Body Problems of Kia Motor Sorento - part 2

Paint has peeled off and continues to peel off from many places on the vehicle. One large spot is on top where no debris from the road hits. Since this has started it has only gotten worse. I believe the entire car will be paint free if this situation is not rectified. Currently there are five different locations where the paint has peeled off. Color of my vehicle is snow white pearl.

Above the windshield on the driver's side, paint is progressively peeling away with regular operation of my pearl-white 2017 kia Sorento. What began as a very small and barely noticeable chip in the paint has progressed to a large paint-less spot. On the hood and surrounding areas, paint chips are appearing as well. According to the auto body repair shop I received an estimate from, this is referred to as "delamination" and is a result of poor quality paint or craftsmanship in the manufacturing process. The auto body shop said this is a recurring issue in white kia Sorentos specifically. Many other owners of white kia Sorentos have reported this same issue.

My vehicle's snow pearl white paint is flaking off in large chunks on the windshield pillars (both sides), as well as chipping all over the body. The chipping began in 2018 (2 years after purchase) and the large chunks began in 2022. Paint chunks have flown off my car while driving on the highway. Missing paint is now leading to the body of the car rusting. My car is available for inspection. The dealership has inspected the problem and informed me I am not the first person they have encountered with this same problem. It is specifically common with snow pearl white paint. Bubbles are forming under the paint in other spots now, and I am worried about the possibility of it coming off in larger chucks on the hood- which could possibly create a projectile/vision obstruction. I have provided photos to the manufacturer in 2022 and started a case number. I have not heard back since.

Non working door handles which is a known issue with kia! extremely dangerous obstruction in an event of an emergency where occupants need to get in and out of the vehicle. The ineffective door handles also makes the car less secure because someone who is not authorized can access the safety measures that the vehicle has. This is not right that kia customers have to spend hundreds for an ongoing issue! this is two out of the four doors now. I replaced one door handle already for well over $300. 00! now will need to spend another three hundred plus dollars for the same issue! again, this is a known kia issue! I was originally told there was a recall but only for the back handles and not the front handles in 2020. Now, I am being told it was a warranty and it expired in 2021/2022. A warranty was never relayed to me in any way. No email or mailed letter explaining this. If under "warranty" and again, a known kia issue why were the backs covered but not the front if they are the same handles? why not replace all four handles under the said "warranty"? this is a major issues for kia owners like myself. Also having an issue where when it rains, water will come in from the passenger side panel and back trunk panels. Kia said it was the drains. Kia cleared the drains for well over $200. 00. Next rain fall and the same issue still remained. Kia then said it was the moonroof assembly and would not get back to me with a remedy to solve the issue. I reached out again and I spoke to the general manager who said he would call me back and never did. I took it to another company who handles moonroofs/sunroofs and has said it is due to the paint separating in the grooves where the assembly sits and is a manufactural issue.

The paint on my car is peeling off. Attached is pictures of the top of the back door window(in back of the driver’s seat)and the flap on top of the back window. The paint is snow white.

My vehicle has the snow white pearl paint on it, and it has been peeling from years. I have taken this to a number of body shops and they say its a factory defect. Kia acknowledges that it is a defect and have offered if I got it fixed to submit a case to see if they would reimburse it, however, this is over 10k out of pocket.

The suspension mounting block rusted off the frame and the frame rusted into on the passenger rear side of the car it was good that we were running slow close to the house when it happened if that would’ve come loose at highway speeds, the car would probably flipped the vehicle is now undrivable.

I have a 2014 pearl white Sorento sx. After washing my car recently, two area showed up that have started to delaminate. I talked with my insurance company who came out and told me there are known problems with especially the pearl white on kia Sorento so they wouldn't cover anything. Unfortunately those two areas are spreading and three new areas are cropping up. Based on what I've learned since the insurance company informed me of the problem, other pearl white Sorento owners (2014 and other years) are experiencing continuing delamination. It seems highly likely the delamination will only continue to get worse which will severely impacts the value of the car. I spent several thousand getting an extended warranty that is still good through 125000 miles, with the thought that, in addition to providing protection from a significant problem with the car (e. G. , engine, transmission, etc. ) it would also increase the value when I decide to sell. The warranty does not cover paint (I don't believe any extended warranties do). I am sure that I've now lost 25-50% of the value of the car which is very, very upsetting. I haven't contacted the dealer I had been going to because they let me drive my car off the lot after servicing it and they forgot to put oil in. Thank god I had an inspection appointment the next with a local shop who showed me the problem. The paint problem is obviously a latent defect. I believe kia should take responsibility for the problem, but I am fairly sure they won't unless there is a recall. So I am hoping that with enough complaints a recall will be issued. A rain storm came and I left my car out of the garage and the rain peeled off huge parts of my paint. There is no reason that my car last paint should have been washed off from rain.

Large paint chips on hood and passenger door frame near windshield. Smaller paint chips along hood. Looks almost like an eggshell cracking and just started happening in the last couple of months.

Pearl white paint peeling off with less than 100k miles.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? the paint all over the car had begun to delaminate and its only a 2013. The entire front of the hood, the side bar of the windshield on both the passenger and driver sides, and the roof along the windshield are flaking off manufacturers paint in large sheets. The back side has begun to develop small chips that will eventually match the front. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? because the loss of the protective paint on my car can and has been leading to rust issues on the metal underneath the paint. This is known to weaken the vehicle's body structure. This is especially problematic in potential areas of the car that are prone to collision, thereby compromising the vehicles safety over time, if allowed to continue to delaminate. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? all across the internet people are posting their pictures of their white kia Sorento having the exact issue mine has. Also in the small town I live in there are at least 10 people who drive a white kia Sorento like mine and each one is losing their paint to peeling and delamination. Just driving across California you can see that this is a manufacturing issue that has effected most all their customers who bought a white kia from 2013 - 2018. After reading this question I am making an appointment to go into an official kia dealership to address this issue and get their feedback and hopefully a resolution on their end. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? I have not had anyone inspect it to date, but intend on getting an appointment with kia at their next available opening. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? there were no precursors. Car was perfect when I purchased.

Attempted theft with injury kia's reputation has caused this vehicle to be at risk for theft. Many resulting in injury. Kia had vehicle in 2023 and completed "upgrade" and placed stickers on the windows. Vehicle was still targeted. Insurance rates are insane for this as a result.

While driving, heard a loud noise like a large rock hit the top of my 2018 kia Sorento sxl, which I just purchased four days ago with 44,441 miles on it~ when I stopped to inspect the panorama sunroof, front panel was shattered could see no impact point of a rock or anything hitting it- researching online seems this happens a lot to kia vehicles with a panorama sunroof. Also Hyundai and BMW ~seems there is a defect in the material with this occurring for no apparent reason in different weather conditions -garage kept or whatever ~ also read where a repair man stated to a customer plan on it happening again in a year~ lot of Sorento issues with this problem- I could have wrecked my car- when exploded it was loud and frightening- just occurred yesterday, so have not reported it to manufacturer -insurance company- anyone with all the complaints from 2011-present it should have already been a recall or the problem fixed.

My cars white paint is coming off the body. My car is loosing oil really fast.

I was t boned while driving aprox 25 30 non of my air bags deployed and to bolts holding the door had the head shear off while bolts were still stuck in door frame.

My SUV has paint that is peeling off of the SUV that is not due to damage or something external to the paints surface. The color is pearl white and has been documented by many owners of cars kia's with the pearl white paint color. The location on the passenger side a pillar is also a common starting point for this paint issue.

Issue occurred and came to like during the past winter snow storm. The hood of the SUV does not allow and blocks the wiper blade arm from being lifted in order to clean ice off the wiper blade nor can the wiper arm be lifted to clear ice and snow under the wiper arm to allow proper operation. This design flaw does not allow safe and clear sight function of the windshield wipers.

Snow white pearl paint bubbles and has peeled away from body of SUV around window shield. 2014 kia Sorento with 60,000 miles on it.

Paint on ridge above driver side window began delaminating and completely eroded over a day. This happened while the car was parked without any rain or other impact.

The paint on my SUV began to peel off. I have pictures documenting the issue, and the car has been temporarily fixed. The safety of myself and others wasn't directly compromised. The problem has been confirmed by other kia owners experiencing similar issues with the same paint type. A body shop inspected the vehicle, but it hasn't been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. There were no warning signs prior to the paint peeling.

The door latch behind the driver side of the vehicle does not work. It will not open from the outside of the vehicle. This is a safety concern especially since this is my teenage daughter's car. I have called kia, and they will not honor this repair since the car was purchased and used in January 2024. I also have another 2011 kia Sorento with the same issue. This is definitely a problem with kia and this should be repaired regardless of how old the vehicle is since it is due to a defect in the product.

I left my car outside in a light rainstorm while at work. When I arrived back at my car I noticed something off about my paint, I soon discovered it was a water bubble in my paint, this caused my paint to fall off leaving my vehicle with a large chunk of missing paint.

Both passenger doors and the driver door will not open from the outside. All three have malfunctioned out of nowhere for no reason.

The paint on my car start peeling out of nowhere… the hood of the car 12/26/2023 and the roof of the car 2/09/2024 peeled off in the rain I have pictures and videos… kia said warranty only covers 36000 miles or 3 years on the car so they couldn’t help me …plus as the paint peels u can see the car was painted with no primer for the paint to stick …. I paid my car off to have it fall apart on me this is not acceptable. . My car only has 63000 miles it shouldn’t be falling apart already … I’m having issues with the engine burning excessive oil . . Please help a very concerned client.

The vehicle is in immacutlate condition and when I went to wash it yesterday I noticed what appear to be a spot. When I sprayed with water the paint peeled off and I noted that it is dowing this on other spots on the bumper. I take excellent care of this car and to see paint peeling off when the car has not even done 100,000 miles is very disappointing. Only to find that kia has had compaints and it is documented that many customers have had issues with the snow white pearl paint peeling. Why has kia not offered to rectify the situation. The vehicle is available for inspection but it is my understanding that kia only warranty's the paint for one year. I have sent photos to indicate how well the car has been mainatined as well as the peeling paint. The system will not allow me to upload files it skips to personal info. Photos available.

My 2016 kia Sorento started about 2 months to peel, it was a quarter size spot and now is getting bigger every day !!.

Kia sorrento 2013 white paint peeling off all over my car. At first I thought it was my fault, but I take great care of my car and this has never happened before. Large sections of the paint are peeling off on the drivers side door as of most recent (11/23) and the top began peeling off around (10/21)and only solution is to strip and repaint the entire car which is extremely costly. According to my research many kia owners with this paint have the same issue and it should not be ignored.
