Exploding sunroof on new car, I was leaving for work around 6:30 am January 2018 to go to work. As I was starting my car and putting the car in reverse I heard a loud shatter. I immediately and carefully opened the visor between me and the sunroof it was completely shattered. Small fragments of glass were pouring into my car. I was not even driving at a high speed so there was no possible way a rock or another object came into contact with the window. The car still has paper tags on the vehicle. I called my insurance and had to file a claim. Cost was $1200 to repair at the Lexus dealership. I just droped it off today. Nobody could give me any answered. Apparently I am not the only one, since I have found this page there are 3 more sunroof explosions out of the total of 29 complaints as of now. I as well filed a police for insurance purposes.

I was driving my 2016 Lexus RX 350 exiting the highway when I heard a loud boom. It was loud like a shotgun. We didn't see or feel anything hit the car, but the noise was loud and scary. Since there was no obvious evidence of anything, I carefully opened my visor for my sunroof to see that my sunroof had shattered. It just exploded. Nothing hit it or fell on it. The sunroof was convex like it exploded and not concave like something had fallen on it.

I leased the vehicle at the end of December 2016. Sometime in September, my wife started to notice an odd smell in the cabin. On sat 10/7, my wife noticed the front carpet was completely saturated. I gave it a few days to dry out but when it didn't get better I brought it in for service I explained the issue to the service manager and without even looking at the vehicle he said he had a feeling he know what it was. He explained that spiders get into the ac drain plug and clog it causing water to backup into the cabin. The padding and carpeting would need to be replaced and mold remediation would be needed (the mold is what was causing the odor). He shared they just did three of these repairs in the past several weeks and told me the repair would cost around $5,400. He continued to explain that this was not covered under the warranty and that I would have to put a claim through on my insurance. After two days he came back and confirmed a "spider infestation. " I questioned him since I found this whole scenario odd. He told me he didn't have an exact number but that the dealership had previously performed between 15 and 20 of these repairs and that to prevent a recurrence they would fit the drain plug with a special insect repellant tip. I considered this a reoccurring issue that Lexus was aware of and that they had a fix for so I did not want to put an insurance claim in and risk a rate increase. I then escalated the issue with Lexus corporate and they sided with the dealer saying it's not covered under warranty but that they would cover my comprehensive deductible (which they did). After back and forth with my insurance company they finally approved the claim (they initially didn't want to cover the dealerships labor rates). After having the care for three weeks, they finally begin repairs.

Lexus Rx350 has no ac button on the dash board. It has a voice command which is ineffective. The ac stays on all the time when the car is running and with fan on. There are 4 months out of a year one does not need ac on, just air is enough. In order to achieve just air (no ac on), one has to use a computer mouse on board go to the menu, click on climate control, then click on ac to turn off ac while driving the car. This on board computer maneuvering while driving is a major safety issue. It is analogous to texting while driving! I almost got into an accident while performing turning of ac task while driving. When I used the voice command on board and asked to turn off the ac, the system turn off the entire system. I contacted Lexus about this and requested either to install an ac button on the dashboard or upgrade the voice command software such that it will turn off just the ac instead of turning off the entire system. Lexus refused this safety issue. I request NHTSA to order Lexus to corr3ct the safety issue either by installing an ac button on the dashboard or upgrade the voice command software. Thanks much.

Mold and mildew car smells whole interior needs replacement.

I hit other car I press break . Brake not work air bag not come out, precoluation not work.

Lexus made an fsport package for the Lexus Rx350 which they have created a sport seat design that I have no issue for the passenger seat, but the driver seat on the left hand side where my thigh is I get a sharp pain on my leg after sitting on the seat for 15 minutes. I have gone to Lexus and complaint about the issue which they admitted I am not the only one who has complaint about the seat issue, but have yet done anything to resolve the pain I am experiencing.

Sudden unintended acceleration issue. I was pulling into a parking space at 8 mph when suddenly my vehicle revved up on its own, jumped the curb, and crashed into a building. Luckily, I was not hurt or hurt someone else. The edr download clearly showed my rpms jumped from 400 to 2,000 in nanoseconds and that the accelerator was "off. " Toyota's response to me was "we found no evidence that this incident was the result of any type of defect with the accelerator or brakes. " I agree it is not. It is not a brake pedal or accelerator issue. It is a software issue that controls the fuel to the vehicle. After Toyota was fined $1. 2 billion (largest ever fine to an auto maker), they updated the software so there is a brake override in case this happens. The local Lexus dealership never mentioned this to me nor have I ever received any type of recall notice. This could have been avoided if the software in my vehicle had been updated. Toyota is "very sorry about this unfortunate incident. " pretty sad words for all of the people that have been killed in accidents because of this issue.

Pre-collision system failed. Vehicle rear ended another vehicle. No warnings. No auto braking. Full unrestrained impact. Collision occurred on freeway off ramp. I have photos of crash site and a copy of the data from the "black box" which Lexus downloaded. The allstate claim number #0453405540. The chp office at 619-401-2000 has incident ncic#9680, by officer id 18801. The Lexus was totaled and allstate paid out. I purchased the Lexus primarily for its safety features. I'm concerned that further faults could cause great harm or death.

Cpsc:2013 Lexus RX 350 vacuuming the rear cargo area when the rear door automatically began to close and it started to trap me between the door and the floor of the cargo area. After pushing up on the door with all my strength I was able to squeeze out.

I was at a stop light the car all of a sudden would no longer accelerate yet the car was in drive. I took it to the dealership and they can not replicate and so I am still driving the vehicle. Hoping it will not happen while driving.

The rubber cover of the liftgate sensor melted. I am concerned about it catching fire and the door does not open when this is touched as it is supposed to. I have read multiple complaints online from owners with the same issue. The black rubber melts and sticks to fingers and is hard to remove. I have grandchildren who try and open the door at times. It also causes the sensor to malfunction since the rubber piece interferes with the sensor. This very common defect should elicit a recall.

Sunroof leak in heavy rain. Leaked through area around drivers bluetooth microphone. Service department advised this was the second vehicle brought in for this problem.

The rear door hatchback rubber handle has melted & dripped on the bumper. If I try to open the door using the handle, black tarry goop gets on my hand & very difficult to get off. This vehicle is kept in my garage in arkansas.

Dynamic speed control randomly (twice) has lost settings & control. Setting it at 60, car increased speed to 85, and ignored car in front of me, almost causing a crash. Lexus has not followed up with me on this. Voice recognition often functions incorrectly resulting in distracted driving, and has almost resulted in me driving out of my lane or off the road several times. Example: ask it for directions to palo alto medical foundation: result; gives me a list of south american restaurants. Contacted Lexus about this. Only response - take it to a dealer. I have an appt with one July 11. No documentation available. Self repair attempts: disconnected the car battery for 30 seconds to reset the system and reprogrammed all settings available. Result: no change. Summary: with regard to the cruise control; someone could get killed from this!.

2016 Rx350 is a new platform. The passenger side car passing indicator does not always indicate a car in the "blind spot". After driving the car for a few months, I notified my local Lexus dealer. My salesman and I drove my vehicle for a test run and the problem consistently arose. The salesman said that this was a new experience for him in a Lexus vehicle with this feature. Lexus had a team inspect the vehicle. Lexus said that the lack of the passing indicator to see all vehicles in the blind spot was normal for the 2016 Lexus RX 350. I have driven the car for 8 months. I first noticed the apparent malfunction driving back to PA from FL. I believe that the car passing indicator system uses relative differences of speed between my car and the car being passed to activate the feature. For example, the indicator light will not go on while I pass a car a much greater speed than the car being passed. I would guess the difference may be 20 mph or so. However, if I pass a car slowly or at a low difference of speed, the car passing indicator light functions as one would expect. Of interest is that my wife has a 2013 Lexus rs350 with a car passing indicator system and her car will always indicate a car in the blind spot regardless of how fast the rs350 passes another vehicle. The lack of indicating a vehicle in the right blind spot at all times in my vehicle is dangerous. This safety feature has poor design. The 2016 was just introduced in late 2015. Lexus knows about this problem and calls it a normal function. I have not yet received an adequate explanation from Lexus why the car passing indicator system in the 2016 Rx350 was designed this way purposely. I believe that this issue is a serious flaw. I have enclosed two documents I have received from Lexus. I did not ask for protection under the lemon law.

My sunroof exploded . Heard the pop while on the freeway with nothing above me or near me. My inside cover was closed but when I got out and shut the door the shattered glass fell on the the cover. I'm 99% sure nothing hit me because there was no one even close. It just popped and shattered. I was on se beltway in pasadena TX between I-45 and the toll booth heading east and there was no traffic . It just didn't make sense. Now I have been hearing from many others that their sun roof broke also. Could it be a defect? I did get it repaired .

Significant amount of white granules emitting from evaporator core through air vents when heat/ac is on. Concern about health hazards to family from breathing particles.

Vehicle vibration felt standing still and worsens as acceleration slowly starts forward. Continues also at slight acceleration at higher speeds just to maintain speed limit. Vibration can be felt in steering wheel, accelerator pedal, gear shift and at specific start up speeds the entire vehicle. This does not change when driving on different surfaces or roadways. Vibration has been noted and experienced also by dealership technical personnel with no remedy. This problem has existing since purchasing vehicle in Jan 2016 and dealership complaint at 997 miles on vehicle.

On November 3, 2015, Lexus Rx350 (2011) came to a complete stop at a parking lot. When the gear was about to be put in to parking, the vehicle suddenly accelerated itself and moved approximately 40 ft forward. The car sprang out going over a cement parking block, iron fence that was dividing one building's parking lot to another, and fell about 5 ft below since the parking lot was in higher level than other building's parking lot. The vehicle kept moving even after falling from the higher ground and came to a stop after hitting a tree.

Vehicle was parked and being loaded thru rear door. I used car remote to open rear door and loaded items into trunk. Without warning rear door started closing. This problem is intermitten and has happened before. On this occasion door came slamming down on my head causing a bloody injury. I have photos of my injury. Lexus has been notified. This problem if not corrected can cause serious injury. The rear door comes down quickly and is very heavy.

Rubber on back latch handle has melted into a black tarry goo that dripped down onto the license plate. I have read online of many other people living in hot states having the same problem and some think it is caused by an electrical issue but I am unsure.

As I approach a red light, I noticed the car was smoking. I pulled into the nearest automotive facility and I notice a trail of oil was following me. I look under the my hood and I saw and oil leak. I looked under the car and there was a puddle of oil.

I was driving 65 miles per hour on the freeway when I just heard a big loud pop I look at the sun roof and see shadder glass coming down on me. There was a big hole in the middle and nothing could of hit me there was no rocks near me. . . When I stoped to check inside the truck there was nothing that showed what could of hit the sun roof such as a rock. . . We took it to the Lexus delaer and said it was the 1st time they heard about this. . . I research online and this is not the 1st one that has happen to. Also the sun roof was poping up like the glass exploded upwords not as if something felt from the top of the sunroof as per many comments of people that own a Lexus 2010 has happened before.

While driving approximately 45 mph the passenger side door unlocked and opened slightly, the door sensor began to chime and the red door ajar symbol displayed on the dashboard. There were no passengers in the car, only the driver, who had been driving for more than one hour, with no reason to touch the passenger side door.

The vvti hose (engine oil cooler pipe) on my Lexus ruptured while I was driving which then caused a massive oil leak in just a couple of minutes. This was a faulty design by Toyota, rubber part was used instead of all one piece metal part. This should have been a recall. My total cost of repair is $367 u. S. Dollars and I am filing a complaint with Toyota to get my money back.

T-sb-0201-11 from Toyota/Lexus states "some vehicles equipped with 2gr-fe/fxe towing package engines may exhibit an oil seep from the engine oil cooler pipes. " this TSB affects Toyota and Lexus vehicles going back to at least 2008-present. This is a major issue, and I feel this should be handled as a recall instead of a TSB due to the severity of the issue if/when the pipe breaks. I recently elected to have my vehicle repaired on my own just so I wouldn't have to worry about this issue happening to me or my wife, and thus blowing up my Lexus RX 350's engine causing thousands of dollars in damages. Seems pretty bad that a recall can be issued for floor mats and accelerator issues, but no recall is issued for this issue which can drain the oil from your engine in a minute, blow up your engine, and then possibly wreck your vehicle. Consumer's engines are now being destroyed, and this is showing up in different online forums. I feel that the NHTSA needs to force Toyota/Lexus to replace all of the defective engine oil cooler pipes with the newer metal ones that the TSB addresses. They should also be forced to reimburse all costs to those individuals that either needed to have the repair done, or decided to have the repair done as preventative maintenance on their own before those pipes burst on their own.

Was driving at approx. 70 mph on highway 71 when I heard a loud crash. There were no other vehicles in sight around my vehicle so I thought a tire had blown out. After inspecting the vehicle and getting back inside, I realized the sunroof glass had exploded. I didn't realize it immediately as the cover was closed at the time, thankfully. As I had purchased the vehicle 5 days before, I called the dealer, who responded that I must have been hit by a rock. As there were no vehicles around for miles, I am confident it was not a rock but a manufacturer defect. Further, I was definitely not pleased with how the dealership handled considering the vehicle had less than 300 miles on it. I am just now submitting as I didn't know who to contact other than the dealer until I saw a segment on gma just yesterday.

Exterior rear hatch handle covering melted into a sticky goo rendering the handle useless. Dealer advises there is a service bulletin out about this occurring only in florida and that it is not covered under warranty. Remedy is to replace the entire electrical assembly and cover.

Vehicle started leaking oil and within 50 yards lost all engine oil. Toyota dealership found oil cooler pipe had leaked and they had to replace the oil cooler assembly - parts numbers - 15767-31020, 11496-31010, 15785-31010.

Today, as I was cleaning my SUV, a Lexus 2008 Rx350, I 1st noticed that the covering plastic booth, at the opening hatch/latch, was melting. Since that was not expected, I went online and searched for that same issue, to find out there has been other similar reports. I'm concern that an electric overheating may have caused that melting, which could cause a fire or something worse to the car and even dangerous to any human or living thing. Through the online research, I discovered that Lexus has refused to recall the affected vehicles to "freely" replace the problem, but will replace the item for over $100. By means of this complaint, I would like to request a detailed investigation of that problem and the proper fixing of such part without having the consumer to bear any costs.
