When oil changed, been told that there is no oil in car. No warning lights come on. Oil has to be added before next oil change due. Not on recall list but having same problems as other 2016 kia Souls with it burning oil and check engine light coming on for catalytic converter - but does not stay on.
I have a 2016 kia Soul, base model 1. 6l. Attaching recall notice, as I do not know the number (there have been 2 that I know of) after receiving product improvement campaign notice dated 4/6/2021, I notified my kia dealership in which I purchased the vehicle (7301 new lagrange rd, louisville ky 40222) and was told the next available appointment to do the recall update was 2 weeks from when I called, I asked if it was safe to drive since the recall is about engine fires and my engine light was on. I was told it would be fine, this was a "software update" but unfortunately, the rate at which my engine was burning oil, the day before my schedule recall appointment (5/11/21), my engine apparently blew while I was driving on the hwy. Prior to the smoke coming out the back, I heard clicking and then what seemed like something shooting out from the bottom of my car. The oil that I had put in (even though I was not due for an oil change) was leaking as they towed my kia to the dealership. I did not hear back about my car until I reached out for the 3rd time Friday 5/14/21, where the tech told me I needed a replacement engine and Kia Motors will not cover it, stating it was because "there is an open recall for my engine and I had not had the recall completed" I have opened a case with kia customer affairs. Kia service center was unable to give me the date that the recall started. I do know that my car was serviced for a recall prior to this, 3/31/2020, in which there had been so much damage to the catalytic converter, it needed replaced. That was covered under the recall apparently, but for some reason this most recent recall is now showing that it is no longer open according to my VIN on the NHTSA website. So the dealership must have cleared it, but still claims it was not completed so that they are refusing to replace my engine, quoting me $6. 3k should be covered 100%.
Excessive oil consumption. Kia dealer states after performing two oil consumption tests back to back at 1000 miles each that the engine needs replaced. Kia will not replace engine as vehicle has now passed the 60,000 mile engine warranty. Vehicle has 65,000 miles. Dearler states that I have to pay.
Last month I took my car to the dealership for an ecu update which kia is calling a product improvement campaign for the cars computer system to put it into limp home mode, now a month later while on my way home from work when I turned onto a street 2 nights in a row the oil light was flashing but went off after I made it through the turn, and I checked the oil level the second night and the dipstick had little to no visible oil on it but the oil light still does not illuminate when driving or when idiling only when turning with momentum, but the 2. 0 engines are known to destroy themselves due to rod bering damage and that update they did served to five and early alert as to when it detects knock but these engines are also known to burn oil and the 2014-2015 model years are recalled for engine fires but kia should recall all these engines since they burn oil and are dangerous to drive because the oil light is not illuminating when the oil is critically low and now engine damage may already be present on top of the known defect in these engines.
Recall 19v120000; sc176 excessive oil consumption. Manufacturer will not honor warranty and is aware of problem. I am being told costs involved with this issue are not warranty and to be paid out of pocket despite known problem.
Kia and dealer aware of this vehicle consuming excessive amounts of oil which could catastrophically cause engine failure with a high risk of driver/passenger death if vehicle runs out of oil. Kia is unwilling to replace/repair/fix the problem. This lack of acknowledgement by booth the auto manufacturer and the dealer is just cause for negligence and may result in death or fatal injury. The vehicle is at 65,000 miles and has had two oil consumption tests performed by spitzer kia, cleveland, ohio at 1000 mile intervals. The problem is well known to the auto manufacturer and they will not intervene with replacement. Engine fire could cause accident, and or death to occupants and or other victims if engine runs out of oil and creates excessive heat. Warning lights do not illuminate to warn driver and occupants of danger. A law firm suggests reaching out to NHTSA to resolve.
Engine loses 3 quarts of oil between scheduled oil changes. Started at around 70k miles and is getting worse (now at 90k miles). There is no indication of low oil or problem in the driver controls. No smoke from burning oil. This is a safety hazard as the engine can die suddenly with no warning. I have two of these cars and both have the same problem. This should be investigated as there are many of these cars on the road and it is clearly a design flaw.
Was driving car and it lost power while on highway. Causing cars to swerve to avoid hitting me. After going to shop found out it was the catalytic converter. Car was also burning oil and misfiring. Had the 3 and 4 coil relpaced ,spark plugs , but still not able to figure out what us causing oil to burn. Car had regular oil changes. Kia basically said that after I fix the coils car would be fine . Well it's not still doing the same thing. I was informed that it just needs a new engine. Kia has refused to honor warranty.
I was getting dinner, and I admit that I pulled out rather swiftly and punched the gas, cause people in my area are very aggressive, however having the engine stall, should not have happened,or should I say my engine took a turn for the worst and stopped working for good. So here I was stalled in the middle of a busy hwy and people were honking and going around me. This was not a spot where I could just pull over. So I pushed the car to the next perking lot. I almost got hit initially and almost broke both my ankles trying to push this over sized toy vehicle. Towed it to the shop and I got a $6000 bill for a clunked engine. Now,prior to all this I didn't do many oil changes, however, how could I when the oil kept burning up. This always puzzled me as to why I kept having to put oil in it,with no visible oil leaks. I think that this engine also had a problem similar to the 192vwhatever engine. I think I had 130,000 miles on this vehicle, but I had no other problems with it. It may have had a lot of where and tear on it,but it should never have done this much damage. I think the,"NHTSA" should do some investigating on this and I will get to the bottom of this for everyone that had this problem.
2016 kia Soul high oil consumption now I am losing power it will stall at 60 down to 40 while driving on the highway . Was told my car was not recalled for the same problems of other recalls pertaining to this car. When it was under warranty they refused to do anything now at 83,400 they told me that my warranty has ended .
The kia Soul 1. 6 engine has been recalled due to oil consumption related to excessive catalytic converter heat. I submit to you that the investigation needs to be expanded to include the 2. 0 engine. I believe specifically related to the special edition cars that have the larger sized wheels standard wheel is 16" these come with 18" and I believe that these vehicles are subject to the same issue as the 1. 6 due to the engine working harder to provide power to run the 18" wheels. I have so far suffered extreme oil loss on 4 occasions. They have done oil consumption tests and required me to bring my vehicle in at my inconvenience a great number of times. With one time having th oil down by 1 quart. But outside of this I have had it go down on me outside of these tests on those 4 occasions so that the dip stick barely had oil on it and my engine was tapping. Only once did the check engine light come on and stay on and another time I happened to see it blink once. This extreme oil loss on these special edition 2. 0 vehicles will lead to the same issues as experienced on the 1. 6 engine. And so far as I am concerned I am now paying monthly payments on a vehicle that must have internal damage as a result of this manufacturing error. Please consider further review of these vehicles as they relate to the 2. 0 engine and special editions with larger wheels. If you would like I do have a video of the oil level on my dipstick from this past Saturday that I can also send. Please believe me this is a recurring dangerous situation that is being overlooked> I have a 2010 kia Soul which does nto have the new technology and ive had no issues with that car and it has about 150k miles. I also run a scion xb that I have maintained and it has over 220k miles. My cars are cared for and ive never seen anything like this before.
My 2016 kia Soul is under a recall due to burning oil that wrecked the candle at a converter in has the potential of throwing a rod. I threw a rod and took it to the dealership in the dealership is trying to say it's like a mint maintenance not the actual problem of the burning oil which is a cause for lawsuits towards kia. The dealership and kia are refusing to fix the car even knowing it is under a recall and what happened to my car is part of the recall. I have talked to the dealership in I have talked to people at the kis at customer care and they are refusing to fix it.
On 6-10-19 the 2. 0l engine failed in my 2016 kia Soul+ with less than 40,000 miles. The dealership determined this was due to a "manufacturer defect" and will be "repaired under warranty. " the service department at the kia dealership stated the cylinders in the block were "out of round. " they said it appeared that allow oil to get burned with the exhaust and burn up in the catalytic converter. This caused high amounts of carbon build up in the catalytic converter. I have no time frame as to when my vehicle will be repaired and returned to me.
Tl the contact owns a 2016 kia Soul. The contact stated that the vehicle was burning an excessive amount of oil. The contact checked the oil and noticed that the dipstick was dry; however, the oil was dark after it was changed. In addition, the check engine indicator was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to matthews auto group (3721 vestal rd d, vestal, NY 13850, (607) 584-5354) where an oil consumption test was performed. It was determined that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of oil, but there were no visible leaks. The dealer stated that the engine needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not contacted. The contact stated that the failure was similar to NHTSA campaign number: 19v120000 (engine, engine and engine cooling). The failure mileage was 116,000.
I leased a 2016 kia Soul ! for my daughter. At the end of the lease (August 2018), I paid purchased the vehicle from the kia. 31 may 2019 while driving her car the engine seized in the middle of the road. It was towed to dutch miller kia of charlotte. The car had 51,188 miles. After a week the dealer told us the car wasn't going to be covered under warranty. I then filed a complaint with kia customer relations who reviewed the case and did nothing to help. I spoke with the service manager, brant blackwelder who agreed to speak with the district service manager to see if there was anything that could be done. On 26 June, they stated they would extend a "good faith" offer of replacing the engine, but I would be responsible for the labor ($1,700 estimated). During the 3 months it took to rebuild the engine, I was forced to pay for alternate transportation and paid $1,517. 47 in rental car and lyft fees. The car has had regular oil changes as directed by the maintenance minder. The last oil change was in January when the vehicle had 44,586 miles (6,6602 miles ago). There were no indications the engine was low on oil: the maintenance minder, check engine light, nor the low oil light ever came on. During my conversation with the service manager on 25 June, he admitted that kia engines have a problem with burning excessive amounts of oil even after as little as 2,000 miles from an oil change. At no time did kia disclose this issue of engines burning oil to me or other owners. While this car has the 2. 0-liter engine that isn't currently under recall, I believe this is a similar case to the 379,000 kia 1. 6-liter engines that have been previously recalled. Kia is simply passing the blame on to customers for a known issue with their faulty engines. This issue is similar to the 1. 6l engines needs to be recalled.
