Upon entering the highway, the transmission seemed to lag. I could not go over 50 mph. And oncoming traffic including an 18 wheeler seemed to almost stop or I would have been killed! this problem has developed over the last year where the car gets stuck in 3rd gear and acceleration is poor or the transmission does not change gears. If it sits for a while it has an engine light on and still acts up for a while then finally goes back to working correctly. The problem today was the first life threatening incident and therefore I believe it is a recall! this problem has been reported for 5 model years affected: 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, more! this is life threatening and needs to be a recall as it has been found as a software update but others on line say there is a soldering problem in the transmission. This should not be something the public should be spending money on when it is a failure due to manufacture or a software glitch or both!.

Took the car to walmart for fluid checks. About a week after leaving there, I hit an icy puddle and lost the ability to put the car in gear. After a few minutes the car recovered, but after that when the car was cold it would not go into gear. I returned to walmart who advised me they could not get the problem to occur, probably because the car was warm. Also, they advised me the transmission fluid was fine. Since the problem persisted, I took the car to the dealership, who said there was internal problems with the transmission. However experience tells me it's probably the flywheel. Now they don't want to honor the warranty claiming fluids were not changed. However the problem has nothing to do with the fluids. Also there is a similar problem, odi 10112469, which would imply this could be a defect. My car had 54,000 miles.

Without any notice at all, and without any warning, while driving at any usual city speed, the automatic transmission will not shift gears properly, causing the car to stop gaining speed while in traffic. This seems to happen more when in stop-and-go type traffic. Also, the transmission is very rough, "choppy" and gears slip often. He passenger seat belt will also lock permanently, with only a replacement fixing the problem.
