1 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2003 Lincoln LS

Failure Date: 08/17/2021

We have owned this car for about 3 years and it has been one problem after another and see same problems on line 1) will start over heating sometimes at idle sometimes while driving (try being in dfw rush hour traffic and deal with that 2) wife was driving one day and a bolt on right lower control arm broke sending her across 4 lanes of traffic including on coming. 3) all of a sudden when brake pedal was depressed started hearing vacuum leak under dash, brake pedal real hard , and couldn't hardly get car to stop, traction control light started flashing. Found bad brake booster and sensor located on it (both unavailable from manufacturer), also found on line that to get light to stop flashing you have to take to dealer and have reprogrammed (nobody else has the ability) 4) have constantly had problem with check engine light staying on and running rough, no power, and having to replace ignition coils 5) while wife was driving with no advance notice of any kind heading home on farm market road with no shoulder to pull off on transmission went out completely and stopped pulling 6) rear control arm bushings go from ok to extremely bad causing back end to drift from side to side going down the highway in a blink of an eye 7) right front sway bar link keeps wearing control arm and snapping stud off 8) sunroof drain hoses constantly failing and allowing water to get to electrical components the list goes on but all you have to do is a online search of the Ls sport with the 3. 9 v-8 and see all the problems. I was in automotive for over 16 years and every vehicle generally has its know couple problems but this is way beyond that. There hasn't been any accidents or injuries but real close to it.

Brand new battery in car. Come out to start car. Battery is dead. My mechanic has car for three days. He tried to find a short. He instructed me to make sure all doors are completely closed and lights are all out. This was after multiple dead batteries. I made sure of all the above and still came out to dead batteries. I manually turn off the lights as I came out to them being on after I had watched them dim and go out. I replaced the new battery with another new battery and I am still having problems.

13 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2001 Lincoln LS

Failure Date: 09/06/2013

My 01 Lincoln Ls 3. 9 v8 caught fire while it was sitting in my driveway at 11:30 pm. By the time it was noticed, the entire front half was engulfed. It exploded about 3 times (possibly the airbags exploding). The fire department put the fire out before it reached the fuel tank. I had driven it around an hour before. The most damage was near the driver side front of car near where the headlight and air filter were located. The passenger side of the engine compartment had not burned as intense as the driver side. (the driver side front of the hood had completely burned away. . ) the fire dept said it possibly started in the engine but the fire had burned so much that they could not be sure. No investigation since I only had liability insurance. I have owned the car since 2008 and have noticed different electrical malfunctions such as radio volume increasing, indicator lights randomly coming on/off (atc, abs, air bag, ect). About one month before fire the car was having issues with not starting and randomly dying as I was driving. The battery was tested and was not the issue. I loved my car but I don't think it was ever free of issues. (window regulators/clips replaced each window twice, oil in cylinders-replaced all cylinders/coils/ect twice, car would lose power/hesitate over 40mph, gas peddle would get stuck if pressed to quickly causing rpms to surge but car would not go over 25-30 mph and would be extremely hard to stop (it would surge forward and I would have to put all my weight on the brake peddle to keep it from hitting whatever was in front of it) I would temp fix this issue by flicking the idle control lever (which I noticed one of the "e clips" had come off of one of the arms) near the throttle body (which would also get stuck open/closed and have to be cleaned on reg basis. ) many more issues not listed here. . . Beautiful car but definitely a lemon. . .

16 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2001 Lincoln LS

Failure Date: 03/20/2013

I own a 2001 Lincoln Mercury Ls v-8 with 72,678 miles on the odometer . . Frequently (within the last several months) I have experienced sudden and uncontrolled acceleration when driving the vehicle around town in the 25-45 mph speed range. Hitting the brakes fails to override the acceleration. The only solution to prevent an accident or to slow the vehicle is to throw the automatic gear shifter into neutral and clear the acceleration with a hard press on the accelerator while the car is neutral. The other remedy is to turn off the ignition while in traffic. Neither one of these solutions is acceptable and Ford/lm denies that this issue exists on any of their vehicles dating back 10-15 years. My previous vehicle was a 2000 crown victoria and I experienced the very same issue after the vehicle had exceeded 60,000 miles. Ford/lm is well are of these issues and has failed to publicly acknowledge them for fear of liability and the cost to repair the issue. Please advise what an owner should do in this situation. I believe a class action lawsuit has recently been filed against Ford/lm on behalf of owners who are experiencing this problem. In the mean time the company fails to repair the vehicle under a government ordered recall or warranty.

17 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2005 Lincoln LS

Failure Date: 02/07/2013

While traveling on a divided highway at approximately 35 mph my car abruptly slowed to about 20 mph causing vehicles behind me to brake and/or swerve around me. A "wrench" warning light came on and I found after getting to a safe spot and stopping, that the owner's manual stated that the car was in the "limp mode" where it would not go any faster and needed to be taken to my nearest Ford dealership. After stopping the car I shut if off and upon restarting, the warning "wrench" light was off and the car acted normally. I contacted a number of dealerships and mechanics and found that it's a somewhat common problem, but the fix could be anything from a bad transmission solenoid to a complete fuel/computer/ignition redo for $4500 to $6500. Having this happen on a rural road is one thing, but if it happened on an expressway with traffic at 75 mph plus, could quite possibly be lethal.

18 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2005 Lincoln LS

Failure Date: 05/02/2012

On at least 5 different occasions at highway speeds and trying to pass, car has lost all power and the wrench indicator has appeared on the dash, at that time car looses all power and the only choice is to pull over and shut car down , which does not always work while you are in traffic on a three lane highway with out you getting killed or injured by other drivers. I have contacted our local Ford garage. . . . . I explained to jack in service and he explained to me that he has seen more and more of these problems and the cure was to replace the throttle body. . . . I am wondering if this is a safety issue and should be taken care of by Ford/ Lincoln. I hoping to get this situation resolved before someone gets hurt or killed in a accident.

19 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2001 Lincoln LS

Failure Date: 02/03/2012

20 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2004 Lincoln LS

Failure Date: 11/15/2011

I should have done my homework prior to purchasing this car used. 2 months after purchase, car started shaking, and jumping, went into limp home mode. Mechanic unable to repair, but replaced coils and car ran "ok" for about 2 weeks and now does exact same thing times 100. Car starts, idles at about 200 rpms, shakes, pops, jumps and then dies. Mechanic said he has no idea what to do except replace coils again and he not even sure if that will fix the car since that is what the code on the computer told him to do in the 1st place. I have a used car that I have made 2 payments on and is now a beautiful, luxurious pile of scrap metal stuck in a parking lot where it last died. From what all I have read, there is nothing that can be done with this car and even Ford doesn't know how to fix it. This will be my last Ford product.

21 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2000 Lincoln LS

Failure Date: 09/02/2011

22 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2000 Lincoln LS

Failure Date: 03/04/2011

Car slowed on highway in high speed traffic causing cars to have to just miss me from behind. I was totally freaked, had to have 3 engine ignition coils replaced. I've had 2 more since then. Just replaced a fuel tank also, this car has less than 46,000 miles on it and has cost me over $4500 in 2 years. I am on ss and 76 years old, I'm afraid to even drive this car, what have you done about this? I've owned fords all my life before purchasing this awful machine calling itself a car. It's sas that all my friends are seeing what Ford has become . On March 11th I paid $1444 for another repair. Can I get some help with this bill? 23 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2004 Lincoln LS

Failure Date: 07/01/2010

My 2004 Lincoln Ls has a coil problem. It cuts out and misses and then shuts down. I have had 3 coils replaced and also the throttle body and spark plugs changed. It has 85,000 miles on it now but this has been a problem since it was in the 40,000 range. The dealer will replace them if they can get them to fail while they are checking it but they don't always act up at that time. I had to pay $114. 00 for a diagnostic check last week and they could not fine anything wrong. It still cuts out and is generally unreliable. This was supposed to be a luxury car but I can't even get to 100,000 miles easily.

24 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2005 Lincoln LS

Failure Date: 04/26/2010

I own a 2005 Lincoln Ls, and I have had to replace three coils and plugs just recently, I have an understanding that some of these cars were recalled because of manufacturers defect if they were manufactured at certain plants. I called a dealer and they said my VIN number was not one of them, yet I have had the exact problem that they described. My question is why wouldn't they all be all be covered under the recall if I have had to replace three already. It seems to me that these cars should all be manufactured with same parts and have the warranty, here I had to pay to replace the coils and plugs in my car. The dealer did say there was a recall on this problem.

25 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2005 Lincoln LS

Failure Date: 03/10/2010

I have three major problems with my 2005 Lincoln Ls. The first problem is I have a hard reverse and the gears stick between 30-35 mph as I accelerate. Sometimes it has a hard bump once it starts accelerating! the second problem is that I have replaced two ignition coils within a year apart and now I have two more ignition coils that need to be replaced per p0354, p0301and p0304. I have replaced the throttle bottle, but the limp home sign has occured twice since then causing the car to decelerate!! the third problem is the catalytic converter per p0420. I purchased this car in 2009 with less than 50,000 miles, less than a year the transmission started slipping!.

26 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2005 Lincoln LS

Failure Date: 03/01/2010

Sudden loss of throttle response on 2005 Lincoln Ls with 3. 9l engine. This happened many times recently with my daughters vehicle. Close calls when in other traffic when there is sudden loss of throttle. When this occurs, there is no mil ( malfunction indicator light ) nor is there a dtc ( diagnostic trouble code. Vehicle will only idle enough to get off road. Turn off ignition and restart vehicle with no problem. This is recurring more frequently with her car and also have read alot of forums about this problem. Vast similarities on all forums with no apparent resolution from Ford Lincoln.

27 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2004 Lincoln LS

Failure Date: 01/01/2010

I have had my 2004 Lincoln Ls in the shop at my local Ford dealership on numerous occasions. Starting at around 80,000 miles on it, I had a variety of problems on it which cost me several thousand dollars. But most recently and the biggest problem that I have now is with it running hot. As a matter of fact, this is my 5th time taken to the shop for this same problem. They replaced my thermostat for $200, next trip they replaced my coolant reservoir $200, 3rd trip they replaced an 0 ring $310 and now it's in there right now which the same problem. I have talked to the guys in the shop and they tell me they have seen a ton of problems with these Ls's and have also talked to several people around town that have had bad experiences and problems with these Ls's also. Which leads me to believe that there is probably a ton of other complaints out there as well. I believe these cars are poorly built and for the money that they cost, they should be alot more dependable than this. Us Lincoln owners need some help with getting some recalls done on alot of these problems. Ford made a ton of money on these cars when they were sold. Mine cost $45,900 new and this is ridiculous.

28 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2005 Lincoln LS

Failure Date: 05/13/2009

Since purchasing this car, its been nothing but problems. The problems I've experienced aren't any different from all the other Ls owners. Coil packs going bad, the a/c blowing hot air, the car going into fail safe mode while on the freeway, the smell of gasoline inside the car. It looks like these issues have been going on since Ford started producing the car. Now wonder they needed bailout money. I got in my car this morning and it went into fail safe mode 3x's before I could get out of the drive way! all of these issues with this car dating as far back as 2001, and no recalls, c'mon man. My tax dollars went to help out this company!!!! [xxx]shame!!!! this is my first and last time buying a Ford! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

29 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2000 Lincoln LS

Failure Date: 01/25/2009

I believe my 2000 Lincoln Ls is unsafe to drive do to the fact that the shifting is erratic. This car has actually cut out on me several times, on the highway all lights, power steering, brakes everything and gave me an error message. The message stated gear shifting error. My dealer doesn't know what to do. Why are they are registered as a Lincoln dealer if they can't fix Lincolns?.

30 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2002 Lincoln LS

Failure Date: 06/05/2008

Purchased 2002 Lincoln Ls with the v8 motor and got extended warranty from mepco " vcs premier" ultimate warrant corp. For past 2-3 years this car has been in shop over 6 times; 3 times for overheating. First 2 times of overheating they stated the fan clutch was bad and replaced it and it seemed to not run hot as often but still had symptoms. . Now we are waiting to find out what the new problem is; in the meantime the warranty is about to expire and I feel I have a lemon car and the warranty has yet paid me back for past few repairs to this car owing us 726. 17 and if they don't fix the problem I am going to end up with a car note in repairs on this car soon. . .

32 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2005 Lincoln LS

Failure Date: 08/18/2007

Driving my 2005 Lincoln Ls down the street tonight all four windows were down. I pressed the button to let up the windows just before entering the freeway. Driver window came off of the track and back of the window continued to go up while the front of the window dropped down and looked as if it were going to fall out onto the freeway I got off at the next exit. Call the 1-800 number for Lincoln 24- roadside assistance. Phone rep put tony wang on the line this problem was above her expertise he said it was the weekend and he could not help me until Monday. Unless I just wanted the car towed to the nearest dealer to sit until Monday. No rental car assistance is available on the weekend. I asked for his supervisor, donald bryant was not working tonight I asked tony to have donald call me in the next ten minutes so I can figure out what to do next. That was 10pm 8/18 it is now 11:30 pm no call. The other complaint is I bought this car straight out of lease 40k miles now has 47k vibrations started at 70mph around 43k after Lincoln fixed a defective master cylinder. Lincoln has attempted to fix the vibrations 3 different times and kept the car approx 7days. Car was certified up to 75k. I am suprised parent company Ford runs their business this way. This is my first and will be my last Lincoln.
