I had the transmission replaced once already. The transmission I have now when driving on a hwy at 50mph and above with start to jerk in and out from 2000 to 3000rpm and the o/d switch light will blink. After this happens, it doesn't matter what speed the vehicle is in, it responds the same.
I have a 2000 Mazda 626 and the transmission is horrible. Well, was because I had to replace it. Instead of my car going in reverse when I put it in reverse it went forward. My overdrive light kept coming on and blinking and the code was always the temperature high due to highway driving. If this transmission wasn't meant for highway driving it should have never been utilized. Luckily I didn't get into an accident with the care.
I was on my way to las vegas from California and my o/d light started to blink on and off. My speedometer went to 0 and I started to lose power. My engine was smoking so I pulled over and was stranded in the desert for around 45 min. Come to find out my transmission over heated and went out on me.
I was driving from California to las vegas and my o/d light started to blink on and off but there were no other signs. All of a sudden my speedometer went to 0 and I was losing power and the engine was smoking. I had to pull over and stop in the middle of nowhere. Come to find out the transmission overheated and went out on me.
On 11/22/07 my wife noticed that the o/d off light was flashing on her 2000 Mazda 626 and the transmission was not engaging in first gear completely. On 12/7/07 while traveling on interstate highway 894 the car completely lost all forward movement from the transmission. She was lucky enough that traffic was light and she was able to coast to the side of the highway.
O/d light blinking after long drive. Harsh shifting. Over reving during attempted shifting.
Mazda 626 ES 2000. Transmission failure. Replaced transmission from eagle transmission, o/d light flashing after trip to dallas, failed transmission again. 2 months after rebuilding transmission. Now I see TSB on this problem. Mazda knows that this transmission is too small and overheats. What will they do? updated 04/21/08.
O/d light blinking after long drive. Harsh shifting. Over revving during attempted shifting.
The transmission gave out. 112,000 miles. I got the transmission replaced, and right after the warranty was over, the transmission gave out. The o/d light comes on, the car overheats, and it does not shift into 4th gear.
My 2000 Mazda 626 has 112,800 miles. Six months ago the vehicle has 100,000 mile service and the dealer recommended I install a transmission cooler. I asked why and he didn't offer anything other than it was a good idea. Now my o/d light is flashing and the transmission is clunking. The repair shop says that the transmission is burned out. Mazda knows about this, the dealers know about this but the consumers do not know about it. This vehicle needs a recall or at least a broadcast warning to consumers.
I purchased my car in April of 2004 with 45,000 miles on it; around 102,000 miles, my car stated jerking when it changed from 1st to 2nd gear; now, at 106,000, the o/d light, and the engine light both flashes, and I can barely make it up a hill, because of all the jerking and hesitating that it does.
Transmission over heats(overdrive light blinks), causing the car to shift gears improperly and if untreated by adding an extra radiator for the transmission it will go bad!!!!!.
O/d off light started flashing. Took vehicle to a local dealer and they ran a diagnosis. They found a dst p01718 failure - automatic transmission slippage causing overheat condition. The transmission needs to be replaced as it will fail. It is a 2000 Mazda 626 with only 58000 miles on it.
2000 Mazda 626 lx 4 cyl. On March 1st 2006, my speedometer dropped to zero while driving at a continuous speed (45 mph) this happened several times within a half hour period before the engine light came on. On March 2nd, I drove the car to the local Mazda dealership for a diagnostic. According to the dealership, the diagnostic revealed that the speed sensor was bad. However, they also related that the sensor was replaced and that the problem was still there. The dealership proceeded with a search of the wiring in order to determine what the problem was. This was done at an hourly rate of $85. 00 an hour. On March 6th, a broken wire was found at the firewall. It took them 7. 5 hours to make this determination. On March 11th, while on the expressway, my o/d light began flashing off and on continuously. It also began bucking and jerking and would slip in and out of gears. This is the first time this has ever happened with this car. I just hit 95,000 miles and I purchased it new in may 2000.
While driving to work on 01/25/2005 had overdrive switch off, and as the transmission got hot, the overdrive off switch light started flashing. The car started making jurking movements like it was going to stall and proceeded on to work.
The contact owns a 2000 Mazda 626. Transmission does not work properly. The overdrive light continues to flash , and the vehicle will not go into reverse and will not shift . The vehicle was taking to a repair shop and the transmission was repaired. However, the problem recurred. The current mileage is 102000 miles. He is no longer driving the vehicle.
Transmission shifts very hard from 1st to 2nd gear when cold or at slow speeds. Have taken vehicle to dealer numerous times for this problem but have been told that it is normal or no problem found. Continued to drive the vehicle thinking that there was nothing wrong and I noticed that it would shift hard into 1st and then from 1st to 2nd. After continuous driving (1 hr) at 65 mph the o/d light started flashing and the engine was smoking. Took it in for repairs again was told they could find nothing. I then searched on the net and came noticed that several people have been complaining about the 626's transmission problems. Someone please help us!!!!.
The hold/o/d light was blinking and the car was revving up to 4-5 rpms as I drove on the interstate at about 65 mph. The car then began smoking, so I pulled off the road and parked the car.
O/d free light on dash board keeps flashing. Rpms at idle jump sporadically. While driving, the transmission can not make up it's mind what gear it should be in. This makes the Mazda 626 lx unpredicable, therefore, unsafe.
Overdrive light came on and vehicle jerked. Vehicle will make a bad noise like a booming noise.
