I have experienced sudden unexpected acceleration on my 2005 Lincoln Town Car. This has happened many times. The car's computer was examined by 2 Lincoln dealers and no errors ware found. Just yesterday, I was driving and had my foot off both the accelerator pedal and the brake as I was coasting in traffic when the car suddenly accelerated and I had to press on the brake to stop this. I then took the car immediately to my Lincoln dealer who could find nothing wrong again. Do you have any information on problems with the electronic throttle control or any other part such as cruise control, etc. , that could cause this problem and has this problem been reported to you by others? I met another 2005 Lincoln Town Car owner who said he had the same problem and I also found an article on the internet by a 3rd 2005 Lincoln Town Car owner with the same exact problem who also said the his dealer told him that the car's computer showed no errors so there was nothing that they could do about the problem.

Reported on tv show, 60 minutes on 19 June 2005 that there is a defective switch on the cruise control of certain vehicles, including my 1997 Lincoln Town Car that causes spontaneous combustion to ignite a vehicle fire even when the vehicle is not in operation. The next day I reported this to my local dealer, williamsburg Ford-Lincoln-Mercury, and was told that they could replace the switch only with the same kind in spite of the fact that the tv show stated that a subsitute switch is avaialble, because there is no recall. I offered to pay for a different switch.

The person that the consumer spoke with told him that was the way it was suppose to be with the cruise control. The cruise control was set every time that this happened to the consumer.

Failure of cruise control to kick down after reaching desired speed and to kick back in when going below desired speed. Also if cruise control is not turned off before turning engine off it will continue to draw current and run battery down. This has not caused any accidents yet but has caused two close calls. I stopped using the cruise control until it is fixed.
The consumer's vehicle has required multiple repairs to include ball joint replacement, turned rotors and idler arm replacement. The vehicle only has 70000 miles. The cruise would not shut off without a near skid amount of braking, this would also occur because the shifter would not come out of the park position.
