2 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 1999 Lincoln Town Car

Failure Date: 05/30/2017

Lincoln Town Car, 1999, leaking intake manifold due to defective part originally used in manufacture of car that Ford was reportedly aware of but has never recalled the cars for replacement of a better part now with metal parts to prevent cracking that occurred in the original all plastic manifold intakes. At one time there was a very under-published lawsuit enabling owners who had already fixed this deficiency a $700+ rebate but the offer was only for a short period of time. Apparently the former owner of my Lincoln Town Car knew nothing about this opportunity and problem was diagnosed 2 years ago. Previous owner thought it was no big deal. Today many Ford owners have been left holding the bag for this expensive and sometimes engine damaging repair when they reportedly knew about the defect and continued selling the cars. Coolant constantly leaks out causing possible engine damage as well as risk of overheating if coolant isn't constantly added. Repair is approximately $800-$1000. Many fords have been affected.

3 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 1999 Lincoln Town Car

Failure Date: 07/02/2015

The intake manifold on my 1999 Lincoln Town Car developed a crack and began leaking all over the engine . We bought the car in 2008 and the manifold had not been changed and we knew nothing of the "settlement" with Ford to replace them. . I contacted Ford and they told me that agreement ended March 16, 2006. . Now the Ford dealer wants $1000 to replace it. . Why should the car owner have to pay an excessive amount when Ford is responsible for installing plastic in an engine compartment that gets hot and is bound to crack at some point. . Just a warning . . Don't buy a Town Car without checking on recalls, bulletins, and settlements. . .

9 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 1998 Lincoln Town Car

Failure Date: 04/17/2013

Vehicle began to over heat. Once it got hot, the power of car is,was lost. After happening a few times,I found a very small [pin size] hole in the thermastate recieving unit. This is a part of the manifold it self. All attemps to repair this problem has failed. ! trying to fix this proved impossible. This part is in fact made of some type of plastic. As it heats up the plastic exspands, and re-opens the hole, which has now become a crack. All effords to find a sealent to stop the leak, has failed. To have this crack repaired means that the entire top of the motor [manifold] must be re-placed. Ford re-placed the termastate housing unit in 2000-2001, with an aluminum piece, problem solved. There are no re-calls,nor even a notification, sent out, to address this problem. I feel stornly that this is in fact a known problem, which Ford was aware of,but decided that it did not happen enough to fix it. Please note::when the car ovrt heats it shuts off the power to the engine!!! this could potientially be avery dangerous situation, especially in high traffic, high speed situations!!!!.

13 Manifold/header/muffler/tail Pipe problem of the 2003 Lincoln Town Car

Failure Date: 07/31/2012

My vehicle broke down and thus had it towed to a Ford dealership to be fixed. The diagnosis was a cracked engine manifold that leaked coolant all over the top of the engine ruining the cylinders, spark plugs, ignition coils, oil, oil filter and fuse box. The dealership explained to me that because these manifolds are now plastic and no longer metal, they are prone to breaking. The total of the repairs came to over $2000. Upon some research, I discovered that I was not alone in this fiasco. There was a class action suit filed back in 2004-05 against Ford motor company. However, I was told that I did "not qualify because my Lincoln was not a fleet vehicle" seems to be Ford's go to excuse when mass amounts of their cars (town car, crown victoria, grand marquis) are recalled. Received no compensation help from Ford or the lawsuit.

The dealer advised this was a recall item but expired in 2005. Customer service for Ford would not grant any concessions and being on a fixed income, I'm looking for some financial relief. I had been to the dealers in the past for service and never once did they mention a recall, even prior the expiration date. Even though Ford told my husband that they mailed notice to me in July 2005, I never received any such notice. I keep very good records, and my car has been in an authorized dealers repair shop but no one told me about the cracking intake manifold problem or any lawsuit "settlement". I found fords number from a letter they sent me dated August 2000, which concerned a problem with tire jacks --at that time I lived in oklahoma city. There may be hundreds of others who are similar situated. Again, Ford did not give me any notice of this problem. I paid $1,179. 56 to c&f automotive (2439 n. Decatur blvd, las vegas, nv 89108-0000 - 702-647-7787) to replace the cracked manifold.
