Body Problems of Kia Motor Sedona - part 1

When using the power sliding doors, specifically the driver's side, it will not close and latch 100% of the time. It usually beeps and indicates it has not closed and has to be manually closed but on two occasions has opened on it's own. Fortunately it's been while parked, which poses a whole different issue, but I've read that others are having this happen while driving.

Sliding Mini van doors fail to latch when closing. This is a well known and documented problem. The NHTSA has issued remedies for the previous year but not this one.

Sliding door malfunction. Door will not hold its weight and full force closes or opens if operating at an inclined position.

Sliding door trys to continue to open when already open all the way, it try’s to open too far, jams and clicks, then beeps.

I got an oil leak and it was covered but it caused a coolant leak and the dealership wants to charge me for this when it should be covered . Also I went a couple of times for my door coming open while I am driving and they didn’t fix it .

Right power sliding door stopped closing all the way and would constantly beep. Now, power sliding door opens too far which has broken the motors causing the beeping to resume. This is an safety issue as anything hanging out the window would be crushed (such as a child's head or extremity). We have done a fuse reset as suggested by kia, then also replaced the motor and the actuator, and it still opens too far which broke the motor again. We again brought it to kia and they do not know what to do. Now, the left hand door is starting to have the same problem. Yesterday, the door stopped mid-way. When replacing the door actuator system, we learned that the left side door actuator was in the right side door. It was not made correctly.

Paint peeling.

The paint is chipping on the entire vehicle exterior. I have searched online and this seems to be a common problem. The vehicle is a 2017, which is way too quick for the paint to be chipping off.

Door is grinding and not latching on the power sliding door. Does not stop closing when something is in the way as well.

I have multiple spots of the pearl white paint peeling/flaking/bubbling off the vehicle in multiple places. 1st spot noticed was on the roof just behind the sunroof and the 2nd spot is the edge of the liftgate.

The driver side sliding door will not open all the way and gets stuck even when the power door is not engaged. The passenger side sliding door often gets stuck and will not release when the power door button is pushed.

The paint on our white kia Sedona is starting to flake off exposing the body underneath. Currently it is effecting the front edge of the hood and a much larger area is just under the rear windscreen. The paint in that area is blistering and delaminating at a rather rapid pace. At this point this vehicle is just over 9 years old. This latent defect is going to greatly devalue this vehicle and make it difficult to sell in the future.

I was driving my 2015 kia Sedona and the airbags imploded out of nowhere, I was not hurt thank god. But my front of my car got damaged and so did the air bags and my steering wheel and all that got broken. I am writing to see if I can be reimbursed as I have fix these issues but I believe they hav to do with a recall kia has. I spent a lot of money fixing it so I would like to get reimbured as I paid outa pocket for something that was a recall and a safety problem and could have been avoided. Please help me.

My daughter was driving my kia Sedona van - distracted and on wet roads ran into a firehydrant and pole. During the accident, the air bags did not employ. The passenger fell forward and broke the windshield with her head, leading to a concucussion. We are thankful for two children who are alive after this accident. We are disappointed tho that the airbags didnt protect our child more.

Took our 2015 kia Sedona for an oil change and checkup due to the engine overheating multiple times. They did the oil change at about 96k miles and said nothing was wrong with the engine. That if anything were to happen then just bring it back in. We went on a trip to georgia from miami, we got stranded there because the engine again started overheating. We got the car back and took it to kia in doral. Service department stated that the head was damaged. Sales manager says it needed a new engine that would cost us 7500 to replace. We owe 7200 on the vehicle. That would put us at 14k dollars whenit was not our fault that the engine failed at 96k miles. The sales manager at doral kia promised that they would take care of the 7200 loan if we bought a new kia carnival once they arrive in the lot. We took our kia Sedona and left it there whilr we waited a week for the kia carnival to arrive. We finally get a call and we walk in to see it. Car states on window sticker msrp $36k. We wait for them to bring the financing paper work and they put the cars msrp at $51k. Very upsetting what we encountered. Turns out that the scammers will only pay our loan off if we pay their markup of $51k for the new van. After expressing how upset we were for having wated our time, rhey try to say that the only way they could sell the new kia carnival to us at msrp of $36k is if we pay the 7200 that we owe and we leave our kia Sedona to them as trade in for zero dollars. Need this issue resolved ASAP!.

Power door (passenger side) closed on me when other door was opened. As I was putting a child into the passenger side middle row seat the passenger side sliding door closed on its own. (the door on the other side of van was opened at the same time the one began to close. ) it did not stop when it it my body and kept closing. I tried pushing on the door to stop it from continuing to close but it didn’t stop. My husband reached to push the button to open it back up. I had bruise on my arm and cut on my thigh from the door attempting to close on me.

Both sliding doors open up when going down the road and both sliding doors will not shut all the way unless u push on them hard to shut but they will still open up regardless.

Right passenger slide door on minivan opened while my son was in the car and would not close. There is a recall on this and extended 15 year warranty but kia wouldn’t honor the electronic controller that burnt out but warranted the motor. Passenger can fall out or something can hurt them. Kia dealer confirmed this and I had to pay a large repair bill for there recall defect. I am afraid to take the car anywhere except local. I feel there recall repair caused this problem. First I took it in for the recall. Next time I used that door it got stuck open. Vehicle is garaged with approximately 30,000 miles on it.

The sliding power doors no longer function properly. The door closes, and immediately unlatches. The door can be forced closed, but can and does then unlatch while driving. Kia of cape coral confirmed the doors are not latching properly due to the door motors. Kia agrees the doors are covered, but refuses to remedy the issue until the motor is unable to move the doors at all.

Drivers side power sliding door does not close. Grinds and beeps and door shows open on display. When you disengage the power feature the door does not open manually.

The sliding doors of the van do not stay closed. We could be driving down the road when they open and the chime starts going off. We find this is commonly associated with the scenerios right after the auto-close mechanism closes the door. (this is another issue as it does not reliably close the door. ) to resolve the door suddenly opening situation, we have to stop, put the vehicle in park, and usually end up having to have the driver or front passenger get out of the car, wait for the auto-close system to get close to closing and then slam the back end of the door into place to get it to hold. We did try to take it to the kia dealership in ogden utah but the service manager there said he could not reliably replicate it so could not fix it. Apparently slamming the door is considered a viable alternative to the auto-close mechanism. We were told it is not a defect and that these things happen. It should be noted for other drivers, that the auto-close mechanism does appear to be closed. The door sensor does not chime to give warning that it is not seated all the way. Instead, as mentioned, we will be driving down the road when the door will rattle and open a little ways and the chime immediately starts going off. You will slow down and it the chime will stop, but once you pull over and take a look you will see the back end of the door is open a centimeter or so. Further to this point, if you dont immediately pull over, the door can pop open the rest of the way. What is most concerning is that it can happen anytime. I ahve not found any logical rhyme or reason for the issue. However I have had kids sitting near the door when the door opened on me. Luckily the seatbelts kept them in the car even though we were caught off-guard by the suddeness of the issue.

Our kia Sedona had the cooling fan harness negative cable melt and caused making our engine overheat. When we took our vehicle to get serviced they told us that the cooling fan harness melted and then it's a common problem with kias. They fixed the pigtail cooling fan harness but are cooling fan does not turn on anymore and they said that it is now an electrical issue and this was from a kia dealership in Dodge city kansas. They recently did a recall on sliding doors because they weren't shutting all the way and it worked for exactly one day after the recall and now it's back to not shutting and making a really loud noise when it attempts to shut. When this happens we can't lock our doors because the doors won't lock when doors open and we have to constantly shut off our interior lights so that they don't stay on because the doors don't shut. We've notified the kia dealership that have done our recall on it and told them that it didn't fix it but they refuse to make it right. We only have 106,000 mi I've got a new cooling fan resistor and put it in and a new pigtail harness and put it in but the cooling fan is still not turning on the low speed and the air conditioner doesn't work either. Our engine constantly smells very hot but it doesn't indicate that it's overheating. We haven't had this vehicle for very long and because of all the problems we've had with it are considering on getting another vehicle and we're considering a carnival but are afraid to because of the way kia handles their issues.

In 2017 my Sedona was leaking water in the rear well. South austin kia accused my 135 lb dog of peeing in the rear well. He will not fit back there. After many attempts to get them to fix it and contacting corporate I was told "if I can prove it is leaking they will try to fix it". I went through a carwash climbed into the back and videotaped it. Took it back to kia of south austin and the recrimped the well. When I got my van back they had failed to reinstall the carpet and bolts. Two months ago I took my van to firestone for its oil change. 1000 miles into it my check engine light came on. We read the code and it came up no oil. We added oil, took it to firestone and there is no evidence of an oil leak. The check engine light stayed off until last night. It threw 138 codes. Never ever seen so many codes. I'm replacing this van in a couple of weeks. We are limping it. I get sever panic attacks thinking about going back to kia of south austin for the treatment that has occured.

Both of the back sliding doors do not want to close all the way and sometimes the doors open when going down the road my sister is having the same problem with her doors not closing all the way.

The left side sliding door does not completely latch when closing. I have looked for obstruction and do not see any. I and my children are very concerned that we will not completely shut the door thus causing it to open when in transit or turning resulting in an unnecessary accident, injury or fatality. Whomever is driving the car has to stand outside and push the sliding door inward as it is latching to attempt to make sur the latch is secure. Please let me know what I need to do to ensure this is addressed with the the NHTSA and/ or kia.

The sliding doors do not work all of the time I’ve had to climb through the front to the back seat to get my child or pull my child out through the back window. The cigarette lighter/charger port works and then it doesn’t, there are many electrical issues with things functioning properly.

The car odometer was about 120,000 highway miles. After run with the cruise control for about a 386 miles I stop the car in angola service station and been there for about 12 minutes with the car off the car got on fire. The electric system shut down immediately and the hood didn't open at all, rear doors didn't open electrical way just manually and the back door get completely sealed.

Sliding door does not always latch. Have to manually close it to latch properly.

Reported as far back as and paid for repair of both sliding doors staring in 2015-2021 doors at first would not open on button press no matter which button used key fob or inside vehicle had to force pull the handles to open and eventually to close. Just a week ago April 2021 while taking my elderly mother to store while parked after leaving the store, the passenger side sliding door stuck in the open position and no amount of force nor button push would close it. In March of 2021 I received notification from kia of limited warranty extension (wty018) which specifically lists power sliding door lactching for 2011 to 2014 Sedona's. I reported the door not closing at all which happened on a Saturday when parts was likely closing for the day and when I finally got through to them on Monday dropped the car off to my same kia dealership that has done all of the repairs and place of purchase they looked at the vehicle and informed me they were not sure the roller was covered under the warranty and I would be charged $750 and only the the latch and motor of the door was covered (all parts of the same mechanism) I declined the repair being they wanted me to pay rented my own out of pocket rental for a week because I am an essential worker while I contacted kia corporate directly by phone with my issues and how rude they were trying to explain how parts of the door would not be covered the car is undrivable being the door remains open going into week two out of my own pocket I finally got someone from corp to acknowledge something is wrong and was told they would fix it in "good will" four days ago I am still without a car while they wait for part they needed and called back today to corp who called the dealer and somehow part came in "last night" but they can't pick up till Monday to fix again I am without my car and work for the county tax admin office.

The sliding passenger doors of the van do not completely latch. Driving down the highway when door alarm starts going off and sliding door starts opening up. At that point I have to pull over and power off the doors and try to get them to latch with power again. If that doesn't work. I have to have one of my kids hold the doors shut with their foot until we can get home safely. This only happens intermittently. Other times loading into the van; the door will act like it's latching and then door alarm goes off and beeps and ricochets open again. Not able to close the door in a stationary position even with power off; leaving the car unusable. When I turn the power off and try to close manually after this type of episode. It won't latch sometimes as well. Sometimes it will reset it self. This too happens intermittently. Kia is aware of the issue; has sent out a letter to extend the warranty for this. However, if I cannot reproduce these things for them at the time of appointment; they will not honor their warranty extension to make the repair because I cannot reproduce the dangerous scenario right in front of them. This is very very dangerous. Because this happens intermittently; �reproducing the issue� in order to make this repair for the safety of my children is a loophole for kia not to fix this. I'm requesting you investigate this dangerous problem. The case number with kia is 14095557 the new vehicle limited vehicle extension is : 2011-2014 my Sedona power sliding door latching.

While driving when I use my turn signals the headlights will either flash high beams or completely go out then back on. Also my driver's side sliding door doesn't shut completely with the power door option this just started around the 100k mile mark.

On 2015 model kia Sedonas the sliding door motors may become faulty and cause the sliding doors to not close all the way. When you push the button to close the door it gets almost closed and then makes a loud grinding noise followed by a beep in the cabin and a notification on the instrument cluster letting you know that the door did not fully close. If you drive with the door in this state it is not fully latched and presents a safety issue as the door could open while driving or in the case of impact. The TSB is attached to this case.

Driver side sliding door does not close completely. Must push on back side for it to close. Blinkers don't work properly. Put on left blinker and right blinker turns on. Occasionally it will work correctly. I had the door recall fixed and the service person thought it would fix all the problems but it did not. Then a few months later the brake lights stopped working. Only the top brake light works on the window.

Passenger side slider door has opened while driving, enough to turn on interior lights and can hear wind noise toward back of door. Dash indication also shows open.
