While backing up, unknown to me, my parking aid system failed, I ran over a garbage recycle bin, damaging my rear bumper cover. If the system worked as advertized, this would not have happened. Thank god it wasnt a child!.

2007 Lincoln Town Car. Consumer states unintended acceleration the consumer stated the dealer kept the vehicle for a couple of days and stated there was nothing wrong with vehicle and it was probably due to driver error. The consumer stated the sudden acceleration happened for a second time on may 11, 2011. The consumer was able to turn the key off after slamming on the brakes had no effect of trying to stop the vehicle.

We had a sudden unintended acceleration of our car. We were traveling west on the new york state thruway (I-90) towards niagara falls. As we exited into a rest area, suddenly the engine raced as if the gas pedal were floored. The driver pressed on the brake very very hard, and the car almost stopped, moving forward slowly. The driver then shifted into neutral, and the engine slowedand we stopped--about 50 feet beyond where the sudden unintended acceleration started. We turned the engine off, and examined the floormat--it was not in a position to press the gas pedal. We checked under the hood, and did not find anything that seemed related to causing the sudden unintended acceleration. We later checked if the driver could press the gas and brake pedals at the same time, but on our car they are so far apart that this is not possible. We think it is possible that this occurrence was due to inadequate shielding, and inadequate programming, of the gas pedal computer which sends signals to the acceleration system. At the time of the incident, we had a gps, cell phones, and game machines in operation, and the rest area we were pulling into had wifi. Thus, the acceleration system computer was receiving many signals from "noise. " if they came in a certain sequence, it would cause an sua, unless the car had adequate coding to prevent that occurrence. The fix for this would be to either hard wire the gas pedal, or to put adequate programming to prevent stray signals from being accepted. We would like to see one of these fixes implemented.

When brake pedal is applied for a long traffic light stop, I could smell burning plastic. After several weeks of this my car would not come out of park. Found the harness plug to the brake light switch melted. I am curious as to why the fuse didn't blow ?. I replaced the plug with new connectors and a few weeks later the same thing is happening - wires are melted and the fuse is not tripped.

When key is inserted in ignition, the seat slams forward into the steering wheel and then reverses slamming to extreme back position and then reverses repeating action. At same time the brake and gas pedal extends upward and down. The forward seat motion could crush a chest against the steering wheel, and the backward motion could break legs of a person sitting in the back seat. If this occurs while car is in motion, there would be no way to control the car, I. E. No way to turn the steering wheel, or apply brakes. The car was in the dealer repeatedly for the 1st several years, and now the problem is recurring. The faulty seat movement is extremely fast--not at push button seat adjustment speed.

Fire started in the front of the car without any known reasons. Vehicle was serviced regularly and no problems were noted during the service two weeks before the fire. A thorough full service was done in may 200y as well.

The contact owns a 1997 Lincoln Town Car. Whenever the contact drives with the high beams activated, the lights flicker on and off continuously until they are turned off. : the contact stated while driving 70 mph on the interstate at night, all exterior and interior lights failed without warning. The contact maneuvered the vehicle to the side of the road. Air bag light stays on at all time and beeps. Dash board and head light come on and go off at times on their own. Oil change light remains on at all times even when there is not a need for oil to be changed.

2004 Town Car parked in garage. Turned key and vehicle caught on fire. All I did was turn the key. Extensive damage to car, fire and smoke damage to home.

When vehicle engine is running and turn signals are actuated, the digital dash, turn signals, and air conditioner cuts off. Additionally, steering effort increases substantially, abs cycles off and back on when the power is restored. The duration may be momentary (less than 5 seconds) or last for a minute or longer. Frequency is 80+ percent of the time when the turn signals are engaged (left or right). I have had another Ford vehicle which gave problems with this multi-function switch also. Ford has a poorly designed turn signal-windshield wiper-washer switch compounded by the fact power is shunted through this switch all the time, causing overheating and premature failures. This Lincoln is not an incomplete vehicle. The last line of the vehicle detaill form needs a 2nd alternative or webmaster needs to provide for the default choice (--).

While driving the dash board completely illuminated. The vehicle then shut down. Contacted the dealer. Was told it is an electrical problem. Please provide any further information.

While driving at any speed vehicle stalled, and electrical system malfunctioned.

Heater wasn't blowing heat. The dealer replaced the eatc module and the blower motor speed controller.

While driving, the vehicle became engulfed in flames under the hood. The fire department stated it was a possibility that fire was caused by a short in electrical system. There was a fire report filed at the scene of the incident.

The fuel gauge read the amount of fuel improperly. The dealer stated there was no solution for the problem. The engine light stayed on, the seat belt light flashed, (even when the seat belts were in use) towncar/cartier also the display did not work on the dash board.

Windows will not go up at times or go down at times. Also, radio will intermittently work, and other electrical parts will not work. Also. Has contacted dealer, and dealer statesd that it could be because of computer module.

The 1995 is very comfortable but air bags, suspension, windows, and electrical system (unlocatable shortage) do not work. Good mileage and seats, etc very good. The key switch is defective and you can remove keys without turning off. No air bags operable.

While driving vehicle will lose all electrical functions due to a short. Dealer had vehicle 3-4 months, but could not determine cause . Vehicle has had multiple problems. Out side door panel came off. Brakes are spongy. Windshield failed. Seat malfunctions. Dash lithts and stereo failed at diffeerent times.

1997 Lincoln Town Car with multiple safety issues. Speed control switch was deactivated and brake lights failed due to bad brake switch. Incidentally, when the brake switch went bad, the consumer was unable to put the vehicle in gear. All interior lights failed to work properly. The consumer stated she has not been able to use the cruise control since it was disconnected by the dealership in September 2007. The dealer informed the consumer, they may never get the parts for the cruise control. The consumer stated she has not been able to use the high beams for over 4 years. If she used them for a couple minutes, all of the lights on the dash and in the vehicle would go out.
