The contact owns a 2009 kia Spectra. While driving 50 mph, the contact rear-ended the preceding vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy and the seat belt did not lock. There were no injuries and a police report was filed. The vehicle has stalled at least five times since the time it was purchased. The contact feels that the vehicle is unable to be driven and wants a refund or another vehicle from kia. The current mileage was 29,000 and failure mileage was 13,000. Updated 06/03/09 the windshield wipers worked intermittently, the rear lights were inoperative. The consumer stated the rear lights were replaced several times, because they were shortening out,. I bought my 2003 kia Spectra brand new, kept up with oil changes and maintenance,my transmission went out at 71,ooo miles. I had the so called 100,000 mile warranty on it. They did not cover any of it they said because I live in GA it gets hot,so the warranty wont cover it. Also,I was recently in a fender bender and my air bags did not deploy, and we have also had several trips to the kia place because of minor stuff such as the air not working and the check engine light continually staying on. The 2003 kia Spectra's are a joke and if you live were it gets hot or too cold your warranty is of non effect.

I recently purchased a 2005 kia Spectra which has a faulty transmission--a fact not disclosed by the dealership at the time of purchase. A visit to the dealership last week revealed other kia Spectras have a similar problem with hard shifting and that kia has the matter "under investigation". I need to know what's going to be done about the problem.

The power train in my car shifts very hard and it seems like it is going to fall out of the car. Have had the car in to be fixed by the dealer twice and tomorrow will be the third time.
My fiance's bought a kia Spectra. . . . I have noticed for awhile that at freeway speeds its ok. . . Getting to and coming down from freeway speeds however is a interesting time. . . The car for about 2-3 secs. Revs and doesn't slam but seems to ease into gear then jerks forward. . . Passing other vehicles is not done often due to this problem. And when getting on the off ramp the motor down shifts and revs. Way to high then same as before eases into gear and jerks backwards. Then while on city streets the transmission has a much larger stall before getting into gear 4-5 secs. And this time is slams into gear producing torque steer. I had her take it in and said they couldn't find anything. So I never further persuade it. . Because nothing was going to be done. Have worked at a dealership before. They did however see that the speedo would flip out and not work at sit at 40 mph at a dead stop then as you got to 20 mph it would climb insanely then sit there they have fixed it 3 times and the third seemed to be the charm. So I am wondering if there has been a recall about there transmissions. I don't remember when exactly when this happened but mileage was about 15k and still happens till this day at 58k. So I drive it because I worry for her safety and my sons.
Every time I take off from a stop sign ect. My transmission kicks when shifting first to second gear. In an automatic,it is rare. It is only a 2003 too. I have had people tell me that transmissions are designed like that. Bull!!!.
Transmission housing exploded, company refuses to back warranty.

I was stopped in traffic at a light and upon the light turning green I pushed the accelerator and my tachometer needle went up to 4 and higher until I took my foot off the gas. Upon pushing the gas pedal again it did the same thing (in the middle of traffic) and I had to shift into neutral while going about 35 mph and back into drive. My kia still didn't want to shift so I put it back into neutral again and pushed the gas pedal to rev the rpms and then put back into drive and it drove ok. This happened a few months after buying the car and the kia dealer said nothing was wrong with vehicle. It continues to happen unpredictably.
We have a 2003 kia Spectra. This car came with a 100k mile warranty. When we bought the car in December of 2003 it had only 79 miles on it. In December of 2004 with only 23,000 miles on it, it got stuck in the snow in the road blocking traffic. We had to push the car out of the street. After pushing for a short time transmission burned up and is now destroyed. I live in northern kentucky so I get snow occasionally. Does this mean that anyone living where it snows should not by a kia? I am aware of the stipulation in the warranty that the warranty does not cover damage done by snow, ice, road debris etc. My argument is that I have had other cars, a Saturn for instance with close to 100k miles on it. It had gotten stuck in the snow several times when I lived in ohio. I had to push it out of a snow drift, spun the tires. Never did I have a trouble with the transmission. Never would I think that a new car would be destroyed that easily, nor do I think that it is right for the dealer to say it is all my fault. Are kia owners not supposed to try to get to work if it snows. This is kentucky, not michigan. I think purchasers should be aware of this. I consider this to be a defect in the car. For instance, a cooler part that ?may? have metal particles in it, has to be replaced and was priced at $400. When I contacted kia's corporate head quarters directly I was told that they could not do anything because the district manager had inspected the car and made the final decision.
While driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The consumer tried to restart the vehicle and was not able to do so. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection. The mechanic informed the consumer that the transmission needed to be replaced. Please provide further details.

On several instances my car has not shifted into a higher gear when taking off from a stop sign. I have taken the car to the dealer twice and they have not found anything wrong. This has happened on the following dates: 9/11, 9/12, 9/20, and twice on 9/23.
Transmission gear will not change. Vehicle locked while in traffic. Dealer was not able to duplicate the problem. The transmission continued to lock up and produced a burning smell.
The vehicle would not accelerate more than 50 miles per hour. The consumer took the vehicle to the repair, but the problem still continued.
While driving at any speed and no warning the automatic transmission, will not shifting properly when vehicle is changing gears. Dealer has been notified. Please provide further information.
(1)brakes feel insufficient until pressed very hard (2) 2 accidents where I as the driver rear ended drivers (3) complaint was made to sholz kia when I went to have orvr recall taken care of and they stated the brakes were normal for the model. Also: (1)occasionally when vehicle transmission is put in reverse (2) the car drives forward (3) I called sholz kia and Chrysler-Plymouth-kia or paramus and was not taken seriously.
The front panel in the consumer's 2003 kia Spectra made noise. The consumer had several problems concerning the vehicle. The drivers seat belt was broken, driver and passenger doors were inoperative, faulty speaker, the vehicle would not move forward or in reverse, there would be a clicking sound if it was forced, the vehicle would not accelerate over 30 mph for 10 minutes.
Transmission: car will not move forward, only reverse. This is the fourth time it has been in for this complaint.
Purchased the car in may of 2003, June 30th of 2003 check engine light came on and had to have the tps replaced and 3 more times to present. Have had multiple headlights replaced, heating problem, exhaust replaced. Car is now on 46,000 had transmission replaced (through an att. From lemon law) at 16,000 miles had to have tires replaced. And, now to date tires were replaced for the 5th time, brakes were done 4 times, now to find out the reason tires and brakes were needed to be replaced so many times is because the suspension is way out of alignment which seeing I have had the problem all along I now believe it was a defect all along.
We had the car only 7 weeks when the transmission died. It happened very suddenly, the check engine light came on then about 30 miles later it would barely drive to the dealership. Dt.
Consumer states that while coming to a complete stop and then trying to accelerate the vehicle will just stay in place and not move for a couple of seconds. Contacted dealer and the dealer is not willing to do anything. Nlm.
