aware of an article about a recall on kia vehicles with a risk of catching fire due to defective wiring in the abs module. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 38,000.

3 Structure problem of the 2007 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 06/08/2011

Occasionally, the power sliding door on the drivers side closes and then reopens about 6-12" and has to be closed by hand. There have been several times when the same door opens all the way and it can't be closed, either by power or by hand. It will remain open until it gets ready for you to close it. The time frame varies but usually 10-15 minutes. Several times, while driving with all of the doors closed and locked, the same sliding door will open a couple of inches and I have to stop and manually close it. The van has been in the shop several times and each of the described incidents still happen from time to time. The repair technicians cannot duplicate the problem so no corrective action can be taken. It's just a matter of time before someone falls out of the vehicle while it is moving and is either severely injured of killed.

4 Structure problem of the 2004 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 12/20/2009

The front windshield first started making creaking and popping noises. Then a leak began in the same area of the noises. Water leaks onto the floor near the brake pedal and causes a slippery surface under my feet. Now I have been told that the entire window frame of the front windshield is moving when the car moves and could pop out of place or shatter while driving.

5 Structure problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 01/15/2009

After heavy rain or prolonged rain periods, the cargo area in the back of the van saturates (floods) with water. This was first noticed when the van was parked for the first time outside the garage during the storm of the end of 2008 in the snohomish, washington area. Since then, this problem presisted until now. The kia dealer, where the van was bought from as new vehicle, attempted to fix the leak 4 times. The first time they claimed that they sealed body leaks at third brake light and left rear wheel well, but the leak showd up again at the cargo area during the following rain event. The second repair attempt, the dealer claimed that they installed sop rear hatch weatherstrip due to deformation. Again the leak presisted and the cargo area was flooded later. The third attempt, the kia dealer found that the rear hatch seal was not installed correctly, and they claimed that they cleaned, resealed, and rechecked and no leak. Again the leak returned agin flooding the cargo area. The dealer claimed that they found a leak in the roof seam, and claimed that they cleaned the seam and sealed the seam and sealed the rear seat bolt holes as the fourth repair. Stil the leak returned. A fifth repair by the dealer was replacing the rear hatch seal. Still the problem of the leak exists saturating the cargo. In addition, mold started growing visible around the cup holders on the secon and third row of the driver side, and the driver seat belt in the area where the belt slides into it's compartment. I found in the last two month a rust stain in the dome light compatment above the front seats. The battery dies within short perioge of time as short as about 2 hours which leads me to believe that the high moisture in the van caused electrical problem that exhausted the battery. Colder weather outside the van tends to fog the windows to the point of impairing visibility due to the high moisture and condensation on the windows.

6 Structure problem of the 2004 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 07/14/2008

Vehicle floorboard got hot and melted the wiring harness under carpet. Kia dealer found no cause for the excessive heat but replaced the wiring at my expense.

7 Structure problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 04/01/2007

Manufacturer defect in air conditioning compressor; I bought my 2006 kia Sedona brand new in December. When I began to use the ac in the spring, the driver side was not producing the same cold air as the passenger side or the back ac. I took my vehicle back to dealership twice, the second time I was told that I must have had a collision with some road debris and caused the defect. They stated they put freon in and "it ran out as fast as we put it in" ~ I stated freon is a gas ~ shouldn't it have evaporated? they said it would cost $1100 to fix it, and I stated what about my warranties, they stated that because it was my fault that I had to pay. They told me to contact my insurance company, when I did this the insurance company stated that it would be listed as a collision and my insurance premiums would go up. When I went to pick up my vehicle, I was driving home in 100+ degree temps, through rush hour traffic with my infant; the ac air was hotter than the outside temperature. (I actually made the manager of the store come outside to feel the air before leaving the dealership. ) I took my kia to a second dealership who clearly stated as soon as they looked at my vehicle, "OH that is a manufacturer defect", but since the dealership (where I bought my kia) had put into the computer that I had caused the problem, kia would not warranty my part. So much for the warranty and extended warranty!! needless to say, the second dealership added freon and my vehicle still has cold air, that was 9 months ago! the first dealership was also supposed to fix my handles and hood; when I first bought my vehicle, the hood paint was messed up and the plastic on the handles was melted on. It took 2 trips to the dealership and the workmanship substandard! they said they would change out my handles, instead they decided to repaint my handles, what a job they did!! they used spray paint and got droplets all on my inside door panels! I'm finished with kia products!.

8 Structure problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 09/12/2006

The contact owns a 2006 kia Sedona. Both the driver and passenger side window moldings fail to repel water when the windows are lowered and raised. The molding actually separates from the window and reduces visibility. The vehicle was returned to the dealer and the molding was replaced twice. The failure was corrected on the rear windows, but still persists on the front. The dealer stated that the molding was created to simply repel water; however, this is not the case in her vehicle. The current mileage was 17,500 and failure mileage was 400. Updated 01-10-08. Updated 01/09/08.

9 Structure problem of the 2002 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 09/20/2005

Consumer belts squeal, slidding door drags, pulley was replaced at 7744 miles. ** answer required*** the pulley and belt have been replaced 10 times. The alternator seized while the vehicle was being driven. The a/c fan made loud noises. The sliding door dragged. The emergency brake would not hold, the dealer adjusted it three times then finally replaced. An internal short in the fuse clock caused the vehicle not to start. The vehicle stalled intermittenlty but the dealer was unable to duplicate the stalling. The power windows would stick and make noise, the dealer lubed it and replaced the regulator. The rear hatch rusted around handle and had to be repaired/refinished twice. The exhaust manifold racked. Oil leaked from oil filter. The front and rear wipers failed. The sliding door handle broke. The dash lights illuminated due to broken bad switch contacts. The rotors warped. The a/c was blowing when it wasn't on and sometimes it blew out warm air. The rear seat arm rest will not stay down. The threshold on the left side is cracked.

10 Structure problem of the 2004 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 12/01/2004

Recently purchased a new 2004 kia Sedona on 11/29/04 and a couple of days after I bought it I noticed evidence of rust around the bolts that hold the front seats to the chassis. After further inspection, I found numerous points of rust on the interior of the vehicle. I took to vehicle to the dealership to rectify the situation and they stated that they had never seen this type of problem before. The dealership then contacted the kia district representative to find out what to do about the problems with the rust. He informed the dealership to sand down and primer the affected areas. I told them that was not an acceptable option. So, the kia representative then had the dealership replace the front seats and sand down the remaining affected areas and primer them. When the dealership started performing the repairs they actually found significant amounts of rust underneath the dash and under the carpet. The dealership has stated that it would cost too much to completely repair the vehicle, and that I needed to file a complaint with kia consumer affairs. I did file a complaint and kia has stated that they have met their obligation to vehicle under the warranty and offered me three months car payment for my inconvenience.
