Kia Motor Sportage owners have reported 6 problems related to brake fluid leak (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Kia Motor Sportage based on all problems reported for the Sportage.
Stopped at a red light to make a left turn. Once the light turned green the brakes apparently locked up and the car would not go forward or reverse and couldn't be moved in the nuetral position and was impossible to move from traffic lane without tow truck help. When loading onto flat bed tow truck front drivers side wheel and passenger side rear wheel wouldn't turn and slid on flatbed metal. Same true at home. Online forums indicate at least three cases of this happening resulting in replacement of the master cyclinder and parts of that and power brake booster replacement to correct the problem. Apparently the brake master cyclinder leaks brake fluid into the booster causing massive brake or transmission lockup. It happens when you brake at a stop and renders you unable to move the vehicle.

I was driving when the brakes was pressed there was a terrible noise and no brakes. The garage said that it was the abs system. The brake fluid had leaked into the abs box and shorted it out. They wanted 3100. 00 dollars to fix it. I dont have that kind of money. Please help by getting kia to do a recall. My husband and I was ok. Please help before it happens to someone else. I am out of a vehicle because I cannot afford to get it fixed and it is a safety hazard. I tried talking to kia headquarters they were no help.

Brake fluid had leaked into the abs control module disabling the abs, esc and brakes.

My anti lock brakes module or called abs. I took the car to my mechanic and he said, the abs should not have went out this soon. He also said the abs is leaking brake fluid. This is a safety hazzard. A abs module should not leak brake, even if it is not working. If I have not went to my mechanic, I could have lost my brakes. I got it at kia of bradley 1010 tighe dr, bradley, IL 60914 (815) 932-1000. They want to charge around $2500. 00 to replace when it is a defective part and safety hazzard. My windows ice up on the inside in the winter. I took it to them, they told drill holes in my door seals. I have had nothing but problems with this dealership. Something needs to be done.
