While driving the vehicle and approaching a stop sign the vehicle just shut off on its own. I lost all engine power, brakes, and steering capabilities. , etc with no warning. Luckily no other vehicles were near me at the time. I was able to roll backwards in neutral to a somewhat safe location off the road. Several days after that it happened again. I was in a parking lot and had just started the vehicle and then it warned low oil pressure and then just shut off on its own. I checked the oil and it's not low. Oil level is perfect. After some quick online research I found many similar complaints from other Lincoln owners. Unexpected engine shut off while driving and with no warning. Scary and very unsafe to say the least. I contacted the dealership where I bought the vehicle and they said this is the first time they heard of this issue. Please advise. Thank you.

While driving at normal highway speed's the engine shuts down with no throttle response or acceleration. The only option is to coast the vehicle to the side of the road. At that point the engine is at a very slow and rough idle with the orange service wrench and warning lights illuminated across the dash. To regain a throttle response, the operator must turn the vehicle off and restart it, this resets something for a short period of time. This is the fifth time that the vehicle has shut down during normal travel and it has been to the dealer with no codes found and no solution. I now consider this vehicle to be very unsafe after having this failure while being in the left lane passing a tractor trailer truck.

While driving shuts off without warning. Dark dashboard and no steering. Has happened twice, once on a city street and once on the interstate in dry road conditions. After waiting a few minutes it restarts.
My vehicle's power shut down without any warning on busy city street (3 lane road). I was unable to steer or brake. I had to coast off the road until car stopped. Then I put it into park. It restarted and drove fine after the restart. Very scary. Thankful I wasn't driving 70 mph on busy interstate. Throttle body replaced recently as engine had been bucking and wasn't accelerating when gas pedal was depressed.

In may and June of 2019 on 2 different occasions, our 2016 Lincoln Mkx ignition turned off on its own without any input by the driver while using cruise-control on a crowded highway going 75 mph! when it occurred, a text message was displayed superimposed over the tachometer that read: caution: ignition turned off. Fortunately, when it turned off, the car automatically shifted into neutral instead of park, which it does automatically when the ignition switch is used to turn the car off! after it shut off, we coasted in neutral without power brakes or power steering while surrounded by mack trucks and other cars. Thank god there was a shoulder on the roadway where we could safely pull over. Before we could attempt to restart the car, we had to coast to a complete stop, put the car in park, depress the brake pedal, and press the ignition button. Had we been in a work-zone w/concrete barricades and no shoulder, we could have been run over/killed by a mack truck and/or other car(s) approaching from behind at high speeds. The service manager at our Lincoln dealership said they have never heard of this occurrence, but we easily found two (2) websites discussing this issue regarding the Mkx. We can only wonder how many people may have already died with no explanation about why they were at a full stop on a busy highway. Because we restarted the car, the service manager said the "error" history in the computer was erased - bad programing! both times our incidents happened, we had been driving about an hour on the highway. The car has been in the shop at the dealership for 2 weeks, and we are still awaiting an explanation and fix. I'm not sure I'll ever feel confident/safe enough to drive it again!.

The car shuts off without warning when you are driving. It has happened 6 times in the last 3 months. The power steering shuts off and the car comes to a complete stop before you are able to try to restart the car. This is a very serious safety issue when this happens on a busy highway and you are in the fast lane or making a left turn across oncoming traffic. I took the car to a local dealer (jerry's Ford of leesburg va) and it is not showing any maintenance codes for the issue and they said there is nothing they can do. I spoke to Ford (case# cas-17221031-z4l4r3) and they said to drive the car until the issue happens again and have it towed back to the dealer as restarting the car will clear the maintenance code. I told Ford this was unacceptable due to this being a very serious safety issue and I didn't think it was a good idea to put someone's life at risk to trouble shoot the problem with the car. Ford has no other options at this time. From research I have done online I can see other people have had this same exact issue. Nhtsa id numbers 11047965 and 11055106 seem to be the same issue.
We had our first incident on Aug 2 when my wife was driving. Car stalled at a traffic light and she restarted it . Transmission was in drive and she started to accelete to go ahead. The car itself went into reverse and almost hit the car behind her. She was extremely shaken and refused to drive it again. She called a towtruck to take it to our dealer. The dealer could not find the problem so installed an electrical device to record another incident. It then happended when I was driving, only 2 days after we picked it up from the dealer. I was driving on a 50 mph road when the "engine has shutdown" flashed on the instrument panel I got it restarted and tried to continue driving. About 10 different fault codes appeared and we took cell photos of each code. It shut down again a few miles later and this time all systems shut off. No lights no power on engine start. Totally dead I pushed all the shift buttons and after a minute it restarted. At this point we had it towed back to the dealer. Dealer has had it another 10 days and cannot find the problem. For our safety we refuse to take it back without the problem being solved and are now complaining directly to Lincoln.

Follow-up to NHTSA id numbers: 11047965 and 11055106. Engine shutdown at speed on highway without warning. First incident on highway at speed in center of 3 lanes. After first incident, filed NHTSA complaint 11047965, took car to dealer and replaced fuel pressure sensor based on fault code. About 2 weeks and 400 miles later, 2nd and 3rd engine shutdown incidents within 15 minutes at speed on interstate. Filed NHTSA complaint 11055106 and replaced throttle body based on dealer recommendation (no codes). About 2 weeks and 600 miles later, 4th engine shutdown occurrence, this time at 35 mph on neighborhood street. As before engine shutdown results in loss of propulsion, power steering, and power brakes. After stopping, able to restart engine normally and continue without further incident. Engine shutdown is accompanied by no warnings, alarms, or indications other then the instrument panel going dark and the loss of propulsion. So far have been fortunate to navigate to the right shoulder without collision and coast to a stop in all 4 occurrences, though this is dangerous in a heavy traffic environment. My online research indicates this is a recurring problem on Lincoln Mkx and Ford edge for many other drivers and dealers are at a loss to explain or successfully repair. Manufacturer needs to identify cause and repair beofre someone gets killed.
Follow-up to NHTSA id number: 11047965 after filing NHTSA complaint 11047965, took car to dealer for investigation. Computer had recorded a code for the fuel pressure sensor which was then replaced. After the repair, drove about 2 weeks and 400 miles (including several hours at highway speeds) without further incident. Then on interstate highway at speed (70 mph on cruise control), the engine stopped without warning or alarm, resulting in loss of propulsion, power steering, and power brakes. Was able to coast to a stop on the right shoulder without collision. Was able to restart engine normally and continue, but the event recurred a second time 10 minutes later with the same results. Was able to drive about 80 miles to home without further incident. Engine shutdown is accompanied by no warnings, alarms, or indications other then the instrument panel going dark and the loss of propulsion. Fortunately have been able to get to right shoulder without causing a traffic indecent, though this would be dangerous in a heavy traffic environment. Plan to take to dealer again next week for further investigation.
Engine shuts off while driving. Vehicle stalls on acceleration. Throttle body was replaced 14 days ago, issue still exists.
Stoped at a red light on a slight grade. Car shut down completely w/loss of steering & brakes. Drifted backward until I pushed the emergency brake. Local dealer ran dianostics, nothing found Lincoln provided zero help in resoulving the problem.

As I was going to pull out of a parallel parking spot, the car immediately stalled and lost all power while in drive. I placed the car in park and attempted to turn the car back on. The car turned back on then as I was about to leave the parking spot again it shut off immediately as I pressed the acceleration. This is very dangerous and left me out in the middle of the street with on coming traffic.
Driving at 50 mph, I lost power steering, then realized engine shut off. Was able to drift over to get off road and stop car. Engine was able to start and run fine after that. I lost all confidence in car, and dealer swapped me another car.
I noticed a few days ago when I was in traffic my brakes didn't want to hold. I pressed really hard and only then did my car stopped. I took it to a mechanic and he checked it out and said my brakes looked great. Two days ago I was driving and my car just shut off and the engine light came on. I took it to the Ford dealer ito have it checked out. I was told it was a faulty value and that my brakes were fine. When I went to leave the dealer my car shut off in the middle of the highway and my brakes failed I was thankful that there were no cars in front of me. I immediately turned around and went back to the dealer. The manager came and checked it out and he said the booster part of the brakes were defected and my car was still under warranty. The car is now in the shop. I noticed when I checked online that others have had the same issues. My fear was having an accident!.
