1 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 05/25/2017

Transmission failure. Car is parked, and won't go into gear. Seems to be a common issue for this make and model car.

2 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2013

Driving in the highway but abruptly it slowed down and can't speed up while I was in the traffic, it was almost bumpped to stop, terrifying trucks were chasing behind me. This is a transmission failure. Terrible, and a big safety issue too.

3 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 10/24/2009

I bought a 2000 Mazda 626 lx from a neighbor, and with only 95k on the odometer, the car began shifting rough. It didn't seem to cause much of a problem and I continued to provide general maintenance for the car. However, I almost never traveled outside of a 20 mile radius with the vehicle. Once I did travel about 40 miles away, the transmission broke down and refused to enter into drive, but only the lower gears. As I searched the internet for similar problems, it became readily apparent that a transmission failure was common for the Mazda 626 model. I am now faced with replacing the transmission at a cost of $2,000 plus.

4 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2009

The transmission is failing on our Mazda 626 2000. According to the mechanic the rest of the car is in great condition besides the fact that we need a transmission overhall which will run us 4,000 - 5,000. A brief internet search by the mechanic and subsequently by myself indicated this is a common complaint of Mazda. We are extremely lucky this did not cause injury to my husband who was driving at the time of initial occurrence or the mechanic who test-drove it for diagnostics.

5 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2008

This is the second time that I have had to put my 2000 Mazda 626 into the shop due to transmission failure. I was experiencing hard shifting and jerking while placing the car in gearand accelerating. The first repair cost me 800 dollars the second transmission repair was 1200 and the mechanic told me that the transmission wasn't equivalent for the weight and size of my car. I'm experiencing problems once again and it's not even a year later I'm a sophomore in college and I can't afford these costly repairs.

6 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 04/25/2008

I bought my 2000 Mazda 626, 2. 0l engine, automatic, in 2001, brand new. I have put ~100,000 miles on it, mostly highway. Then one day, with no warning, the transmission just failed on the highway.

7 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 11/09/2007

(1) hesitation in shifting. (2) transmission failure (3) rebuild with aamco.

8 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2007

There were no signs that the transmission would fail, after reading the forums, this is clearly an improperly designed transmission. If I would have read the forums before the failure I would have traded in the car while it had some value. Hopefully you are reading this before your 626 tranny fails. The estimates for the repair were $3500 and there was $1800 left on the note. We only got $500 for the trade. The repair didn't make sense after reading about all the tranny problems this car has.

9 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2007

The Mazda 626 lx cd4e transmission will fail, because their poor design, no matter how you do. This transmission is on Mazda 626 on year 1994-2002.

10 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2007

2000 Mazda 626 lx 4-cyl Mazda is experiencing jerking or gear shifting problem. Took car in to two different Mazda shops-on five separate occasions-within a 60 day span- and the problem still was not corrected or diagnosed. Spent more than $1100 in repairs. Later researched on my own and found out that Ford transmission model cd4e used in my model car was possibly defective. After discussing with Mazda, I was told to just drive the car until the transmission completely failed and then have it replaced for $3000. I asked about having a transmission fan installed and was discouraged. Mazda service bulletin 005-02 instructs tech's to install a transmission fan if the customer complaint matches the bulletins description. I still was not given any information about this matter. How can Mazda get away with not taking responsibility for this? obviously there is a problem when thousands of messages on the message board all discuss the same issue. This is totally unethical and should be dealt with.

11 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2007

Driving in city traffic, parked in parking space, started to leave, pulled transmission shifter into reverse and car went forward. Could not get car to go in reverse so it was towed because of transmission failure, appears transmission must be replaced again.

12 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2007

2000 Mazda 626 lx transmission failure after only 81,200 miles.

13 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 01/27/2007

Transmission failed, completely out of nowhere at 110,000 miles which is absolutely ridiculous. The transmission in the 2000 Mazda 626 should last a lot longer than that. It cost me $1600. 00.

14 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2006

My Mazda 626 ES, 2000 4 cylinder, need to have it's transmission replaced again. It broke one year ago in oct 2005 and this year it has broken once more and needs to be replaced. A yearly transmission change is overkill since I don't really drive in high stop and go situations, do due diligent maintenance, and do not drive in a manner which would tax the transmission. I believe, because of the second transmission failure, that is a product defect and causes an undue cost to consumers.

15 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2006

: the contact stated the vehicle was consistently experiencing transmission problems resulting in a complete transmission failure. The vehicle would switched gears by itself. When the vehicle was taken to two independent mechanics, they determined the transmission needed to be replaced immediately. The dealer was contacted to search for recalls by VIN who determined that the VIN did not match any recalls.

16 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 07/21/2006

My 2000 Mazda 626 (56 thousand mile) died on the highway, the transmission failed and I almost got killed! my girlfriend called the Mazda dealer where I bought my car ( east coast Mazda) and pretty much was told, OH well, what do you want us to do about it?? well, I now understand that this transmission problem is very common in Mazda 626 from years 1994-2002. I put out over three thousand dollars for a transmission and I think they should pay on cars like mine that only have 56 thousand miles & the trans dies, plus people could get killed, I can't believe there has been "no recall" for this problem to date, are they waiting to get sued?? that money was my vacation money so now I am out of my trip because of a bad transmission which they are well aware of, just look up Mazda 626 trans problems on the web and see how many there are!.

17 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2006

Mazda 626 transmission failed. . . At 72,000 miles. Simply quit. Dealer basically said that Mazda doesn't stand behind their transmission failure once car is out of warranty.

18 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2006

1) driving on local and interstate highways for approximately 2 hrs, transmission began shifting irregularly and erratically. Sometimes it would skip a shift, or downshift suddenly causing vehicle to lurch to a stop, or slower speed. 2) took car to Mazda dealer. His diagnosis was complete and total transmission failure. This was confirmed by another independent. There was no fix available other than a complete rebuild. There was no advance warning or earlier signs of trouble. 3) had transmission completely rebuilt. Cost was $2,000 plus cost of a rental car.

19 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2006

Transmission and engine/ transmission mount failure on my 2000 Mazda 625 4 cylinder auto. Mileage 117,000. Overhaul costs $2300 two months ago replaced cv joints. This is premature failure in my opinion. Most vehicles exceed 160,000 before they start having this type of failure.

Failure Date: 04/15/2006

My madza 626 with 10500 miles on it had transmission failure which cost 2000 dollars to repair. I have had service done on the vehicle on a regular basis and feel this transmission should not have failed.

22 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2006

2000 Mazda 626 automatic transmission failure transmission has been replaced after 82,000 miles but has failed twice since the repair. In all three cases the automobile transmission has not been able to switch into reverse from being parked. When the problem occurs, switching into reverse is comparable to switching into neutral.

23 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 02/06/2006

: the contact stated while driving 35 mph the engine suddenly lost power and the vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop where it was determined the transmission failed. It was later towed to a local dealer who confirmed the transmission was the cause of the problem. After some research online the contact discovered other complaints concerning transmission failure with similar vehicles that were used primarily for highway driving. This vehicle was purchased 10 months ago and has been used for highway driving only. After doing some reseach, the consumer discovered the transsmission was too small for the vehicle. Updated 03/03/06.

2000 Mazda 626 with 65,000 miles---transmission failed on interstate and needs to be replaced. Looks like there have been numerous issues with this vehicle judging from postings on the web. $3,000 to replace--shouldn't a transmission last longer?.

32 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2005

Approximately 1 year ago I f have purchased a used Mazda 626 with a total mileage of under 68000 miles. Before I made the purchased of the vehicle I made a background check of the vehicle and its history was fine. 6 months after the purchase I ran over curve and it gave the car a small jolt, moments after the incident my transmission was acting funny. Just before I could make it to my mechanic my transmission failed. Later I find out that the jolt caused a spragg to pop off in the transmission virtually destroying every thing inside which caused me to have the transmission rebuilt. 4 months later my transmission fails again for some odd reason now I have to get my transmission rebuilt again.

33 Transmission Failure problem

34 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 02/16/2004

Car all of a sudden quit accelerating in the drive gear. I previously posted a complaint regarding a symtom of transmission failure but, it now failed. Car was taken to local shop where it was diagnosed with transmission failure a $2500 cost. I have done extensive reasearch on the transmission model and come to find out that it is a Ford transmission model# cd4e which is notourious for failing. This transmision is not only in Mazda models but Ford cars as well. The years vary from approx 1994 to 2002, please don't only consider the amount of complaints for this year and model of car, but do put into consideration the various cars this transmission was installed into. This type of transmission has been a failure since it was manufactured, if you were to invistigate all cars with this type of transmission you would come to conclude that a massive recall should be done for the safety of us drivers. I'm fortunate that I made it to work and that the transmission didn't fail while driving on the freeway on my way to work.
