The contact’s son owns a 2015 kia Sportage. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced lunging and the engine seized. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the contact’s residence. The contact used an odb scanner to diagnose the vehicle and retrieved dtc codes related for: camshaft timing in cylinder bank 1 advanced, low oil, phaser stuck, faulty sensor, failed valve control solenoid, and worn timing components. The contact had the vehicle towed to the dealer where a diagnostic test was performed, and the contact was informed that the internal engine failure was likely due to low oil pressure. The dealer also stated that the engine oil level was good and recommended that the engine be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to cost. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact filed a case regarding the failure; however, the case was denied by the manufacturer. The failure mileage was approximately 111,508.

I had my vehicle in for a recall from kia pi2103 for kia to update the software in my kia Sportage. Which was to install software that could help my engine from failing. This was performed on January 19th 2024. Along with this recall they were supposed to extend my warranty to 15 yrs 150,000 miles. Shortly after aout 500 miles later and a few weeks my engine developed a knocking noise. I took back to the dealer that performed the recall to have it diagnosed. They advised that it needs and engine and is part of the campaign but they needed to get prior authorization. After a month went by kia determined because I never took the key tag out of the car that I would not be getting a new engine for not meeting the requirements. How they determined this is when a service advisor is making a repair order they use window tags to locate cars. Well, the advisor rather than using a new window tag used the one that was sitting on my seat. I would like kia to honor their extended coverage and replace my engine at no charge. Attached is proof I had ksds and also a copy of the kia techline that the service manager gave me to show the reason.

Transmission slips or hesitates when going from a stop to first gear. When turning left across oncoming traffic it is dangerous. The dealership looked at it and said that they couldn't get it to slip after having it for two days. No codes were thrown and no lights on the dashboard. Only slips occasionally like once a week. Always from a dead stop before going into first gear.
On June 9, 2023, the owner purchased a brand-new 2023 kia Sportage hybrid from quirk kia braintree. Over the next six months, the owner regularly drove the car between work and home, accumulating approximately 4,500 miles. However, in early January 1st 2024, the owner noticed that the check engine light had illuminated, although there were no other noticeable issues with the vehicle at that time. In response to the warning light, the owner ceased using the car and promptly scheduled an appointment with quirk kia for a diagnosis. When the owner attempted to drive the car to the dealership, it exhibited severe shaking when the engine was running, rendering it undrivable. Subsequently, the owner had the car towed to quirk kia, where it has remained since January 5, 2024. Upon examination, multiple error codes were detected, yet as of January 17, 2024, the dealership has been unable to determine the root cause of the engine's shaking. They have raised the possibility of poor-quality gasoline as a potential culprit, and they claim to have conducted tests on the fuel. Based on the email and phone communications between the owner and the dealership, the owner believe that the gasoline used was of good quality (the owner consistently refueled at costco). Additionally, three pictures of the fuel test were shared (attached), indicating that the ethanol content in the gasoline was below 10%, which aligns with the car's manual specifications. Their proposed solution is to replace the gas tank, with the cost to be borne by the owner. The owner find this resolution to be entirely unacceptable.
When coming to a stop and brake applied car starts to vibrate. Local mechanic who looked at the vehicle believes it's the torque converter. The miles are high but it's under a the recall new engine, which technically has only approximately 60k.

2023 kia Sportage misfires, engine will stall and shut off. Afterwards, I am unable to start the car. It has happened three times. (11/23/24, 3/05/24 and 5/05/24). Each time the dealership blamed poor fuel quality (three different gas stations). Not covered under warranty. First incident almost $8,000 in repair cost. Second incident $1,300 in repair cost. Third incident the dealership took responsibility. I had been without my car for a total of 6 months or more. Each time the vehicle is repaired within 13/14 days it happened again. I just got my car back (third time) about a week ago. I am uncomfortable driving it, because I fear it will misfire and shut off again while I am driving and the dealership will say it’s poor fuel quality. Vehicle has 28,900 miles on it. I’ve had it for over 2 years.
Purchased vehicle used 11/18/2023. Two days later vehicle went into limp mode on the highway. No brakes. Engine continued to shut off. Towed to dealer. Replaced injector. 11000 miles. 12/27/23 vehicle was returned. 11/14/2024 vehicle went into limp mode. Engine would not run. Vehicle was blowing white smoke thru exhaust. Another highway incident. Towed to dealership. This condition is very dangerous on the highway not only for me, my family and other motorist. As of today the vehicle is still at dealership. Do not have the repair orders or my car.
My 2023 kia Sportage awd has several ongoing safety issues that have been happening for over a year. The car stalls or hesitates at low speeds and during acceleration. I hear grinding or whining noises from the front end and drivetrain. My brakes wore out very early and still feel inconsistent, and the automatic braking acts unpredictable. The awd system sometimes feels unstable when I try to accelerate. The tire pressure warning light comes on often even when the tires are fine. These issues happen randomly and make the car feel unsafe to drive. I am reporting this for safety investigation.
The contact owns a 2021 kia Sportage. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle inadvertently lost all electrical and motive power. As a result, she collided with a shopping cart, causing it to collide with another vehicle. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 35,000.

This car was driven by a 17 year old high school student. Car with high oil consumption engine resulting in engine seizure 4/2022. Engine unseized and consumption of 1qt oil every 1,000 miles deemed "within normal limits" per kia of America policy (ganley kia in mentor ohio). Kia corporate offices contacted with no resolution. From 4/2022 to 8/2023, car was driven only 2. 5 non freeway miles to high school and home. It continued to consume oil resulting in adding and checking oil weekly despite low mileage driving. The car finally developed a lower engine knock at complete engine failure 8/2023. We sold it to webuyanycar. Com for $700. 00. The manufacturer (kia) of the car is fully aware of the defective engine design, the high oil consumption, and potential eventual engine failure. The car has poor resale and trade in value. Kia should be investigated for safety and ethical concerns. We were lucky there was not a fire, an accident, or a fatality.
2011 kia Sportage engine stalling/failure. Has been having oil pressure/heating/oil feed line/consumption issues. Taken to a kia dealership on multiple occasions for all routine maintenance, including every 3000 oil changes. Owner was told that a catalytic converter was needed in 2021 due to engine stalling/ failure while driving 55-60mph on highway to a rapid deceleration and vehicle would go >20mph. Owner had car towed to kia dealership and had a new catalytic converter put on in 2021 by dealership. Then in 2022 same engine stalling occurred again. Taken back to dealership and was told car needed waste gate actuator replaced. Owner agreed to cost/repairs. Then during repair was told that another catalytic converter was needed due to sludge/clogging, when one was put on less than 1. 5 years prior. With less than 20k miles on new one. Car engine continues failing and will not accelerate above 20-25 mph. Check engine light has come on and been diagnosed numerous times from 2018, when oil issues started to 2023. Both dealership and manufacture are aware of recurrent issues.

7/17/23 vehicle starting lunging erratically down a busy highway while driving. Called dealership to make appointment. The car was taken in on 7/19/23. Dealership reports the transmission blew and metal shards in the fluids. Tech expressed concern it was able to drive and lunge down road given the situation. No warning lights or indicators went off. The car is currently at the dealership awaiting a new transmission. Vehicle was purchased November 2022, brand new.
The contact owns a 2017 kia Sportage. The contact stated that while driving at 60 mph, the vehicle inadvertently lost all motive power. The contact was able to coast to the side of the road and restart the vehicle, and it seemed to return to normal functionality, but the failure reoccurred. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who determined it had a piston failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to tow the vehicle to another dealer. The failure mileage was 87,000.
VIN number is 5xyk6caf6pg064186, 2023 kia Sportage x-line got engine stop suddenly on the load. The date was 6/21/2023 9:30am. After driving 1 miles. The pictures was in the parking lot weni turn the engine, also I got recall service yesterday 6/20/2023 9am-12pm.
First owner 2017 kia Sportage sx (note sx specifically) awd 2. 0l turbo gas direct injection (4-cyl engine) (no recalls found) - excessive oil consumption since early/mid 2023 and continues still today, Feb 19, 2014. We lose over 1 quart of oil every 1,000 miles, did not discover this until an oil change in early 2023 how low our oil was. No leaks then, no leaks now, oil maintenance performed, we have meticulous records and have been to the #1 cochran robinson township kia dealership where they have perform kias required oil consumption test that we've paid for. 1st set of test failed each time, dealership performed deep clean, and since there was only 3/4 quart loss, kia had no further responsibilities. Too busy with our small business over the holidays, started oil consumption test, again feburary 16 2024. Every single time we hit 1,000 miles (monthly) we are down over 1+ quarts of oil, with no leaks anywhere. Added 40 ounces of oil (I have photos) a few days before we decided to get the oil consumption test again. Pls note: there are quite a few models and engines listed in recalls or perhaps lawsuits for excessive oil consumption, our sx model 2. 0l turbo gas direct injection (4 cyl) specifically is not. Over the past 7 months, we have lost over 8 quarts of oil, and have had 2 maintenance oil changes in between, part of normal maintenance. Looking online there are thousands of posts regarding kia excessive oil consumption, kia states losing 1 quart every 1,000 miles is acceptable? how can this not cause a hazard to us drivers, engine could blow due to oil going somewhere or into the environment, etc? if you require all of the service records for the oil changes, etc. I have them all. Thank you sincerely dave.
The vehicle has always had a bit of a breaking issue especially in cruise control. In may had an incident where it slammed on the brakes so bad that everything in the backseat flew up to the front. Again the driver did not break. I went in for it to be repaired which took several weeks and spent 5 hours at the dealership. Two days later the car completely shut down and I had to have it towed to the dealership and they will not give me any answers. I do not think I will ever feel safe in the car again. Loved the car but if the safety issues do not work and I could possibly be in an accident and other people, that is a major safety issue.
Please answer these questions using my words what component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? I was unable to accelerate the gas pedal after the car started bouncing up and down and smelling mid driving. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? I was on a major road at the time this occurred. Thankfully the time of day was in my side. If this was a few hours later there would have been a collision as I was in a main lane and had to veer to a turning lane. I am frightened every time I’m in the car now. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? the dealer ship has confirmed. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? no just the dealership. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no, the warning came on after it happened.
I was driving down the highway at the posted 70mph limit in medium traffic. The car started to sputter and wouldn't accelerate. The car started to decelerate and cars coming from behind had to quickly swerve to avoid me. The cab then filled with the strong smell of gasoline and I became light headed. The car reduced to around 10mph and I pulled off the highway into a gas station and waited for a tow truck. We towed the vehicle to a kia dealership and they claimed to have fixed it. A similar circumstance has occured 3 more times since that first issue. After each time, kia has claimed to have fixed the issue.
The contact owns a 2014 kia Sportage. The contact stated while having the anti-theft recall performed, the mechanic stated that the software that was being uploaded caused damages to the vehicle computer but was not sure what the failure was. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted but did not provide any assistance. The failure mileage was 84,000.

As I was driving my 2023 kia Sportage sx prestige at 70+mph on highwy, suddenly "hybrid system failure" appeared on the dash along with evey other lights you can think of. I lost power and steering and only by the grace of god was able to safely get to the side of the road and stop. Car was at kia dealership for 4 weeks and I was told it only needed a software upgrade and nothing was wrong with the car!! this is very dangerous and could get someone in major car accident.
This is a heads up, not an incident report. On this vehicle there is a push button starter on the center console. Page 6-11 of the owner’s manual has a warning that reads, “never press the engine start/stop button while the vehicle is in motion. This would result in loss of directional control and braking function, which could cause an accident. ” I feel this is a hazard with an easy fix: disable the start button if the vehicle is in motion. A toddler could reach over and press the button for fun. A person could drop an object on it accidentally. I’m sure there are other scenarios where that button gets pushed inadvertently. Thank you.
Was traveling northbound on i5 between lacey and dupont, washington. Vehicle was in cruise at 65, then it suddenly went into limp mode. I was in the furthest right lane possible on the highway, and rpms drastically dropped to below 1,000. I was able to get the vehicle pulled over to the right shoulder safely while the vehicle dropped to approximately 10mph on the freeway. The vehicle died as soon it was placed in park. When attempting to turn the vehicle on, all engine light warnings displayed (this was not present when the vehicle went into limp mode) and would not start. I checked for oil levels, which showed they were only slightly low. No leaks in engine compartment and no leaks underneath the vehicle. Vehicle would attempt to start after the 5th consecutive attempt, and began knocking. Rpms would not exceed 1,500rpms with the gas pedal compressed. Towed to kia, kia rejecting warranty. Vehicle is a 2022 kia Sportage ex, only 60,000 miles on it. Still waiting on official denial letter, but this issue was prevalent in previous models of Sportage vehicles from kia. I'm thankful I was able to maneuver safely to the shoulder of a busy highway during dark hours, I could have been killed if a vehicle hit me from behind with how suddenly the vehicle's speed dropped, almost coming to a complete stop.

The car is currently in the shop at jim shorkey gainesville kia and is available for inspection. They have contacted me to tell me the transmission/engine failed. I was driving on interstate when I suddenly lost the ability to accelerate and was forced to get off of the highway. After coming to a complete stop I pressed on the gas pedal but the car would still not accelerate. I tried putting into park and back into drive and that did not work. I tried putting it into manual mode and it did go forward but every gear change was loud, jerky, and rough. I was able to make to my next complete stop in a left turning lane to cross a two lane busy highway that is coming downhill towards me at an intersection that does not have a traffic signal. However the car was stuck in gear 5. I was the first car in line. At this point I put other cars in danger as they swerved back into the high way to get around me into the intersection to make that left turn across busy highway. I turned the car completely off and after a minute turned it back on. I put in drive, waited until I couldn't see any cars coming down the hill and I pressed the gas pedal to test. It jerked forward and I managed to get across the highway as it shifted into the second gear it jerked violently and made a loud popping noise and there after every single gear change was loud and jerky. Thank god I did not lose the ability to accelerate in that left turn because those cars are coming at 70+ miles per hour down that hill or my family would have been t-boned on their passenger side. I am also lucky that I was able to get off the nearest exit when they problem originally happened as I was going downhill on the interstate and the next exit was very close so my momentum got me there. I lost the ability to control the vehicle as I ordinarily would putting myself, my family, and other motorists in danger had we not been able to get off on the exit or make it through that left turn.
My vehicle keeps stalling and its been having an oil consumption problem for several months. I keep taking it to kia, they keep doing oil consumption tests. I'm afraid to drive my vehicle anymore. I had an oil change done one month 3k miles later she was out of oil.

The contact owns a 2023 kia Sportage. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the automatic emergency brake (aeb) system engaged erroneously with an audible warning chime. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on two separate occasions; however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a review was conducted; however, the manufacturer had not provided any assistance. Recently, the contact stated that vehicle had started to wobble while driving 75 mph, without warning. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 15,500.

The contact owns a 2018 kia Sportage. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled, was unable to accelerate past 20 mph, and then lost motive power. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed that unknown engine repairs were needed. The repairs were completed; however, the mechanic then diagnosed that the drive shaft needed to be replaced. The contact was informed that the warranty had expired. The vehicle remained at the dealer awaiting repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 46,300. The VIN was not available.
Driving at highway speeds the rpm would suddenly rev up very fast and the car would appear to be in neutral then soon go back to normal. On another occasion, taking a turn at 15 mph the car became as if in neutral, rpm would go very high, then shortly the rpm would drop and the car would be back in drive. The car was taken to the dealership, they checked it, noted that they could not duplicate the problem, and will not take any further action unless it repeats. The danger is if this occurs when driving into traffic, turning into traffic, driving on a freeway and the engine slips into the neutral mode, a collision can occur , risking injury, life and property. The only warning was the rpm going up very fast, and the car not reacting to pushing on the gas pedal. Attached is a pdf file that includes some summaries summaries of issues from web sites relating transmission problems of slipping into neutral.
