Body Problems of Lexus RX350 - part 1

My newly bought and delivered 2023 Lexus Rx350 luxury trim with less than 400 miles has dash panel on the passenger side separating right where the suede trim clips with the soft touch ip panel. You can literally see the separation and sagging of the trim.

I was driving home on us highway 82 and my driver side door opened while I was driving. I know the door was completely closed before I began driving. There were no warning lights or audible alarms until the door automatically opened while I was driving.

On April 15 2020, was entering a parking space in front of a sprouts supermarket at 12500 westheimer rd. , houston, texas 77077. The Lexus Rx350 (2018) failed to stop and crashed into a large building support column which did serious damage to the Lexus and to the column. This is an expensive car and came equipped with the emergency crash system. This feature did not work to stop the car from hitting the building. In the past it has stopped the car but only most often it does not work. . . No one was injured nor were any people on the parking area affected.

My dash board is melting and falling apart!!! my fingers & hand stick to the dashboard and everything that is up there gets stuck to it!!!! I can touch it and leave a mark or push in it & it will leave an imprint!!! something is so wrong with this dashboard, it's totally defective and has caused my important legal documents to stick to it and even get ripped when I try to take them off the melting dashboard! it gets shiney and glare is hard to see because if this issue. Also my eye glasses actually got stuck to it too and I couldn't see very well to drive. Lastly, it's cracking and splitting in many places too, simply falling apart for no reason!! it's just melting and totally defective. This is a safety issue that needs rectified please!!.

While driving on I-15 near st. George on an overcast, but dry road, we heard a loud bang or thump on our vehicle. Traffic was light and no other vehicles were near. We could find no evidence of damage. While listening to a news report last evening, involving a problem with spontaneous shattering of sunroofs, I immediaely went to my garage to look at my sunroof and sure enough it was shattered.

The vehicle back door hatchback is is very havey once the to close button is pressed there is no way to stop and door crashed every thing on its way. This door has no sensor it must be fixed immediately before it would result in a child death or a major injury!.

Crack in windshield starting on passenger side just above the blackish part at the lower part of the windshield , extending up for about 3 inches then making about a 95 degree turn heading toward the drivers side. When first noticed, this section was only about 3 inches long also, but 2 days later, it extended about 2 feet. No apparent or remembering any object striking the windshield. No chip seen. Just noticed when got in car to start it the morning stated. The 2 foot extension occured while driving 2 days later.

Parked in driveway in back of house, beside deck after short trip to store. Smelled a melting smell outside. Maybe five minutes later the smell started coming inside the house. We looked outside and saw smoke and thought the house was on fire. We went outside and there was smoke and flames coming from under the hood. Sprayed car with fire extinguisher, which did nothing, then used water hose to spray front of car to keep from the house catching on fire. Car was making popping noises, large amounts of smoke and strong smell. All neighbors came over it was strong. Fire department spent over an hour putting out fire and used their whole tank of water. Front end melted, tires popped, dashboard and windshield destroyed. Cause is unknown.

Was pulling into parking spot at the rear of mcdonalds', stepped on the brakes when I suddenly felt a thud. The car rolled back, and the seat belt locked. After a while I managed to do that, walked to the gas station across the street.

My car (insured) rear ended another party at less than 10 miles per hour. The pre-collision system that is part of my car never became active in my car and so I rear ended the car. Lexus inspected my RX-350 and have an unacceptable reason that it will not work, unless there is a noticeable speed difference between my car and the car ahead of me. The car was the problem and it did not work and so I rear ended the previous car. My lights were also broken and had to be replaced. Some electrical wiring rework was also done.

I stopped at a stop sign in a very quiet residential area shortly after lunch time. My car had been in my garage and the stop sign was a block and a half from my house. I turned left onto a street with no traffic and I did not see anyone outside in the neighborhood. Just a few seconds after I turned I was driving about 15 miles an hour when I heard a very loud noise that sounded like a gunshot. My right side view mirror had exploded! the mirror itself had been blown out of the mirror casing and it was dangling by a wire. The hard clear plastic covering over the lights on the outside of the mirror casing was cracked in several places. There was no other visible damage on the outside of the mirror casing. I do not know what caused the explosion. I taped the mirror back inside the mirror casing and took my car to the repair shop. They have ordered a new mirror for me but it hasn't been received yet. I checked and there have been no recalls for this problem yet. It could have been very dangerous if someone had been standing beside my car when this happened. Also, if I had been driving faster I might have lost control of my car when I was startled by the very loud explosion that sounded like a gunshot.

On January 2nd, 2018, my daughter was on her way to work when she called me at approximately 5:40am stating her driver's side car door came wide open while driving on route 59. Before she left, all doors were locked and everything was normal. On the same day evening we went to Lexus dealership. However, after a long wait, they informed us that it was quite busy and we should make an appointment for 2 days later. They let us leave the dealership without investigating the matter although they knew the serious problem. On January 4th, we went to the dealership. They could not find the cause of the issue and they did lubrication on the hinges. They mentioned it may be due to the cold weather. We were in blind trust and left the dealership thinking the problem has been looked at and solved. On January 10th, 2018, it happened again. This time while she was starting her drive from work to home in the parking lot. Again, with all doors locked and no warnings. Subsequently we went to Lexus of naperville dealership on January 12th. This time we were very firm and we refused to drive the vehicle. The dealership has kept the car and we have been given the loaner vehicle.

Takata recall - my air bag never deployed on impact. As I was braking to park outside my garage door, the car suddenly accelerated extremely fast. My Lexus went through the garage door and I was braking but my SUV didn't stop until it hit things in the garage that stopped me. I even plowed into a piece of equipment that went out the back wall of the garage.

Auto accident / other driver fault- 20 + miles per hour in motion front end collision/ impact . Frame damage to both sides of SUV. Total 3 passengers. No airbags deployed on front driver. No airbags deployed at all.

While slowly pulling into parking space in the parking lot of the local post office, with foot on brake pedal car quickly accelerated forward with engine reaving. Car shot forward going over concrete car stops toward a creek and smashed into a stand of trees. Driver airbags deployed. Complete front of vehicle including hood and windshield were smashed and driven into engine compartment. I believe this is a case of unintended acceleration caused by the vehicle malfunctioning. There have been multiple documented complaints of this happening in Lexus RX 350 vehicles. The floor mat was securely in place and had not moved and the driver insists her foot was on the brake petal at all times. There were no obstructions in or around the accelerator petal or the brake. Paramedics were called to scene and a police report was filed.

I purchased this car new and about 3 years ago the automatic door locks on this vehicle started to fail - first it started with front passenger door and now in addition to front passenger door, the driver door and the rear right door automatic locks to not engage when I try to lock/unlock. I have been told that I need to replace these at a cost of ~$1,000 for each door and think this is unfair since there are numerous reports of automatic door locks on this model failing online and it is a common issue with the door actuator failing (but not recalled) (see Lexus owner site and youtube - search "2013 Lexus Rx350 door locks not working" on google for details). I am currently manually locking/unlocking these doors and feel unsafe and feel my personal property inside the car is exposed to theft since sometimes I forget to lock these 3 doors manually when driving alone in vehicle. Note the above occurs when the vehicle is stationary, in motion, on a city street/highway, and turning.

Air bag failure light on, air conditioning does not work, broken or cracked board almost everywhere, air conditioning does not work, maintenance light always on despite mechanical overhaul.

On the garage driveway, suddenly my car accelerated in the reverse gear and could not be stopped even after pressing the brake. The car completely went out of control in the reverse and crashed into my backyard fence, plowed through it and finally came to a stop after hitting my raised patio!.

While driving at 30-35 miles per hour I hit a Mini van from behind in stop and go traffic. My Lexus at this point had 2500 miles was 3 months old and I was driving alone with no passengers. When I hit the other vehicle every airbag (around 12) deployed which in conjuction with seemingly minor exterior damage resulted in this brand new car being totalled.

I went to get something out of the back of my Lexus, which was parked in my garage, and the handle to the rear door latch is "melted". I went to manually open the rear power door and the plastic or rubber that was covering the manual button was melted and sticky. I keep my car in my garage when I'm not running errands or at work. Not sure when it "melted" cause I usually use the power door button on my remote to open the rear door. I have read other complaints with the same issue.

While driving at 55-60 mph on west vergina turnpike on 2/15/16 on a 28-32 degree day, heard a loud noise and realized that sunroof had exploded. There were no vehicles in front or any bridge or overpass nearby. Fortunately the screen was closed so tampered glass did not fall on the driver. I am certain nothing hit the car.

Highway 1, edison, NJ 08817 where the dealer was unable to determine the failure however, the dealer stated that the carpet needed to be replaced. While driving straight on the road with no cars near by and no overpasses nor anything over head, I heard an extremely loud pop. My sun roof shattered into millions of pieces. The sun roof is still in tacked but cracked. I pulled over and inspected the car. The sun roof glass is lifted vertically as though the pressure due to the temperature from the outside and the inside of the car caused this to happen.

I was driving on a road, my vehicle began to shake until eventually dropping to the road and dragging until I could gain control of it , by applying the brakes. I noticed out of my driver's side window across the road was my tire rolling at a rapid speed. I called 911 to receive assistance to stop the traffic and to help with my disabled vehicle. Officers assisted with helping myself, my mother and my two toddlers out of the vehicle and to retrieve my tire. The tire had fallen off of my vehicle, at the rim, leaving the bolts and the middle portion of the rim still attached to the vehicle, while the remaining majority of the rim was still attached to my tire rolling down the road. The vehicle was in proper working condition prior to this incident. I did not hit a pothole nor was I in an accident. My vehicle was towed to my residence, the following day after contacting Lexus and advising them of the incident, I was instructed by Lexus to have the vehicle towed to their property for an inspection. After the vehicle arrived to their property, they contacted me and stated that the the incident was not a manufacturers defect, that had it been a manufactures defect it would have happened within the first year the vehicle was manufactured. Lexus then informed myself that I needed to make a claim with my insurance company for damages that have been incurred. Prior to this incident this vehicle was in perfect working order. All previous services were performed by auto lenders and the most recent was June 23, 2015, when a routine oil and filter change occurred, as well as, the brake pads and rotors being replaced. The safety of ourselves and our children are a great concern going forward in this vehicle and we do not feel that the manufacturer is in fact concerned with our safety and well being and if this is an issue with other Lexus vehicles, it is a safety concern for all.

The rear boot opener is melted and dripping onto the bumper.

My Lexus Rx350 dashboard and windoors are melting and get really sticky when I pull the windoors down all the sticky melting black residue got on the windoors so it's being a while since I went to the Lexus dealer they were not helping they said that I have to put my name in a waiting list which I did now it's been a while everytime I call them they keep telling me to wait.

While attempting to park the vehicle after a complete stop, during the (gear) shifting from drive to park, the vehicle suddenly accelerated and hit / crashed on to a building and spun off, and the impact caused the vehicle to travel for about 15 feet and stopped. Air bags did not deploy and a police report was filed. No injuries to anyone. The vehicle was towed to the Lexus dealership and later to dealership's collision shop. Approximate estimate for the repair is $21,000. Manufacturer was notified through the email option in Lexus customer assistance center. Approximate failure mileage was 5,500. It appears to be an issue with the engine or some internal electronic system. Because, when this incident happened, the vehicle was at a complete stop and my (driver) foot was on the brake pedal.

Trunk hatch handle has melted completely, leaving black rubbery goo. Unable to open the back trunk due this issue.

I suffered back and neck pain while loading the rear trunk of my Lexus SUV. The remote door continued to close and couldn't be lifted from my body that was stuck between the door and rear truck area. I had to crawl from under the closing door that was crushing my back to prevent additional injuries that could have been fatal. The Lexus hq office was contacted and there is a current case report. The Lexus dealership located in duluth GA fixed the rear door free of charge by placing a sensor to open when an object or person is blocking the door while closing. Others Lexus and Toyota SUV owners have experienced similar problems when told what happened to me. I’m still taking medication for pain caused by the injuries.

Dashboard melting ,emitting fumes from evaporating dash. Cracking and peeling. Resulting from heat and humidity of florida sun. Are the fumes emitted toxic? what are the long & short term effects on the respiratory system ? are the air bags at risk for premature deployment?.

Glue rubber due to melting of rear door lock .

The trunk hatch handle has melted, leaving black rubbery goo on fingers if opening using the handle. Residue is hard to wash off. Concerned that it melted due to electrical problem. I've read all complaints and have found numerous other owners experienced the same problem.
