36 Power Train problem of the 2018 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 08/22/2023

While driving at a speed of 55-60mph, I tried to pass slower vehicles on three different occasions during the same trip on a two lane road. I pushed the accelerator to the floor and pulled the car into the lane to my left. I felt and heard a very loud clunk, revving up of the engine, and total loss of power at the wheels. I quickly moved backinto my original lane and let up on the accelerator. After a 5-10 seconds, power returned to the wheels and I was able to reaccelerate. I was able to pass the aforementioned vehicles, albeit using a more gradual acceleration. I have previously had the vehicle inspected for two identical episodes at a Lincoln dealer. Unfortunately, they reported that the service techs were unable to duplicate the problem. If this were a standard transmission vehicle, I would say the clutch was slipping. In a vehicle with four wheel drive and automatic transmission, however, I am not well enough informed to make a diagnosis. There can be no doubt, however, that the action is potentially dangerous and could result in head on collision. I would also suspect that the engine transmission train is likely to have shortened lifespan if the problem continues. It is possible that there is already damage.

37 Power Train problem of the 2022 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 05/15/2023

Transmission is now shifting violently, it is produces jolts of power before shifting, a lack of power after shifting and will hold gears longer than usual. Tends to feel like it is gear hunting at low speeds and down shifts sporadically.

38 Power Train problem of the 2019 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 03/27/2023

The 10 speed transmission in our car shudders and vibrates badly and gets stuck in very high gears. The problem happens most often between 17-23 miles per hour, and is most noticeable on inclines. Instead of downshifting to a lower gear at lowers speeds, the car is stuck in 6-7-8 gear. This causes a long hesitation where we are worried we could get rear ended or hit at an intersection. We have been shifting the car manually with the paddle shifters to drop into a lower gear, but this also takes time and causes a delay. We have been to the dealer at least 5 times for this issue and no luck on a repair. The problem has been ongoing for over a year now. Thank you.

39 Power Train problem of the 2016 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 02/01/2023

The contact owns a 2016 Lincoln Navigator. The contact stated that while driving at highway speeds, the transmission inadvertently down shifted and nearly caused the contact to lose control of the vehicle. Additionally, the speedometer gauges went to zero and the service wrench warning light was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the transmission molded lead frame was faulty and needed to be replaced. The contact was concerned that the transmission control module was faulty and needed to be serviced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 69,000.

40 Power Train problem of the 2018 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 01/12/2023

Transmission will randomly stop shifting or jolt. Poses a safety concern when you have to accelerate or slow down to merge, switch lanes, cross an intersection, etc. This is a common problem with this year and model that everyone is complaining about.

41 Power Train problem of the 2015 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 09/24/2022

There are some major transmission issues with my vehicle. The gears do not change properly causing the SUV to stall on the highway while I was driving 65 mph. I took it to the mark ficken Ford Lincoln dealership for repair. They stated that the torque converter needed repair along with the 3rd gear and 5th gear clutch had issues. The thumping/grinding sound I've been hearing since I purchased the car from mark ficken. The dealership should cover the cost of these repairs. The vehicle has 110,000 miles on it. I purchased it pre-owned from the dealership.

42 Power Train problem of the 2012 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 06/06/2022

Vehicle randomly downshifts at speed causing sudden and jarring loss of speed. Vehicle will eventually and intermittently flash a service wrench error, speedometer stops working, and displays "000 miles to empty" message. Diagnosed at the dealer as a failing molded lead frame. There was extended warranty coverage to 150,000 miles due to this being a know faulty part but my vehicle was over the mileage. I learned from the dealer servicing the vehicle that a software update--rather than replacement of the faulty part--under TSB 13-6-8 was performed by another dealership that I purchased the vehicle from. This "software update" was not disclosed to me nor did it show up on carfax or any service records for the vehicle. The software update merely masked the problem until the problem gets worse. Thankfully, I didn't experience violent downshifting at highway speeds that others have reported but have had the violent downshifting at 45mph and below, which still is a major safety issue. When I searched the VIN prior to purchasing the vehicle, no recalls were open because the software update closed it. I contacted Lincoln to report that violent downshifts occurred eventually even after the software update and the part should have been replaced in 2019. I was told by the Lincoln rep that there was nothing Lincoln would do because it was just a "customer satisfaction program" rather than an all out recall and it was outside the extended coverage.

43 Power Train problem of the 2015 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 04/02/2022

When in park, vehicle fails to stay parked in some instances. For example, SUV has rolled forward (while in park): when parking on an incline or while unloading items from trunk, resting against bumper caused it to roll ahead and hit closed garage door in the garage, or when leaning on the SUV body outside vehicle it can disengage from park and start moving while shifter stays in p position. Emergency break stops movement. We started noticing the issue Jan 2022 and took it to Lincoln for service on 02/25/22 to investigate (after multiple accounts, same concern). They found no recognizable problem, stating vehicle might not have been in park to begin with. No parts were removed; only a visual & functional assessment. Paid an inspection bill with no resolution to safety concern. However, it re-occurred on 4/2/22. Because the concern is intermittent and cannot be replicated on demand it’s harder to predict when SUV will move. Using the emergency parking break as a safety back-up for now. Vehicle is available for further inspection. To date, no major damage caused. Yet, forgetting the manual break could result in a terrible situation at any time. All instances of rolling away have occurred after driver exited the vehicle. Level parking surfaces are not always available. Probably unrelated to the safety issue, there are strange electric bugs. Radio will turn on randomly while driving; tailgate will open on its own when SUV is parked. However, no warning messages have displayed for any of the safety or electrical issues described.

44 Power Train problem of the 2019 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 03/01/2022

The contact owns a 2019 Lincoln Navigator. The contact stated while making a left turn, the vehicle started to stall and seized. The contact stated that an unknown power train warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and continued driving to her destination. The contact stated she continued to experience the failure. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the battery to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but continued to experience the failure. The vehicle was taken back to dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the power control module to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but continued to experience the failure. The vehicle was taken back for a third time to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing another control module to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but continued to experience the failure. The contact called the dealer and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 54,000.

45 Power Train problem of the 2018 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 02/13/2022

The contact own a 2018 Lincoln Navigator. The contact stated while the vehicle was in parked and the key was not ignition the contact had open their front driver side door and when they open the driver side door the vehicle suddenly the vehicle went forward on it's own going down on a hill. The contact had to jump in the driver seat and depress on the brake pedal for the vehicle to come to a complete stop. The contact had their husband jump into the front driver seat and drive their vehicle to their residence. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer to have the vehicle inspected, however the dealer was not able duplicate or diagnosed the caused of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact concerned after doing some research online that the failure is related to a NHTSA campaign number: 18v213000 ( power train) in which the year and make of model of vehicle they have is part of the recall but base of their v. I. N. , their vehicle is not part of the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 51,000.

46 Power Train problem of the 2015 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 07/25/2021

While driving the Lincoln Navigator with only 96,000 miles, it chugged and rapidly reduced power, forcing me off the road. It happened 3 times in 2 days while I was on vacation at the wisconsin dells. The dealer said it was "throttle actuator failure" after the test was run. I replaced throttle body and gasket at the dealer for $425. 10 on 07/27/2021. This should be part of a recall!! we could have been killed from the sudden loss of power, and all the traffic behind me that had to suddenly stop. It was very, very, scary. It came out of nowhere, with no fore warning. I had no idea what to do.

47 Power Train problem of the 2021 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 07/08/2021

Within one week of delivery of this new vehicle, the transmission began slipping out of gear and the car loses power for 30-40 seconds in the middle of driving. Shift system fault, transmission failure, and powertrain malfunction are the errors coming up on the screen- even after the vehicle was in service for 2 weeks and they replaced the transmission valve system. Very dangerous to completely lose power on the highway.

51 Power Train problem of the 2013 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 09/26/2020

While driving on access road about 45 mph the car jolted very hard causing me to nearly lose control completely. The speedometer went to zero and it seemed liked the transmission downshifted to 1st gear then it wouldn't move. I pulled over and checked under and all around car and turned it off and restarted it. It seemed fine for about 2 miles then did same thing. I turned car off and called tow guy to take it home.

53 Power Train problem of the 2014 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 10/17/2019

Pressed the gas after sitting a stop light and got no power. Shifting into neutral and back into drive again seemed to help, until I got on the interstate 5 minutes later and noticed that my speedometer had stopped working and the message center was flashing the wrench symbol along with a "--miles to e fuel level low" message. There was half a tank of gas in tank. Got off the interstate and almost made it home until I drove up a hill with a stop sign at the top, and once again, no power when I pressed the gas after stopping at the sign. I had to push the pedal all the way down just to get it go 5mph the rest of the way up the hill to my house. When I turned the engine off and then back on, the warning disappeared and the speedometer suddenly worked again. The next day, the engine suddenly downshifted while I was driving it to the dealership to check out, with the wrench light flashing again and the speedometer stuck on zero. This was on low mph city streets. Made it to the dealership and it again reset after turning off the engine. Seems to lose power when accelerating up the shallowest inclines. This has already been identified as a powertrain control module issue for 2011-2013 Navigators under NHTSA id number 10162411 and NHTSA campaign number: 16v248000. 2014 models need to be added to the recall. The speedometer would intermediately stop working. When this is happening it would have a loss in power or begin to misfire. We have now stopped driving the vehicle because it down shifted extremely hard at road speed while along side another vehicle. The wife was extremely scared and I am afraid it will happen again and cause damage to the transmission.

56 Power Train problem of the 2015 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 04/17/2019

A few months ago, around 65,000 miles, I was driving on the highway when I noticed a loss of power as I was trying to accelerate. At that same time, the check engine icon started flashing. I was unable to accelerate until the check engine icon stopped flashing. Everything went back to normal and I didn't experience this problem again for a couple of months. This would occasionally happen whenever I'd try to overtake another car on the highway. These days at 78,000 miles, the vehicle intermittently runs rough.

57 Power Train problem of the 2018 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 03/01/2019

Starting at 20,000 miles I started asking the dealer to check the transmission on my vehicle. Very often the transmission shifts very hard to the point you hear and you feel like someone hit your car ( usually from 1st to 3rd gear ) and also when you shift it to reverse it slips. Dealer keeps saying theres no codes coming out on their computer. This always happens in motion on a city street.

58 Power Train problem of the 2018 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 01/11/2019

The car has slip transmission issue, that can’t be fixed, the front of the car makes loud grinding noise from the front wheel area when riding on front wheel drive, with low rpm, this has been brought up multiple times with Ford and linclon while they and car service provider represented by Ford and Lincoln keeps denying.

A few days later the vehicle lost power again, while driving on a very busy road. This was a very dangerous situation. It was returned to dealer, this time they replaced the throttle body. This happened on may 10th, and may 22nd, 2018. Also side monitor stopped working.

60 Power Train problem of the 2012 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 01/08/2018

Recall# 16v248000 powertrain automatic transmission. My 2012 Lincoln Navigator was taken to champion Ford in katy, TX for service due to intermittent transmission issue where we experienced a downshift at speed, speedometer failure, odometer and mpg error and tire pressure warning. The symptoms correct upon restart. The dealer advised that the problem was due to output shaft speed sensor failure that would require replacement of lead frame unit at a cost of $1,366. I asked to have the replacement completed under recall 16v248000 because the repair involves the same symptoms, repair procedure, and is the same year, make, model, and transmission outlined in the recall but was declined because my VIN was not included in that recall because the build date does not fall within the recall dates. Ford needs to expand the scope of recall 16v248000 to include all vehicles equipped with that transmission as my vehicle is evidence that the problem is effecting vehicles outside their specified build dates. It is clear that Ford is intentionally limiting the scope of the recall to mitigate their losses at the expense of my family's safety.

69 Power Train problem of the 2003 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 09/10/2006

Vehicle was purchased at marshall bros in new orleans, vehicle was sold as a certified vehicle. Vehicle had to have a new transmission installed 2 months after vehicle purchased. Vehicle was sold with the problem known to dealership. Worker at location stated they knew it and when we purchased vehicle, they insisted on us buying an extended warranty since it was used. Insisted to the point of giving policy at cost, this was due to known problem, transmission case and unit was so badly damaged that it could not have been missed. Previous owner contacted and stated they told dealership of problem. Also since vehicle was owned electrical system has gone haywire, battery not charging periodically, alarm and lights operating on their own, lights staying on, coming on at night, radio staying on dealership stated they could not find anything wrong when brought in for issues, they kept vehicle for three days. Happened several more times, same statement by dealer. I researched problem on internet and discovered TSB's on same problems, but no recall. But tsbs have existed since 2004, dealer knew windshield leaks into computer and moonroof can leak causing same problem, dealership didn't fix anything, then when out of warranty dealership states known issue and fuse panel needs replacing at cost of $4,000 . This should be a recall after my research and since the dealerships are doing everything they can including lying and selling vehicles with known problems. Bbb was contacted and in process of having press involved. Please look at all complaints on issue and make a recall necessary. This is a dangerous problem, vehicles wrecking, putting drivers in dangerous situations.

70 Power Train problem of the 2001 Lincoln Navigator

Failure Date: 05/13/2003

I was on the expressway, the gas pedal continued to accelerate after removing my foot. I thought I may have set off the cruise control on the steering wheel, so I pushed the off button. The car continued to accelerate, so I hit the brakes, hoping that would turn off the cruise. The brakes on the car were stiff and the pedal would not go down. The brakes were not working at all. I down shifted to slow the car down , the car jumped a little and slowed down a little. I down shifted again and the car slowed down even more. I continued to move forward at approx. 40 miles per hour and was unable to stop. I finally shifted into reverse, the car jumped a few times, the wheels spun backwards thus making the car go backwards. I then turned the wheel to the left which directed the car into the median of the expressway. As I crashed into the median backwards the car stopped, but the wheels continued to spin, and smoke was coming from the tires. I then turned off the ignition.
