The contact owned a 2002 Lincoln Ls. While driving approximately 60 mph, another vehicle drove through a stop sign and crashed into the front driver and passenger side of the vehicle. Only the front passenger side air bag deployed. A police report was filed. The driver was wearing a seat belt, but the force of the crash injured the contacts neck, fractured his back in two places, and fractured his sternum. The contact also sustained extensive pains in the lower back and buttocks due to no air bag deployment on the driver's side upon impact. The contact had to continue treatments and was medicated daily because of the crash. The vehicle was not diagnosed by a dealer. The insurance company towed the vehicle to a yard and the vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but the contact was uncertain if they investigated the failure in conjunction with the insurance company. The VIN and failure mileage were not available.

My fiance was driving down the road approximately 35mph when out of nowhere the airbag in the driver seat deployed on its own with no impact to the vehicle. It rang her eardrum and scared her to death, the car of course filled with dust and she pulled over immediately and called me. She was only about a mile away from home so I instructed her to slowly drive it home and park it. I have been reading about a lot of issues with the airbags in these cars. This is a very dangerous thing to occur, had she been going faster, in the rain, been elderly, ect. She could have gotten killed or killed someone else. I am very unhappy about this and we are both scared to drive the car anymore if something like this can happen. What if it was the steering wheel next time?.

Well I was driving down the freeway when all of sudden for no apparent reason there was an explosion in the passenger seat next to me. I was shocked by the loudness and I just sort of sat there in a daze and as I looked over I noticed white dust everywhere completely filling the cab of my car. I was driving so I had to split my attention between the road and this explosion next to me. Just as I began to come around to my full senses I noticed I was partially deaf in one ear from the blast and also somewhat blinded by the amount of smoke and powder which filled the cab. I realized that the best thing would be to pull over since my initial reaction to the blast was that my car was on fire. I couldn't get to the shoulder of the freeway since I was in the fast lane. I opened the sunroof and this allowed most of the powder and smoke to escape from the top of the car. Finally with some of the smoke cleared I was able to focus on the road and also do a quick assessment of the blast which had just occurred in my vehicle with me in it while I'm driving. I saw the cause of the blast was the passenger side seat airbag had deployed. I saw how the whole seat had been shifted by the blast and how the seat itself had been completely destroyed. What I saw was the canvas colored bag releasing a whiter powder like a volcano as the pressure escaped from the bag to deflate. I still have a slight ringing in my ears. I hope the ringing goes away soon. My passenger seat is destroyed and I have absolutely no responsibility behind this what-so-ever. What can I do?.

I was driving down the highway going 65 and the driver side airbag in the seat deployed for no reason at all. I believe this is a major safety issue because I could have wrecked the vehicle and I had three passengers in the car with me. Ford refuses to fix the airbag because it was not under warranty and they continue to blow me off.
I was driving in glennie mi on vacation and the drivers side airbag went off. I was not in any accident, nothing hit my car. I was driving around 40-50 mph. I now have a bruise under my left shoulder and have had several headaches.

Air-bag deployed suddenly without any cause.
- the contact owns a 2004 Lincoln Ls. While driving at 55 mph the contact heard a loud noise and noticed the driver's side air bag deployed without warning. The vehicle did not impact anything to cause the deployment of the air bag. The driver was injured. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who was unable to repair the vehicle. The dealer stated that there was a hole in the floor underneath the seat which was caused by a foreign object on the road. The foreign object made contact with the side air bag sensor, which caused the deployment of the side airbag. The vehicle was sent to a collision inspection facility, and, they were unable to inspect the vehicle. The vehicle was sent to a different dealer. The second dealer stated that the side air bag deployed due to debris hitting the undercarriage of the vehicle. The current mileage was 25,000 miles.
We were traveling at approximately 65 mph on i20 in fort worth, texas late at night when the driver's side impact air bag of our 2003 Lincoln Ls 8 (56,000 miles) deployed for no apparent reason. The deployment was accompanied by a very loud explosion and what appeared to be smoke in the cabin. I have since learned that the apparent smoke was really some kind of fine powder used to lubricate the air bag. Luckily the highway was not crowded and nothing happened. However the event was very scary and potentially very dangerous under different traffic conditions. I have had the Ls inspected by the dealership and they could find no damage (from road debris, for instance) that should have caused the problem. Damage to the Ls is extensive since the side-impact air bags are embedded in the seat back and tear a hole in the seat when they deploy. The Ls has not been repaired as yet but I suspect that the seat back will have to be replaced as a minimum. The dealership stated that the occurrences of false air bag deployment that they have seen generally are caused by road debris damage. But again they saw no severe damage so this incident appears to be a case an air bag malfunction. The Ls is out of warranty and Ford has refused to foot the repair bill. I have filled with my insurance company to see if I my comprehensive coverage will cover it, much like a broken windshield, but have no answer yet.
: the contact stated while traveling 60 mph, the vehicle struck a tire lying in the road. The damage was in the front end between the center and passenger side below the headlight. The airbags did not deploy when this occurred. There was no inspection to determine why the airbags did not deploy. Two years later, while driving up a gravel driveway, the passenger side seat airbag deployed without incident. The dealership did a diagnostic test and determined the vehicle had been in a collision causing the airbag to deploy. There was no visible damage to the vehicle and there had been no recent collision.
The passenger side impact airbag deployed without an accident while I was driving. Ford has refused to fix the vehicle claiming that I "must have had an accident because of the diagnostic computer code". Only the one bag deployed, damaging the seat and the passenger side seat belt retractor molding. No one was sitting in the passenger seat at the time.
While driving on the 14 freeway changing lanes my driver's side side impact bags delployed while driving around 80 mph. Dealer was notified.
While driving 20 mph, the side air bag on the driver side inadvertently deployed without any reason/warning. The dealer was notified.

Side air bag deployed in passenger seat while cruising at a speed of aprox 65 mph in leased car. 2003 Lincoln Ls sedan. I was in passenger seat and arm & ear were injured. Did not hit or run over anything. Dealer is claiming caused by road debris or small rocks, and therefore is our fault and needs to be paid for buy us or auto insurance. Claiming air bags never go off on their own.
My wife and I were traveling on the PA. Turnpike when a tractor trailer blew a tire. I struck a small piece of the tire and the side curtain air canopy and seat side airbags deployed, injuring my wife and almost causing an accident!.

While driving on a smooth straight section of interstate 75 at 80 mph I apparently ran over a piece of metal which flipped up and hit the under side of the car under the drivers seat toward the outside. Then the side air bag deployed on the driver's side striking my upper arm, causing a large bruise. I was able to maintain control of the car. I checked for damage at the next lighted exit. Finding none I proceeded on my trip home. The next morning I drove to the Lincoln dealer. They discovered a 2-3 inch gash under the drivers seat and said that caused the air bag to deploy. They denied a warrenty claim for the repair and refused to state in writing that the impact to the under side of the car caused the air bag to deploy properly and therefor was not a covered defect. At this time I am trying to contact the Lincoln 800 nunber to get the repair covered under the warrenty and have the problem checked into for other driver's safety.
While traveling at 80 mph driver's side air bag depolyed without any warning.
