2 Body problem of the 2021 Lexus RX

Failure Date: 08/29/2025

I was at the gas station, in line waiting for one of the three gas pumps to be available. I put my car in reverse to back up and pull around another car in order to go to the open pump in front. When my car was in reverse motion, I stepped on the brake pedal, but the car did not stop. I stepped on the brake pedal numerous times, but the brake did not function. My car backed into the front of the car in line behind me damaging both vehicles. The automatic emergency braking system did not activate, and there was no rear collision warning sound or message. I switched my car from reverse into park to stop its movement, but it was too late to avoid the collision. I had a passenger in my car who corroborates this description. Fortunately there were no pedestrians behind my car, so the only damage was to the vehicles. My vehicle has not been inspected by anyone since the accident, but will be soon. I have owned this car since April 2021 and previously had a few similar situations when moving in the forward direction. Previously, the brake problem occurred while moving forward at very low speed pulling into parking places. The brake failed to activate, and I had to throw the car into park to stop it, but this was the first time I had experienced this problem traveling in reverse. When this situation occurs, I am pressing on the brake pedal, but the car is not stopping and the brake pedal seems to go to the floor. On March 5, 2025 I took the car to a Lexus dealer and reported the brake failure problems. They inspected, road tested, and checked for codes, but could not identify the problem. I believe that the collision back up system should have prevented this accident, but it did not function. I suspect that there may be some kind of computer issue that prevents the brake from actuating. The car will be going in for repair soon, and I have requested that a complete diagnostic review be performed of this brake problem.

3 Body problem of the 2018 Lexus RX

Failure Date: 07/05/2025

On our 2018 Lexus Rx 350 l, the left front interior door handle broke and we had to roll the window down and open the door from the outside. I learned that there was a recall - Lexus special service campaign 20lc02 but our Lexus VIN was not listed. Our Lexus model/year was manufactured in 05/18 and that was within the production period of the recall, April 2015 to September 2018. I believe that Lexus not including our SUV's VIN in the recall was an oversight. As a result, I reached out to smithown Lexus in NY and they did not honor the recall and wanted $219 + tax just diagnose the problem. I also called Lexus guest experience center at 1-800-255-3987 and thety also did not honor the recall. Since, I purchased and installed the door handle. Is there a way I can get get reimbursed for parts and labor of $450?.

4 Body problem of the 2024 Lexus RX

Failure Date: 11/25/2024

The material (most likely) plastic used as a trim on the vehicle is melted or started to melt. This is the trim (b-pilar) between the driver's door and the rear passenger's door. We believe the quality of the material used for the trim is defective and should be addressed by the manufacturer.

5 Body problem of the 2016 Lexus RX

Failure Date: 08/22/2024

The hood latch and cable malfunctioned three times in one year. Once in January 2024 (I replaced the latch); once in July 2024 (the dealer recommended to eventually replace the cable, but was able to fix it); and most recently on [xxx] (the dealer identified the cable was faulty and needed to be replaced). The hood would close but not all the way and the hood release had no tension. There was prior warning or symptoms prior to the hood lock failure. All the records for this is with the service department of pohanka Lexus in chantilly, va. I attached the most recent service visit. I took it to the Lexus dealer service center each time. I am getting it fixed this weekend by another service shop (because Lexus charges too much). This was extremely dangerous because if the hood is not secure, it could open at any time while driving and cause an accident, especially at high speeds. There is the potential that if the hood does not lock when closed after it opens, that it could possibly fly open while the car is in motion. 6 Body problem of the 2023 Lexus RX

Failure Date: 07/08/2024

This 2023 Lexus Rx350h and several others vehicles of the same model and year and the 2024 year model have made sporadic roof popping noises that appear to be causes from heat expansion and/or flexion of the vehicle. I have taken this vehicle in a total of seven (7) times to two different Lexus dealerships. The first (4) trips to the dealerships they were unable to duplicate the vehicle, because they didn't keep it long enough. The last three (3) trips to sewell Lexus in fort worth they heard the roof noises and were unable to fix the problem. On the last visit the Lexus representative supervised the repair and determined that the problem was what the called roofs bows or what appears to be roof supports had come detached from the inside of the roof. The dealership supposedly re-glued the bows/supports and claimed the vehicle was repaired. Three days later the car made the popping noise and has done it often own since then. I have personally driven a similar model loan vehicle from the dealership and it made the popping roof noise also. I have read recent threads this year on the clublexus forum site where other Lexus owners of this model vehicle (both 2023 and 2024) have stated that their vehicle has also made the roof popping noise. I believe this is a Lexus manufacturing defect that they have not been able to fix and have ignored my suggestion that this is a Lexus model defect and also my request for a replacement vehicle, since they haven't been able to fix it. They took the car apart inside to the bare metal the last time they worked on it. This noise has happened when driving, turning corners and when parked and not running. Here is the clublexus forum thread: [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

9 Body problem of the 2023 Lexus RX

Failure Date: 01/12/2024

First Lexus I have ever owned and prob last. I am very disappointed in the paint quality of there cars. I have sustained so many rock chips and scratches from normal driving , no tailgating, or following to closely. Surprised how bad the paint is able to hold. The chips go straight through the paint to the black plastic underneath. My bumper looks like swiss cheese. I was told by the dealer the design of the car requires it to be ppf. I would have done it if they told me before I drove it 13k.

10 Body problem of the 2021 Lexus RX

Failure Date: 12/21/2023

I was driving on the freeway in stockton California and I entered into a connecting on-ramp curve going about 30mph and a lady hit me from behind on the passenger side going 65mph as she was trying to change lanes to get behind me and my car instantly speeded up spinning out of control into a gully filled with stored freeway construction materials such as poles . The car kept spinning out of control because the ground was mud-slush from the rains. I kept construction poles came into my windshield, I kept spinning and sliding as I slammed into 2 trees and as the car sustained severe damage all over the vehicle and I kept slidding landing over in a second gully on the opposite side of the freeway. No airbags deployed no sensor went off nothing. I was in the car with my autistic daughter. The car is brand new. I contacted Lexus filed a claim and they sent me letter they don’t want to tak responsibility for their product liability.

11 Body problem of the 2015 Lexus RX

Failure Date: 11/15/2023

One early morning in November, I opened the rear door on my Rx to remove my rollator walker. I am handicapped. I opened the door using the switch under the door handle. The door opened normally, and I reached in to remove the rollator and the door jerked down about a foot then continued to close with several jerking drops. It scared me, but I was able to jump out of the way of the door as it dropped. The temperature that morning was in the lower 40’s which was perhaps the lowest early morning temperature we had seen this fall. I feel that the low temperature may have contributed to the problem. I opened the door again with the switch. The door opened fully but closed again in a similar manner as described above. I was able to hold the door up with one hand and removed my rollator with the other, which was rather difficult due to my limited strength. Later in the day, after the temperature rose, the door opened and stayed open as it should. I discussed the problem with my local Lexus dealer, and they felt that the problem was most likely due to worn shocks which are used to hold the door open. I am familiar with this problem. I owned a 2002 Lexus Rx and had a similar rear door shock problem after about 175,000 miles on the car. The rear door on that car was manually operated. If the door didn’t stay up on a manually operated door it was more of a poor-quality issue than a safety issue since it was readily apparent if the door was not going to stay open. The situation with an electrically operated door is quite different. The person opening the door completely relies on the door to stay up when it is opened. In addition, the door could be operated by a child who may not be able to react to the falling door. I had the shocks on the door replaced by the dealer at a cost to me of slightly more than $400. I discussed the safety issue with the dealer and followed up with a reply on a satisfaction survey they had sent. In the repair writeup the dealer.

14 Body problem of the 2014 Lexus RX

Failure Date: 07/15/2023

My front passenger door actuator has failed. This door cannot be locked/unlocked with the remote or by pressing any lock/unlock button. This prevents the driver from being able to lock all the doors or the front passenger from being able to quickly exit the cabin unless the manual unlock switch is known and applied. This is the 5th door actuator that has failed on this vehicle. I'm the original owner and it has 51k miles on it. All 4 doors failed and this is the second time for this particular door since it was replaced some 4 years & 21k miles ago. The problem started a few months ago and is currently intermittent. Being "sometimes" safe is not being safe. I have not had it analyzed at the dealer since I would not bring it there unless I planned to have it fixed. There were no warning signs or lights.

15 Body problem of the 2011 Lexus RX

Failure Date: 07/15/2023

On Saturday July 15, 2023, at between about 8:00 and 8:30 a. M. Cdst the vehicle was parked overnight in a garage, spontaneously caught fire and burned and was a total loss. There was a smell I would associate with an electrical fire. People reported hearing a car alarm and a "popping sound" before the fire. The fire department extinguished the fire and had the car towed out of the garage of a condominium association. Fire damage to property (except the subject car) was minimal but there was extensive smoke. In my opinion based on this incident, electric/hybrid cars should not be parked indoors.

16 Body problem of the 2023 Lexus RX

Failure Date: 06/03/2023

On Thursday, may 25, 2023, I took delivery of my new 2023 Lexus Rx 500h at nalley Lexus in roswell, georgia. On Saturday, June 3, 2023, I noticed that the interior dashboard trim has become separated. I could (can) see the plastic clips and some exposed wiring. My initial thought was to not touch it because it could possibly cause an electrical shock and to take the vehicle back to the dealership. Instead, I decided to snap the cover back in place. After driving a few miles in the same day, the cover came loose again. When I got home, I googled my issue and learned that others were having the same problem. On the next business day, I contacted my service rep at nalley Lexus, made her aware of the issue but she stated they weren't aware of the issue. I decided to wait until my 5k service to bring it up again. On Saturday, September 9, 2023, I took the vehicle to hennessy Lexus of atlanta for my 5k mile service. I made them aware of the issue, they allegedly ordered and replaced the part, but the same issue revealed itself days later. I contacted my service advisor at hennessy Lexus of atlanta to make them aware that the cover is still sagging/loose exposing wiring but they had no solution.

17 Body problem of the 2016 Lexus RX

Failure Date: 04/01/2023

I am formally submitting a vehicle defect complaint regarding my 2016 Lexus Rx 450h, which is experiencing premature and extensive paint degradation, including clear coat peeling, flaking, and fading. This issue is not due to environmental exposure or neglect, but rather a clear indicator of a factory defect related to substandard paint application and adhesion failure. This concern directly aligns with known and previously acknowledged factory paint failures affecting both Lexus and Toyota vehicles. Numerous customer support programs (csps) and technical service bulletins (tsbs) have been launched by Toyota motor corporation to address: •faulty clear coat adhesion •improper surface preparation during manufacturing •delamination and premature degradation of factory-applied paint, particularly in white pearl and other finishes despite wide acknowledgment of these issues in prior campaigns (such as csp zkc and others involving Lexus Rx, ES, and LS models), my vehicle’s VIN was not included—despite exhibiting identical symptoms. Given the extensive documentation of these defects, I am requesting the following: 1. A formal investigation into the paint failure affecting my Lexus Rx 450h. 2. Written acknowledgment of this known issue and confirmation whether this VIN has been or should be included in past or upcoming csps. 3. Immediate corrective action including paint restoration or full vehicle repaint at no cost. 4. Clarification on why Lexus has failed to expand prior paint-related csps to include other affected model years and vins despite continued customer complaints. This message is being concurrently submitted to the national highway traffic safety administration (NHTSA) for independent review under potential consumer safety, quality compliance, and warranty oversight. I expect a formal response within 10 business days of receipt. Failure to act appropriately will prompt further legal and media inquiries to ensure transparent processing.

18 Body problem of the 2019 Lexus RX

Failure Date: 12/28/2022

On December 28th , 2022, I was giving a ride to a collegue of mine. She opened the door and got in . I proceeded to get the car out of park and suddenly the car accelerated and I could not get the car under control. I turned the car so it would not hit the structure in front of me. I turned but still could not control the car and the only way was to put the car in to park . It jumped the curb and stopped. The left side door opened in the process and was open as this happened.

19 Body problem of the 2016 Lexus RX

Failure Date: 08/29/2022

Water may leak from heavy rain, from the sunroof region into a part of the roof, leading to water leaking from the interior microphone above the driver seat. Seems to be a common issue amongst 2016-2017 Rx350’s but no recalls. This is a safety issue given that the microphone is where the water leaks to, compromising other electrical systems. In addition, water builds and wets the headliner causing mold/mildew smell, possibly leading to future mold build up which is harmful to health. Lexus in houston inspected and stated a new sunroof is needed, which is costly, although this is a manufacturer flaw.

20 Body problem of the 2017 Lexus RX

Failure Date: 05/05/2022

Today, may 5th approximately 9am travelling on 287 east (westchester county, NY) I was startled by what sounded like an explosion - I literally ducked in the driver's seat. Sounded like it came from overhead and then I observed that no other car seemed to have slowed or was affected. I put on my hazard lights and drove a 1/2 mile or so until I could safely pull over. As I'm driving I can hear over my head rumbling and the wind as if the sunroof was open - but I hadn't opened it. When I was able to get out and take a look the closed sunroof had shattered outward - it reminded me of a volcano pattern. Left my hazards on, got unto local roads and drove car to dealer - ray catena Lexus of white plains, where we purchased the automobile. Service told me something must have hit me at the right angle. They could find no debris besides broken glass in the sunroof compartment. I was shaken and went through the process of figuring out a loaner and cost to repair. Upon my return home I spoke to my husband and we realized it just didn't make sense. We started doing research and discovered that the Toyota corporation may well be aware of these incidents, they've been happening to different models of Lexus cars/suvs for years - different models all over the country. In California there is currently a class action suit against the corporation. I'm thankful I was driving and not my daughter and that I had the presence of mind not to lose control of the car or open the soft inside cover of the sunroof. This needs to be investigated, Toyota makes many different model cars, trucks, suvs and this is unacceptable. My one regret is that I didn't have the presence of mind to take a photo.

21 Body problem of the 2020 Lexus RX

Failure Date: 04/11/2022

While into a road trip from florida to tennessee on I-75 the sunroof spontaneously exploded. The interior sunshade was closed. Otherwise the glass shards would have entered the interior. The glass most likely would have caused cut injuries to the driver (my wife) and I. Also, it may well have caused her to lose control of the vehicle resulting in a very serious accident while driving at 75 mph. My insurance company classified it as vehicle mechanical failure and not covered by my insurance. They indicated this has happen to other vehicles including Lexus. The replacement cost for glass and labor was $1,087. 75.

30 Body problem of the 2007 Lexus RX

Failure Date: 07/17/2015

I saw on the internet while I was looking for new mats this year my Lexus Rx 350, 2007, VIN [xxx] was recalled for the dashboard until may 2017. During 2013 through 2018; my husband left me for my friend; both my sons were shot in different cities; one in nashville, and one in denver colorado. The one in nashville, was shot 10 times by his roommate who forgot he had a roommate. Fortunately, he turned around so his laptop in his backpack got the bullet which would have killed him. He was left with a dominant disabled arm. He had just come back from las vegas working with jason aldean as a cameraman and saw the bloody massacre from the shooters. My oldest lives in denver. He was shot and killed by the police on a domestic call. They overreacted. My ex-husband would not let me come to the funeral or visit the son in nashville when he was hurt. I was not able to focus on anything else during that time. When I saw the recall on the internet this year, I called and requested a reprieve. I was turned down. I wrote a letter to Lexus. Again I was turned down. I am [xxx] and [xxx]. I’m still driving my Lexus 2007 and plan to the rest of my life. I didn’t see the mail about the recall of my dashboard, nor anything else for several years. I only have about 94,000 miles on it. Most of my friends want to drive in my car instead of their new ones. When I saw the recall on the internet this year, I called and requested a reprieve. I was turned down. I wrote a letter to Lexus. Again I was turned down. I plead with you to extend the time and allow me to replace my dashboard on the recall. Thank you for listening, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
