1 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Soul

Failure Date: 09/13/2020

Intermittent loss of brakes (no pressure, straight to the floor, pumping does not help), extremely difficult to replicate on command. After loss of brakes in a parking lot, then at an intersection, replaced all rotors/pads, master cylinder and no leaks or other warning signs. Given issue with replication, never received a diagnostic code after 4 weeks of trying. Replaced abs system, as only option left to fix a braking issue, and issue appears to be resolved. Kia has had problems with abs modules but only recalled for certain vehicles with fire hazard. Spent thousands of dollars trying to resolve this issue and could not drive due to safety hazard for over 1 month while trying to figure out the problem.

2 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2019 Kia Motor Soul

Failure Date: 03/14/2019

While braking, the brake pedal is going to the floor board: scary. Not every time--intermittently. What if the brakes fail altogether? we bought the car new and within the first 400 miles experienced the problem. It was in the shop from 3/16 to 3/21 they replaced the master cylinder and cylinder assembly. They finished it just in time for my husband's planned vacation. The vacation included driving the kia over 2000 miles. On the way back, still over 700 miles from home and just prior to travelling through the smokey's, the brakes have the same problem. I'm typing this as I fret about whether he will make it home safely. I called the shop he is scheduled to go back in on Monday. I hope he makes it home safely to get to that appointment and that they can really correct the problem.

3 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2017 Kia Motor Soul

Failure Date: 04/20/2018

On Friday, April 20, 2018, on a major highway, traffic began to slow and as I applied my brakes, they felt as though they traveled to the floor, and even though I had plenty of space to stop, I was unable to and was in an accident. The car was repaired by a non-kia dealer via my insurance. Within two days of me having the vehicle back in my possession, it happened again, this time while coming to a slow gradual stop at a light. I took the vehicle to my local dealership, price kia, to report the concern. After multiple test drives, they felt the brakes traveling too far and replaced the master cylinder, with the claim that this could be the "only possible cause. " over the next few months, the car has been back into the dealership for the same issue; it had not been resolved with the replacement of the master cylinder. Price kia now claims the issue isn't relocatable and refuses to do anything about it. Should further documentation be needed the work orders, accident report, and other documentation can be provided.

4 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Soul

Failure Date: 06/24/2014

The vehicle has been making scraping noises when the brake is applied. My mechanic assumed it was the front brakes although it only has 14k miles on it. The front brakes and rotors are fine but the back rotors have grooves through them and the brakes themselves are mottled looking. Concerned that this is a mechanical problem and the car is still under warranty, the mechanic told me to contact the dealer. I took it to the dealer who said #1-he could not hear the scraping and #2-the brakes are fine with plenty of wear left on them. When I questioned why the back rotors would wear before the front and why they would be worn at all with only 14k he had no answer. Since there was enough wear remaining on the rear rotors there was no action required by them. Master cylinder? e-brake?.

5 Brake Master Cylinder problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Soul

Failure Date: 05/02/2014

Shortly after buying my new 2014 kia Soul in March 2014, I noticed that acceleration delayed usually from a stop light, stop sign or stop/go traffic and would need to pump gas for car to move then it will take off quick and almost become out of control, also feels as though lose power steering and proper braking. Dealer service could not find any error codes on scan so no fix. After 2nd attempt to look at problem I was told by service manager that if I was driving in eco mode that could be the issue. If kia knows this why even offer that mode? I also have a problem with the passenger front seat belt that only allows slight movement before it locks tight and does not retract without unlatching completely. Upon inspecting other cars on lot with service manager we found the optima, Soul, sportage all do the same thing on passenger front only allowing extending the seatbelt/or movement about halfway forward before it locks and will not retract. The gas mileage listed on window tag was over-inflated at 27 mpg it seems to average closer to 23-24 mpg. Finally I was in an accident which I rear-ended someone at stoplight and while I felt there should have been plenty of time to stop the brakes did not feel as though they worked at all, the car just kept going, the weather was dry. It was suggested by a brake & tire specialist to go to dealer for full inspection, but I hesitate to return to kia do to all my other issues that can¿¿t be figured out because the diagnostics can never find an error code. I will be taking my car in for a complete tear down by a 3rd party brake specialist for brake/sensor/master cylinder inspection as I don't even feel safe to drive this new car with approx 17,000 miles. I have since opened a case with kia consumer assistance due to the many ongoing issues.
